Please recommend me a custom ROM with best battery life? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hello all, I am looking for 2 recommendations:
1. Custom ROM/kernel combo with the best battery life (no restrictions or requirements, just battery life)
2. Custom ROM/kernel combo that with below requirements and the most battery life
Must have:
as good/better camera than stock
Fingerprint same speed as stock
Stock Android
Google Pay working (I can use magisk to get it working right?)
Double tap to sleep
MIUI full screen gestures
Nice to have:
Complete customizeable quick toggle icons (specifically changing screen timeout)

Havoc

You can't have MIUI gestures on AOSP so stick with xiaomi.eu or Havoc/Lineage.
I'm aware that POSP (Potato Open Source Project) has some kind of gesture navigation but it's not near as good as MIUI.

Right or Vivid Gestures also, I would like to keep it built in because I'm afraid of battery drain.

Syberia + ANX Camera + Magisk + GPay fix from the Lineage OS thread + Fluid NG (since it´s simply better than the build in two different gesture options). I get 7-8h battery life (SoT) with this setup on my Mi 8. Haven´t been happier with the device ever.

I was until three days ago. Back on Miui now using the latest xiaomi.eu version. Gpay works, no magisk needed and face unlock does too, the only reason why I was still on Syberia and didn't upgrade to Revenge OS. Battery runtime is good, but maybe so because I replaced the battery with a brand new one. Such a difference. Android 10 is nice too. Just the font sizes are all over the place, probably caused by Xiaomi's attempt to include that scalable font stuff.

I'm in the Philippines right now so I went to the official Xiaomi Service Center and let them do it. Cost just 18€ and was done in 30mins. Battery in the normal Mi8 has the product code BM3e. You need heat to remove the back plate (they have a nice specialized machine for that, like a phone oven) and then remove some parts to reach the connector. It's not super complicated as far as I saw, but removing the back without damaging it might be tricky.

I understand. Thank you. I will also go to a Service Center as they have an official one here. I can't take the risk doing it myself and damaging the phone.

This is a community build, not final or the like. They can't have two teams working on a ROM?

Had a quick look at the survey and spotted this... please tell me they are not thinking about adding more crap into their OS?
Have you installed Clean Master? *
If so, which feature do you use the most?
Clean Junk
App Lock, protect your privacy
Battery saver, hibernate apps
Antivirus
Phone Boost
Notification Management
Uninstall, backup and move your apps
I don't use it
I really do not like where this is going.

Honestly? I don't think so. Waste of money.
If they're working on a MM build, i suppose it will take veeeery long time before we can see something based on Android 7.

I know but... Only if you don't mind pictures quality....
given the direction OOS is heading (w/ the community builds) I'd prefer to stay on CM, just hoping OP drops the OOS camera blobs like Carl Pei said they would so we can have equal quality photography on custom ROMs soon
sad since OOS 3.2.4 is pretty amazing as is.

They already have two teams working on ROMs. One for OOS and the other for H2OS. This is probably done by the H2OS team. If you don't like it, don't use it and stick with 3.2.4 since this is just a community build.

At some point though they will deprecate 3.2.x and 3.5.x will take over with all of the (possible) value added software we love like cleaner master!.
Very thankful we have a fantastic dev community here who will strip out whatever crap OP put in.

There's no indication that they'll do that. But...you always have the option to install another ROM instead. OR as you said, strip **** out you don't want. But take into account that they're a Chinese company, with a vast majority of their user base probably is in China, so they want to cater that user base. I don't mind the visual aspects of 3.5, but you're right that more bloat is bad.
PSA if anyone hasn't already tried, installing a Substratum theme causes the phone to get stuck at 1+ logo upon reboot

We need Global MIUI 8 for Oneplus 3T

Hi, i know there's already a similar thread, but as there's no MIUI 8 global for oneplus 3t, i ask it there another time.
Can someone, somehow port the global rom for this device, there's only a chines one made by Wu, and i'm not the only one looking for multiple language.
I'v tried to translate the one made by Wu using jBART, but it bootloop and doesn't work.
The best would be a Rom including Dash Charging, and OOS's camera, and the side slider.
Thx you a lot for your support..

