I can't scroll to the bottom portion of the page in order to click on the interaction button.
I'm in the process of complying with a program that requests access my GPS, photos etc and can't get to the button in order to accept the requests.
Tried settings and factory settings, no luck.
?? I've never seen a permissions request appear on an Android Auto head unit - they appear on the phone.

It's the App I'm using on the head unit making the requests. Anyway I was able to confirm the requests by going into "Apps" in settings.

You can't run any apps on an Android Auto head unit. I think you're posting in the wrong place - it seems you have a HU which runs Android, not AA. There's an "Android Head Units" category for those.

Is there any resource for finding a list of "android auto" compatible apps? I should (hopefully) be getting a 8100NEX tomorrow (to use with my nexus6.) However, I can't seem to find a current list of compatible apps. For example, I'd like to find a music player (not Google's play music - the 1000 track playlist limit is too... limiting) that'd work with it.

I hope so, but for example: WhatsApp, Facebook and so on I can´t use with Android Auto and I would think these apps are the apps with the fastest update rate.

Hi Gary. Try going to appradioworld.com and click on the app tab. You'll find a list for android and apple that is stated to be continually updated.

Only messaging and audio playback apps. Mainly because (according to the developer docs) these are the only API's currently available to developers. This will undoubtedly be expanded on; there is another category of apps (car related) that no API's exist for at this point.
But how long will it take? If you compare it to Wear, probably the better part of a year. And it seems Wear was much more finished in the first place. This is a little disturbing. No one buys the initial run of Auto compatible units because Auto is so unfinished, and manufacturers loose interest. Hopefully, that will not be the case, but I for one am on the fence for now.

The lastest release of the Android Auto app has a link to the available apps.
Where can I get the latest version? In Germany the app isn´t available in the Playstore.

Install manually and it should work, but keep it up to date.
I had a problem where AA refused to start because there was a newer version on Play. But it wouldn't download due to my country not being whitelisted. Some day it might refuse to work at all without the right parameters.
This could happen in the middle of a trip, or at least after a car restart.
Of course almost everyone had fun recently with an accidental development release that showed numbers and emails all over the screen.

Android Auto is designed to Auto safety guidelines that are very strict. Facebook is not something someone should be using in a car.

Android Auto supports "Messaging" (and "Media").
So if Facebook could do an app or extension limited to text messaging with text to speech and speech to text, then AA could support that I guess.
No looking at pictures/videos or posting them or doing text on screen for sure.
But the app would have to be approved by Google, for distraction, and whatever else suits their business goals.
I wish Waze was supported. I would rather use it than Google Maps.
While I am waiting for my Pioneer to arrive, one thing occurred to me. What happens to notifications from other apps? For instance, SmartThings notifies me if I left my garage door open after I leave the house; will those simply be silenced if my phone is connected to Android Auto beforehand?

Good question. I don't think it silences them, but it doesn't show them on the head unit. You could have ST send you an SMS instead (and that would show up.)
I suspect (hope) that google will eventually allow other app notifications to pop up on the head unit's screen - even if you can't interact with them (other than to just clear them.)
Thanks. It kinda sucks that AA cripples your notifications. I don't need to interact with them, but not getting them at all seems overkill.

I doubt Google will backtrack on these decisions.
There is a new AA API for Audio and a new AA API for notifications.
Apps must implement these for Google to allow them to work with AA. Furthermore, the apps must be submitted to Google for approval to try and ensure they are not driver distracting.
These are very intentional business decisions Google has made.
Google does NOT want to be sued for driver distraction, nor get bad press from cases where people try and blame AA ("The tree jumped out in front of me") and does NOT want regulators banning Android Auto.
Furthermore, this reduces the competition Google faces from other audio and messaging apps. Only "select" apps will be allowed.

Possibly, but Google's nature is to throw it against the wall and see what sticks.
If even non-interactive aspects of your device are crippled, folks may feel the need to disconnect while driving (which defeats the whole point of it).
Or, avoid the platform entirely. I know that after seeing a demo of AA I thought "my Moto X does all of this and more, without having to look at or touch it".
I'm betting that this will evolve in the same way as other projects.

