Hello fellas,
I am creating this new thread as I have searched for relevant topic in this Red Magic 3 Forum and found none.
So let's discuss the issue that I had and I am certain most of you guys red magic 3 owner or Android owners face too.
I have purchased a bluetooth earpiece called pamu slide T6 from indiegogo (this is the URL https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pamu-slide-born-for-music-never-fall-out#/) and this earpice supports aptX codec which is the latest codec from Bluetooth that can provide a latency as low as 30ms compare to SBC/AAC that about 300ms.
The reason I purchased red magic 3 is solely for gaming purpose, mainly PUBG Mobile and I purchased this bluetooth earpiece just want to try and pair it while playing but when tested, the results are very worst, delay audio, out of sync with the action, jump, crawl, shoot, steps everything in the game audio was delayed so much almost 1 second.
On red magic 3 bluetooth device, I click on its settings and there shown that it is using HD Audio:AAC (meaning it is streaming using AAC codec) which explains the delay because AAC codec streams around 300ms latency (I got this info from soundguys)
Next, I go to developer settings and tried to change the AAC codec to aptX but it just wont stick to aptX after I select it and click Back from developer settings, I go in the settings and it is still showing AAC codec as the codec, not aptX. Tried to restart the phone and re-pair the bluetooth earpiece but still, it sticks to AAC.
So I came to a mind whether my earpiece fool me and I pair the earpiece with my samsung galaxy S7 edge and my s7 edge is using aptX codec so which means my earpiece does support aptX codec and tried PUBG Mobile which I am shocked that it is still delay just the same as using red magic 3, i mean how can it be although my s7 edge has used aptX codec ??
I read a lot on google and most articles said that the problem is not with the bluetooth earpiece but it is the Android issue that does not support real time sync audio with bluetooth earpiece because how the Android OS process their system files etc.
But I just want to make sure that my phone red magic 3 does support aptX codec and I just cant change it to aptX, why ?
Additional findings: While the iphone (IOS) pair with apple airpods, the codec they use is AAC but the results are spectacular, no audio delay in gaming PUBG Mobile, everything is perfect, the steps, shoot, jump, etc are just like using a cable earphone. I am amazed at how IOS developers can do such thing that makes AAC codec stream so perfectly in sync between iphone and their own airpods. I test this using iphone 8+ with apple airpods gen 1
So in the end, the root cause why Bluetooth audio cant work with Android phone is because of the Android itself.

I solve the problem with magisk aptx. Its because aptx nubia not paying Qualcomm? I don't know what. But i have kz aptX and i solve the problem. Btw my bludio don't have aptX or aac codex still works fine in pubg. It's Bluetooth 5.0
Just got the reply from redmagic support and they told me that the phone does not support aptx codec. Lol I am very shocked tho after all it has bluetooth 5 but still no aptx codec.
Well, question answered and mystery solved. Admin can close this thread as no more discussion is needed. Thank you.

Hi ladies & gentlemen, especially technical gurus,

So, choice of convenience / solution or by ranking of convenience: -
flash aptX codec into existing BT chip within Android phone. Requires purely software only. Does anyone have these software pacakges, tool, aptx codec? Mind me, aptX is a licence and needs to be paid, but surely CSR will not be collecting individually. Who am I to them
flash aptX codec directly into BT chip on phone PCBA. Requires software as above and needs to open up phone and hardwire direct to BT linkage. Can anyone do this?
Buy a 3.5mm stereo jack to BT aptX transmitter, choice of: -

