Here's the deal, I had an iPhone 3gs long time ago. That shiny metal frame around the screen was just not for me. I tought : "Why not brush this thing up?" I asked my friend Google (maybe in 2009) and did it. Just amazing.
What do you guys think about doing that on the nexus 4 ?
file it down to black maybe.. mines already dented.. looks really ugly! unless i paint it 0.0
If you want to, go for it. I'm also one of those that took some sandpaper to the chrome bezel because I also thought it was always scuffed pretty bad after normal use, and after doing that it looked awesome. Also helped with the resale value back when I got my first android device (Infuse 4G).
Main thing about the N4 though, to its benefit the shiny trim is a dark chrome, which imo looks right, plus mine is covered up by my case for the time I had it thus far and she hasn't got beat up too bad yet.
I say go for it, if it looks sweet, you'll probably be the founder of this technique and have a bunch of people follow. If not, it'll still be unique.

I did a little bit at the corner just to see how is it under the chrome. I'm sad it's plastic. Anyway here are some pics of how it looks like under the

I thougt it was an aluminium frame. I prefer brushed or anodised aluminium. That's what I did with my old iPhone 3GS long time ago, it was beatiful.

I think it will sorta ruin the look''' maybe file it down to black? Because the chrome on the nexus 4 looks nice and fitting but if its dented or scratched like mine. You could try

you can tell something is metal or not from the temperature difference, the bezel is plastic because its not cold, aluminum would be especially cold
ouch that looks horrible.. worse than any minor scratching/nicks you might have already had.. now it looks like garbage

Dude, wait! it's only a little corner I didn't sand papered all the frame.
eh.. just do the whole thing now and give it a custom paint job.
like red and then get the red leather dbrand skin for the back.. something like that
Dropped my phone, bezel down from about 1 metre. Totally squashed the bezel, my phone has a 'lip' now, thanks to the bezel that got squashed. Great way to protect my front camera

What do you mean about rhino-lining ?
There's this company that makes super tough protectors, it's called Rhino-something. It's so tough that it protects against drops and glass cracking and all.
I think so.

Man, are you kiding ?
That's what people use as an alternative to protect their trucks bed instead of the plastic liner. Its what I got in mine(different brand). I've seen a truck had the whole paint job done with it... looks closer to a slight textured matte finish. The phone in that link was crap. If you do want something like this on your phone, look for the ones than have less texture/clumps. Speedliner is smoother and they also sell spray cans of that stuff at the auto parts store.

Hi guys, just curious about this, I would like to remove the front screen protector of Xperia Z to get rid of the Sony logo (not hate it put prefer the front to be all black). Would this affect the phone's water resistant feature?
Have anyone tried this yet?
Besides, is the oleophobic coating of the glass affected? From the video below I think there's something wrong with his phone, the reflection looks pixelated

I have done it and it doesnt affect water resistant feature (its a film how can it affect the whole phone?)
the screen have little to no oleophobic feature, your best bet is to buy some rain-x spray it on there or buy another screen protector that have oleophobic property.
I'd leave it alone for the simple reason you'll regret it. I don't see how you could remove it, you can cover it over in some way but it's not going to look good and would be noticeable from certain angles.

It's scratches I'd be more concerned about, which is why I always stick one on top of the factory one because if or when I come to sell it, a pristine screen will get more than one that's scuffed to bits.

IT WILL SCRATCH.
IT WILL BREAK AND IT WILL SCRATCH.
My previous xperia z had antishatter removed and the screen scratched from a sand particle hidden in my microfibre cloth, if you decide or have taken of antishatter film, put on a screen protector as soon as you can. Preferably you should put on a good quality screen protector onto antishatter film. That way you will have constant new looking phone.
Which is what I've done with my NEW Xperia z.
after taking off antishatter layer on my first phone, AIthough i was trying to convince myself that it feels better, and looks better debranded,
Everytime the beautiful nostalgic sony ad came on, and the guy took out his xperia z to take a picture of his girlfriend covered in courfull dry paint. And then washed his xperia z afterwards showing off that beautiful sony logo. My heart would sink ,as I knew my phone would never look like that ever again.

