I've seen threads with this issue or that issue, but no single thread yet dedicated to issues that have cropped up for HTC Vivid users since the ICS OTA update.
I run stock-- No root, no custom rom, just stock the way it came from AT&T.
The phone has been wonderful. Battery standby time was phenomenal (on a full charge, I could expect to take my phone to work around 6:30 am, and see a minimum 60% to 75% left when I got home around 5:30 pm). I never experienced random reboots, crashes, etc.
Then I updated OTA to the new ICS using standard AT&T procedure-- This would be the official release, downloaded and installed last week.
Now, if I reboot the phone, I have to wait while it installs updates it already had when I installed ICS. This is a minor incovenience, but annoying.
I also see noticeably less standby time. I'm lucky now to have 50% left when I get home from work.
Most alarming, though, is the nightly crash on the charger. My dad is in and out of the hospital with heart issues, so turning off my phone to charge it isn't really an option. Every night since I updated, my phone random reboots on the charger (last night it did it twice).
So now I'm seriously wondering:
(1) Is anyone else having these new issues since updating to the official ICS release?
(2) Is there some way I can "downgrade" to the more stable version my phone had before (the extra features and tweaks aren't worth the tradeoff for stability and standby time)?
Thanks to any and all who take the time to consider this post and reply accordingly.
Why not try downloading the official RUU since you are still locked,
http://www.htc.com/us/support/vivid-att/downloads/ and install it
sounds like something scewed up when you uploded the OTA update via phone.
A little more detail...
I think it's important to note that these random reboots I've been getting since upgrading to ICS are only partially random.
They only happen when the phone is on the charger and "on." I recall a "charge death" issue with my old Samsung Captivate that perhaps I'm experiencing now with the upgraded HTC Vivid?
I know the obvious workaround is to charge it before going to bed, take it off the charger, then top it off the following morning. Perhaps I'll try that before doing the upgrade over again using the RUU. It's perplexing due to when it happens-- I know the phone doesn't require a full 3.5 hours to charge from, say, 35%, so it's some sort of charger keep-alive that must be forcing the reboot.
I'm still curious, though, to learn if anyone else is having these exact same issues after upgrade.
Thanks, Pumpiron579, for your suggestion! I've just downloaded the RUU and have it ready when I decide to try the update again.
I've upgraded to the latest ICS from AT&T and am not experiencing any of the reboot issues that you're speaking of. I put my Vivid on a charging dock and it goes into doc mode and is that way when I wake up in the morning. I even have it trip an alarm at 7AM. If it's rebooting overnight, I'm not aware of it. In GB there was a screen that told you the up time and sleep time. I can't find it on ICS otherwise I could confirm whether or not it is rebooting overnight.
As for battery life, it doesn't appear to be any worse than GB for me and for today, It's been on the battery over 1.5 hrs and still at 100% battery.

Thanks for that, homeslice, but I don't see overall up time. With GB, there was some counter that could show the hundreds of hours that it has been up since the last reboot.

I've never paid too much attention to this...but when you go in and click on the battery time underneath the battery level, there's another uptime below the graph that i figured was total uptime?
I updated with the RUU and have had no problems with my phone what so ever, I have had no reboots when chargeing and the battery life is about the same for my phone. Also my phone is stock with bootloader locked.
My battery life seems to be about the same. However, I am getting a better LTE signal - 3 bars vs 1-2 bars before the upgrade.
The one thing that I've found to be an irritation is that before the upgrade, any photos attached to emails were automatically saved in a folder accessible by the Gallery. After the upgrade, they are saved in the Downloads; and that folder is not accessible from the Gallery. I have to use a file manager program like Astro to manually move the photo file to one of the Gallery accessible folders.
If there's a way to fix this, I would be all ears.
Battery life sucks after ICS upgrade
after I upgraded to ICS my batter life sucks, it used to come for a day, now its reaching 15% before evening.
Is this a known issue, is there a way to get a better battery life
Thanks

As far as I can tell you get the android is upgrading/optimizing every time dalvik cache is cleared..which from what I can tell happens on every reboot with a Rom that's not deodexed..like the stock Roms. Get on a Rom that's been deodexed and this won't happen. Otherwise enjoy the feature lol

fix battery issues
Sorry to hear about the random reboots, and I hope a solution comes around. I personally have found no reboot issues at all. There is a problem with using Bluetooth hands free though, you can't press the call button on the device to make a voice call because Android removed the voice dialer so now you just hear a beep.
In regards to your battery, install Advanced Task Killer from the market. In the settings, set up the recommended kill list, the aggressiveness, and activate auto kill. I've been using it for a while and i can go all day with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Pandora, and other apps. After 10+ hours at work i get home with 35-40% battery still. Hope this helps. It also has a widget you can out on a homescreen so you can simply click and it kills what you set up already.
I used to have some random reboots in GB, turned to be an app or a widget that caused the problem. I did then a wipe amd installed minimal apps that I needed and didn't have the problem anymore. Then I started to install other apps one by one monitoring which one might be the problem, but I couldn't replicate it nomore. It was in the same time I experienced multiple (if not all of them) launchers and widgets so I don't even remember what I really had on it. This also might be for battery life too. Now I only use sense and the stock widgets and adw ex once in a while, I have >180 apps installed and no reboots and also battery life is very good.

