Hi I bought a Xiaomi Mi9 not even a month ago.
These days I found a really annoying problem, my Mi9 unlocks itself in my pocket. I state that I have done all the possible tests, that is with and without double tap, with and without unlocking via mi band4, with and without lifting option, password, fingerprint and face detection. Trying various combos (thinking that maybe some of them would conflict with each other) I arrive at the same conclusion. Start the emergency keypad on your own, or if I receive notifications it even opens me up or I find myself navigating through my apps.
This is the main problem.
I have found other problem, like if I talk at the phone, I put the auricle in the right ear, everything is ok, while if I move it in the left ear I no longer feel anything. (proximity sensor
defective ultrasonic?)
Another problem that perhaps seems to have solved was that of bluetooth devices, the saved devices menu was missing. With a reset I fixed the problem at the time.
The fingerprint detector every 10 attempts, 3-4 never go through if the screen is in total standby, while if you wake up the screen in any way and then use the fingerprint it always works.
The most important thing I would like to solve is that of unlocking in my pocket, it particularly bothers me. I read that in June they had to fix this option, optimize it, but apparently it doesn't seem improved. I know that here the pocket mode is automatically inserted compared to other devices. But apparently it doesn't work at all.
I have the device correctly updated.
Help me discover something more or at least solve this problem and sorry for my bad english i'm italian boy =P

Hi
Which firmware, rooted or unrooted?
I can recommend to root and use firmware of xiaomi.eu
If you have the latest firmware with pocket mode included your only two options to fix the pocket unlocking’s are: 1. Get at flip cover. 2. Delete all fingerprints and use another unlock option like face recognition or so. This will also get you noticeably better battery hours.
The speaker problem I think is a problem with the position. It is very critical that you put the tiny speaker hole exactly in front of your ear opening, a couple of millimetres aside will make the sound almost silent. This is if you by feel mean hear. Try to hold the phone at an angle out from you face with the upper part pointing to your ear and move the phone up and down to se if you can hear better.

Let me suggest a fix for the fingerprint issue.
Turn off the show "fingerprint on lockscreen option"
There really isn't a pocket mode for the mi9 because of the in-display fingerprint reader
About the "unlocking in your pocket" issue, I think you should try a different unlocked method, maybe a password to see if it's still there, and also ensure you don't have "On body detection" enabled in settings.
where did you buy it?

Had my S8 plus for about a month now. Every 2-3 days or so, the fingerprint sensor stops working just randomly. Will work perfectly, then just out of nowhere, doesn't respond to anything. Disabling fingerprint security and re-enabling doesn't fix it. Trying to go into applications- system apps- fingerprints, and trying to force close it won't work as it's grayed out. The only thing that works to get it working again is a restart. Not the end of the world I know, but having to restart it at the most inopportune times is kind of annoying. And paying this much for what amounts to the top of the line phone on the market right now, and having one the most important functions just stop working all the time is crap. And no I don't want to use the iris scanner, or pin, or pattern security. I want to use the fingerprint sensor.
Searches around the web indicate this is pretty common. Anyone else on the VZW S8 or plus having this issue? Anyone know if a fix is coming down the pipeline? I'm pretty sure this would be a software issue as it works 85% of the time and a simple restart gets it working again.

Some other threads on XDA have said that disabling fingerprint scanner gestures fixes it. I haven't ever used those and I have never had a problem with the sensor. It isn't as good as the sensor on my Moto Z Force Droid was, but it is pretty good.

