Why Does My Chrome Now Look Like This? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

So last night everything on my Google chrome was fine. Was set up just the way I like it. All functions such as the homepage button and setting were accessible at the top of the screen.
Well something changed over night. Now I've a hideous function bar at the bottom of the page
As you can see in my before photo, everything was located at the top of my screen all nice and neat.
In the after photo is what's going on now with the bar at the bottom of the page with all the feature buttons.
I didn't do any updates the night before. Just woke up this morning and was greeted with some unwelcome changes.
Have any of you noticed this too?
How can I go back to everything being at the top of the screen?
Thanks

So I just did an uninstall of updates, reinstall and everything is back to normal. But before I did that I checked a couple of other phones with current updates and they all didn't have the issue of the home, share tab and menus bar at the bottom.
What would cause this to happen over night?
I didnt update nor mess with any settings the night before.

It's a new feature that's still in testing. I love it, been using it for weeks.
Also search for "dark" and you can force dark more on all website's (currently this feature inverts picture colors until you two to view that picture).
And there are also new tab switching tweaks. Here is how my browser looks on news.google.com. (xda has a dark more feature so that wouldn't be a good comparison)

I actually enabled enabled experimental features the 1st week I got my phone, when the note 9 came out. The only feature I enabled then was the home key/tab function. Maybe the devs did something to cause my issue to activate on its own?
Also, never really was interested in the dark mode until I saw your pics included with your comment. Pretty sweet! I'm kinda tired of my eyes bugging out every so often. Maybe this will help!
Thanks for your response and input!

I still cant help wondering how that setting was enabled. You'd have to physically goto the the experimental page and select the setting correct?
And nobody but me uses this phone.

HELP changed notification how to undo?

Last night I was in done settings menu and saw anything about notifications and turned it on to see what it would do. Now instead of the usual notificationsthat pop up, I get a thin floating pop up notification instead. I want to switch back and went to they're I thought I did it, but can't find they setting. I've tried searching the phones settings for notification, popup, floating..... but can't find it.
Does anyone know where I need to go?
My goodness I've become that guy that changes a setting then can't undo it! ?
Not sure how you did it but can you post a screen shot of the thin floating notifications? I'm intrigued....

Hopefully this works. Having do everything from my phone as hurricane Irma has left me with out internet for the last 7 days.
Here is a screenshot of a text I sent myself from my other phone.
Edit: added screenshot of regular notification for comparison.
I just googled that, the setting is under "edge lighting". Just turned it on, I really like it.

That's what I thought and where I first went, but didn't find it. I'll look again, maybe I missed it.
Thanks.
Edit: apparently a can't have edge lighting without the "thin floating" notifications. I could of sworn I clicked something to enable it, besides edge lighting.
That sucks I want the edge lighting without the thin floating notification. ?
I did the same thing.... Googled this does hours... Smh

First thoughts on X4 Pie

So I was curious what people thought after they got their Pie updates? (I'm still waiting)
-Is it faster/slower?
-Any change in battery life?
-Thoughts on Google gestures?
-Any other thoughts?

Same speed for me.
Battery seems the same.
Gestures are worthless.

Seems about the same speed/battery life for me.
The recent apps view is a big step backwards to me, the side scrolling cards is not as easy nor helpful as the vertical view was. I still think Samsung's multiwindow mode is better than Google's and I do not think 9.0 improved it.
Adding a dark theme is nice, but implementation is inconsistent. I am surprised basic things like the settings pages do not use it. But it is nice for the keyboard, messages, and phone.
I'd agree the new pill gesture setup isn't great. The motorola fingerprint gestures is nicer.
The tiny settings icon in the notification drop-down is annoying enough I've given up on it.
Other than some other gui changes (icons and the like), it isn't that different from 8.1.
That's kind of the impression I have been getting for a while. Our phones already have great battery life and moto actions.
I am losing excitement for this update...
It was faster, the battery runs faster than 8.1, I do not like gestures, even though I feel that applications still need to be polished for Pie.
Return to 8.1 for these last two dimensions.
Just installed the update tonight. Performance-wise, it feels the same. Don't know yet about the battery life, since I just got it about an hour ago.
I also found that the pill gesture setup was not up to par. It doesn't add anything extra to the original setup. It still occupies the same bottom screen space.
Dark mode is nice, but I wish it was implemented system wide instead of just by individual app. But probably this depends more on the app developers. But even system apps such as settings don't always have the dark mode.
Lastly, to access the gear settings icon, now you have to pull the notifications bar twice. Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't it used to be just once?

