Bluetooth audio delay - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello, I have been intensively googling for the past 2 days but couldn't find any permanent solution to my problem, which is bluetooth audio delay. I own Bose Soundsport Wireless headphones and I have never had a problem with them when it comes to audio delay. I just bought a new P30 pro and while watching videos on youtube or in any video player I get noticeable audio delay. I found people complaining about this issue with other Huawei devices as well. The only solution I found is temporary - in developer settings changing the bluetooth codec from aac to sbc. Sadly, this settings gets reset every time the headphones are connected. For a premium device like p30 pro I would expect much more polished experience. Does anyone know how to solve this?

No delay on youtube after update .178 here.
Dont know what may be your problem.

I don't know either. I am on 185 I received through OTA. Hopefully I won't have to do a factory reset.
Are you on wifi while connected to bluetooth earphones?

Ok, realuzed it's probably related to Dolby Atmos. Turned off fixes the problem. For now.
Edit: Okay, it seems unrelated to Dolby Atmos. Sadly, it's back and I can't figure out why. Strange thing is that it only happens on this phone. I don't have any problems with my old LG G6.
I use my LG for hotspotting currently. While watching a movie broadcasted from Huawei on a TV connected to the same hotspot, there is no delwy whatsoever. I would assume there would be a delay considering the data transfer: From LG to Huawei back to the LG and to the TV. I am wondering if this would be solved by a factory reset. I have already cleared cache and it didn't help.

All Mate 10 Pro have Crippled Bluetooth

I have noticed this is a widespread issue and I've decided to raise it. This needs to be fixed and Huawei should stop ignoring this problem. The Bluetooth is basically crippled and locked to SBC. I've tested multiple devices and all exhibited this behaviour. Why is it ignored? Are all the reviews fake?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-sifkojUqw
i read that Bluetooth options in pixel dont stick too. so it must be some wierd oreo crap. you cant even change gpu renderer. it always defaults back. best way to handle that is to chat with huawei support and check it out.
I don't use Bluetooth very much but it appears to be the same for the regular Mate 10 as well. I'm currently using my virtual desktop so I could not test if after changing the setting in developer mode does it stick after a reboot?
this confusion is due to a lack of follow-through. all oreo devices have this "issue". it's not an issue at all. if a connected bluetooth device supports these codecs, the best one will automatically be selected. it is not limited to huawei devices. this is normal and does not affect functionality. you should take down this thread so no one throws any fits for no reason.
Well mine switches to aptX automatically when I connect to aptX-compatible devices. However you are correct that I cannot manually change it in developer settings.
Further testing has shown this issue not to be an issue, I've managed to successfully connect to an APTX device and the codec was selected. Video removed. Apologies for this confusion.

Doesn't matter, it will still randomly switch to loudspeaker and the quality will still be terrible.

I don't have any issues regarding Bluetooth for now, haven't really tested aptx I think, but it worked fine otherwise. And never switched to loudspeaker or so

It's not crippled, it's buggy.
SBC and aptX have high noise floor and specially on SBC, it causes some deformations to the Audio.
AAC is totally broken.

Good for you, people here all have Bluetooth problems:

I have no issues with my Bluetooth headphones, the Sony WH-1000NX2
The highest quality of transmission is selected automatically, LDAC, that's 990 kbit/s
It's the best Bluetooth can do in the Audio section.
The Sony headphone App confirms the LDAC connection
i am trying my friend's MDR 1000x. i tried both SBC and LDAC. Now I can't go back to LDAC. Help please
Aac not working on p20 pro, works fine on the pixel 2
Bull****.
AAC No longer works on my head unit and my Bose QC35 Headphones.
It worked perfectly before 8.0.0.128 update.
Factory Reset does not work, nothing works. It refuses to use anything else than ****ty SBC.

they are reporting issues with many devices on that forum. android has always had some issues with bluetooth. huawei is no exception. my samsung and sony devices were the best by far. i think it's because of improvements that they make to the android system.
Anyone on b142? Can you comment on if the Bluetooth audio quality is better?
Can anyone confirm if b142 solved sbc problem? I think aac is stilo broken, but sbc quality?

Solved.
I don't have a clue what you guys talking about with all those 3 and 4 letter/digit combinations of names but i feel I've gotta share i use Bluetooth all day long for different kinds of profiles and i mean all day long, and to say this doesn't fail nearly as much as nougat did would mean i imply it does fail to a certain, however small, degree, which isn't even close to being the case, so... But i do notice the in band ringing settings don't stick just like they don't stick in my Oreo S5...
I've had Android phones since 2012 and the Huawei mate 10 pro is the only one with Bluetooth issues. Constantly dropping parts of songs when connected to my mazda 6. Infuriating to say the least. The most expensive phone I've ever had....