Just in case someone is interested, here's a forum chat with someone from aptX

So, let the ridiculous CHAT beginssssssssssssssssssssssssss.
Well, incase you like such stories, aptX was bought by CSR 2010 Q3, http://www.google.com.hk/search?hl=...252.1707.0j10j2.12.0...0.0...1c.1.rfb882TLcA4
then 2012 Q3 Samsung bought the bluetooth division of CSR, of just the aptX division of CSR, well "mobile business" they call it, not the entire CSR anyway. http://www.google.com.hk/search?q=c...sugexp=chrome,mod=13&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I tested one of the aptX combinations,
phone is S3 HK, rom is still original 4.1 I think, virgin, no root.
headphone is Denon AH-W200.
music player is default from S3. EQ setting is flat, nothing else engaged.
Other settings unknown, it's not my phone, not intruding to borrowers privacy, didn't manage to check other software settings.
Wired sound is termed as "MIDDLE, or normal". We are not reviewing AH-W200, we are just comparing between aptX vs. wired, vs. normal BT.
listening test (subjective), wired versus BT (assuming aptX is default engaged, as says by CSR)
During BT (assuming aptX is engaged), the bass is overloaded, not yet full distortion, not even slight distortion, just a good 10dB more than wired.
mids and highs are nearly as good as wired. Some moments can hear high frequency loosing out, but most of the time, ??? 80% or 90% is nearly as good as wired, if I did a blind test, probably I would know, but some moments it's just obvious lost of highs like old BT in SBC mode.
Should have borrowed the AW-H100 as well which is all same supposingly, except without aptX.
Anyway,
BT SBC vs. BT aptX
Obvious difference, BT SBC lost of bass even to wired, lost of highs is significant. Midrange clarity suffer some, but unknown if not perform a immediate swap A B test.
BT SBC was from P1000, rom alroger's 4.1.2, xing player apk, DSP manager all flat, WM8994 in all default settings, direct DAC, Hi-Fi playback.
Headphone is AW-H200
Verdict = aptX has significant improvement over SBC, I'm a believer now, but am not satisfied with the +10dB bass boost. Was it Denon's engineer liked bass so much added a EQ setting when aptX engaged?
Who know????

I've confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi Mix supports both APTX and APTX HD. I'm running the 8.2.5.0 MAHMIDL global ROM without modification.
TL;DR
Equipment and software used:
Audio Technica ATH-DSR9BT Bluetooth headphones.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 256/6
Onkyo HF music player with pro unlock.
Laptop with Wireshark
Protocol:
Tap phone to headphones for NFC facilitated Bluetooth pairing with ATH-DSR9BT.
Verified pair by playing a FLAC file on phone and listened to playback on headphones.
Stopped music and turned off headphones.
From settings, developer options were activated by tapping the MIUI version (ROM build) several times.
Activated Bluetooth HCI Snoop log through:
Settings/Additional Settings/Developer Options/Bluetooth HCI Snoop Log (on)
Immediately turned the headphones back on, and played the same FLAC music file in Onkyo HF Player and listened to playback for about 8-10 seconds.
The ATH-DSR9BT headphones themselves feature status lights that indicate which CODEC is being used for playback. Indicator light 3 flashed purple every few seconds, which indicates that APTX HD is being used.
For absolute certainty, the HCI Snoop log from the phone was copied to a laptop and opened in WireShark for analysis. The Xiaomi Mi Mix and the ATH-DSR9BT negotiated a vendor CODEC (0x0024) where Qualcomm was the vendor. More specifically, the CODEC was verifiably set after it was exchanged in discovery as SEID audio sink 7. The CODEC was verifiably set via the set command recorded in the Snoop Log.
APTX was also offered, but wasn't selected as it is inferior to APTX HD.
In any case, that puts this question to bed. I suspect that this isn't an advertised feature because it may not have been officially implemented and could have been made available after release and after marketing material and specifications were already released.
Thanks, and get yourself some good headphones and enjoy Bluetooth audio on your Xiaomi Mix in high fidelity.
i quote a review detailled :
There’s also no aptX support here for high quality Bluetooth audio either, so Bluetooth headphone or car stereo users may want to look elsewhere for a higher quality wireless audio experience.

