I use uMatrix, but bought ad-free to support XDA.
Setting up XDA Ad-free
Here is one possible reason there may be 'so few with xda ad-free' - as a new member of xdadevelopers forums, I initially found it difficult to find out: (i) how to send feedback about Pixel Dust OS for my Pixel (said to be welcomed), (ii) how to post questions and maybe add some helpful information about OTA updates in the right forum (partly to see how xda worked before paying for xda ad-free), and (iii) how to obtain and pay for xda ad-free. I almost gave up, but I think I have done it now (fingers crossed).

one of my college classes is almost all blackboard, and I would love to have this on my phone, instead of the computer.
Edit: I will pay for someone if they do a good job.

This one's not letting me log in. But at least I didn't get the Verizon denial message because my school doesn't pay for mobile access.

wow thanks works for me :-D
Thank you so much!
Thanks a bunch for that link, works great on my Captivate.
Seriously, thank you so much, I have 4 classes that use Blackboard exclusively and their website is a huge pain through the browser.
Good News: Blackboard for Android works for me!
Bad News: My school chose to only allow access to Sprint users!
Awesome!

Every time I visit another website, and then come back to XDA (yes I do close out that window before coming back to XDA), I see an advertisement for that website on XDA ? (or should I say, products advertised on that website)
Well, not every time, but .................
Happens to me too... I see mostly photo lens ads xD
Sent from my HTC Sensation using XDA App
I am pretty sure that will happen on any side you visit...thats how add revenue is so popular
Is there a setting you can adjust under Internet options to minimize this ?
Also, according to "Hotmail," if you close out the previous web-page, that's supposed to prevent this.
There is a way indeed... It's called ad-block and cookies clear on browser exit

I'll give it a try, with reservations. Hope it doesn't turn out to be one of these: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/01/winsoftware.shtm
Why does it even matter? I personally never even pay attention to any of the ads.

Takes longer to load pages on sites that run many ads.
OK, I just made a post in the off topic photo thread about the Panasonic Lumix ZR3, and now I'm seeing ads for the ZR3 on XDA!!!!
I've read an entire book on XP pro from cover to cover, owned 6 laptops, understand the in's and out's of converting and burning video's/CD's.
But would somebody please explain to me what's going on here ? And/or refer me to some appropriate tutorials.
Thank you

Ah ha, the tip of the iceberg.............
Yup, XDA hasn't invented some awesome method, it's just the standard ad technology from the provider (doubleclick or dart iirc)
There's an opt-out on the ad network's site, to disable the tracking.
Is it a perk of being a recognised dev that I never see ads? I recently saw the site when I wasn't logged in and was like whaaaaaa?

It is. I thought that you would have had to actually go in and enable it yourself but maybe they do it for you automatically. To answer your question though, Yes.
But shhhhh..... That might be a secret

I need to know which adverts it is you're seeing that are using this...
If you hover over them, try and get the domain name of it. If it's a google/doubleclick one, head to http://www.google.co.uk/privacy/ads/ for information about this. That's the google UK link, but there will be a suitable one for your region too (and I think it's a generic thing anyway)
Arent they called ad sense or something like that?

Folks - I've read great things about the Cataclyst ROM but found the official thread on it had been closed by an XDA moderator. If I install it and run into issues, would there be some people supporting it and what thread?
Thx

Maybe we should let @atl4ntis know that we love to see him back in whatever XDA thread or XDA (sub)forum. Not only for his work, but also because he is a helpfull and nice person.
Possibly his XDA account is still active.
We could mention him in our posts so he knows we do not forget. At this moment we have to respect his decision because he is hurt.

The mention might work unless like most of the more senior members he has mention notifications turned off.
Can anybody please tell me what happened?
His rom is perfect as it's stock with just enough amount of customization.
Sad that he left.

As I understand it there was a dispute with another dev and that lead to a dispute about whether or not his rom was original work. XDA moved it to the non original section and he decided to abandon the project.

Here in the Netherlands @atl4ntis was popular. The Dutch press praised him for his 'cataclysm mod'.
The bulk of the problem was that he claimed his work was all original, yet refused to provide evidence to back his claims. Before anyone starts in on the "Apache license doesn't require sources" line, I know he was within his rights to refuse to show his sources. However, if you don't show sources, how can you reasonably expect anyone to believe your work is original?
The XDA staff made the right call here. If you refuse to prove your work is original, your work doesn't get to be located in the Original Android Development forum. In any event, this will be a moot point going forward as all new devices will only have one development section. That said, the mods and/or admin should be going through all device forums that have both an Android Development and Original Android Development subforum, and merging the two subforums into one.

I am unable to post links here. The information is on the short wikipedia page dedicated to Shedun.
Based on the wikipedia article it seems to be a fairly easy process to acquire Shedun and it claims to auto root the infected device. Is it viable to infect my device with the virus and then later flash a custom rom to remove it?
I haven't found any other posts on the subject so my apologies if this has already been asked. Samsung s6 edge plus with verizon carrier.

The S6Edge+ is different from the S6 Edge, therefore I find this an inappropriate place to post such information. Moreover, although some root techniques used Trojans, unless the Trojan was specifically designed for said purpose, it is likely a piece of software that should be avoided. If a new root exploit were discovered for this device, do you not think the community would be discussing it extensively?
Thank you.
I don't have anything to do today. I'll see how easy it is to decompile and read the code to see how it works. Our community us dead so it's on us to look for anything

Let me tell you all a story about a satisfying app called fluid simulation!
Its made by Pavel Dobryakov (not me!) in unity. With his special shaders and the ability to set it as a live wallpaper its a must for any android user out there.
It comes with many toggles to change the way the fluids look and behave.
It comes with a free version and a paid one, with the only difference being the amount of options.
Free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.paveldogreat.fluidsimfree
Pro: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.paveldogreat.fluidsim
If there are any bugs or questions please join the discord: https://discord.gg/yDnsFw7 and don't ask them here! I'm not the developer of this app so I cant help with any of them!
Some screenies
Should ask your friend to post it up in the android app section, no? It would get far more exposure and xda members could find support in his threads, as many don't use discord or other support places, cause they like xda for that.
Just a suggestion! :good:

The actual developer of this app doesn't want to use XDA since its just another way of communicating with his community. He just said link them to my discord, y'know?

Well there's the thing, generally speaking, the app section is supposed to be for members own work....not the work of others. Its there to post work and provide support, which sounds like he's not interested in. Ah well.