Howdy,
Anyone else experiencing stuttering while streaming audio over Bluetooth?
Started happening after the 9.0.0.168 update.
I'm located in Australia if that makes any difference.
Tried a bunch of different devices using different codecs (aac, SBC, aptx, etc). I've also tried factory resetting, and different streaming apps (Spotify, apple music, tidal, etc).
Literally the only thing that works is reverting back to EMUI 8.1.
Yes! It is annoying!
No clue on how to o fix it yet....

What is your car?
This doesn't seem to be limited to the P20 Pro. I can confirm the issue on the Mate 10 Pro after the EMUI9 (European) upgrade. Bluetooth worked flawlessly before, even under heavy load (Google Maps navigation and Torque Pro in split screen mode, Spotify in background) with two bluetooth devices (Torque adapter and JVC car radio) connected.
Since the update I am experiencing intermittent stutter with any bluetooth audio device. As soon as I connect the Torque adapter (bluetooth serial protocol) the stutter on the audio output becomes unbearable. I get about 10 seconds of clear sound, then 5-8 seconds of stutter. Re-pairing didn't help.

I've tried several Bluetooth devices, ranging far and wide and with a large variety of different codecs being used. Re-pairing doesn't help, factory resetting doesn't help. I suspect it's a driver related issue.

Yeah, WiFi is never enabled while I'm driving. My dash cam gives off a WiFi connection with no Internet access.
I did read that fixed a similar issue on an other Huawei device, thanks for the tip.
got updated to Pie last night, and I listened to Spotify on my way to work this morning. I noticed the audio is interrupted (for about half a second) two or three times within 45 mins. I thought it is just the Spotify streaming issue. Hmm .. maybe it is this issue.

You can try other apps。You can see whether it's the problem of Bluetooth headset or the problem of App.
It only appears to be LDAC in my case (when using my Sony WH-1000XM3's). If I drop the codec down, the aborations don't manifest for me. Turning the screen on by way of power button makes the audio cut out for 100ms or less, but seems to indicate it's processor load that's causing it (across any audio app, like Spotify, Tidal, PocketCasts, YouTube).
Using anything lower than LDAC seems to be fine for me though (like when I'm using my Samsung Gear IconX 2018's).
I only updated to EMUI 9 on my P20 Pro yesterday and identified this issue within 5 minutes, so it doesn't bode well for Huawei's testing.

So, after having contacted Huawei, they initially advised me to wipe the cache partition however this didn't address the issue. They then apologetically recommended a full reset. Having now done this the Bluetooth audio issues I was experiencing appear to have been resolved.
Whether they'll return with use of the phone I have no idea, but LDAC and all other codes are working brilliantly now.
Hope that helps anyone having the same probs.
I have exactly same Issue, doesn't matter aptx ldac SBC, with some devices works fine with others horrible... It's a lot of work to reset to factory settings and reinstall all the apps and settings though
Any one know if there's a fix for this yet?
I've tried wiping the device and still has issues.
I have same issue w p20 pro EMUI 10.0.0.161 CLT-L29 model. Has earlier p20 pro china version L100? And no issues.
I'm using BT Shure SE846 and they are studdering. App notwithstanding. My cheap car BT radio jig works flawlessly. Huawei said I need to change mb. (For $150 since out of warranty)

Audio quality drop on bluetooth

Hi everyone
Little bit lost on this and not sure if it's just me but hoping someone can help or point me somewhere. I have a s10+ UK edition. And a Samsung galaxy watch.
When I connect the phone to the car the audio is low quality and hisses a lot. When I put the watch into plane mode. Cutting it off from the phone. All is normal.
Have never seen this happen before. Any ideas?
Thanks
So you have bluetooth connected to the watch and car at the same time?
If so, my guess would be a setting in the watch for the volume of music. Or in the phone, go to settings / bluetooth / advanced / dual audio. Select it and play with the settings to setup what to do when two bluetooth audio devices are connected

Had the same problem with my cheap external bluetooth to FM adapter.
Turn on Developer Options and adjust the bluetooth profile while connected to your car audio.
Having Dolby Audio set to auto might also have an impact.
Thanks for the advice but no luck so far.
The settings under developers let me change when nothing is connected but they revert back to sbc soon as I leave the menu. And they are locked out when connected.
Also dual audio does nothing.
It only has the issue when the watch is connected.
As if its taking the bandwidth.
@ninjatiger26
@theanykey asked you to change the AVRCP version.
You can only change the audio codec from the default one (SBC) to something like aptX if your receiver supports it. And yes, you can not change the codec on the fly while playing.

