Hi,
First off, I have a non rooted, stock Galaxy note. It's not modded in any way.
The problem started occurring yesterday, all was just fine before. Since then, it won't charge no matter what USB cable or charger I use.
1) Phone on
- I plug the charger to the phone : nothing. The phone doesn't register being connected to the OEM wall-charger.
- I connect the phone using the OEM USB cable to my computer (tryed 3 different computers) : Nothing.
I also tried another charger and several USB cables : no luck.
2) Phone off
- I plug the charger / I connect my phone to a computer using USB cable : the phone boot up and doesn't charge the battery.
Any thought ?
Thx in advance.
Try using some compressed air to clean out the usb port on the Galaxy Note. I had a similar issue with an iPhone once and there ended up being a piece of lint stuck on 1 of the contacts which made it unable to charge. Could be the case with your phone. Other than that contact Samsung and see what they can do for you.
Thx for the advice.
I'll try that out and call over Samsung.
Try factory reset if that could help..

Update:
I tried a micro USB Host Cable (OTG Cable) and it's working fine : recognized and plugged in USB stick is working fine.
Also, I tried a factory reset after backuping my data. All went fine but sadly the problem is still there : no charging.
More update:
After two days, It started working again as if it never happened.
Still wondering what might have caused it
Might be the dust that settled on the battery pins and the contacts on your phone.. happens some times .. glad its back to work.. poor thing..

Happened to me too! It wouldn't charge until I turned off the phone. It worked after I cleaned the phone and usb cable's metal parts--sorry no correct jargon for this--with rubbing alcohol. Make sure there's no lint left from the cleaning.
Yup, had this. On charge with stock charger in the mains. Battery dropping fast, back (top) getting warm. I turned the screen off, left it for 5 mins. Looked again, it was 2% less!
Reboot fixed it.
There did not seem to be any rogue program using the CPU, but I now have a meter and a better logger to examine this if it occurs again. I assume the system got into a loop somewhere, although the phone was normally responsive.

Happening to my phone as well right now. I was worried that the battery is dying so I got a spare online. But it doesn't make sense that its charging and know that it is on one state and not the other.
I panicked so I replaced Rocket Rom with Cassie's. It's still doing this.
Have you guys checked if there is a weird smell from your battery? I thought that was something to look at but dont all batteries smell like that?
galaxy note is experiencing the same hardware problems as galaxy s2 phones. I am very pissed off at samsung. I bought a new galaxy note in dominican republic and after one month of delicate use the phone developed charging problems. Drive mode would start automatically or the phone would shut off all by itself and a battery removal reset would turn the phone on again. then finally, the phone would stay in charging mode even after the usb charge cable is removed. the phone would discharge quickly and then would not turn on. I finally gave the phone to repair dept at claro phone company. they would not fix it and are just showing me a middle finger. Now I guess, I would have to learn to change the charging port myself. After seeing galaxy s2 videos, I see many ribbon contacts would get corroded and need to be cleaned frequently. Many phones were just less than 2 months old and had so much corrosion on the contacts. this is bad design and I think the high current draw for a dual core phone of that huge screen size is causing all kinds of electrical corrosion on the contacts inside the phone. this sucks majorly as I loved the phone when I had it working fine. Now I think I have bought a problem with my saved cash. I will try to repair my own phone soon as I get it back from the repair dept.
My Galaxy Note is doing a similar thing. Not all the same symptoms, but a few similarities.
The other night, when the charger was plugged in the phone kept changing it's mind whether it was plugged in or not - probably every few seconds I was getting the chime it makes when you plug the phone in. I eventually managed to charge the phone by turning it off, removing the battery, replacing it, plugging the charger in, waiting for it to start charging, then turning it on.
Today my phone was trying to tell me it was charging when it wasn't even plugged in to anything!
As with the above post, my phone has been getting hot occasionally and the drive mode has started by itself a few times.
I've used three chargers and four cables.
I'll be taking it along to where I bought it from later on today.
Battery not charging
G Note Battery is not charging .. same problem as of 1st post.
Changed usb cables, chargers, thru PC, laptop, direct wall, cleaning etc
Every thing fails. one month old set ?
OMG, glad to know I'm not the only one. Bought a Galaxy Note from a brazilian network provider (VIVO) and after 1 week of usage I'm experiencing the same problems as you guys.
My phone will only charge when it is powered off and USB connection does not work anymore (even in download mode). Before the problem onset, I noticed some MTP connection and SD Card rescanning without connecting to the PC.
Did a factory reset and got no results. Downloaded Odin Mobile and flashed stock rom and the problem persists.
Has anyone found a fix or the cause for this?
Thanks!
Missing my old Galaxy S...
Strange! After a full night charge, now I can unplug and plug the battery and continue charging from where I stop without turning it off.
I can now get beeps when connecting to PC. It show MTP-Inicialization in the Note screen but I have no access to to Note partitions in Windoes Explorer.
Update: One more strange thing just happened now.
Went to college and left it charging. When I came back at night, tried to connect the Note to the PC and everything is working ok now.
What?!?! Now I'm confused. How can I send it to warranty now? I think I'll have to wait a couple more days.
issue as well
That is my 3rd galaxy note, first one screen cracked, second dont ask me why it was not modified at all but it was so sluggish and froxze all the time, my 3rd one it is rooted device and i have similar issue...I am thinking is it because i was charging it from my wife's htc one phone? I thought they would have the same pins...anyway it is doomed, i tried so many chargers and problem not solved
ok i can comfirm to everyone that i have fixed the problem by buying contact cleaner spray and sprayed inside the usb and beautiful all back to normal!
Nooo..
Have a charging problem as well :/ It detects the charging cable and shows the battery icon with the circle about to charge. But it just turns off before it starts charging, turns on shows the icon again, turns off, turns on, shows the battery icon and so on. I have tried with two different chargers. For me i looks like the voltage is too low? Maybe the battery needs a jumpstart? I'll just leave it in the charger and see what happens. Suggestions welcome
Edit: It's just two weeks old, damn it. Last night I used it untill the battery was empty. That is why I think the voltage is so low it doesnt accept charge.
Edit2: Fixed! Puh! I was right. Battery needed a higher mah to start the charging. Leaving the post as it is for future reference.
same problem here, however it charges from my laptop... how strange?

