I installed Allo, having been told that Google Assistant will come with it. I have a OP3T
After downloading it seems nothing more than Google Now?? Is there something else I need to do
I would really appreciate any help you can give
Hi @eric0668
Allo will allow you to use the google assistant only within the application it self. If you would like google assistant instead of google now then there are different ways to do that.
Thanks H3rnand3zz
In spite of the number of posts I am really a newbie.
1. So even when I open Allo, it seems no different than Google Now
2. Could you help me get it working like it does on the Pixel [Non root]. I had the Pixel and really liked Google Assistant
Thanks Again

Sure no problem... So for the first question. You have to send Google assistant a message. So on the bottom right corner of the Convo list click new message icon and chose Google assistant.
2nd question download this app.... It works perfect and will give you Google assistant but you need root.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trivisionzero.getassistant
Unfortunately, you cannot get Google Assistant to work in the same way as it does on the Pixel without rooting. Downloading Allo does not activate Google Assistant through your Google app, it simply lets use it server-side. To enable true Google Assistant, either root or wait a few weeks. Google has stated that they are officially releasing Assistant on all phones with Android 6.0+ "soon".

You can use Freedom OS. There's google assistant which I'm using. You just need to select it in the Aroma Installer.
Hi everybody
Until a couple of days ago, I was able to use voice commands in Android Auto without the need for Google Assistant. Now it seems that Google has made some changes that force me to use assistant if I want to use voice commands.
Is there a way I can work around this? There's no way I am giving Google permission to use my web and app activity or my location history. It's not necessary for voice to work since it worked perfectly without these permissions in the past.
Any ideas? Is reverting back to an older version of AA an option?
I have this same issue. At one point I got around it by changing my country of origin to a country where they haven't yet implemented android assistant (giving the voice an Australian like accent), but i eventually gave up and went back to USA without assistant. I am also curious if there is any way around it
Same here, Android Auto was working fine before Google Assistant was introduced, with plain voice search, and it was super useful to just say OK Google, Play something on Spotify, or OK Google, Go to address this and that. Now the only thing we get back from Google is "When it's safe, you'll first need to tap on the notification". No way I'm turning on Web, Location, Device and Voice History.
Has anybody found a solution to this? Google Assistant requires full access to just about everything Google in order to operate.
I don't want to give Google my entire search access just to use Android Auto.
There was a work-around where you could set your language to US Virgin Islands or something (Where google assistant wasn't live yet), but in the end I decided to not use the microphone in Android Auto anymore
Hi! I recently bought the k20 pro with the Chinese rom on it. I have installed Google services and all the other necessary Google apps however I can't get the Google Assistant always listening feature to work. The option is grayed out as shown in the screenshot. It says the feature is not available for this language but my language is set to English US. Does anybody have any solution for this problem?
Any ideas?
Hey I have the same problem, it is a widespread issue with the Google assistant which is not inherent to the k20 pro. Their is a verity of solutions being spread non of which seem to be working for everyone or are permanent solutions
You can try solutions offered here: https://support.google.com/assistant/thread/297767?hl=en
But there is also a specific problem with xiaomi phone suggested here: https://dgit.com/google-assistant-not-working-52433/
They state ''There are a few current problems that don’t have any confirmed workarounds, and the best option is to wait for an official software update.
Not working on Xiaomi smartphones – A recent update from Xiaomi has seemingly broken Google Assistant on a majority of Xiaomi smartphones. Some users have found that disabling the lockscreen password seems to help but the issues seem to return after a few days.''
I've flashed the pixel experience rom form Ustav and still have the same problem, it looks like the problem is coming from the Assistant application itself more than anything else.

I've looked a little bit further and found this guide on how to fix it, haven't tried it myself yet so can't tell whether it works, might aswell give it a shot. Will try myself later today and update
https://www.lifewire.com/fix-cant-change-google-assistant-language-4586843
It is working as it should on the Indian version
I can confirm "Ok Google" works like a charm on Indian firmware.
I've tried the above mentioned solutions but can't seem to get it working. I've also made sure SafetyNet is passed but that didn't do the trick either. Only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with the recent unrest about Google listening in to the recordings in Europe. Which I honestly doubt. Other than that it is something which is above my understanding of this all.
so, i've tried a lot of methods and seems like the best i can do is logging into google play store, but not youtube and other google apps?
couldn't sign in
there was a problem communicating with google servers.
try again later.
need some guidance here, how do i get everything to work?
i found out that there's a bug for data vs wifi - you need to connect to wifi in order to sign in.