Twice while streaming pandora over bluetooth I've had the phone just die. My music shuts off, screen is off, phones not responding, have to pull the battery. Also I've had issues with music skipping on bluetooth. Also third party apps won't show contact pictures that rely on Facebook. Worked fine before the
Update. Im considering wiping it and reinstalling everything.

I am having the same issue. I am working with HTC on this issue. I have no idea what is causing this. You will find that it does it more frequently, not only when it is charging.

So are we able to go back to the Original Stock/Shipped Rom if we don't like this update?
I saw some things I liked about it in the recent reviews, but others that I didn't.
I just got the AT&T update to 5.0 a few days ago, and the battery drain was incredibly fast, just like 8 hours when I first had it.
I did some checking around and finally did a factory reset from recovery, and that has helped a little. If I restart the device every few hours, it seems to help somehow...
But when I put it down at night, the battery drains down 50-60% in just the few 6 or 7 hours it lies there. I have tried apps like gsam and the stock usage monitor, and compared them to the process stats in developer mode, and come up with nothing. Most of the process stats are showing near or at 100%, by the way...
Another great side affect of the upgrade is now when I use Maps with location in high accuracy mode and hooked up to the charger, it gets really stupid hot. And it never used to do any of this before. Is this whole upgrade just a POS or is it just my device? i swear I used to get 2-3 days of battery before this. Help me save the upgrade before I roll it back to the old software, thanks.

Did you ota, or flash rooted 5.0? Sounds like a bad flash...if a factory reset didn't fix it I'd suggest downgrade back to ne4 and start fresh.
Mine and GF both g870a's and are running great on 5.0.
I took the OTA and then immediately did a factory reset.
I can't remember exactly, but also check that the OTA did not set GPS to auto update apps. I THINK it did on mine.
I'm also running great on 5.0 FYI

I checked that and it wasn't the problem. I think I pinpointed the issue... I tried running in safe mode for a day with a small improvement, but not much.
Then I went back to normal mode and deleted each app separately and after three deletes, I got rid of the Weatherbug app and all is apparently better. I found some others posts on this forum regarding this app causing problems after an upgrade as well...
Any thoughts? I kinda liked that app.

Although I like the tablet UI for this app much better...I've been running with the Weather Channel app for the last year...using static locations and not using MPoints. I am totally opposed to installing anything with Weather Bug in the name due to the amount of malware and ineffiencies found on PC versions of that app. I've forcibly removed and cleansed it from many a friends PC/laptops. YMMV.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the XDA mobile app
Now, a few days in, I can completely confirm it was the WeatherBug app. I have had three days without a charge (now sitting at 13%!) and it looks like it could go 5 without much use.
I am scared to try another weather app, but I'm gonna try the weather underground thing...
Has anyone else had these issues? I am planning to take this phone back tomorrow. The touch screen is completely random. It'll randomly scroll fast or click while scrolling. Playing games is near impossible because it won't recognize every touch. As i type this, it seems to randomly repeat words that i type and i have to delete them. The battery life for a new phone seems terrible. I had better battery life with my 1+ year old S5 with the original battery. If the phone is hot at all (which seems to happen randomly as well) it'll take hours to charge and the battery will drain incredibly quick. I charged it for around 6 hours and it was still at 60%, using the factory charger too. This is the worst experience I've had with a new "high end" android phonephonw (theres theres the double word issue i mentioned. Even did it while typing about the double word issue lol)

Check settngs - About Phone - Software info and see if your software version is LS991ZV5. This version of the software fixed the touchscreen for me. If you haven't received it yet, you may check your local Sprint repair center store and see if they can force a download for you.
I still have the touch screen problems with zv5
Is anyone else having huge issues with battery drain after updating to 5.1.1. I've disabled all the crap, wiped my cache, disabled enhanced LTE. and have minimal apps installed besides stock. Just took the phone off the battery charger. It was at 100% when removed. It's been sitting for 40 min with the screen off. The battery is down to 93% already with 3% being used by Android system, 1% by system UI, and 1% by Android OS. This is nuts. I can't even get through 1/2 a day of regular use. Any ideas?
Big time. My phone isn't going to sleep. My Android System Stay Awake time is more than double my screen on time.
I'm having the same problem. I currently have Location History turned on to get more surveys on Google Opinion Rewards (I could turn that off if I wanted to); and I also know that because I'm not in WiFi during the day, the Lollipop mobile radio active bug keeps the radio awake way longer than it should. It's crazy that I can leave my phone alone during the day and watch it drop ~5% an hour because of the horrible standby behavior.
There is something wrong with your phone or app. I have about 100 apps. No problem here.

