Hello all,
Have been using non EMUI ROM's for a while now as I'm sure many of you have as EMUI isn't everyone's favourite cup of tea.
One thing missing is the stereo speakers which although doesn't break functionality it certainly wouldn't be a terrible idea to have it working.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
@kessaras @moto999999
If you guys have any thoughts i and many many others would greatly appreciate your input and help with getting it working.
Any testing you need, im here as I'm sure others will be.
Many thanks in advance.
:good:
What's the problem? I haven't noticed anything, maybe I haven't observed it as mainly use my Bluetooth headphones.
Is it on Bluetooth output? Or UBC C to jack? Or the phones direct speaker?
please explain. what exactly do i connect to reproduce the issue ?
just stereo speakers or a headphone will do ?
wireless ? or
directly type C or i need a type C to audio jack adapter ?
or a type c to usb adapter ?
I think it stands for the internal speakers. On EMUI they were playing together in stereo, on aosp roms only the bottom speaker plays while listening to the music or playing a movie.

Headphones for me are fine.
Bluetooth is fine.
It's just the normal stereo speakers on the phone.
Only one works..

Ok . I think you don't understand.
Audio takes routes.
From kernel to Hal to framework to app to user it goes through many many routes.
I need the whole route.
Can you be specific clear or not ?
I can't just buy any available combination in the market and test them all, I don't have the money for that or the time.
So.
You connect with type C ?
Type C to jack ?
Type C to usb ?
Then you connect what ?
Just speakers ?
Audio jack to two speakers ?
Type C to speakers ?
Do the speakers have an amplifier , so you connect from :
jack to amplifier and then the amplifier to speakers ?
Type C to amplifier and then speakers ?
Help me understand the whole route or debug it yourself.
There are more than 50 audio routes.
Be specific clear !!!
this phone have two speakers, one at the bottom, one at the top...
if you listen to anything, only the bottom one works, not the top one...
speakers, headset and whatever, connected via bluetooth or usb, works just fine
it's just the speakers on the phone
don't know how to be more clear, apologies

I have no idea what you're asking dude..
In fact I have already been as clear I can be.
To reiterate..
With the p20 pro with pie installed..
If you play music with just the phone! As I said just the stereo speakers that are built in..
You will have audio coming out of the earpiece and the speaker at the bottom, the bottom being right and the top being left..
There are no usb C or otherwise connected, as I said headphones, usb, Bluetooth all work fine, in which case anything else you connect would also work fine..
This is solely for the phones actual output, not sure where the confusion is mate??
Do you have the pro? If you have it and have your ROM or any other non emui ROM installed you'd know exactly what I'm saying.
Hasn't anyone mentioned this in your ROMs thread??
Any audio from the device usually (with emui) comes from both speakers, top and bottom (on the phone, nothing external)
With non emui ROMs this does not happen.
I've no idea how to debug where the break down is.. specifically within the devices software... which is why I'm asking for help.

There is no way to be more clear, it's blatantly obvious what the problem is mate.
As in the internal speakers, not some external, amplified or otherwise externally connected speakers.

Ok now I finally understand. I never noticed anything like that because when I disassembled two p20 pro to change lcd (at work, because I'm a mechanic normally) I never saw a speaker up there. We only have one below.
In some reviews I read that p20 pro can create a Dolby surround effect.
Maybe the Dolby effect confused you ?
And no actually nobody else ever said anything. It's just you since I did my first build until now ?
Edit:
To add more,
If Huawei in closed source audio Hal has some way to create a Dolby surround effect , then that's something we can't do unless Huawei shared the Hal.
Absolutely no idea about Dolby.
Doesn't confuse me at all, just the left (earpiece speaker) doesn't work..
I think Luk got it to work. Could be wrong.

That's true! On Emui the left sound is coming from the earpiece speaker and the right sound is coming from the bottom speaker. The option is called Stereo +
When the phone is on landscape orientation the audio is switching from mono to stereo

i see. no i can not do that. i can not create a stereo + effect by routing the left sound to earpiece and right sound from speaker.
what i can do is make the earpiece play sound too just like the speaker , but i don't know how bad the quality will be because the earpiece is not strong like the speaker.
I will keep that in mind , when i have time i will change the routing and test it at mine.

One good thing we know is, is that the earpiece is capable of being used as a speaker.
A lot of devices with only one speaker have had mods in the past which have enabled the earpiece as a second speaker but some have caused damage over time, this shouldn't be the case for us.
Nice one. I think the quality will be great.
If we can match up the Vol level and emulate the output specifically Vs the emui one then we'll be sorted.
@kessaras whatever you can do would be amazing mate

in your picture i see the earpiece, not the speaker.
If it was a speaker then how do you hear the opposite side when you make a phone call ?
"Earpiece" it's called, not speaker.
In EMUI they create a stereo effect by using the earpiece to play music.
If you so much want this , then ask Huawei to send me link to their sources, hals and framework, end of story.
Me i said already , the only thing i can (Maybe i can) , is to add a route for the earpiece to also play music just like the speaker. I can not produce the stereo effect of EMUI.
I do not have the code for that and i don't know how to write the code for that.

