Hi guys,
I have just read a previous post from "abdulmaalik1tt" about a problem after an accidental bootloader closing. I have a similar problem but in my case, I think it is harder.
I intentionally closed the bootloader after installing everything in my K20 Pro, but I didn't know that if it is closed by other one than the one who opened it, the phone will brick.
I tried to unlock again, but in 99% the app gives me an error, and ask me to change something in developer options. Obviously, I can't do so, because the phone doesn't boot.
I tried to use miflash but it gives me an error because the bootloader is now closed
Is there a way to unbrick my phone? Should I throw it away through the window?
Thank you in advance.
same case, you open the back, do test point method, if you Mi account is not EDL authorized, you can borrow, or call the guys that help many k20 pro user in XDA.
please help
do you get any solution to this case? i have the same issue.
I had the same problem. Sadly the only thing you can do yourself (it's also the fastest and cheapest option) is to open your smartphone, short the two EDL points on the motherboard to access the EDL mode, contact someone with an authorized Xiaomi account to input his username and password in the Mi Unlock tool (through Teamviewer) and enable you to install the stock Chinese firmware.
The only other option, sadly, which I didn't like at all, is to send it to a Xiaomi service point.
And all of this because the default option in the Mi Flash tool is "install and LOCK". Idiotic.
PM me if you need the contact of the guy with the authorized acc.
if you can boot in fastboot try unlock bootloader with miflash unlock but old version it work for me later unlock bootloader you can flash stock with miflash again
I am in same boat - fake global rom, flashed forgetting to set to Clean all only - so bootloader locked.
Seller is no reachable - so looks like this is my only way.
When you guys say 'short' these two pins - how did you do that? with a paperclip? and you mean from one pin to the other pin?
--Update for future reference of others---
My K20 Pro has been restored with help from the Russian contact provided on previous page - ask nicely, he is very busy so don't waste his time.
My experience was great, he was patient, we made appointment time over whatsapp, we have to try twice as i couldn't get into EDL mode (try a different pair of scissors or tweezers).
Once in EDL he logged into his mi account via my team viewer session and flashed the rom i has prepared (chinese original fastboot).
Right after flashing - had a bit of trouble booting up the first time, it didn't boot when pressing the power button (no usb cable), when i plug in USB cable - it showed 100% battery but also didn't boot. Had to play with disconnect then reconnect the battery THEN unplug cable. And it finally booted the first time.
Thank you guys!

I ended up blocking the bootloader accidentally giving my k20 pro when changing the rom, but when passing the rom by edl, the device does not turn on in any way, when passing the Chinese rom I have to block the bootloader?
Worth Checking out he thread, maybe older mi unlock can remove the bootloader flag for you ? cheers

After trying all kinds of roms from here, I decided to go back to basics and flash a global stable ROM.
In the Mi Flash software I forgot to check the "Clean All" button, and left the default(I don't know why this is the default) "Clean All and lock"
Now, I'm stuck in a recovery(can go to fastboot as well) bootloop, can't even turn it off unless the battery dies. It says at the bottom : "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
I'm unable to flash it again using mi flash, unable to unlock it again as it gives me a weird chinese error, that translated, it think it says : "This phone has been used by account 622****418, by looking for phone lock"
Unable to boot into EDL, tried with a deep flash cable(seems it is not supported anymore)
I didn't open it, as I still have warranty(just bought it 3 weeks ago).
USB Debugging and OEM unlock are off as it was just flashed so it has default values.
The account on it is mine, but apparently mi Unlock is not recognizing it. My Mi account has different digits and I have permission to unlock the bootloader since last year.
Is there any way that I can go around this ?
I'm thankful for any advice that you have, guys...
Your device is most likely permanently bricked - when the bootloader is locked with a global ROM on a Chinese Xiaomi phone, nothing can be done to fix it - except one thing.
Are you sure you're booting into EDL mode correctly? I think you need to short two points on the main PCB while plugging in a USB cable. Xiaomi has a proprietary implementation of EDL mode - IIRC you need special Xiaomi software and a Mi account with the appropriate permissions (you can beg Xiaomi for permission on the Mi forums, or buy a working account from someone online). In EDL mode, you can re-flash the China ROM and recover the device.
Most likely, that's what I'll have to do, but I wanted to consume every chance and tutorial online before I remove the Back glass...SO it's Service Center or Test Point with auth accounts, which it's hard to get. I rather pay. Just wanted to make sure that it's bricked from my perspective, like I can't do anything to fix it from my end. Thanks
There is nothing you can do, the bootloader is now locked and you are on a rom that's not matching.
I used the Russian tech reported in one of the other threads about bricked k20 pro, costed me $20 and I needed to open up the phone, and do test point edl which were all easy and well worth it to save the $650 AUD I paid for the phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/destroyed-error-fastboot-locked-t3946012/page6
just add him on whatsapp and be nice to the tech and he will help you. I saw other posts if you ask him like an ass then he will ignore you.
I definitely don't want to open the phone. If it comes to that, I rather pay someone to do everything with proper tools and software.
You know, try to get in touch with xiaomi support. Explain The case and maybe they unlock it for you from there.