Yes. I noticed this too. The gear was accessible from the notification bar.
I pretty much agree with what others have said so far. Based either on actual speed improvements, tweaks to the animations, or the update placebo effect, 9.0 does feel a bit snappier switching between apps than 8.1.
The only thing I don't like is that the update seems to have made SwiftKey fonts bigger which is mildly annoying.
Pretty disappointed with this version of Android. The recent apps is now destroyed. It's a worse way to interact with your recent apps. Don't even bother with the gestures. Totally half baked. One button nav is superior in every way. The notification pull down is just hideous. The clock is on the wrong side and no way to change it. Why there's no way to change it is beyond stupid. The dark theme option is extremely inconsistent. Won't even darken the settings window for instance. You now have to pull the notification share down twice to access settings versus only one with Oreo. Seems that we've lost a lot of functionality and are being told it's a feature. Perfect example are the volume controls. What a joke.
The whole thing just looks like an iPhone rip off. And the general graphic style sucks. Material design is dead.
Performance and battery seem to stay the same. Overall a poor effort from Google on this. Going to have to root this thing so I can deal with some of the idiotic things they decided to go with. Worst Android update since I can remember. Can't wait to go back to Oreo.
A couple more observations. The volume bar is now on the right side of the screen, next to the volume buttons. It also allows direct access to sound settings. I don't mind this as it feels more intuitive to me. If you long press the power button, now there's an option to take screenshot. I like this since I don't have to fumble again with two hands to take screenshot.
A big change is split screen. Previously, you can just long press the overview button to use split screen. Now you have to tap the overview button (or swipe up from the pill, if you use that), then long press on the icon on top of the app, then select split screen. If you use split screen a lot, this change is annoying to say the least.

That change throws me off. I keep looking for the clock on the right side. And I agree with you; Google copied some of iOS UI while kept some of their own, making it an inconsistent experience.
Fingerprint Lock
I can no longer lock my phone using the fingerprint sensor. I think this is a bug because it is selected in the "Lock Screen Preferences" settings but it does not lock the phone. This may seem like a small thing but it completely disrupts how I'm used to using the phone. I'm using the Google Fi Android One version.

Yes, that's what I suspected and I suppose that could be the reason the fingerprint lock does not work after the update as well.

It is disabled in A1 version. You can get the option enabled by removing the following prop:
ro.mot.android_one
If you are using Magisk, there is a module that you can use for this:
MagiskHide Props Config
Confirmed that this works on Oreo and Pie.
Edit: updated 12/27

This update is underwhelming for me little changes that are just seemingly random and pointless. I'm especially disappointed that the update broke Google pay , prior to pie I've been taking ota's fine with no impact on gpay.

Yep tried that. It's weird because I can unlock the phone with my fingerprint but I can't lock it again. It's obviously recognizing the fingerprint but not for locking purposes.

Note 9 One UI issues

Okay guys.
Just got the official Pie update and it seems that a couple of features are missing.
First, long press "recent button" to split screen in two. (When using full screen gestures), like, there is no way to get another app while listening to YT with screen gestures.
Also, "swipe fast to right" to switch to the last recent app is not working when "Gesture Hints" are hidden
Also, I cannot make apps go into the "Window mode", like swiping from the top will not minimize apps, it will just throw notification bar.
Am I perhaps missing something here?
All that you've mentioned are missing and very annoying.

No, I found these, I just don't feel like swiping and tapping 5 times to get split screen instead of one single long tap.
I thought that split screen or at least previous app would be long swipe to the top, like with home button when you can activate Google assistant.
I just hope that they will bring that option in the near future.
I really miss fast switching to the previous app.

Sadly, samsung implemented a multiwindow close to how google do it and killed their great android versions multitasking ability. It's really not only annoying, but strange why they removed something that they were praised for in android 7 and 8 and before. At this point I better get an iphone as the multitasking is the same (irony).
To show you how rushed (and this sound even funnier given how much time they had) the android 9 is, I will just tell you that you can swipe home-hold and it will run google assistant (like the older home button hold). It's like common sense that they could had done that to recents too - swipe up and hold for instant split screen, but nope, they didn't. Never mis triggered the assistant when going home, so this is not the reason.
Also they removed the menu between two split screen apps, so if you want to switch their places (for example youtube and viber so you can watch the video that is on the bottom while typing) - touch luck b*tch, now you need to close both and open again in the right order rofl (also there was popout there in the same menu). They removed so many key functionalities on a phone promoted BY THEM for multitasking and staying on oreo is not an option for obvious many reasons.
Edit: also the exynos note 9 drop frames in the UI like it did @ oreo if not worse (after it's settled down)... so you got also that.
Issue that i have is in settings, security if i deactivate the Find my Device option, when i restart my phone the option has been reactivated. Also sometimes the full screen gestures so working.

I took advice from another XDA user*: I installed an app called Edge Gestures https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.edgegestures which is helpful in restoring a fast switch back / split screen method.

Yeah sorry Samsung but your one ui is garbage, looks horrible and I can't stand looking at this navigation bar everywhere, no auto hide option at all now? I switch to the gestures option instead but swipe up for recents doesn't work at all. Also no update to their own good lock app and without that my phone looks even more like trash lol The notification panel is horrible, just a big white block with some blue buttons, my good lock one was so nice, also back to the boring old task switcher I was looking forward to this update so much, but it looks like arse...