First I don't understand how it works. I have seen that you need android auto on your phone in order to communicate with your car device but what is running on the car device? Is a different type of operating system?

AA consists of 2 parts -
AA application running on the phone
AA client on say a car headunit (could also be another android phone or an android tablet) that mirrors the AA phone display
AA can be run self hosted on a phone, then you don't need the second part.
If you want to have a fixed display (client/server setup) in the car & you don't already have a car headunit supporting AA, you can install an app such as HUR- https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348 on the headunit/tablet. There's a trial version that you can download to try.

As the purpose of AA is to enable phone use during driving, it provides limited access with a simplified display :
Google assistant - so you can have voice interaction
Phone
Navigation - waze/google maps
Music apps - google play music, spotify (depends what you have installed on your phone)

Install AA on your phone., run it, see if the app is shown in the menu. If it isn't you can go into AA developer mode and enable 'unknown sources' and test again. The thread I referenced above covers getting in AA developer mode.
If that test is successful, then go further and install the client on your car console.

It would be helpful to know what hardware you have in your car.
I'm not an expert, I use a Nexus 7 tablet for the car display with headunit reload (HUR).

Thanks, but I don't think I've made myself clear... there is a HUGE difference between installing the Android Auto app on a tablet and a built-in Android Auto device.
Everything I have seen by searching has been a tablet or phone with an app... The Android Auto app is going to be killed off very soon, and certain functionality will be developed only for the built in devices.
My question is whether a tablet can be hacked so GOOGLE sees your tablet as a built-in device, and will issue it with updates etc.

Even the chinese HU don't use android auto they have some other app that does the same and most people don't use it. In the end the concept of mirroring isn't that practical and there's too many hurdles such as apps have to be enabled for it...

I have a 2012 Toyota Highlander, coming from a Galaxy S10+ where the metadata and controls came through to the stereo. I recently upgraded to the Pixel 7 and had a hard enough time just getting bluetooth to connect to the car. Now I can play through the stereo just fine, but can't control the music nor see metadata. This was working perfectly on the S10+. My screen doesn't even populate with the areas where Title/Artist/Album etc should be, it just shows a play and pause button (which actually work). I've tried multiple apps (spotify, Youtube, podcast app), no metadata. I've tried all versions of AVRCP and MAP on the phone, rebooted and reconnected, still no metadata. I have Bluetooth Volume Manager installed, though I don't see how that would affect anything.
I know many people are having this issue, but is there no resolution other than "it works for me"?
Have you tried to use Android Auto for your connection to your car. It certainly works using a USB cable connection between my car and my Pixel 7. I play all of my music from my phone and also from the radio while driving using the app.

I can't even get Android Auto to run. It's updated in the Play Store, but no way to run it!
Have you done the setup process to link your car with the Android Auto app? I don't have a Toyota; so things may be different on you vehicle. However, when I was setting up my Android Auto; I had to go into the car's menu to set the proper access. You might check your car's Manuel regarding WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. connection authorizations. See if that helps.

I don't know what setup process there is, but my Toyota is almost 11 years old, from before AA was released. The manual isn't terribly helpful much like the stereo settings. I had A Galaxy S5, LG V30, and a Galaxy S10+, all worked no issues with the stereo. I feel like the NVRCP isn't working properly.
Any more suggestions? Is there an app that can send the correct NVRCP stream to the car? Or something where I can test to see if it's working?

Can you, Have you opened Android Auto on you cellphone? If yes, you must sync you phone with the car's Bluetooth or by USB cable. If you car is visible, set the sync to you car. If no, I've got nothing else.

Click on you image in the upper right of the screen. That should take you to your Google Apps management screen.

So the problem with trying this is it doesn't open. It is installed, but when I click on AA in step 4 above, it just takes me to the page in the store where I can uninstall/install updates to the app. I can't actually run it. I'm not in the beta either. WTF
Have you tried clearing Android Auto's data? Pixel Settings, Apps, See all apps, Android Auto, Storage & cache, Clear Storage.

I can get into the Android Auto settings, but can't actually launch it. WTF?! Should I uninstall it completely though something like Titanium Backup then install from the store?