Apologies for the delay, has been a mad few days!
Sadly changing the AVRCP didnt help on all versions.
It seems there maybe a weird one however on the codec. It reverts to SBC which from a bit of muddled googling is all my receiver supports. from non iPhone devices. However, it takes AAC if its a iphone.
Seems odd to me however they would limit it. Like i said this is from googling so maybe incorrect.
the stranger part is however i paired up a Oneplus 6 and the watch all was fine on SBC codec. its just watch and the s10+ it has an issue.
Admit very lost on this one.
I'm having the exact same issue. I've got an S10 Plus and a Galaxy Watch Active (both in the brazilian versions), and there is a noticeable crackling and loss of quality when I play music on my car stereo while the phone is connected both to the car and the watch. If I put the watch in airplane mode, the issue is gone.
Also, it only seems to happen with my car. I've tried to replicate the issue with my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones and an Anker bluetooth speaker, but with those devices there is no noticeable loss of audio quality.
I've tried resetting bluetooth setting, messing with the codecs in developer options and pairing both devices again multiple times.
Anyone got any ideas?

Why not Google it?maybe you will get a solution for this problem.
Same issue here on my s10+. When playing any audio in my car via BT i hear the distortion/hissing noise especially when the song has a higher treble frequency.
I have just about tried all fixes i could find on Google, and no luck.
When connecting to my ear buds (Jabra Elite 65t) it disappears and checked in developer mode that it supports to AAC for BT Codecs.
But when connecting to the car it reverts to SBC.
The issue clearly lies on Samsungs side, as my brother has a Huawei p30 Pro, also has bluetooth 5 and plays amazingly well in all aspects (Bass-Mids-Treble).
I know I'm posting this almost a year later, but i am desperately looking for a fix.
SN. I have recently updated my phone to Android 10, despite all the complaints to Samsung from many users... Sadly this issue has not beeing fixed on my side.
Does any of you still have the same issue?
I have the same issue with S9(android 10 ui2)
- no dou audio diable option
- bluetooth conected only to my earphones, with no car.
I’ve been a Samsung phone user since the S5 and this issue persists across all their phones since at least that one. The only real solution is to avoid the SBC codec or turn off your watch while listening to music. It will never be patched as it’s been going on for over 6 years. In the early days Galaxy phones only really used SBC so you couldn’t avoid it.
APT-X and AAC are your best options. Good luck finding those on a car system. You can easily find headphones that support them.

YouTube stutters while using bluetooth audio

Hi,
I'm currently using my P30 Pro and it seems that there's no way to watch a youtube clip without stuttering. My colleague has got the same problem on his phone.
When using my Bose Soundsport Free , YouTube keeps lagging (only the picture, not the sound). I already tried to reset my phone, delete all data of the app, and changed the codec.
The problem also appears when connecting to my car (youtube stutters). Please note : that was only for testing.
The bose Soundsport free did work without any problems on my Galaxy S9+. I'm also using the newest update.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks

I think there was a similar issue with instagram also on the previous build. Are you sure you are on the latest build ?
I updated a few days after the release of the phone to EMU 9.1.0.124.
My colleague's phone was using the previous one.
I'm having same problem with Bluetooth audio streaming, I'm on latest firmware...
Huawei phones are (in)famous for aggressive battery management.
I had the music stuttering issue with MX Player on P20 Pro & it only went away if I suspended power management for the MX Player app.
I have had issues with Bluetooth stuttering as well, on Samsung, Skullcandy & other noname knockoffs, but only in public transport where tons of other bluetooth devices are live in close vicinity.
However, on he recent software version on the P20 Pro & now the P30 Pro, I'm seeing the stutters less & less.
Not a solution for your issue, just my observations.
YMMV
This is happening on my p20 recently and it's super aggravating. It will work if I shut the screen of but if Im trying to watch a video I'm pretty much SOL
Hi I found the solution! Go in developer settings and change your Bluetooth code from AAC to SBS. AAC seems to be cpu intensive, therefore causes choppy video. Good luck!
For those facing this issue on Android TV youtube app, using bluetooth headsets, go to settings -- Device Preferences -- Sound -- Under Digital Audio Format, select Auto...restart.
This solved my issue

Bluetooth audio sync issue

Hi I've noticed some lag between my Bluetooth speaker and the video when trying to watch YouTube or Netflix. Kodi has the option to adjust the audio offset so that's not a problem but I can't seem to find anything like that for the other apps. Is there any fix for this?
Upgraded from a nexus 5x which never had this issue.
On Koodo in Ontario if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I just got my P20 Pro and also having this issue. Very annoying. Had a Mate 9 and never experienced this kind of issues before.
Do you found a fix yet?
