Dead Pixels change - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I’m basically a user and I'm looking for a workaround for a problem. I have a Moto G2 2014 XT1040. It has fallen and now show some dead pixels at screen's bottom. I need some app or trick that helps me turn those dead pixels black to integrate them to my navigation bar's format/color while I can't buy a new LCD. Give me some ideas, please. I know I could use search engine, but probably I would take eons to find something. Thanks already.

You can use the overscan trick and decrease screen size on one or two lines! There are some apps on PlayStore that do that.

[REQ] Screen Brightness Control Program???

First off, I apologize to anyone who looks at this thread thinking that I am posting another screen brightness program. On the contrary I am LOOKING for a program that will allow us to control the brightness level of the phone in small increments.
Before the Fuze I had the HTC Touch which on the homescreen had the option of pressing the brightness shortcut and it would jump the brightness up a notch and then reset down to the lowest value once it got to the highest. Anyone that had this phone or a similar HTC phone that ran..... HTC Home knows what I am talking about.
While using the fuze I have always wondered why I couldn't find anything like this for newer phones. Searching for the longest times on a number of different forums left me with nothing. The automatic screen brightness control of the touch pro is less then desirable. There's times when my phones plugged in but I'm reading news in bed and I want to be able to have the brightness set to low without having to go through the settings and bugger around with it all.
That said, does anyone know of something that will do this? Or is it possible for one of the awesome program developers here to create something like this?
Here's a screen shot just for referance. By pressing the lightbulb it would change the screen brightness of the phone.
Here's the app you're looking for:

BTW, when you post an app request add "[REQ]" in topic...
you Might also want to try Lumos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318&highlight=lumos
this automatically adjusts your backlight depending on your light meter. It has a very quick and easy setup wizard and works wonders on your battery as well!

I have that installed.. does a good job but I'd still like the option of just being able to manually change it as well. Thanks!

[APP] [updated] 4x4 Gyrometer/Inclinometer/Landmeter

Hello friends.
I am looking for an application for measuring car x and y tilt for offroad uses with 4x4 vehicle. Only one suitable app I found is the Kai's water level with its gyrometer feature, but this is very small and in my case I don't need bubbles,so I want to get a software to do my job,but with much larger indicator, angles and warnings as this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QegwIr4dle8
Is there anybody here, who can mix both functionalities of these softwares for me(cause I am not skilled with C)to one application? Super graphic effects aren't necessary.
Thanks in advance.
Very cool idea. I found this http://sites.google.com/site/srlappsproject/home/on-the-level-app its for android but looks cool.
This is very ideal, but for iPhone

In truth that's not a difficult app to write, however, I think you'll have issues if you are planning on using it on the move, as the sensor only measures the gravity that it perceives, so if you move the phone around, it gets terribly confused as to where "down" is.
I'm guessing you want to know that an incline of over x degrees is likely to cause the vehicle to tip, etc, but if you are bumping over rough ground, then you'll never get an accurate reading anyway IMHO.
Cheers,
Steve.
Well,I know, that the sensor reacts also for acceleration, because normally it measures inertial forces and the result is not depended only on the gravity. Anyway,it should be okay, because I need it for very slow motion of the car in difficult terrain and I want to see,if my tilt angle(especially to side) is in tolerance, because I don't want to flip the car on the roof. Are you skilled with this "easy" programming?
I would be happy to do the graphics for it just tell me what you need.

I wouldn't necessarily say "skilled", but I wrote the Touch Incall Screen Tweak which turns on/off the screen during a call based on the orientation of the phone, so I'm familiar with working with the accelerometer.
Cheers,
Steve.
Okay,I will prepare demo application tomorrow for PC. I want to have the functionality of the software in video, but with comparable graphics as Kai's bubble level gyrometer(visible horizont). It will be lonely one application of its type on the world,so you can be rich.
Maybe a little something like this. The buttons at the bottom would change color depending on the alarm setting for each angle. You could change that setting by pressing the corresponding button. The numbers in the buttons would give you the actual ° reading.
Just a thought.
Ok, I pulled a stupid moment, there would only be 2 axis, Yaw and Tilt. I was thinking 3D
Also the Waterlevel app found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411550 has the open source files posted with it, may save some time.
For me is enough to have just 2 axis. The front-end angle and side angle. The image posted before is quiet perfect, but we should have 4 buttons for X-warning,X-max,Y-warning-Y-max,when I hit one of them,I will be able to adjust it. Of course some notifications for these warnings are welcomed as well as angle value visible on the screen all the time.
Next thing what is also welcomed is the power-on ability to prevent auto-dim/off the display. All the things should be visible from the driver's place, when the phone is fixed on the dashboard,so the fonts should be big enough and of course the calibration function to be present.
With this picture you have saved me lot of time spended with programming the PC demo-now isn't needed, because all features are explained.
Anyway, thank you for your help and willingness.
Something more like this? Then pressing the X or Y button would take you to a setup page that you could set warning sounds for yellow or red and you could also set degrees for the setpoints of yellow warning and red warning for each axis.
Quiet perfect!
Can you enlarge the degree fonts and locate them to the bottom corners nearby the circle? Also the labels "Actual" are not necessary. Into the top corners maybe you can locate Calibration button and options/exit(if it will be fullscreened). The warning sounds is also not bad idea...
Like this?
Absolutely perfect!!!
Well done mate.
Now just make it working and it will be super. Are you able to make it alive?
Sorry I do not have that talent, wish I did.
Oh,what a shame. I'll try to take some developers here...
I think this needs moved to the developers thread.
Please, make this dream come true! I'm looking for this kind of software too!