Yeah, I disabled that last night. Waiting to see if that works or not. Just thought I would post in the Verizon specific forum to see if any other Verizon users are having this issue. Pretty sure it's a software issue, and am just curious about differences between the Verizon software and other carrier specific software.
Always had the gestures disabled and I have noticed this, but it always goes away with time for me. I thought it was just because I was sweaty at the gym, but it doesn't even know that I am attempting to use the scanner. Then, it happened outside the gym. Goes away in just a couple minutes, thought it was just me.
It seems that the fingerprint scanner is more reliable when the screen is off than it is when the lockscreen is on looking for iris scan.
I've had my Note9 (Tmo) since release, so about 2 weeks now. Usually a quick tap of my finger on the fingerprint scanner and the phone immediately jumps to life and I'm on the home screen. But today it's acting erratically. Now it takes like 5 or 6 presses for it to register, and that's only after I turn the phone on first (it won't skip sleep and go directly to the home screen anymore).
I tried a rebooting, recreating my prints, as well as making sure the scanner is wiped perfectly clean, and that worked... But only for a little while, the issue has come right back.
Anyone else seeing similar issues?
Do other sensors work as expected?
On my previous Note8, when sensors stop working due to hardware fault, the fingerprints also did not work.
BTW I have not experienced the same issue on my Note9 yet.
Are you using a theme? If so that could be the issue. Uninstall theme and try fingerprint again.
Wash your hands.
I also have this issue, it's pretty annoying. On the lockscreen, the phone says "fingerprint-sensor not responding, try again later", and that's it. Tried wiping cache from the recovery menu, nothing.
Try typing *#0*# into the dialer and go to sensors test, should be able to determine if your finger print reader is faulty or not there.
Try cleaning the fingerprint scanner or using a wet wipe on your finger. As the lack of moisture is probably what is causing this issue. It happened to me a few times in HK.
I have the same issue.
My scanner is now telling my "fingerprint wet." But my fingers aren't wet, and I wiped the scanner down several times. Like the OP says, it works for 1 or 2 swipes, then won't recognize my fingerprint.
I'm having the same issue with my Note9. In my case, the problem happens ONLY if I had my phone in my pocket more than 1 minute, the fingerprint sensor just won't work, it's not like it doesn't recognize it, it's dead. I have to wait about 10 seconds putting my finger on the sensor 'til it works. I have tried everything. I'm pretty sure it's something in the software related to the phone being in my pocket (not because the phone's been idle), because when I go to bed and put my phone on the table, the next morning I just grab my phone and immediately the fingerprint sensor takes me to my home screen, no problem.

Do you guys have solution to this I been having this issue for a month or so now and i think it is getting worse.
Hi guys, be brave and call Samsung. The phone is under warranty.
They will collect it and drop it off for free, after repairing it and putting your phone back to water and dust resistant.
It took me about 10 days all together, if not less.

I've had samsung repair experienced before my Galaxy s8+ it took them about 5 business days turn around repair it was just software issue.. But with this fingerprint if it's just software glitch or setting i rather do that first but if not I might have do warranty claim.. it always take 2-3 tap for me to work on the fingerprint this is way way slower than my S9+.. Did you have fingerprint issue?
It is definitely not software. Days i have spent uninstalling apps and themes and testing and then resettimg it all and so on and so forth!
It seemed at the beginning that a factory reset is enough, but next day it would start again.
It finally gave up and i have called Samsung, as i do not buy insurrance for my phones and they sorted me out.
I knew it was not software when i have booted the Note into safe mode and it behaved just the same.

Sorry, forgot to quote you in my reply above.
Anyway, now after the repair, the Note responds diferently, it unlocks fast as hell using the fingerprint.
Try erasing all your fingerprints and re-registering them all over again. As sometimes your fingerprint settings maybe corrupted by a OS update.

Mine isn't like that. Fingerprint sensor works once the device is already in use but once in sleep mode for awhile it will take 2-3 taps for it to unlock and it doesnt happen all the time so My issue is sensor sensitivity and it seems to me that the sensor is not getting any power once in sleep mode to save battery that's why it is less sensitive that's just my opinion. But I already made a ticket to samsung and unfortunately the repair center which I dont trust at all the uBreakifix do not have the sensor in stock. So I may have to call in to ship out my phone.

