How can I connect to Ethernet?

I have a Tilt and expect to stay in a hotel that has Internet access via Ethernet, but no WiFi.
Any ideas on how to best connect my Tilt to their Ethernet?
First idea is maybe a WiFi travel router or AP like the DWL-6730AP, but I hate the idea of carrying along extra equipment when the whole point of the Tilt is to avoid bringing my laptop.
Is there some sort of Ethernet-to-USB dongle?

The Tilt has Ethernet support native. Go to settings, select Wifi & switch to NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver.

1. welcome to xda-devs
2. there is no memory card- or USB-based Ethernet interface for the Kaiser, sorry. Ethernet cards have only been produced as CF cards.

You could use something like a Linksys (or any brand, for that matter) WiFi router to do the trick and then connect to it.
You may run into an issue, though, because most hotels have an entry page where you have to accept their terms of service (yes, even the free ones do this) before getting out to the internet. It is possible that your router will not forward that properly to your phone, or that PIE won't render it properly and you won't be able to finish the signup.
Also note that unless you have something like a WRT54G Linksys router with custom firmware (like DD-WRT), you will be double-NATted, which may, in itself, cause problems.
@GSLEON3 - sure, the IP stack in the Tilt supports Ethernet, but you have to get Layer 1 out of the way first - the physical layer. If you can't physically connect an ethernet cable to the phone, how are you gonna get to the internet?
A lot of hotels have WiFi bridges so that you can use wireless-only devices on their network. Maybe they have one available? Then again, now that I think about it, maybe not. I'm thinking of the other way around where you don't have WiFi in your laptop and they only have WiFi, not ethernet connections. Nevermind. It's late...

I *think* this might work.....
Eithernet-to-USB cable
(http://www.ipenabled.com/netusb.html)
Then patch to a female-female USB coupler (http://www.revealcable.co.uk/acatalog/info_1_AA1582.html)
Then connect that to your normal PC sync cable.
Eithernet at one end, microUSB at the other.

The USB on the Kaiser doesn't work that way. It can act like a client (think ext. hard drive) but not a host (your PC). It's the same reason you can't connect an external hard drive to your phone.

I use the 3COM Travel Router (3CRTV10075/WL-534) as its a small portable router with NAT and Firewall (stops others in the hotel from seeing your devices). It can be configured as Router, AP or Client so that in AP mode it will connect directly to the Ethernet connection in a hotel room and you have access for both your phone and laptop.

It's a shame the USB port won't work for an Internet connection. Has anyone ever tried just in case?
I guess it's a travel router then, I'll go with the 3Com unless anyone can confirm they have used the tiny Netgear WGR101 successfully.

Is the microSD conector I/O capable?? If so, we can plug there normal ethernet card....

[Q] Cat 5 connection? When no wifi

Probably a dumb question but can we connect the NC to a fixed line (Cat 5) internet connection. Sometimes no wifi but a wire connection is available.
Of course would need some type of USB to Cat 5 connector.
Does such a thing exist?

I don't know if you'll find what you're looking for, but i'm not ruling out the option.
Meantime, if you can access a cat5 line, and you're looking at buying hardware anyway, why not get a wireless access point?
(I am curious to see if you can do what you are asking, and I don't want this thread to die on the 'get an access point' cop out)

I have a motorhome sitting beside my house and cannot get a wifi signal so I ran a cat5 cable out there to a cradelpoint wifi unit so I now have wifi through the coach.

Assuming a driver is available in the kernel for the Ethernet chipset in question, you *might* be able to use something like the Wii USB-to-Ethernet adapter combined with a USB type converter. I've no idea at all what it will do to the normal network stack, but it's _theoretically_ possible.

FWIW, I've seen some no-name Android tablets that have a dongle which provides USB ports and an RJ45 jack for a wired ethernet connection.. Does kinda defeat the purpose of a tablet though..

Not at all, it would be great to be able to use my Nook to configure Routers and program firmware, maybe even to use the Nook for some tethering. I would be able to finally get rid of my battery sucking, heat factory of a UMPC.
If anyone finds a way to get a usb Ethernet adapter working with the Nook please so share.

Didn't even think about it that way.
I know they got Ubuntu running on the NC (Not sure how well). Surely there is a wired usb nic that supports Ubuntu. I'm thinking that might be the best way.
I just bought my NC, should be here in a few days. I might just have to play with this..

What about Dalingrin's Nook Tweeks app? Using 'USB Settings > USB Host Mode' can we possibly attach a USB NIC?
I have not played with the USB Host Mode just yet, but I know I got excited when I saw it

Not too sure if I understood correctly your current setup, hopefully I won't recommend you something you have already done/thought about.
For the moment, a quick an easy way would be to plug a wireless router at the end of the network cable and then setup the wireless network. You could then connect to that wireless router with your nook.
Basically, it would look like this (inline text doesn't make a good illustration, but it's better than nothing)...
Router 1 ------(network cable)---------Router 2)))))))(wifi wave)))))))Nook
Sure you will need to setup the router correctly, but it's still very easy to do.

My first post after reading for a long time.
(Quick question)
Im wondering if anyone has or knows if its not possible to connect an AP or a wifi router to the Turbo through using the USB port?