Xperia SP vertical lines on screen

I noticed this while browsing the play store.. on light backgrounds or where the background is a single colour there is vertical greyish lines on the screen. They are spaced evenly with each line about 1/3 of the width of the space between them.
Someone posted a picture of it here which shows what I'm talking about
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...isibly-on-bright-white-background/td-p/427227
Is this how the screen is meant to be?

This is normal. With my XSP it's the same and I think this is caused by the display and all SP's should have that so don't worry
edit: What I mean with "this is caused by the display" is that I think that under the display is something, that has vertical stripes and because the screen is quite transparent you can see it in a special perspective

My phone has it too. I noticed it the first time I powered on the phone. I try very hard to ignore it everytime I see it
Good to know its normal.
I think it may be because of the glove mode feature, like some sensor under the screen that lets you use it without touch.

I don't think so. Before I had the SP i had the Xperia P without glove mode and it also had those stripes. Because it got broken I unscrewed it and the display as one had those stripes. Maybe just the touch sensors Whatever, for me it's not a problem ;D
few days ago I bought xperia sp. before buying looked at dozens reviews and non of them was pointing to this problem. I mean that there is visible vertical lines on bright backgrounds. I would never bought sp if knew that. how its possible that this phone is 12 by user rankings in gsmarena? are those users blind????

[Q] Will this cause burn in?

I have been reviewing the threads about burn in. It looks like white and blue colors seem to be the worst as well as large non moving items.
I have the always on mode active and was wondering how dim it needs to be during ambient mode to find a decent median between burn in and usability.
I found this theme and I really like it, however, cannot change the color from blue.
Attached are two photos - one ambient and one on, they both look way brighter than they really are. Do you guys think this will be a problem?
Thanks in advance
1. There are no photos attached.
2. Why did you not posted this in the burn-in thread ? It really required a new one ?
The burn in thread has turned into a debate about personal opinion regarding the use of the watch and its functions. Several have posted their watch face and asked for feedback and it is lost in the thread...
Ill just delete the thread and not reattach the photos.
Thanks for the help!

Light Bleed ?

From what has been doing the rounds, it seems as if the issue is real, but so far nobody has proved that it exists, with side by side comparisons showing different wallpapers or by playing videos.
Passing up on this phone would be quite unfortunate as there really is no true alternative to the Nokia 6.1 Plus, with bootloader unlocked, of course.
It'd be great if anyone could show how exactly the bottom area looks, on loading up different kinds of contents :fingers-crossed:

There is not light bleed. The light bleed that seems like is the navbar gradient on android oreo. I am a moto one power user and I assure you. There is no light bleed even at max brightness!
Some youtubers
Some youtubers done lcd test and we can see screen bleeding issue. On a plain black or grey background screen bleeding issue can be seen.
please, Prove it.
I tried, and i am confused

I got my phone 2 days back and the first thing i noticed was brightness on the bottom part of the phone (bottom part of navbar) was more than rest of the area.
I tried with 3 apps "Quora" "Whatsapp" and "Curiosity".
When i launched Quora, Navbar gradient was observed and it looks like backlight bleeding.
But when i launch Whatsapp or Curiosity, the navbar gradient disappears even at max brightness.
So i think this is not backlight bleeding, but i can't verify this with other apps, or even while watching videos on full screen.
this is definitely confusing. we need more data.
Bleeding
Backlight bleeding only visible on some background Colors. Is there anyone on Xda that can prove it that it is or it is not bleeding

What is there to "prove" ?
Take it from users who use the device daily. And coming to the YouTube reviews, aren't the review devices pre production? How good is the hardware there? The navbar gradient is implemented in a weird way by motorola which makes it feel like the light bleed in most of the apps. But I can assure you that its not there. I have tested extensively and you need to physically see it to understand the difference. You cannot visualise it over photos on the internet.
I mean if you people can remove that gradient and show us

No, what i meant was..... Moto does not give any UI option to user to disable Navbar gradient.
It's either system controlled or app controlled, i am not sure.
And like i said earlier, its not visible in all apps. so does not look like backlight bleeding.
Screen Bleeding Issue Solved.
For those who are wondering about the Screen Bleeding issue with the #MotorolaOnePower Let me clear out this for you, Yes, screen bleeding issue is present and it is ARTIFICIAL. (I don't know why but it is) And can easily be fixed via software updates.
How to disable it?
Install "Navbar Apps" from play store and make the navigation bar colour to solid white/black to overcome those ARTIFICIAL SCREEN BLEEDING issue or wait for the #Android9Pie Which probably will fix this issue.
Hope it helps.

What I think to test it. If this is software based gradient or artificial then screenshot can capture it. If screenshot can't capture that gradient it means it is screen bleeding. Can anyone test it and upload screenshotss?

It's the same as we can see in screenshot and yes I never believed that it's an light bleed issue...!!
As I have tested the same with some display tester app but I don't see any light bleed issue with higher brightness whatsoever...!! So it's a intended UI effect and not an issue...!!

The gradient is an overlay applied on the screen. It is similiar to the Night Light feature, when you capture screenshots with Night Light on, you don't see it in the screenshot.
Hope that helped clear confusions!