You might try this. It fixed mine, which is why I wrote it
It might "look" ok, but get a strong power loop (15x) to really get a good

I had the exact same problem last week. Ics was unusable due to pop up: charging paused. Voltage to high. Even when usb was unplugged.
I fixed the problem by running the battery flat. Charged to 100% ran fully flat again and then charged again. No problems since. I think the problem was caused by flashing cm9 when on charge. Sounds unlikly but its all i can think of.
Hope this helps

this problem has been discussed earlier. please do a research and you will see a solution. the problem is hardware not software. take the battery off and then push the usb pins straight insde the phone. take a tiny screwdriver and push the usb pins in the usb port of the phone straight back inside the phone. problem solved.
Final solution to charging problems
Guys, stop messing around with cleaning and pushing before you do more damage to your Notes.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/180772505164...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3514wt_1002
arrived today, 7 minutes later replaced and all good and working perfectly. It is really easy to do that (unless of course you have warranty, in that case just have Samsung do that for you - I couldn't because Samsung does not give a flying f**k about customers in Canada who happen to prefer the International version of their own f**ked up product - especially with the COMMON problem like this one)
There is a video tutorial on YouTube about opening the note, for this particular part it takes total of 12 philips screws and prying the case with plastic case opener - I ordered this tool of e-bay as well)
You don't need to be an expert to fix this problem...
You get an airbrush and blow some air on your phone's micro USB port. Do it a couple of times and you should be good to go. Some logical reasons why you get this problem, is that overtime some lints and dusts can gather and accumulate on the insides of your Note's micro usb port.
A simple airbrush is all there is to it.
I my case i tried cleaning with air, with alcohol while it was in the phone and when it was removed from phone and nothimg helped. Replacing the 16 dollars part fixed the problem (hopefully) permanently