It's international n960f Exynos version, but anyway there should not be any difference in the software itself.

There is also a workaround with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid
It's even more prettier, but to be honest, I'm tired of using ADB, rooting and so on.
I had note 2 and note 4, rocking custom roms since beginning, but now I just want everything to be original, and logical.
I have no clue what the f were they doing while in beta, I mean, come on, no fast switching to the previous app if screen gestures are hidden.

Feature and productivity wise it's really a big downgrade. Also those notifications that take the whole screen... seriously. No thought put at all. All is done considering galaxy s10, I am sure of that... and especially nothing was done considering the note 9, even the rounded corners are matched for the s9 rofl.
Only things that a peeving me on Pie is the fact that I have never in my life used Duo or installed it but in my settings/accounts it shows Duo, I remove it but after rebooting phone its back??? that and the inability to deactivate Find my Device, I deactivate it, but after rebooting phone its reactivated again... any ideas (maybe with ADB to sort these 2 issues out?)

Received Tmo Note9 Pie Update - How do I fix clock position?

I've been out of the loop for a while, and don't know all the ins and outs of Pie, but I was excited to see it was coming out and couldn't wait for it...until i woke up yesterday morning and found out that my Tmo Note 9 had installed something called a One UI Update and there was a notification in the upper-left corner that wouldn't go away. I realized it was the clock position, no moved away from the right corner.
Is there any way to move the clock back to the right side so it doesn't look like a perma-notification? Something that doesn't require root?
I've done some quick searches and some results are for the pixel or require root. Another possible solution was to use something called substratum(?) but that still might require root? Other places just said to file a bug report with google, but I doubt that would do anything.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to move the clock, back to where it's been for as long as I can remember, I'd appreciate it.

It shouldn't show just a notification...it shows the actual clock in the status bar.
Also possible with (Samsung) Good Lock and Quick Panel star app

What I mean is that for years, notifications have always been in upper left by default (at least to my knowledge). So when I first looked at my screen, granted I had just woke up and my eyes were still a little fuzzy, it looked like a notification. Then I realized it was the clock.

Ok, now I understand. I thought you meant it was just showing a notification, no clock.
Yeah, this has been discussed many times here in several Pie threads. This isn't a Samsung or One UI thing. It's a change Google implemented in Pie. Theory is, it is to account for notches, an for hole punch displays...like the S10/+ which has the hole on the right.
I never thought it would be this controversial of a change, and I imagine Google didn't either. I've been truly surprised at how many people hate it, LOL. Took me about 30 seconds to adjust to it, and I havent thought about it since. I guess to me it made sense, because in prior versions of Android, when you pulled the notification shade down, the clock moved over to the left anyway. Now it doesn't move.
Thanks for the suggestions for UI Tuner and and Sammy Good Lock; I'll give those a try.
Vote for good lock.
Wanted to report back that over the weekend I installed Good Lock.
Also, as a side note, I live really close to the manager of one of the Tmo stores in town and we chat in passing while walking our dogs every so often. Over the weekend we met each other on one such doggy walk and he had the exact same question for me that I asked here. Apparently he had quite a few people call or come in asking him the same thing too! I pointed him to the Good Lock app and showed him what it did for me. We're all happy campers now!
Appreciate the help, thanks!
Can I use SystemUI Tuner to add seconds to the stock clock?
I tried via the System UI Demo shortcut method and that didn't work. It's not a big deal I just like having the seconds up there as well. Also, will using SystemUI Tuner interfere with Good Lock in anyway?

Question Anyone's At A Glance On Home Screen Jacked -Up Too?!

So there's been some changes with beta build #5, and I'm reading my GA is gonna hook me up with some Krazy Kool custom features to jazz up my At A Glance field(I know, field is the best I could grab but it's not a widget becuz you can't kill it)?!
I hope she thinks of something soon cuz I'm left with this glorified calendar/schedule events thing that's there for the duration (see shots below). Can't even scrape what's left off the glass?! Lol, jk
p.s. Let us all not forget, we wanted beta so we got it.
p.s.s. for the record, the actual At A Glance widget is about midway down on my home screen, as I put it there just for illustrative purposes to accurately reflect what the other critter used to look like back in the day!
Yes, seems it's a bug with latest beta. Hopefully fixed with final version.

I was thinking it was just incomplete, they rushed it or something cuz they got like 3 toggles built into features? Me, I'm maybe a lone-wolf on this, but I've always liked this one from Google(widget whatever), and back a few now that At A Glance sorta spun off of the Google Now launcher theme, didn't it? The little frog dude that pops into the scene, is kinda kool when you close the app(or screen)and go back and tap the weather side of the widget!
(I'm probably the only one on that note)? smh
The three toggles are for customization, I think you will be able to add or turn off calendar, weather etc. It even looks like we will be able to remove at a glance altogether and add your own widget if you go to home settings and tap on cog it has option to disable but currently not working