Can't do exactly that without files from Huawei mate, which they won't release.
But he can maybe do it another way.. The result will probably be the same so let's just see what can be done..

Hello guys!
I m a very happy user of my diamond and this forum...
I was wondering if there is any application that would allow to record using and external mic , plugged in via a usb - 3,5mm jack for example.
Then i can stop carryin my Iriver h340 thats getting pretty heavy!
Isn t there a tool that can also update date and time automatically ?
Thanks in advance and big up for all the cookers!
As far as I know, the Notes application is able to record from an external mic just like the fixed mic. Just go to Menu > View Recording Toolbar.
There are several applications to sync the time, can't think of any off the top of my head.
The supplied headset has an external mic in it, you should be able to hack into it and solder on a jack socket, then plug in any mic. In theory you should also be able to do the same with a BT headset.
You need "synchrotime" to correct time and date via the internet.
these were quick answers!!
I was more thinking about recording rehearsals and concerts , so more like a dedicated application were u can choose the sample rate m and also the format for ex wave or mp3 plus a gain control...
ttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnxxxxxxxxxxx
Pardon me for digging up old bones, but I've been searching for an answer to this for a bit now...
Like the OP asked, is there an app out there for recording audio from an external mic plugged into the 3.5mm jack? I own a Samsung Galaxy S (Fascinate) and know that the hardware side of this topic is covered.
The only "Notes" application I have is notebook. I have audio recorder, but that doesn't have any such settings to choose from an external audio source (and I've tried to see if it just switches to that source if it is plugged in, no luck).
This would make life so much easier for me if I could pull this off. I'd pay for a decent app that covered that.

In a twist to this question/ request.
I am and have been looking for an app also that will be able to utilize the external mic 3.5 mm jack to record audio to the built-in video application.
NATIVE! not hacked or Jerry-rigged. I tried this by plugging in a headset /mic to the external mic port on an EVO and HTC Incredible and it still seemed to use the regular mic on the phone not the 3.5 mm jack.
I'd like to use my incredible/ EVO/ (and rumored HTC Incredible HD) to be able to connect a lapel mic with transmitter and receiver so audio sounds local without echo from a distance.
Plus I could have 2 people miced up and one video camera.
There is no reason why this shouldn't work.
We are not talking power just software access.
If the notes apps uses it to record why can't the video app use the same port.

Way to record audio on Android using external mic
Hi.
You have to buy adapter which will split the signal for microphone in and audio out (you probably know 3.5 jack in your phone is 2 directional as it supports headset with mic)
You can try to look for it on Amazon (headset buddy)
or solder into headset in the pins which are responsible for mic signal.
Then,
I know only 1 app for android which supports recording from external microphone:
Arabela Audio Recorder - choose DEFAULT audio source and it should catch the signal from external mic connected through adapter via 3.5 jack.
I THINK it can catch the audio while recording video because it works in background ... so later you will be able to remove the audio from video recording and join it with the one you recorded using Arabela with some kind of video editor
regards
If you need a adapter for the phone, then check what i did here in this thread:

There are also link to a app which can record video with the external microphone

I think any mic with 4 pole jack should work without any adapters. Like the one's used on iphones etc. Check on ebay for iphone microphone. I ordered a cheap one $1.80 just to test on my SGSII but im 99% it's going to be working. There are some high quality for about $30 as well. Like this one HERE
I have a friend who has a iPhone and he was explaining to me how he wants to switch to android but the only reason he wont is because lack of music recording ability on android. He says he can justhook his guitar up to iPhone and record he says there are apps like amplitude and others that can make iPhone like a 12 track mixer. can a phone like n 1 evo etc.. handle this.? Is it only a matter oflack of app development? Or hardware issue.? http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3434

Shouldn't be hardware by any means... but I do too wish I could have this ability. I would say its lack of development. that's one of the big things I moss ability iPhone was a little app called "fourtrack", you could record anything you wanted, bounce it, and the sound quality was amazing. /:
anybody know of a solution?
?
I think /hope we could just port apps or mybe the increase in popularity of android we will see development like this.
Just about the only thing I miss from my iPhone is a simple streaming internet radio app called Fstream. It could stream any internet radio station and could also RECORD any station.
I found Cherry Rplayer which is great but it doesn't record. I found Radio RIP, but it's complicated & not very user friendly - and most stations I've tried to add are not supported. :-(
So who should we talk to about getting some nice music apps? Sonoma Wireworks makes fourtrack for iPhone. I'm gonna email them.
There's no line-in jack on N1 - just a crappy mic.
Thus no music recording/tracking apps!
We'll have to wait for devices with a line-in jack before we'll see this.
Of course the n1 has a line in. that's how the headset that came with it works

If you can plug a stereo LINE LEVEL signal into it and get reasonable fidelity, fine. But if it will only accept a mono mic, then I wouldn't call it a "line in".
It's either a mono mic jack or a stereo line-in. My money's on the mono mic jack.

whether it be mono or stereo it is still a line-in. most (if not all) guitars output a mono signal anyway, which is what the OP was asking about.
Hi,
I would like to know if is possible (and how) to use the handset as a stereo digital recorder using the built in line in, or an external device (cheap if possible). The recording quality should be good, 44100 hertz at least. Thanks in advance.