Just to chime in with my own experience. I started having this problem a few weeks ago. The phone would keep telling me it was charging, even with it not connected to any charger, or would constantly flash the battery icon in the notification bar from charging to not charging continuously. Even rebooting the phone did not help at all. When the phone was off, the screen would continuously show a grey battery, then a green battery with the indicator dots below it saying it was charging (and it was not even connected to a charger). Since the phone was constantly keeping itself awake from turning itself from a charge state to an uncharge state, it would drain the battery quicker than usual, about 10%/hour when screen was off on ICS.
At first cleaning the ports with a interdental brush and some alcohol and then blowing some compressed air helped for a few weeks and then the problem came back. After that, cleaning the ports did not work. I have also tried pushing the usb strip inside the port in as suggested above and that did not work.
I figured it was a hardware problem as I did a search and I saw that the Galaxy SII and GNexus (which are also 2nd generation Galaxy S phones as the Note is) were also having the same problems as well, and the result in most cases was to replace the charging port. In fact there is a 17+ page thread in the GNexus forum where the charging ports are problematic here on XDA. I guess the charging ports in this generation of phones are not that great as I have never had a problem with the charging ports of both my Epic 4G and Nexus S 4G (which were from the 1st generation of Galaxy S phones).
Since I am in the USA, Samsung USA will not fix my phone since it is an international version, and I don't want to ship it out of the country, wait weeks, pay a lot on shipping costs, and hope they actually do fix it. So I decided to fix it myself.
So long story short, I ordered a new charging port from eBay (~$10 shipped) and a set of Samsung phone maintenance tools (small phillips and torx screwdriver, tweezers, a pry tool and 2 guitar pick looking tools) from eBay (~$3 shipped) and watched a few disassembly videos on Youtube and did it myself. It was actually very easy to do and took me no more than 15 minutes. All fixed now, no more "phantom" charging, no constant annoying phone waking-up-by-itself notification beeps, etc.
My solution
Same problem here too...but thanks to some posts in XDA, I could determine that it was basically a result of dirty USB connection points.
So, I used a tooth brush to gently rub and clean the connection points from the outside ( without dissembling the USB port- not that adventurous u see!).
After a little bit of cleaning and blowing air into the port I switched on the phone and the problem was gone!:good:
Been just a couple of hours since the 'treatment'- will keep you guys posted if it comes back...fingers crossed!!

Good luck!
Hopefully yours continues to work after the cleaning. Mine did the same thing for a couple of weeks after cleaning it and no amount of cleaning or pushing the pins back worked. I finally broke down and bought a new charging port and did it myself (see my post above yours). In fact, since I did that fix, it has been forking flawlessly ever since. I still think it's a common problem in the 2nd generation of Galaxy S devices (GS2, GNote, GNexus) for whatever reason since it hasn't happened to either of my 1st generation Galaxy S phones (Epic 4G and Nexus S 4G). Maybe a bad batch of charging ports for our phones possibly. In fact I'm thinking about buying another charging port as back up if it does happen again just so I don't have to wait a few days for the part to arrive.
If it does happen again and cleaning doesn't work, then I really do suggest changing the ports. It is really easy and their are several videos on YouTube that show you how to open and take apart your phone. You can buy everything you need off eBay for about US $15 (charging port and Samsung tools).
Hi all. There is a standalone way to charge the Note GT n7000 battery? I'd like to try if it works before buying a new usb module but without battery I can't.
Thank you very much.
I tried severals usb outputs and wall chargers but nothing! also my usb cable is not defect because I meαsure the output with a polymeter and the cable works perfectly!
Any ideas?
thanks in advance!

Pebble not charging issue - fixed
Just in case anyone else hasn't sorted this out yet, if your pebble is still on, do a factory reset and let the battery run until it goes completely off, then plug the cable and wait it will come back in a few minutes just like the first day.
If it went off before you were able to do the reset, unplug it and let it rest for an hour and plug it in it will go on, as soon as it does, do the reset "DO THE RESET" then let it charge for two hours and sync, your apps will be gradually restored from your phone.
In case you were thinking you got a faulty device, think twice! This will eventually happen to all pebbles out there! I have 5 of those gizmos in house (from wife to children and mine too) all suffered from same!
Hope this helps!
I had a problem charging at first using a blackberry wall plug, when I got rid of that thing I haven't had a prob since.

After having the problem of it not charging, tried everything, factory reset, still not charging, different USB ports etc.
After it went flat it still wouldn't charge and was dead. There was voltage on the charging pins so the cable seemed ok.
I gave up on it a month or so ago.
Well I just got it out in a vain attempt to get it working again after reading another post I found and I now have a watch that it charging again!!!
Initially, same problem after an hour plugged in, watch was dead.
Then I squeezed the plug while holding in the middle button on the other side of the watch for about 60 seconds then the battery icon' came up on the display!!!!
A few minutes later, the watch has booted up!!!!! yay!
I am guessing it was a misalignment of the charger pins inside the watch which has somehow been corrected by holding the middle button firmly in, or maybe holding the middle button in for 30 seconds was a full reset which allowed it to charge again. Who knows but its working again.
The same problem here, no solution yet. It is really frustrating. After a year of using the pebble.
I had a problem with the contacts on the watch being dirty prevented charging.
Try your cable with other Pebble watch. If it is charging then there is a problem with your watch or charger pin otherwise problem with your cable.
This worked!