Did you find any solution without edl method? Cause currently I'm facing the same problem.
The only solution here is to go into EDL Mode, if you dont have an authorized mi account, I recommend s-unlock.com they have an automated service and their own tool to flash your phone, go check them out. If you have doubt opening the phone, it isnt hard. Just use playing card first and dont remove it, then find an old credit card to continue further gently.

After removing the back of my phone and fixing it with the help of an awesome dude from Japan found on whatsapp...I tried to unlock my bootloader again, and realised that the account I had in my phone was not the one that I was entering on miUnlock. I couldn't see that because the error message at 99% was in trad Chinese.
Maybe it would've worked if I knew that. If you go into Fastboot and try to unlock it, what message do you get?
Hi there,
unfortunately I bricked my Mi8 during a ROM Flash. I could not see the options as they were "hidden" because of the resolution of my screen. And unfortunately the standard option seems to be "lock", so it did and now I cannot flash any ROM anymore.
Is the method with opening the phone and get in touch with a doggy service to unlock it still up date?
Is there anything I could do? Will Xiaomi help me if I write them an email?
Help would be much appreciated.
Well, not knowing what you flashed and how you did it, it's hard to give an advice.
Can you boot to recovery, fastboot?
If you want some "output" you have to give more "input".
Is you phone recognized if you connect it to the pc? Perhaps you can revive it with mi flash and a complete rom (tgz). Be aware of the danger of relock!
I know I did a mistake as i flashed it wrong as I did not choose the correct setting (just clean instead of clean and lock). I did not see the options when I did the flash as they were "hidden". The Bootloader is locked and therefore I cannot flash another ROM.
I can get into fastboot, no problem. But I cannot load a ROM (Bootloaderbis locked).
I do wonder if there is any way instead of opening the phone and get in touch with a commercial unlocker service.

Wipe data and try again. What's the issue with "resolution of screen"?
Why would the wipe help? I guess all data is errased anyway because iIflashed a fastbootrom via mi flasher. The problem was that a portion of the program (mi flasher) was hidden, the part on the bottom where you choose which flashmethod. Therefore standard is lock device and that happened...

Just try to unlock bootloader again. If it is not possible, you have to contact with someone who has Xiaomi account authorization.
Yeah, like the s unlock service. I think their my last chance after reading through the internet. Not looking forward to open my phone. pfffff...

Is your device a Global or Chinese device and how long ago did you buy it and where from? If the bootloader was unlocked when you attempted to flash whatever you flashed then it was unlocked by someones account. Are you saying that you did not unlock it?
If you did unlock it yourself, then you can unbrick it. If someone else unlock the bootloader you should try contacting that person to get their id and password to unlock the device again, and then you can remove their account from the device and replace it with yours.