I guess it might make sense to stay on 5.0.2 in hopes of a future bootloader unlock and to stay away from a potential battery draining bug. If only AT&T would embrace a more open approach to this model phone. I only got this phone because the nexus was out of stock and I was in need of a new phone. My trusty old S3 was a godsend, with its unlocked bootloader and fully open platform. The fact that AT&T is closing up the ability to root the phone is drastic enough, let alone introducing bugs that make you want to throw the phone at the wall (battery drain).
How can I see what is keeping my phone awake without root? It's staying awake 3/4 of the time and below is a shot of my app usage. What I can tell it's a system issue, but not sure. And yes I factory reset twice and wiped cache.
Same here. factory reset cache wipe x2 and have everything non essential disabled. It's driving me nuts! This phone was a rockstar until this update. Going to best buy tomorrow and will see if the Samsung folks can reinstall the update or something. I'll post what I find out.
Battery life is worse than my old s4. The screen barely takes any of it, when it used to be more than half the battery life on my s4. Yet I still get about the same screen on time.
Yup I completely agree. Left my phone at 53% overnight and I woke up to the phone completely drained and dead. It's ridiculous.
I noticed something odd. On wifi, battery life is great, maybe 1% every 2 hours idle. But without wifi, battery life goes down 10% an hour idle.
Finally made it to the Samsung center at best buy. The guy was able to force the update again and everything went smooth. So far maybe a little better, not sure yet. I'll post when I know for sure if it worked and was a bad update.
So after the forced re-do of the update it wasn't any better. List 20% at night with everything off. Dido another factory reset and cache wipe and that seems like it might have fixed it. Only 4% list last. Not as good as it was but definite improvement. Hope this helps anyone else with same issue.

TurboRZR please update... would love to know if that fixed it before I wipe my S6 for a second time.
I too am having an issue with the new 5.1.1 update where my "Android System" is getting stuck in a stay awake loop draining my battery. Sometimes a simple restart will fix it for a few hours, but it will always come back.
I installed wakelock detector and set it up to run on a non-rooted phone. When I pulled the statistics , the biggest battery drain I had under "Android System" was diagnostic.client.network. Nothing else even came close to the drain this resource was pulling.
This was as far as I was able to get as I have no idea what that is or how to disable it if I even should.
I have resolved the issue on my S6 Edge, I even attempted a factory reset which didn't resolve the issue. I had noticed my Wifi usage in GSAM was very high (50-70%) and after some searches I found that someone else posted in a different forum (I think it was the S6 Active forum) that the issue was related to multicast being enabled on wifi routers. I disabled it on my fios router (it's in a hidden menu) and it resolved my drain. I am now at 12 days uptime without a random drain. I also had to disabled Enhanced LTE as that was causing a HUGE drain at times when I didn't have LTE. I hope this helps.

Got it!
s10+. at the moment I'm on the locked Verizon version until I paid off I can unlock it.
I got one UI 2.5 update last night I got two problems so far.
I just woke up unplugged my phone 30-45 minutes ago I'm at 92% already battery.
all I've been doing was using chrome to search why I have a battery icon with the speedometer.
come to find out that one UI 2.5 added this icon when you're in high performance mode which 2.1 did not do this.
any way to get rid of that icon?
The only two apps that were running at the battery usage is chrome which I was using and then Google play I didn't open.
between the two screenshots it ate 2% which was not even less than 5min.
I have the sprint device with me and i don't live in US so apparently my sim is on emergency mode only even tho it says in settings that uicc is unlocked and i can use any sim in it. Any help?
Is anyone else getting horrible battery life since update?
Got it about 12 hours ago (AT&T). So far, my phone feels smoother, and more responsive. No difference in battery life compared to before the update, but it's still early <shrug>

I was having horrible battery life so I haven't been paying attention to it yesterday so.
I noticed that you no longer get the system generated VPN connection notification anymore.
I got the update and now volte and wifi calling are available options under connection settings. I'm on redpocket gsma network btw.
Installing it right now too.
And as I already read, it changes nothing about the horrible battery life. time to sell this garbage
After using this update for a while, I can say on my S10 plus, I definitely am getting better battery life. Significantly better in fact I don't have it quantitatively defined, but just subjectively I can go a day and a half without charging if I need to, with the same utilization patterns as before when it would barely go 3/4 of one day.
Those of you who get it please mention your carrier. Shouldn't make a difference but it does. Looks like at&t, Verizon, and sprint right now? (Yes,I know T-mobile got sprint but still not fully incorporated)
I´m also have worst battery life.