Hi all, this suggestion fixed my charging issue. Thanks!
Just like the original Pebble having an internal issue with the display cable getting loose resulting in a corrupted display, I believe the Pebble Time has the same problem with internal connections, but this time it's the charging port. I too have run into this issue and bought new charging cables and continue to have issues getting a charge to start so I do not believe the cables are the issue. If you look at the iFixit teardown of the Pebble Time, you will see the power port connects via pass through charge pins that contact the back of the Pebble Time motherboard inside. I believe the motherboard is not making good contact with the pins. Some have noticed if you squeeze the charging cable to the watch it starts to charge and if you let go it will lose connection again which supports my theory. This temporarily fixes the internal connection issue. The only handsfree method I have found to work for me involves using a strong clothespin (or some kind of clamp). This holds it long enough to maintain full contact inside to get a full charge. I believe Pebble is throwing replacement cables out because it is cheaper to do this than to admit there is a problem in the watch design causing the loss of ability to charge and issue recalls for repairs.
Hello I have a note 5 - SM-N920C on stock M 6.0.1
about two months the phone stop fast charging and doesn't get recognised by the pc
the thing I tried :-
* try different USB cables ( 2 came with the phone - 2 new once )
* factory rest ( twice with wpie chashe )
* change the charger
I wanted to test other stock Roms but I can't get it recognised by odin .
and I have 2 note 5 all the cables work fine on the other one .
I seem to have same issue here.
I have the Note 5 from tmo(SM-N920T)
Baseband - N920TUVU2DPD1
Stock - 6.0.1
You have the exact same issues i've had. I also had issues where when i would have the phone plugged in ( to the wall adapter ) and rebooted it, it would think its a media device like a computer where it could share files and stuff... Also take like 5 hours to charge from 20%
Here I'll make this fix SUPER EASY..
1. Download Package Disabler PRO - I dont think it has to be the pro version but i bought it a long time ago
2. Search for 'power'
3. Disable 'com.sec.app.TransmitPowerService''
4. Reboot
I would add screenshots but as i dont have 10 posts im unable to post screenshots or links to the app in the playstore.
The wife's phone started this Saturday after updating. Also, hers beeps and has the charging blue wave as if she plugged the cable in. While actually charging, it disconnects and starts charging constantly.
The beep and blue wave is normal. The charging and no charging sounds like a faulty cord that's not making good connection
The beep and blue wave happens when she is not plugged in. Phone just sitting there not being charged or touched. We thought at first it was a bad cable, but we've tried several. Even does it on the wireless pad. Therefore I'm not sure it's the port. I think it's software related.
Have you tried safe mode?

Did try safe mode and a factory reset. Sprint store I brought it to tried several cables and another factory reset with no luck so they ordered her a replacement. They weren't too interested in figuring it out. In fact, 3 other people came in with various issues and were just given the number to make an insurance claim without even looking at the phone.
I disabled that apk abd it detects all my fast chargers as fast ones. Where it didn't. If i re-enable it it stops workin
might be hardware issue, Try Wireless charger and see if it charges fast. if it charges good with wireless charger then you have to change you CHARGING PORT.

Had the same exact issue on a refurbished unit . Old note didn't do it, but had to exchange it due to adhesive glue coming up in upper left corner. I did multiple resets and finally went with the option of fresh install as not to import back my apps. It hasn't replicated our issue in the last few hours. I am hoping that takes care of it.
Did you by chance get a random gear VR screen prompting you to download the app and what not? I did and read others had the same issue and only way to get this to stop is to download it and then create an account, reboot and viola it solved it.
Stuff is crazy, love the phone but have had more issues with it over even El cheapo phones....