Hi,
I updated my P10 to Oreo yesterday and I have a big problem. Sound quality on Bluetooth headphones is veeeery low. I'm using Spotify (premium if that's matter). Anybody have this problem? Or maybe a solution.
That's gotta be disappointing! Sorry for your trouble. Do you know if your headphones have bluetooth aptx?
AFAIK, the p10 has bluetooth aptx (https://www.aptx.com/products/huawei-p10) which should result in decent sound quality when paired with aptx compatible bluetooth headphones and speakers. My own very subjective tests comparing my p10 plus vs my non-aptx tablet when paired with a Marshall Woburn speaker supports this claim but I'm still running nouget. I wonder if the aptx is still active in Oreo?
I tried to change a bluetooth codec in developer settings but it's not working so I guess my headphones supports only SBC codec :/
The issue seems to stem from audio Codecs resetting. I have similar troubles with the Mate 9 where the audio is terrible unless I go into the developer options WHILE music is playing and change the settings, then the quality gets better until either a song is paused or something else causes an interruption in the audio playback.
Seems it is a bug. It triggers itself back to SBC only no matter what headphones are connected. I have Phillips with AAC support and the worked fine before upgrade. AptX model I have is not working correctly too. So the only way now is to wait for the fix I think...
Thanks for following up to this thread, Syndirail and ylapas. Since I use bluetooth for music every day I won't be upgrading to Oreo until I know this issue is resolved.
Unexpected surprise - P10 with quite cheap Chinese QCY headphones just connected to high quality aptX audio and sounds great, while Phillips sounds like crap definitely Oreo bug in determining hardware capabilities.

Proof with QCY headphones connected.
My Sony headphone with LDAC is recognized and works very well.
Seems it can be a problem with headphones which does not have aptX / aptX HD or LDAC support, but have AAC. In Android 7 it worked well, in Android 8 it is for some reason limited to SBC only and never turned on, even if supported by the headphones.

You need to disconnect blutooth and reconnect, and then turn on your equipment..
My Sony UHP-H1 plays LDac to my Stereo and ht, my Xtz Divine headphones play aptX, and my Audio Pro T3 plays SBC, but it plays SBC from Spotify premium and all codes on Poweramp stunningly great...
SBC don't need to be poor with good signal, and good Dac and speakers...
I can't verify, can someone please do tests measure and verify. Huawei says no, you must buy mate10 or mate10 plus.
I try to get confirmation from Google Android but can't reach them.
I try to contact Sweden Google today.

I contacted my telephone company on phone.
They are on the case, waiting for confirmation on mail.
Could anyone confirm if other codecs except SBC work? (I've also found issues on the Mate9 forum)
My Sony MF-100x connect only on SBC and the sound quality is not that great (when compared with an iPhone, not sure if only the codec is to blame though .. )
From developer settings any chance is reverted as soon as the dialog closes.

Forgot Huawei confirmed that aptX on P10 is working.. still waiting for confirmation on LDac...
Yes, aptX is working on my P10 (Oreo). Tested with Sony MDR XB950B1. Anyone using MDR 1000x to confirm LDAC?
I have Sony UHP-H1 bluray with LDac...
But i dont have time to test now..
I have Jabra BT320S...Not so bad BUT, remains in low quality even after playing in DEV settings... But its not that awful,i can deal with that...will try in car
Edit1...
Ive tried different earphones on my jabra bt.. surprise...the ones offering best audio quality are the one i paid 1.99 $ at Dollarama...really cheap/crappy and unknown mark ...with original settings.
The sound with original Jabra JVC HA-EB75 really sucks...gets better if i push the speaker inside my brain through the ear hahahah
Edit 2..
just found in...you know, that third drawer that we put unused stuff.....some old Samsung from S2 and Woahh...Those im gonna keep :silly:

Yes, aptX working fine, just not AAC - all my not aptX equipment is pushed back to SBC only now, even if it supported AAC in version 7 and sounded great.
Hello All,
Just got this phone to replace my pixel 2 and the bluetooth connection to my wf-1000x is horrible.
when i connect to the P20 it stutters, skips and sometimes just disconnects on my few minutes walk to work.
Went back to the pixel and not such issue, completely rock solid connection.
Not only that, the headset connects to the pixel using AAC but won't go higher than SBC on the P20.
Is anyone else experiencing poor bluetooth performance and has anyone managed to get AAC working?
You sure you have them on "priority on sound quality" mode? That's what I needed on my Sony MDR-1000X to get anything other than SBC, which is pretty nasty I agree. I'm happily using LDAC and it's a completely different league in terms of sound quality.
Once I made the change it was showing LDAC in developers settings menu.

