Boot loader Unlock ( Full format or quick format) - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

Hi guys first time caller, longtime listener.
I have a Moto G6 that I would like to unlock the bootloader on,However as I understand it it does a low-level format of the phone during this process, does it in fact do a full low-level format where the data is unrecoverable. Or does it do a simple format which you could run a recovery program once the locker is unlocked thus allowing root and the application to retrieve lost photos. Yes i have looked but the area on this is grey and i didnt get a straight answer and I would like abit better understanding before i pull this trigger
Thank you guys for your help in advance

Unlocking Galaxy via adb without wiping

Hey.
I messed with a phone who had the pattern-lock and after enough tries it locked the phone informing me I needed the proper e-mail address and password. It's a phone's friend by the way.
He can't remember his right e-mail, so that end is lost.
Is there a way to bypass this unlock without wiping the entire phone? Through adb or something? Even a way to plug his phone and back-up all his stuff so it won't go to waste.
I really need your help here, thank you very much in advance.

[Q] Bootloader unlocked factory reset

Hi,
Today I tried to unlock my bootloader on Xperia T, because I recently downloaded android 4.3. When the bootloader was unlocked, I tried rooting the cell through usb debug. But it didn't work, I decided to look at it tomorrow, or at a later point. But when I restarted my phone, it was been factory reset. Some of the photos were recovered, but ALL my notes are gone and a lot of apps are gone, I never chose to format my phone or anything.
Is there a fix for this issue?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: my phone contacts seem unlinked from WhatsApp too... So the contacts are there, but WhatsApp doesn't recognise them.... I think the internal memory and the phone memory are corrupting each other
EDIT2: the contacts don't even seem to be there now, not even on Google, while I am 100% sure I saved the contacts to my Google account
I never heard of this issue before, but a bootloader unlock always factory resets the phone. Are you sure that your bootloader can be unlocked, and that it is still unlocked now? For unlock just follow the instructions on the official Sony page, they're clear enough.
I don't know a method for recovering data after factory reset, other than restoring your nandroid backup.

I am sure the bootloader unlock is possible, it might be that I unlocked the bootloader, while it was unlocked already. I don't know if this is the problem.

Did you unlock your bootloader before? If not, then it is still locked. However, the status now is a bit unsure Did you check in the service menu? ('call' *#*#7378429#*#* (*#*#SERVICE#*#*) and check Service Info -> Configuration -> Rooting Status, what does it say?)

Thanks for the reply, I did this, my phones bootloader is UNLOCKED, I was confused and did it again, so i double unlocked the bootloader, this seems to be the problem. Is there any way to get the data back?

Well, good to see your bootloader is indeed unlocked
If you didn't make any backups, there is almost no way to recover your data. The only thing I can think of is trying to recover something with data recovery software like Recuva (from Windows, not an Android app), but you should stop using your phone immediately, because if sectors on SD or internal storage are overwritten with new data it diminishes the chances of recovery of old data.
Now would be a good time to start backing up regularly, or at least before you start flashing roms, unlocking things, etc. There is a reason why we say 'always make a nandroid backup!' :angel:

Lock Pattern changed on its own, help sought as no longer able to unlock phone

Hi all,
Greetings first as this is my first post on XDA and appreciate all you guys contribution all the way through here. Back to the topic I got my X9 using in good condition unless of low remaining space yet some weeks ago during my normal use the machine suddenly froze and reboot and after that though I am able to unlock on the first boot screen, by using the same unlock pattern I cannot enter my desktop and it always tell the pattern is incorrect. Yet no matter how many trial I did it didn't force me to exponential-time-wait. I googled for some time and learnt that the same problem happened on samsung S7 and some nexus device (those HTC made ones?) So at this point I am wondering if:
- there is any chance I can unlock my phone without data loss? i tried "find your phone" on ADM yet over-riding lock screen seems no longer work;
- The machine is clean as-is from the factory without any s-on/off or unlock of bootloader; under current circumstance am I still able to install TWRP and get a back up being dumped? (seems I can dump a copy and use the pc script to look into the gesture-key, or simply delete the gesture.key from TWRP / aroma manager);
- Any other alternatives I can do? I really want to keep the data inside as there were some precious photo as well as some chat-record that is not being backup to the g-drive;
thanks in advance =)

S5 unlock after forgetting pin (without losing data)

Hi all, My friend has all her kids pictures on her S5 and needs to recover them. Is there any way of getting the pictures off when shes forgotten her pin? There is no remote access setup on the device and I was told by a friend to ask here before I pay out for data recovery from a third party.
Any help would be great, Thanks
Dave
just perform a factory reset from recovery. This doesn't touch internal storage. I am not sure the stock recovery, but TWRP doesn't touch it.

Hope someone can help you fix your N9.
Bad news odin and such wont help. Right now you are what's called soft locked you have 1 recourse and that is factory reset. Using adb it might be possible to pull off a backup of the file system but that is still it. If you get a readable backup you are still going to need factory reset. The only thing that would have helped would be twrp and nandroid backups you could have loaded them or used twrp to mount the emmc to copy off. And since you are stock you might have encrypted the emmc and sd card and if that is the case nobody can help you you only have 1 option and that is factory reset and restore from syncronized backup.
What's more is this isn't an issue of a maligned 3rd party theme needing to be overwritten it is from an official store on a stock device. Good news is you seem to have signed into samsung cloud backup and perhaps linked a google account to the phone so the auto backup should restore your contacts and txt messages.