I got similar problem... now after 10 days I just can not go with this.
my youtube problem.
https://youtu.be/payi2IuJhdI
My NOTE 5 is thinking that is charging all the time. It drives me crazy.
With the USB cable it charges 1 time out of 20 and on a random day. I had to charge it via wireless. It wakes up all the time and can not use UBS.
Strange part is, that I can use my USB micro stick with my root and custom ROM. But that is it. No ODIN, no tranfer files.......
Did everything except change the USB port (it is on it's way). ( that will be my last resort)
ANY THOUGHTS.
I have a feeling that water damage was somewhere in there. (been driving with my bike on a rainy day and it looks like it got a little wet in my upper front pocket.
mine recognises fast charge very randomly. before it happened rarely but now it never shows fast charging with the original cable. the only thing that helped me was ordering a third party cable and using the original ac plug. let me know if that helps to any of you guys!
Ugh. N920a mine started this in March after having it maybe 3months. I called att and told them to send me a new one the other day. Unit arrived this morning. My opinion is its a bad USB port. This imho is the weakest link in Samsung devices-- this POS antiquated USB crap.
The thing would cycle CHARGING -- DISCONNECT, over and over. Wiggling the cord would affect the condition. Fast charge happened 1 out of 20 attempts.
I'll let you know how long the new unit lasts-- my most recent purchase is a wireless charger because, as stated this ***t is bound to happen again.
Unbelievable. My phone was totally fu**d. Than I sad I will fix it my self, so I bought the USB board and waited to get it. In the mean time I used it as normally, just wireless charging and that's it.
But after two weeks, the phone was getting a little better, not fixed, but due to custom ROM and a few tweaks, it did not turn on itself all the time.
But after I played quite a few games, (hitman) the phone did heat up all the time, and that my friends FIXed my problem. NOW the phone works as before the moister get to it.
I have my NOTE 5 back, yee.
SO when you have moister problem - play games.
Hey guys,
I had this exact problem - no more fast charging, no USB OTG or recognized by computer after
upgrade to Marshmallow. Tried multiple cords, different computers (Mac, and Windows), etc.
I sent it in for repair to Samsung and they 'fixed' it and are in the process of shipping it back
I put 'fix' in quotes because the repair tracking says it was solved, but I haven't received it back yet to
test. It should be coming in tomorrow.
Quick charge and USB issues have been fixed! IF you're still under warranty, I'd highly recommend sending it in.
When i plug in my phone to the charger i get the charging message that sometimes disapires after like 3 secs if that happens my phone wont charge but i still see the charge on the battery icon near the time at the upper right corner. I need to disconnect it a few times and replug beffore the charging text stays and the phone finally starts to charge.
Anyone had a similar problem?

I have same issue. Change cable and it will solve this.
I think I have the same problem here. Today I placed my phone on a charger today and after some time I checked it out and it hadn't charged at all. I inserted the cable one more time and it succesfully started charging. I have to look more into the issue because as of now I am not that sure I have the same problem as you but i suspect it.
PS: appeared today, Pie, security patch as of 1st of Februar. It didnt happen before, I think it is some kind of software issue.
Same here. Tried different cables and charging blocks too.
It's your usb c port.
Had mine replaced. Now it's working again as intended.
There are quite a few complaints about this in the nokia community forum (sorry no link. Easy to look up though).
I just get my device back. They replace sub board and probably LCM module because I also tell them about that yelow bottom of LCD

So it is software issue, not hardware issue??
i started facing this issue after July update as far as i remember(surely after Jun)
phone starts charging as soon as i plug the cable but stops after ~10 seconds, even if it's on the flat surface and nothing is touched
i strongly feel this is a SW bug, thinking of doing a hard reset

Had this issue as well. I had to hit just the right spot for the phone to charge. On the lockscreen at the bottom there had to be this little "charging" message and only then it would charge.
Tried different cables, different outlets, different power adapters and nothing helped so for me it was more of a hardware issue.
Tried factory resetting and it still wouldn't charge.
Checked out the port itself if there was any dust in it or if anything was bent or damaged - nothing.
It really sucked cause you couldn't use your phone while it was charging. Even the slightest movement of the cable would interrupt the charging process.
Sooo I sent it to repair and I'm still waiting... It's been 4 weeks now. Next time I'll just repair it myself. But this is actually quite a deal-breaker for this phone. Everything else is totally fine and I was absolutely satisfied with its quality but not being able to charge it is a no-go.
I have TA-1055 version of this phone since it's release UK
and have never had this problem nor in fact, any other problems/ faults that appear on these forums.
guys i have this problem now. the phone when connected to charger doesn't shows as charging but if left untouched it's indeed getting charged but very slowly like 1% in 15 minutes. what should i do? I've already tried different chargers and cables but the problem is still there. it's happening since yesterday just after i updated my phone with Sep 2019 security patch. I've the Indian version ie TA 1046.

Had same issue. I send my unit to repair service. They changed bottom board with USB connector. Half year later my phone have no problem with charging but I have to send my unit again. This time screen in lower left side start to peel off the housing. Probably adhesive they used last time was not so good. Hope they will fix it quickly.

How much they charged for replacing the bottom board ?
I suffer the same issue in my Nokia 7 Plus
I noticed the problem some weeks ago, sometimes I connect the cable to the phone but the connection isn't good and charge doesn't start. I have made tests with different cables and chargers but doesn't matter, although some of them works better than the others it's a lottery to made a good connection. I believe it's a hardware problem (a hard reset didn't help), so I've sent the phone to the repair center, I hope they'll send it back soon.
