Hello guys,
After I updated to 9.1,i noticed a weird behavior in the notification bar.
Before the update, when I had email notifications I had two options, to either click on the top right arrow of the email banner and expand the emails (some of them only shown) in the drop down notification menu, or to click directly on the banner and afterwards I was redirected in the email app, showing the inbox list.
After the update, if I click on the Gmail banner, it only expands the emails, regardless of I click on the arrow or wherever, but I have to select a particular email in order to be redirected to the Gmail app;after that it takes me straight to this particular email and not to the email list of the app, whereas before it was taking me to the email list.
I take it that this is either a bug, or a change of function.
The question is, is there any way to change the function? I am using my work email in which I receive maybe 600-1000emails per day and it is a PITA to get in a random email first and then to have to go back in order to see the email list..
Any ideas? Am I missing something?
P. S: of course this behaviour is not only in the Gmail app, but in all apps with multiple notifications
Cheers
T

Maybe it is a new function since some people complained about not being able to expand notifications
Same here!
And it's really annoying...
Looking for a way to get it back

I have no idea really. I was using this function maybe 50 times per day and now I have to bother going straight to the app, Gmail notifications are now useless to me given that I receive more than 600 emails per day, so the 3-4 expanded emails are pointless if I then have to go back, then go to the second home screen, then click again the app, to go to the same point I was with only one click before the update.. Maybe try one of the many email apps that might work for your specific needs? Gmail app is fine for average users not power users with so many emails.
Things change and our Huawei device is meant for consumers.
Good luck!

But it is not only the email app thingy, this is a change in the function of the notifications as a whole, it is just more of a pita with my email because I am checking it all the time..
Regerdless of the app, all the notifications now only expand and do not redirect you to the native app, but only to a particular notification. It is just stupid, they changed they way the notifications have been since android implemented more than a single notification for the apps. The primary function should be to take you in the app itself.. [emoji23]

Hmm I wasn't able to check that function yet but I do see a option in the Gmail app that only allows the one initial notification. Inbox notifications >> notify only once. Maybe that would work for you.

Thanks for the input mate. However as I said, this is not a Gmail issue per se, but a general change in function of the notifications, regardless of the app.
In order to elaborate, let's say that you have WhatsApp notification in the bar (more than one single msg).. When you click on the notification it just expands, you cannot be redirected in the app, you can only click on one of the notifications and go straight into this particular msg.
Same applies to FB, to play store updates, to whatever app.
Let's hope that they will change this in the next updates.

I am sure it is a Huawei thing, since the last update retained the same android version and just upgraded the Emui ver..

Unfortunately the problem persists, even after. 328 update.
I really wish that we could somehow change the function. It is really pita to have to either go directly to one of the msgs in the notification, or to have to go back and then enter the app from the app menu of homescreen. Totally counterintuitive.

yeah, working for a bit, then not working for me now.
I receive the push notifications right away with no problem. However, within 30-60 seconds or so they disappear.
They're still new/unread if I open the app.
I've verified this happens even if I turn off all other browsers/devices that might be connected.
I've verified this happens to a family member and a friend with an Epic 4G and an Evo 4G in addition to my NS4G and TF101.
Yeah, pretty slow.
but they work.
Mine work sometimes, but are really late. Other times, they just don't come through at all until I open the app itself. The push notification implementation is pretty useless overall in my experience unfortunately.
I have the same issue.

oh i thought they meant the email setting or sms settings through the site itself. i have all of those turned off.
Google+ IS in it's beta still for a reason...
Seems to me, if someone comments on something I post, I get the notification immediately. I also get notified immediately if someone tags me in a post or picture. The slow notifications seem to happen when someone is commenting on something I've commented on. Anyone else having this experience?

i thought that worked separately from the app like for non smart phones. i dont have any of that set up on the desktop and i just use the app on my phone and i get everything in just a few minutes.
i think people sometimes expect to much from "push" as far as speed goes. you have to keep in mind youre not the only one on the system and network traffic can slow things up. if your "push" notification comes in 10 mins or less then whats the big deal? in other words you want true instant push go blackberry, seems like they perfected it, otherwise i think however it works it works.