My family has a condo at the beach and previously to owning my Turbo I used FoxFi full version to broadcast a wifi network for Netflix, my iPad, the Wife's iPad, etc. While not all at once this worked pretty well and saved the expense of purchasing access to the building wifi.
As you all know Foxfi wont work on the Turbo. But supposedly it still works via tether through the usb port. I work in IT so I was thinking, why not connect a driverless OTG so I could patch that to an AP or a older Netgear router that I have. Was thinking I would just plug the patch from the OTG to the "internet" port on the router and let everything connect to that.
While I know this is not a desireable solution, its one that would work for my one situation until someone figures out how to root the Turbo.
Thoughts?

I'm not so sure if that would work but I know PdaNet/foxfi has a feature that turns your laptop into a hotspot. I've tried using it and it's rather hit or miss but I think that's because of my laptop. It would atleast be worth a shot. It's called "wifi share" and can be found in the menu that you use to connect to your phone on your laptop.

Interesting. My theory was more like use a USB to Micro usb adapter to plug into a driverless USB to ethernet adapter. Then plug a patch cable from that into the "internet" port of a home wifi router. After that turn on FoxFi and use it via the USB tethering option.
Again I understand this is not a portable option, nor as simple as turning your phone into an AP at the click of a button. But for my next beach trip this would be pretty handy.
Before I buy the ethernet adapter, does anyone know if the USB tether to the router idea would work?

From what I know for any kind of internet sharing apps such as foxfi, you need the app or program on both the turbo and the receiving device. Those types of apps dont actually share internet to the device directly but through the connected apps. Think of it like cable in your house. You need the modem or receiver to translate the signal to watch it in your house. I would love this to work but I don't think it will.

Enable AX88772 CHIP SET on Android 7.0

I am not a developer but hope to get some support here as samsung has not been a big help so far.
Before updating Android versions my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T713 would connect to Ethernet via the plugable USB 2.0 OTG Micro-B adapter.
It seems that the specific chipset used by the adapter is no longer enabled on this specific device, while I am told it is still included in all Android version 4 and up.
So my question is how can I enable the AX88772 CHIP SET in order to regain ethernet connectivity.
I tried going into dev mode and selecting "RNDIS Ethernet" in the USB configuration but that did not do anything.
Another issue possibly related is that when connecting the tablet to a Win 10 laptop it is not recognized. Here I tried many solutions including installing the media pack and other options available. No success. If this is an unrelated problem then I will post this secondary issue in another post.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we live in a house without wifi on purpose. My wife get's immediate headaches and body pains when she is exposed to a direct signal. After having been removed from it for several years in our house I feel the same way when it is on. Our house is wired and we use both ethernet over power or ethernet over coax depending on what room we are in. The last one works beautifully.

Question USB RJ45 Adapter

Hello everyone,
Im trying to connect my phone (redmi note 10 pro MFF edition (europe)) with a rj45 cable to avoid wifi signal in my house. In my old samsung its connected directly, but with the xiaomi nothing happen, I dont find the option for ethernet neither.
Did any one try this ? Its just a software problem ( MIUI system) or more hardware. Since im still waiting to unlock my bootloader, Cannot try with a custom room to see if the problem persevere.

I do not have the Redmi Note 10 Pro, but some general questions:
1. Did you disable Wifi and enable Airplane mode?
2. Which adapter did you use?

I disabled the wifi and enable the airplane mode, but nothing change.

The issue is that in miui we dont have any ethernet interface to configurate the dhcp or other stuff.

I thought the issue was that you had no connection. I have no idea about the MiUI. So if the issue is that you get no connection these might be some obstacles:
I found a discussion (for the Redmi Note 8/Pro/8T) on the mi forum (https://c.mi.com/thread-3003395-3-1.html) where a person describes that he thinks the issue might be the chipset. Your ethernet adapter uses the 8152B chipset, but he says that it seems like you would need an adapter with a AX88179 chipset. An ethernet adapter that supports the AX88179 chipset is the https://plugable.com/products/usbc-e1000/.
Another user in the same discussion says that it works for him with the j5create adapter (https://c.mi.com/oc/thread-3003395-1-0.html), although he states that nothing indicates that he is connected. (For some reason I didn't find any information on their website about what chipset their adapter uses, so we don't know for sure if the chipset is the issue.)
But let me re-emphasize that I do not know whether that really is the issue or whether it works with one of these adapter. So be aware of that.

I think its myabe a doubel raison : first hardware and secone software.
I get the same issue with my mibox 3, she dont regonis all the usb rj45 adapter, only the ugreen worked and another 2$ adapter that I get from discountshop.
the software raison is the only part that we can modify easly, I know that xiaomi reduce alot of option from android to optimise the battery or to not show that the chipset used is very powerfull for some specific utilisation. nad since the chipset used for wifi and BT probably is the same that manage the ethernet.
The xiaomi coast cheap, Its's normal that they bypass some non essentiel used option. More, i think if it's a option htaht only less than 5% of people use, they will supress it from miui to save and manage the battery.
Anyway, Now im back to samsung, no more xiaomi for me

Seems like it really is the chipset, since the ugreen adapter uses the AX88179 chipset. And apparently it works with your MiBox 3. So I guess it really is your ethernet adapter and not the software, although I can’t say for sure.

In this case, we will get at least the ethernet configuration but disabled. in MIUI we dont have any ethernet parameter. The software has a part of the problem

Yeah, seems like MiUI has no configuration options for Ethernet.