The test shows RESET: Failed. Everything else is a PASS. It must be a hardware problem. I am getting random reboots while on standby when the fingerprint sensor is turned on.
After just having received the Android Pie 9.0 update yesterday, I still have the same issues as since I bought this phone:
Being that after a restart the phone is unusable, as it starts doing whatever it wants, as if there were shadow presses and swipes on the display.
These totally random, involuntary movements, as if I were touching the screen, even though I don't. Those occur so fast that I can only stop it (for a limited time) by pressing the power button (turning off the display and all actions), are totally not something I have ever experienced on another phone before, not even with OnePlus.
I took my case off just in case this would cause pressure on the phone, but it still happens without the case. I propped the phone up so that I definitely don't touch or cover any sensors, but it still happens.
It seems some internal sensor is broken, as this issue still persists after updating to Android 9.0. Unless this might be related to the Nova launcher?
Unfortunately I don't see a way of recording this issue without compromising my personal information, so I can only describe it.
I hope I can resolve this through a device swap through my carrier, but I doubt it. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

No, there is no necessity for this.
In the fact issue occurs also in Safe Mode as well as after cleaning the system cache (wiped through the menu which is available for soft reset / wiping all data).
The issue got only more and more severe this week and sometimes temporarily froze the screen / inputs and did lead to error messages on the camera app, making it impossible to take photos temporarily.
Huawei referred me to a local repair shop and I will hand in the phone for repair by early next week, once I have organised a replacement phone.

Good luck!
Hi, I have this problem with the fingerprint reader under display of my xiaomi mi 9.
When it is resting on a surface I cannot unlock it with the fingerprint, I find this very annoying especially when I am at work and the phone is resting on the desk and I would like to unlock it, or when it is on the bedside table. The only way that allows me to unlock it with the sensor under the display is to take it in hand and unlock it.
I did several tests and I noticed that it is enough to touch the metal frame with a finger to allow the phone to unlock with the fingerprint reader. Alternatively, just have the USB cable inside the door.
If it is on a surface (for example a table or a desk) it does not allow me to record the imprint because it does not even detect the finger.
I don't understand if it is a thing wanted by xiaomi or it is a problem?
I leave below a video where I show what I said.
https://youtu.be/WRYgob9KETE
After Global Beta 9.5.9 Update
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79507139&postcount=26
https://youtu.be/Ve6eCVPhcY0
That is really weird
I have the same problem. It is quite weird that sometimes the fingerprint is working ok, sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially when on flat surface like in your example. I think it is working better for me now, after having erased and registered fingerprints again. Also, I feel that slightly "rolling" your finger on the fingerprint is working most of the time (for example put the left side of your fingerprint on the sensor then roll it to the right side, it should work better). I am on latest Xiaomi eu rom (9.5.1) and it seems a bit better too (or maybe I just get used to it!).
My FP is good, doesn't have the problem like you said. On flat surface or anything, it's working. I'm using Xiaomi.EU Dev 9.5.1
Try to add same finger multiple times like fingerprint 1, 2 3 and 4. That's what I did and it is now better.
I'm on the last Global Beta (9.4.26) and before last EEA but the problem persist. I tried to record several times but without success. When the phone is resting on a surface it does not work. If it's in my hand it almost always works perfectly.
I can try to install the .eu and see if there are improvements.
I have the same issue on lastest EEA update. When the phone is on flat surface, the sensor barely recognizes my finger input. Im pretty sure that was working fine before the last update.
I hope this is a problem that can be solved via software with a future update. The point is that some have the same problem as me, while others work perfectly in any situation. So it is difficult to understand what is wrong.
I have the same issue. It almost never work unlocking in flat surface. The only way is to press the sensor really hard with force, then it will unlock. I have similar case in redmi 3x, the screen dramatically lose sensitivity in flat surface. I dont know what causes. Maybe it is related to electrical grounding.
Can anyone make a thread in miui bug report forum? I will support it..

Yes Mi Forum is read-only since today, they want you to use Mi Community instead, but looks more like a Facebook group than a serious forum.
For me (latest 10.2.9 Global ROM), the fingerprint when flat on a surface works just fine; but as others said before, try re-adding your fingerprints using more different and wider angles; perhaps your finger was at 0 degree when you added the fingerprint whilst in real-life practice your finger is usually at 15 degrees. Making sure you cover all the sides of your finger helps (I have 5 fingerprints for 5 fingers registered, one was responding badly, so I readded that one and it works fine ever since).
But perhaps its indeed (latest( EEA ROM related ?
Same issue with the latest Global Beta, sadly.