If you're meaning Samsung's own email app (looks like an envelope with an @ over the front), then it should get a badge by default, IF you setup the software.
I actually don't know of a way to turn that off, outside of just not having it auto sync, so the only time the software deals with emails is when you manually check it, while the software is open. In which case you'd never actually see a badge.
If your talking about the GMAIL app... I don't 'think' it gets a badge by default. I could be wrong... I actually find the stock samsung email app a bit better than gmail, cause you can create/edit folders, and the signature options are far greater. AND the fact they finally added push notifications to it (which was the main reason I used the gmail app in the first place).
Yes its the Samsung mail app I currently have Gmail and yahoo synced to it bit do not get any badges ....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
@Ragnarkov is correct. The stock mail app will show badges if you set up an account with it. The Gmail app does not unless you use a 3rd party launcher like Nova.
Lol that's the problem both of my note 3 doesn't show the badges like the message app does
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Are you running the stock TW ui? Or an aftermarket UI like Nova or Apex?
The only other thing I could suggest is do a factory reset, and if your still having the issue, take it and get a replacement. If after a reset, on stock TW UI, its not showing the badge, who knows what else software-wise could be screwing up in the device?
I know for a fact it SHOULD be working, and on mine it does. Sounds like some software glitch to me.
Hope you figure it out soon though!
My gmail deliveries show up on the stock email badge. Love how the email app here allows combining the inboxes of both.

I want it to only go off once, then stay silent for each additional email I get. This is the first phone I've had do this, my N5 only notifies me once, and each email after that if I don't check them doesn't play the notification sound.
I figured you meant something more complex than no notifications at all. I don't understand why you want to be notified of only one Gmail per day...... What's the point of being notified at all if it's only for one email? Is it a email from a certain sender that usually comes before the rest? I'm just curious.

Not per day, if i get an email and don't check it, every time an email comes in after that it plays the notification sound every time. Like I get multiple emails in a row from XDA subscriptions, I don't want it to play the sound every time. Gmail has the option to notify once or for every email, I have it set as only once, but that doesn't work. That kind of explain it better?
It will notify once for that original email if you get another email from another person or a second post was made on Xda it will send another email and you will be notified again but for that email not the original one you got that you still didn't check. That is simply how it works

That's not how it worked on multiple Motorola phones before this one, my GNex, or my N5. Only this phone. I've been using Android for over 2 years since Gingerbread all the way to Kit Kat and never had this happen on any other phone. I'm just trying to figure out what it is about this phone that is causing it.

There is an email app, but I can't figure out how to make it do anything. No mail shows up there from any of my mail accounts and there is no configuration either on the watch or in gear manager. Maybe a forthcoming gear manager is required.
It does seem Sammy is doing precious little to its keep up with the Jones' or maybe they're holding back pending a transition to Tizen.

This update did add some cool new features.
You can now specify what swipe up and down does on watch via 'Application Shortcuts' in Gear manager under 'My Apps'.
Also, Contacts and Logs are now just like other apps, you can make them favorites or not and you can adjust what order they appear in. Good changes from what I can see.
Finally, the 'Emails' app lets you read full emails for any new emails that come in (from the stock email app). You can also delete them via the menu when viewing them.

When you increase the backlight beyond level 5, there will be an 'outdoor mode' which will maximum the backlight and return to level 4 after screen off 5mins.
Also, in motion settings, you can choose wake up gesture to be "clock" or "last viewed screen"
I hope they are new features.
Bah... Update wont install on mine.. gets to 27% and I get the dead Android and it goes back to the homescreen..
Also when reviewing notifications if you tap and old say gmail or messages. Remove from list will come up. You select yes this is a delete all for that group.
Edit 2:
Weird - after awhile I started being able to read bits of email messages in the notifications area, so that (below) is solved.
I also noticed that you can drag and move icons in the "big icons" view. Long press on any big icon, and when the others appear to left and right you can drag to reorder them.
Old edit: I can read the messages from the "Email" application, but that means I now have to go to that App instead of just tapping from "Notifications" so overall it takes away the convenience of using a smartwatch to begin with. If I have to jump through hoops to see a message, I might as well just pull the phone out.
Just got the update this weekend. Totally borks exchange email if security is set on you work email. Now I can't quickly check my emails on my wrist. Really sucks, so now I have to figure out how to revert back. Does anyone know if you can do that through kies?

My company has heightened IT security and I have been unable to connect to my exchange account without installing MDM software and using TouchDown (which I hate). I gave CloudMagic a try and not only did it connect to my exchange account, the CloudMagic notifications come through on my gear with the same amount of message content I had with the stock email app. I have the UK version of the ROM installed so I can't confirm it works with the US update, but it might be worth a try.

It's not really possible. Apps have the option to request that their notifications are given priority and placed at the top of the list. For example, the assumption is that you always want a WhatsApp message to be near the top, same with Google maps or Waze, even if they have been running for days.
So essentially the OS sorts these by priority and then order received.

You can disable any notification. If you have already read a notification then you can clear it. By doing these things you can make sure the ones you want automatically bubble to the top.