These are the truly wireless buds, there is no LDAC support but AAC should still be much better which is what works on the pixel 2.
Refuses to go on the p20 even if choosing it manually and yes it's set to sound quality
Have the same issue with the bose qc 35ii that came with the phone, emailed support and awaiting a reply. Seems stupid to have the option and not be able to use it.
Beoplay E8
I have the same problem with beoplay E8. Will also mail the support.
Got the same issue with the Bose headphones only using SBC, does not switch to AAC. Have the latest firmware on the headphones & firmware 120 on the P20 Pro. Bit annoying considering one was a pre-order for the other. My budget £40 set can switch between SBC & AptX!

I actually emailed Huawei regarding the AAC codec being broken. Apparently, the P20 Pro does not support AAC for Bluetooth. The technical specs on Huawei UK says "Bluetooth®: BT 4.2, aptX™, aptX™ HD, LDAC and HWA are supported"
But in developer mode, the AAC codec is there, but the setting wouldn't stay. I wonder whether there are any hacks that we can perform to install the codec.
LDAC . APTX , APTXHD ,... which is the best ???

Oh that's annoying, better sound is always welcome.
Hi Guys,
i am coming from an iPhone X and am now using a Note9. The Phone is absolutely great and i dont want to look back. Everything works fine, everything is really fluid just like it should be. But there is one annoying thing, that bothers me to hell: Bluetooth-Streaming Quality while Playing Music.
I am using several devices via Bluetooth: Bose Soundsport Free, Bose QC35II, Harman Kardon Go+Play and i am listening to Music in my Golf 7 via Bluetooth. Listening to music via the Bose Devices works really good. In the Developer Option, you can see that the Note 9 is using the AAC Codec, which the Bose do support. The Note 9 changes to AAC automatically.
When i am using the Harman Speaker and listening in my car, the Note 9 will stay at SBC (Standard Bluetooth Codec). This isnt really a problem for me, because the iPhone did it too. But the quality is worse on the Note 9 compared to the iPhone. On the Note 9, you can hear cracking noise in the Highs and the sound is overall not very good - the iPhone does this better with SBC (or stays with AAC even when the conneced device does not support it).
I had the same problem last year with my Oneplus 5. But with the OP5, i simply changed the Bluetooth Codec to always be APTX. This totally worked for me, even if the Bluetooth Device didnt support APTX. But on the Note 9, it will always change back to SBC, when i connect my Harman Speaker or my car.
I think it is just a bug. I didnt find a workaround. This is just a simple thing but it bothers me to hell... My mother's S9 does the same. It just doesnt save the setting.
The reason why i am making a thread is simple: Samsung does have a Samsung Members / Plus / Care (it depends where you are) App, where you can send in bugs, that you found.
Even if this bug doenst bother you, it would be very nice, if you can send in a request for changing this behaviour. That would help me (and maybe others), so that the Bluetooth Listening Experience will be as good as the Rest of the phone.
Thanks for the help.
If anyone knows a workaround for my problem - please let me know. At this stage, i cannot use my Harman Speaker und my Car Audio via Bluetooth.
the note 9 is an android device. So nothing is stopping you from 'fixing' it yourself. as you might not have realized yet, this is not a 'samsung' issue. you yourself said the onePlus also had the same issue.... its an issue of Android 8.
Anyways:
root and install the magisk module. If you are on a snapdragon device then are probably screwed. But sooner or later root or some other work around might arise...
good luck
It is definitly a Android Thing. But the fix for that Problem should be easy and is build into Android itself.
The Problem is, that Samsung does not save the codec, that i choose manually. The Oneplus 5 for example does save my setting. And with that Setting, all my Bluetooth Quality Issues would be solved.
So my goal for this thread is simple. It is difficult to motivate Samsung to Change this behaviour, if only one person needs that fix.
So it would be nice, if more people could report this behaviour to Samsung.
It autoswitches to the highest bluetooth codec the connected device negotiates that it can use. Very few autos connect to anything other than SBC. I have a different vehicle and do not experience any audio issues with the highs or lows using SBC. Your previous device was lying to you if you thought it was pushing AAC to a device that only accepts SBC.
Maybe try a different audio player and check the source file itself. I prefer "USB Audio player" because it doesn't alter flac/mp3/etc files and compress them further. Also check your dolby atmos settings.
Of course the phone does lie, if it does connect with APTX, even if the Speaker does support only SBC. But with that type of lying, it does work perfectly.
I am playing music via Spotify and the highest setting there.
In my car, i do have the upgraded Dynaudio System build in, and there i can hear the distortion.
With my Oneplus 5, i solved the problem by manually switching from SBC to APTX (even if my car does not Support APTX, it worked absolutely perfect)
That is the whole point... SBC on Android is not as good as on the iPhone. My iPhone X had no issues with my Harman Speaker, but my Note 9 and the Oneplus 5 do.. On the Oneplus i solved this by changing the Codec to Aptx.
I have a cheap Speaker (70 Euro) for my bathroom. This speaker does also connect via SBC, but doesnt have any problems with my Note. But this Speaker isnt nearly as good as the Harman Speaker or my car audio.
Do me a favor... Connect your SBC Speaker and play Still Got the Blues from Gary Moore.. It is really bad (the quality not the song).. The Bandwith is simply not enough with SBC.. but for some reason my iPhone X didnt had any Problems.. i think it just always used AAC even if the connected device didnt support it..