I'm not using a case and once you use cases, the chrome tends to get scratched up pretty bad.
How do you guys prevent it?
Can I buy a new body like I usually do with a note 2?
How do you fix the scratches? Visible in light but not dim light
Case prevents scratching
Yes but not to the chrome finish on the corners

This is Exactly what I'm worried about. No matter what you phone is, inside a case, it will get the small scratches due to dust and particles collecting inside the case. Those dust and particles will always be rubbing on your phone, rear and the metal/chrome. I guess this is not something you can avoid unless you go butt naked lol. Ah, what to do.

I have the same issue, i have a spigen ultra capsule case on it, and i have had it on the second the phone came out of the box. Now i have scratches on the top and bottom of the front side of the chrome bezel.
This stinks, makes me wonder why sammy didnt anodize the aluminum... ;(
Same here it made me mad but I guess since it's inside the case it won't bother me but indeed makes me mad ?

That looks tempting, however, I'm curious how it'll do peeling off the gray coating? What lies beneath?
If you look at your USB 2.0 port, you'll see white around the edges....wonder if that's painted ceramic white?
I think our frame is both aluminum and magnesium.
Any takers on giving this a shot on the Note 4 and posting pictures? LOL ....

yeah the metal is only a paper thin strip of metal wrap to a plastic frame.
Put a band-aid over it and perhaps a time for a case? Then you won't have to see the scars.

Doesn't seem like cracks. Looks like fusing of plastic and aluminum was not perfect, but nothing to worry about.

Well.. called my Local Phone shop and will receive a new back cover. But the cracks.. it should not crack and I think it is a HUGE design flaw.. even more so when more note 4's have the same cracks. A 780+ euro should not crack! Dont get me wrong.. I love the note 4.. And maby there is a little samsung fan boy with in me, but this, I just can not accept this.
I wouldn't call that a crack, it's at the point where metal frame is molded onto plastic chassis, I'd say it's expected to split due to the heat and etc.
Everyone has that on the bottom I think it's normal

Again, you do know that, that plastic and the metal frame are one piece? They don't come apart. In the process of fusing plastic to the aluminum, there are some tolerances, especially considering that it is under the cover.
When you say crack, one assumes, it developed after the purchase. I would probably assume you bought it like that.
And no, all back covers are supposed to be like that.
Just return your phone please. Thanks.

Dude. You're just bumping thread to try to stay relevant. It is normal, it is hidden under cover, and has no bearing on the look and function of the phone. Does not get worse. Give it a rest. Replace your freakin phone already. Sell it. Throw it in a garbage.
Btw if you started disassembling body of most of the products, I bet you'll find imperfections that are not detrimental and are generally not visible until disassembled.

Hi All,
I've got an odd mark on the rear camera lens, i'm pretty sure it's not always been there, and from the looks of it is on the surface but it will not rub off. Tried Glass cleaner wipes, micro fibre cloth etc. It almost look like when you get an air bubble trapped under a screen protector. I know it's only tiny, but i know it's there and it's really bugging me.. any suggestions on what it may be, how to get rid of it?
Cheers

Some manufacturers do put a small clear plastic protector over lenses just like the one on the touchscreen when you get the phone.
Check it's not got one as you may simply need to remove it.

Thanks Pat, It was my initial thought, it really looks like an air bubble. But I've tried peeling at the edges of it with my nail but can't sense if its got plastic on it or not.
I'm beginning to think this is something on the inside of the glass.

Ah well, let's see if anyone else has similar, I assume it doesn't affect anything, just asthetic, I haven't a comparison myself as I've yet to get my hands on a handset.
The bigger question is - does it affect picture quality?
The sensor doesn't cover the entire glass face so it might not. However, it may cause glare/reflection side effects if the sun shines on the bubble.
I have to agree with Pat, I compared your picture to mine and unless it's just the picture it sure looks like there is a film of some kind on it. Try a good piece of tape towards the edge of the ring and peel it up, you never know.