I can confirm this, apps like "Google", "Voice Search" and "Assistant" time out with errors when using data on T-Mobile, but it works on wifi. I can't navigate to a street using assistant over 4G, but if I go directly into the Maps app and use the microphone icon in Maps it works correctly.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?

is it just for Tmobile or google services don't work on any mobile data?
Go to Apps & Notifications > Google services
Same issue
I am having similar issues. But, at one point google play store was stuck on loading. Also, gmail wasnt sending or receiving emails.
The problem comes and goes. Like, just now, I couldn't load any YouTube videos.
When I connect on WiFi, all the problems go away and switching back to mobile data. Works for a bit.
It is also only Google services. Twitter, WhatsApp, chrome, all fine.
@op, what sim card slot are you using?
Got it to work.
Go to System -> Applications -> Google Services
And turn on "Allow to use Mobile Data"

If you go to Settings -> Applications -> See all ### Apps -> [scroll to and tap on Outlook app] -> Data Usage -> [turn on "Background Data", and "Unrestricted Data Usage" options]
Tell me if that works. I did this step for apps: Calendar [google version from Play Store], Carrier Services [from Play Store] Gmail, Google, Google Play, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Hangouts.
I gave them all unrestricted data access and full permissions just to be safe. It's not like there's a risk of running out of battery on this phone, lol!
edit: I am on the China rom version and I see these settings.

I flashed into the WW version. So, all my little issues went away.
My instructions was for Google services.
Have your tried to go to battery optimisation and turning off optimisation for Outlook?
Also, there might be something under mobile manager to turn off as well?
Hi! I specifically made an account to reply, or rather, to reconfirm, that issues about this topic still persists in my phone.
Bought the Tencent Edition of the ROG Phone 2 few days back, I first encounter this issue yesterday when I open my Maps app and the map didn't load (grey screen) and at that time I was using my mobile data. Searched the net how to fix it, and did a few tweaks (mainly clearing cache, data and removing google account) and thankfully the map loads. However, another issue arises, I can't use Google app, Play Store and can't login on Google Maps. When I try to log in my account, I get the "There was a problem communicating with Google servers", and I assume most of you guys here had that exact problem.
I tried everything that almost every forums recommends. Starting from rebooting the phone, uninstalling updates from Google Play Store, clear the cache and storage of Google Play services and Google Play Store again, checked if my Apps & notifications/Google Services is on, turned on all notifications; permissions; background data and unrestricted data usage on all corresponding Google apps and services (Carrier Services, Google app, Google Play services, Google Play Store, Maps) and turned off battery optimization for the mentioned apps. Not any of the above worked for me, the only thing that resolves it is when I used Wifi to log in.
I know that this may be a minor issue and I know that I won't feel any of it hindering my daily phone usage. But I'm really bothered by the fact that something in my phone doesn't work normally as it should. I have been using Samsung phones for the longest time and haven't experienced such problems before. Is this really a bug and can't be fixed till who knows when, or is there something that I overlooked? Thanks much and sorry for the lenghty post. Blessings
cn version has this issue
fixed with ww rom
cn version is destinated to oriental market especcially
Thanks much for the help!
I don't have any experience in modding ROM, but I did find a guide here on how to do that. I'll think about whether I'm gonna try flashing my ROM or not, because... flashing ROMs will void the phone's warranty, yes?

If you bought a phone that was meant for the Chinese market in another country, you never really had a legit warranty right to begin with. (at least not with Asus, maybe with the seller if they have such policies)
Chinese ROMs have all Google services blocked. (Google services are banned in China). So you need to flash to WW ROM, sometimes seller will do it when they sell a Chinese phone to a different market, but apparently not in your case.

That makes sense lol.
Alright, I'll try flash my ROM later. Any noob-friendly guide you can recommend to me? Other than the guide by AryanAA.
And um, I know I can probably learn this if I searched for it, but does flashing your ROM resets/wipes your whole phone? And is there any major changes I should know (like maybe I won't be able to use some features ever again)? And is it kinda similar to rooting your phone?
Sorry for the noob questions, any help is much appreciated. Tqvm!

Hi was your issue fixed? I'm having same issues on Rog Phone 2, YouTube, Gmail, Google drive won't load with 3h/4g, they only load with WiFi. Have you for a fix ? Please reply
Hi guys, coming back to the forums after a long hiatus!
I have this issue also... Gapps don't work great on mobile data but perfect on WiFi... Some are fixed after clearing data but some are persistently bad such as gdrive which is important to me...
My phone is from ebay, its a tencent with a global rom and I'm in the UK...
Looking at my device info, it looks like my phone has a WW rom but a CN fingerprint... I will have the fingerprint changed today, update to 1910 and drop an update...
