4g/LTE is for data, during the call it must switch to 3g (it couldn't, if 4g only is forced).
When you change to default, connection icon (or apps like NetMonster, Net monitor lite or Network cell info lite) should show that 4g switches to 3g

Is it normal to have a better signal when on a call than when not? I noticed that when I'm on a call my signal is green but otherwise isn't. Here's a pic, all the green here is when I'm on a call.

Just a guess, but do you have a much stronger 3G signal than LTE? Maybe you're seeing your LTE signal most of the time, and just your 3G signal when you're on the phone.
I would guess that the power to the amplifiers is increased when they are needed and backed off when not needed.

So I know this is an ongoing thing and some people claimed to have solutions online but this is still happening on my wife's Moto G.
In this screen shot, even with the ! on both WiFi and Cellular, I clearly have an internet connection judging by the speedtest going.
I noticed this with my current provider (H20) and with my previous (Straight Talk). My only concern is that it will eat up data when the ! is only on the WiFi. We only have a 500MB plan on H20 and I don't want to go over.

As per the subject: is there any icon or any way to let you know that a call is being made with wi-fi calling? Samsung phones have an icon (the one to the left of the wifi icon below) but I couldn't find anything similar on my P20 pro. Yet I am sure wifi calling works because I can make calls in underground train stations, where I have wifi but no mobile signal.
Thanks!

Just got an X60 Pro+ with Origin OS, using it in the US. Data works fine, (including 5G) texting works fine, but I can't connect to phone calls. If I try to call someone it automatically says call ended. I've tweaked some network settings and tried both SIM1 and SIM2 slots. Any ideas? TIA
The image below shows when I try to access any call settings.