play an audio file via a player ie:
power amp. and see if there is also an issue.
might just be the streaming app you are using. it might be just streaming bad/low quality and BT codec is adapting to it.( check streaming app audio settings..)
think of it like trying to convert an 96kbbs mp3 to 320 kbps.
garbage in, garbage out. Except in this case android is simply not upmixing and using high quality codec because there is no need to because source is low.
in power amp audio options, there are advanced audio settings which can allow you to force certain audio qualities. So test a high quality audio file in that player and see if audio is good.
if it is then you know the streaming quality is simply not high enough... which is not suprising as it IS a stream... reason why i also never stream and taking advantage if the 512 gb version if the note 9. to me it is folly to expect high quality from streams.
The music i am playing is from spotify.. Locally saved onto the phone with the maxed out setting - this is 320Kbits. As is said, the Oneplus had no Problem with the same setting after i changed the Codec manually.
But just for the record, i just bought the Song "Still Got the Blues" in the FLAC-Format. I played it via Power AMP on my Harman Speaker - the result is absolutely the same as with Spotify. So the Music is not the Problem.

did you go to power amp settings and adjust/enable? ...on second picture, go there and press the setting sprocket...multiple settings to adjust.
also if you go to android dev options and set higher quality BT settings and codecs, do they stick when playing audio?
No, if i want to change the Setting while playing, nothing happens. The Note does not allow it while using a Bluetooth Device.
If tried it with ( Power Amp ). Nothing changed. Still bad Quality.
Hi All,
I also want to join in on this discussion, just that I want to use LDAC as I use Sony WI1000X bluetooth headset. I have the same issue of it not sticking to LDAC and reverting back to AptX. So far here is my experience:
- If the headset is not connected, changing to LDAC, exiting from and then retuning to Developers menu would result the codec changing back to AptX
- If the headset is connected then change the codec to LDAC, the codec sticks. But once it is disconnected, it will revert back to AptX
- While the headset is connected, I can switch between codecs in the Dev menu while listening to music and can notice the difference in audio quality
Yeah, would be great if codec of choice can stick or at least switch automatically either by detection or preset. LDAC is awesome and I'm so happy that I can enjoy the codec without using Sony phones (not that they are bad, I just prefer my Note 9).