You will need more than that. SGS headphone port contains contacts for headset L/R out and mic-in/TVOut. You need to find a special 3.5mm plug that contains extra contact, in addition to the normal L and R contacts, to tap into the mic-in pin. And you will also need to have a circuitary to convert line-out audio level to mic-in audio level (very different).
As far as app goes, there should be a voice recorder app already on the phone.
maybe there's a stereo bluetooth microphone? this should work and might be better then a home-made line in cable. The microphone input for the handsfree (3,5 socket) is mono so there might be no option for stereo line-in.
Bass Guitar Amplifier to Android?
Hi,
I'm looking to record audio via a line between my Bass Amplifier (It has a Line Out port) and my Sony Xperia U (Standard Headphone Jack).
From what I read elsewhere, I need a TRRS adapter; these aren't easily available in my country (India). Could anyone point me towards alternate methods to acheive the same result?
Thanks.
EDIT: Alternatively, I'd also love it anyone could point me towards an application that works as an amplifier, that is, accepts direct input from a guitar.

No you can not, so for now, My alexa dots are here to stay.
If my mini wasn't free, it would have gone back for sure. Having an AUX and/or Bluetooth to speaker capability seems like a must on the mini! Especially considering the terrible sound output on its built in speaker... I mean, that thing is bad lol. The voice is fine I suppose, but the sound is otherwise worse than I've heard in a LONG time on even a super cheap speaker. I really hope they add the Bluetooth function, and soon.
I am considering taking one apart and soldering on a aux cable to the speaker output and plug it into my home theater sound system, not sure whats inside or how it comes apart yet but they only cost $30, wort a shot...
There are several tear down posts now.

I'm planning to use the shotgun mic for videos so I wouldn't have to get a label but if I can't make this work, I doubt a label would.
I've only tested it with my mic so I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or not since I tested the mic on my PC and it works just fine. I hope this is not a hardware limitation.

Not sure what you mean by "a label" (maybe a lapel mic?)
Also I'm not sure if my post was clear that the mic function of my wired headset works fine.
Suggest you have a look at the poles on your microphone jack. Fwiw my headset has 4 poles, though I couldn't tell you which is which.
It tends to be that poles 1 and 2 are left and right audio, 3 is ground and 4 mic - it's possible that Xiaomi use a nonstandard set up on their devices but unlikely.
Depending on the poles on your mic you could probably pick up an adapter plug to switch the poles about or else use insulation tape to blank off some of them

Yep. Lapel mic. Auto correct kept changing it. I bought an adapter so I would have 4 poles but still not working. I tested the mic if it actually works and it worked fine in my PC.
Boya Lapel mic Works with POCO F1
i tried Boya mic with default camera app and it does not work.
I tried with other third party camera app from Play store which allow us to customise the mic settings
I set external mic in the setting and shot a video. Boya works fine with poco f1
Whixh third party camera app?
I've tried open camera but it doesn't work with my BOYA BY-MM1. Can you please share which camera app you got your pocophone to work with an external mic.

you have the "pro" version of this app, is really pro. You can record in .WAV lossless if you change it in settings, also in stereo and with 48Khz...
Download it, go to setting and change everything to the maximum quality.
Also have a noise reduction and echo reduction
And the mic can be:

I hope you like it! :good:

I used open camera. go to setting and change audio source to external mic. The default app doesnt let you use the external mic is a shame. I am creating a video checking the quality of the mic right now, will post it in a day on my youtube channel trouvaille -by Aamir
This is the best Android app for recording audio (interview etc), also good for video shoots to edit & sync later:

I have the same problem on my poco f1
I tried using my lapel mic, boya mic, shotgun mic all mics faiked to tecord soubd through external mic. The video gets its sound from intetnal mic by default. I ttied all settings but no use.
Its a shame we are not able to use external mic on such a device with good video capapbility.
Not tried any third party apps yet. Plz suggest the besy one that really works.
I use a USB mic blue snowball. With a USB c converter and software from play store. That works.
Some info on 3.5mm connectors on this page: http://www.epanorama.net/newepa/2014/09/15/android-device-external-mic-wiring/
Most (if not all) android phones use the AHJ pinout.
Any solution for this?
Which type is Pocophone?