Just need kernel source release for Nougat and then a suitable kernel to match OOS 4.0.1 on the OP3 T.
I think Xiaomi is your best bet if you want MIUI 8.

Hydrogen OS V10 New update with Latest security patch 28th Sep 2017

The Chinese variant of Oxygen OS called the Hydrogen OS is beings updated to version 10 The H2OS v10 comes to OnePlus 5 with the latest Android security patch level. The update log only states about the device receiving the latest Android security level. So we could assume the new September 2017 security patch level or the August. Moreover, the device jumped from H2OS v7 directly to the H2OS v10. However, this only mean good news for ONEPLUS 5 as the global variant may soon receive Oxygen OS 4.5.11+. H2OS V10 comes in support for custom ringtones for notifications. Now you can set different tines for different app notifications. It also optimizes app launch speed. Some bug fixes for the latest Launcher and its user interface. The complete update log has been listed below. It is translated from one of the Chinese languages.
Changes:
System changes
-Support for custom notification ringtone
-optimize application launch speed
- repair some unusual interface display problems
-allow the unloading of the system built-in applications
- Update Android security patches
Bug fixes:
- fix the problem after logging Exchange contacts can not be synchronized. Users experiencing this problem, please contact customer service to help deal with, or go to the forum and follow the instructions
- Repair other details

Just wondering they do not update until Oreo It's not like the world stops before Oreo . The minor update you are talking about isn't that minor it is the most important one a security update.

After being on freedomos for a while and coming to hydrogen i have to say this is actually insanely fast and well optimized. This is the best android experience ive ever had. Each singular percent of my battery depletes so slowly i actually got sick of watching it for tests. I have my own set of tweaks i enjoy using on kernel adiutor and franco kernel (which works btw) that i can get an hour of SoT in 5-6%. Very nice without all the google extras i do believe that plays a major role in the battery saving as well as Franco
How do I get Google play store to work also do OOS based kernels work ? For example blu_spark ??

Just flash Lineage or AOSP?

Hej,
as the Xiaomi Mi 8 supports project treble.
Can I just download a ROM from here and flash it?
Thank You very much
On the Redmi 4x you need a treble enable TWRP. Dont know if the Redmi is officially suppported by treble.
Maybe we can just flash with TWRP. Have to wait another 300 hours to try :/
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is a treble device, at least it was told that any device which is released with oreo running supports it. Also the treble check app says it supports is. (Only A partition) which seems to be normal with xiaomi devices
So I just flashed this ROM.
Seems, that Lineage does not yet know a notch
I hope that maybe android auto runs without the black borders... then I am gonna switch

Would you mind sharing your experience? What about fingerprint, and other hardware parts does everything work? Is it snappy? I'm really surprised it just works! Just amazing eagerly waiting for mine :>
Screen brightness is nailed to 50% and it cannot be changed, also Livedisplay does not work.
Also the just basic camera was a problem.

Custom ROM/Developer?

Hi guys! Just want to ask regarding custom ROM developer for our device as I noticed that there is only one developer that is working as of now. And based on his thread his not willing to work with anyone.
My question is any chance that there for other developer to work on our device? Coming from my previous device(mia1) lineage is well supported, little bit worried plus this is also my first time using miui and I'm not impressed. But hardware is top notch plus no moving parts ,this is a good device.
This question is just query without any demand to anyone. Thank you.
I'm using Pixel Experience GSI bro, and straight up not having a good time, but still better than miui (it's my personal taste). At this point, consider how this device had been out, i dont think we see any official roms any time soon
Unfortunately, the smartphone doesn't get the attention it deserves. But hope dies last.

Yes you're right. I think mi 9 lite is superior than mi 9 se(small battery) and mi9t(moving front camera. Only downside is the processor, but you will not notice the difference in day to day task. Hopefully some devs will notice our device as this one should be the mia3. If @Flex can help us,that will be great. No 1 contributor to mia1.

I'm also working on a rom for the device. There sure is a steep learning curve. At the moment, building roms that are based on Android 10 are quite a pain due to the fact that Xiaomi has not released the Android Q kernel source for pyxis. They're still on Pie.