Ok funny enough, as I post my message, I got curious about something. I went to bluetooth menu, click the gear icon on my paired Sony WI1000X, and there it is.... a slider to toggle the LDAC codec on/off.
It is greyed out, so I exit the menu, switched on my bluetooth, came back in that menu, switch LDAC on, checked Dev menu, it is also set to LDAC. Good.
Then I switched off my bluetooth, at this point the LDAC option in Dev menu should have reverted back to AptX.... but it stays in LDAC mode! This is great!
I guess my small inconvenience is now solved, maybe you can try the same for your AptX device.
Can anyone confirm whether AptX Adaptive is included or not (eg. from actually listening, it's still not listed in the Developer Options)? They have removed "Samsung HD" as a codec as well.
I have since my Galaxy S5 the Same Problem.
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S6
Galaxy S7
Galaxy Note 8
The Bluetooth quality is really a mess.
I do not have the Problem with my one plus 4. And also with any kind of iPhones
You can change this in basic Bluetooth settings
If your Bluetooth audio device supports codecs you should find the setting in your Bluetooth connection settings where you find the media audio and call audio settings under them there is the basic codec...
Found this on Reddit . Worked on my Sony wi 1000x
Solved it for note9
I had this problem with the amazing WF-1000XM3 and just couldn't get them to change to AAC.
So the solution was turning off the dual audio option in Bluetooth. I even tested this, and as soon as I turned on dual audio the codec switched back to sbc.
Settings>connections>Bluetooth>advanced>dual audio
And if it doesn't automatically switch over then, force it once through the developer options and it should stay like that thereafter.
I'm tossing my hat into the ring here, because this is maddening. I don't understand how we can all have 2-3 different user experiences on the same device.
OK, so, presumably, we're all on Andoid 9. Since the start of this thread, I imagine updates have played at least a minor role in user experience and menu options.
Here's where I'm at: I've never been able to successfully change AND have the settings found within Developer Options actually "stick". I can access "Bluetooth Audio Codec", and from there I can see SBC/AAC/aptX/LDAC/Scalable/All/Default as options. It does not matter which one I tap on, the result is the same: I can visibly confirm the change was made when selecting the codec I want and the screen goes back to the main Dev Options menu. If I hit the back button, and go right back into Dev Options, it has auto-reverted back to SBC. This is, of course, with no active BT devices connected for audio.
I recently traded in a car which did not support Android Auto, and therefore my only option was BT for audio streaming. When using this, the quality was fine, even subjectively good. However, now I've got a car whose stereo supports Android Auto, but only via USB (not BT). I can confirm that, via the display on the head unit of the infotainment system, it is using (or attempting to use) A2DP for streaming, which would indicate my phone should be using aptX or similar. Even so, the audio quality is absolute ****. If I connect my USB cable, and resume audio via Android Auto, the quality vastly improves. There is no reason why my phone or the BT connection would or should be operating under SBC or any kind of inferior BT codec when streaming. Mind you, all of this is done using the same player: PowerAmp Pro.
TL;DR - Has anyone found a way to forcibly allow all codecs, so that the highest quality codec is used on a per-device basis?
Just the same problem
Yes i have exactlly the same problem
Please Samsung...FIX THIS!!

I have tried what KASHY27 said in his post and works perfectly!
Turn off dual audio in bluetooth settings and then click aptx in developers options
Thanks KASHY27!!

Hi Guys,
i am coming from an iPhone X and am now using a Note9.
At this stage, i cannot use my Harman Speaker und my Car Audio via Bluetooth.

im using sony xm4 and samsung note 9. note9 keeps going back to bt aac codec. i was able to make it stay to ldac by setting [connecting 2 devices = off] in sony headphone app under system. it was noted in the app that ldac can not be used when this setting is enabled.
2022 and this is still not fixed. A shame android.