Hi. The problem is that seems like the fingerprint is disconnected. It doesn't react to any finger, it doesn't turn on. As soon as you pick up the phone it works flawlessly with any of the registered fingerprints.

I had the same problem on stock MIUI, with locked bootloader. Now I'm on Revolution OS and the problem seems solved, so I think it's a software issue.
Anyway when I had the problem, when the phone was on flat surfaces, I used to put my thumb on the bottom frame of the device, unlocking with the index (so using just one hand), and it worked perfectly. You can try this as a temporary workaround waiting for a software fix.

Ok, that clarifies things; I thought it was conditionally unresponsive or inaccurate, but what you describe seems like the wakelocks are too aggressively set., very typical of MIUI.
Normally one would go Settings | Battery & Performance | Power Usage, and in the top-right hamburger-menu select 'Show System Apps' and select the Lock Screen or Fingerprint / Biometric services app and disable it's 'Power Restrictions' , but MIUI hides all most internal services.
Instead, download the MiAppa and click the 'Battery optimisation' tool; then in the blue title/dropdown bar select 'All Apps' instead of the default 'Not optmised' ... now a lot of internal services and components show up. Scroll down to 'MiuiBiometric' and changes it's 'optimize' setting to 'dont optimize'. That might help with it's wakelocks being filtered. I haven't tested the setting myself - and there are a lot of other system services that might be relevant to test - so please give it a good try.
Alternatively, run a custom ROM or enable the double-tap to wake (and/or pickup to wake, but I think you already had that active), so you tap to 'wake' it, and then the fingerprint does work instantly. Internally in 'deep sleep' state it might not respond to the fingerprint directly (i.e. after a few minutes idling with screen off), whilst screen-off idle before the deep-sleep state still works fine ...
Latest 10.2.24 EEA, zero problem.
Cue the "omg omg I have a bad phone how to fix plzzz"

Thanks. I've been trying what you said without success. Doesn't matter if the screen is on (on lock screen) or off. It seems like you need to be touching and holding the device with the hand.
What is surprising me is that if I am touching with a finger the frame of the phone in the usb port zone (the only part exposed as I am using a Nillkin cover) then seems to work the fingerprint sensor.
The problem only appeared since the last update so I am pointing to software error. I've reported to Xiaomi through the app.

Ok, that clarifies things; I thought it was conditionally unresponsive or inaccurate, but what you describe seems like the wakelocks are too aggressively set., very typical of MIUI.

Have you tried unlocking with fingerprint in lockscreen (screen on)? Doesnt it different from the phone off? Mine is still same. When screen on, it should not be optimized.
Well, trick of unlocking with finger hold in side of phone seems help, but not much.
Plus add this trick, register your thumb 2 or 3 times, focus registering and unlocking in the center of thumb, not the tip. Dont use index finger. These combination of tricks really help for me unlocking in flat surface.
Hi All,
My Nokia 9 unlocks in my trousers even if I manually lock it.
What's your experience in this area?
For me the fingerprint reader is unreliable at unlocking, especially in areas where there less then normal lighting, shadow included.
Now I'm sure my trousers unlocks my phone as well, this would only be possible with a false positive from the fingerprint reader, do you agree?
Cheers,
Peran
same thing happens to me so i turned off fingerprint and just use a pin now its better then pocket dialing
My problem is bit different, I've posted a thread about it - when ringing in pocket it answers or rejects the phone call while moving inside. I use a pocket locking app that uses the proximity sensor. It's tought to drain the battery, but I haven't noticed such problem.

I solved these problems by simply always having the phone in my pocket in such way, that back of the phone is facing my leg.
I experienced same issue after turning off fingerprint reader.
This fixed it:
Settings - Security & Location: set "Screen Lock" at least to "Swipe" so your phone won't unlock in your pocket.
Did it fix it for you?

Hi, I've the same problem. Did you find any other solution than using 3rd party app?
This needs to be reported to nokia for fixing it in upcoming updates.