Since you have fastboot
You need to download the fastboot rom for whichever device you own. Also, your phone must be clean, you will lose all data.
Mi8 Global Rom: https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1700346
Chinese Mi 8 Rom : http://www.miui.com/download-345.html
Unpack the Rom, on your desktop and then place your phone into EDL Mode or fastboot. - The fastboot Rom comes with the Fastboot flashall script, it will fully restore your phone to the a Stable Rom and Overwrite every partition..
If you unpack the rom and it unzips into a larger version of the rom, unpack the new unpacked larger version, it will unpack into a folder, inside the folder local the flashall.bat file and with the phone connected double click it and wait 5 to 10 minutes until it reboots by itself, you will see the screen to connect to wifi, and then to add you account credentials, enter credentials, enjoy your restored phone.

You don't, ( well not anymore) you only pay someone to unlock if you do not have your account bound to the device. The person that you would pay has a vendors master unlocking account, these are very limited and these people are mostly located in Russia and Vietnam.

Hi there,
that brings some light into the darkness, although I am did not completely understood all you wrote.
1. I bought the device used in Germany and it is the German version. It was unlocked and I installed Havoc OS which worked fine. Then I thought I should update Havoc OS and that'S what I did. This ended in a Bootloop. I went into the Recovery and it was kinda weird as it asked me in chinese to enter my pattern. I did and after that the touchscreen stopped working. Still could get into recovery and also install a new one via fastboot. But same problem. Then I googled and as I understood the solution to other people was an earlier MIUI ROM which I installed via the Mi Flash tool and here I am chosing the wrong selection for the flash and ending up in a brick.
2. I don't have the device connected to my MI account. So I guess I need someone with a vendor account? S Unlock also offers a software (one has still to pay) which works without the help of someone logging into and using e.g. Teamviewer. (at least that is their claim)
3. I cannot connect the device with MI flash and therefore no flash of a ROM is possible which brings me to
4. In any case, I for sure have to ****ing open the phone and play with the EDL Touchpoints? Right?
If one has any further ideas let me know, I am really fed up with this ****.

Okay that better explains your real issue
You had an issue with the lockscreen, which could had been resolved by removing encryption ( formatting user data ) by using ADB or using the Tool All in One. ) Unfortunately, you misunderstood what the issue was and flashed a rom without unchecking unlock bootloader.
Since the bootloader has been relocked, you may need the original account info that unlocked the bootloader. ( If it's still bound to the device) If possible contact the person that you bought the phone from and get their account, then you can use the steps that I listed above by placing the phone into EDL.
If you are asked for a Mi account password, after restoration, then the phone is absolutely still bound to the previous owners account.
You do not necessarily need to open the phone :
You can probably use ADB to place the phone into EDL mode : adb reboot edl
You can use an EDL cable Such as this one
On some phones it is possible to enter EDL by pressing and holding the power button and the volume up and down simultaneously, you can very that the phone is in EDL by connecting it to your PC then go to Control Panel/System/ports <<<< Here you will see port 9008, that means you are in EDL mode.
After installing fastboot rom via flash all.bat method
After connecting to WIFI, you may be asked for the Mi Cloud account (if linked) If so contact the previous owner for that account info, then once the phone has gone through setup, remove the account from the phone in settings/Backup ( It is also possible that the phone is not bound to a account) If no account is linked then you will be able to link a new account and then wait 72 to 360 hours to be able to re-unlock the bootloader.
If the phone is bound to a previous user,
The only option is to use a reputable service company who has a master unlock account. if this is indeed the case, you should try contact Xiaomi and see if they can recommend someplace close to where you live.
@berndbrecht
I just found out via the Mi-Globe website that a XDA member has an official Xiaomi Unlock account and the price is extremely fair: I would suggest contacting @NikSalsa
You can read the same article that I did here : https://mi-globe.com/unbrick-your-xiaomi-phone-without-authorized-mi-account/
Also, there are a couple of additional options listed , if you have trouble reaching NikSalsa
Hey there! My friend brought me the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, he got it from his aunt, she wanted to throw it away as she forgot her password to her Mi Account and the phone due to the FRP is unusable. The problem even graduates, because she has it paired with her old old phone number, so no way recovering her password.
So my question is, how does Xiaomi FRP works and how can I bypass it? I never faced this problem, and I'm stuck on this for the fourth day. I'm bypassing Google FRP on almost daily basis, but this one works different way. Here is what I have tried.
I tried to mess with the Mi account using Quick Shortcut, like with the GAM.
Tried using second space functionality and delete the account from there - it's not there.
Flashed a stock ROM using Mi Flash Tool - no luck. Then tried it again, with persist.img flashing enabled. I got into the phone, was able to turn on USB debugging and mess around, but then when I connected it to the Wi-Fi, it became locked again - WHICH MAKES ME THING...
...that when it connects to the internet, the device brings up to the Xiaomi servers and asks for details. So possible solutions I can think of are:
Disabling the Mi services completely before connecting to the Wi-Fi so it will not get locked - I guess
Changing some device numbers (IMEI's, etc.) but I don't know how the device identifies itself with the servers, and how to do it in the first place
Flashing there some custom ROM (preferably Lineage OS) - but this brings the problem that I dunno how I would flash it directly, or how do I flash TWRP first, because I don't have unlocked bootloader (I flashed the stock ROM using EDL mode by shorting those two pins on the motherboard)
Thank you for your help a lot!
If you would have read my question, you would know that I'm asking how does Xiaomi FRP works, not the Google one. This phone is locked with Mi Account. But still, thank you!
Hello,
Just after receiving my new Redmi K20Pro Premium Edition, I tried to change the China ROM to the K20Pro Indian one, with the hope to use Netflix and GPay.
I used Adb, fastboot and Miflash as recommanded. Everything works well. The phone bootloaded again but stopped on Main menu with this message :
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
There, nothing worked anymore. the fastboot oem device-info says the phone is locked.
To unlock using Miflash-unlock I need to modify the Mi status of my Mi account in the phone. Impossible to do if the phone does not bootload...
If I try to flash a new ROM (China Raphaels specific for K20pro Premium) the Miflash program blocks because the phone is locked...
I do not know how solve this blockage.
Could you help me?
Don't know should you search now for a paid help by EDL authorized user, or is there an easier way
But in MiFlash, at the bottom/right, there is the default option: Clean all and lock, you should have checked-in instead: Clean all
Most users just want to flash (and clean) without relocking, and every week somebody similarly bricks his Mi 9* - if he/she didn't miss the default relock option, he would still be able to flash a proper firmware to safe his phone, but with the relocked bootloader he is f* up with no second chance
Don't know why developer(s) of MiFlash implemented the 'wrong' option for default - but the hook is there for long time and it keeps the EDL authorized helpers busy ?
Thanks. It what I understood a little bit too late.
Do you know how to contact a EDL authorized user?

Search (here) or ask.
They usually use T...gram accounts and such posts are not permitted (albeit users like you do need help, it's meaningless to dispose the bricked phones to garbage just like that).
If you are quick enough, you will find the contact before the post gets deleted?
If you are already on some T..gram support group for Xiaomi, safely ask there
My phone suddenly get stucked into Redmi boot logo, cannot access system recovery but can access fastboot menu.
The problem is I hadn't enabled OEM unlock and developer options before. All the methods that I found so far requires bootloader unlock for that I also don't have MI account . What might be my next move? Thank you.
its hard to say what we can|t do with a still locked bootloader. if going to an authorized service center is out of reach, all we can do is try i guess. id still suggest going there if you can easily access your google account.
there are a few threads that say we can flash a still locked bl, but im not so sure.

With EDL mode? I'm in a similar situation, a friend's mother forced a shutdown during a firmware update and destroyed the system that way. Of course the bootloader is blocked. I find it extremely stupid of Xiaomi to rely on a working system to give you the chance to unlock the bootoader but I guess that's how you sell some extra phones.
So far I've taken out the rear cover and the plastic that goes on top of the motherboard, unplugged the battery and with an arduino cable and some fiddeling shorted the "boot" pins while connecting the USB cable. Seems to be working given that MiFlash has changed the locked bootloader error for "indice fuera de limites" or in English "index out of limits error". I guess I don't have the right ROM so I'm downloading another one, but I'm struggilng to find the correct original fastboot ROM. The first one I've downloaded from Mi Community, the second one is from xiaomifirmwareupdater, but is gonna take forever to download. And I mean... F-O-R-E-V-E-R
