Find my device of Google on Tencent version not working - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Hello guys
I just got the Tencent Edition 8/128GB and used the original CN rom (Updated CN_16.0631.1908.12_0). Most of the features seem to function properly until I found that the device location cant be tracked. I turned on location services as well as Find My Device in Security Settings and still, the location is unavailable when I try to connect to my device on web application.
Does anyone face the same issue and have a fix for this? This feature is really important to me since it helps to erase personal sensitive data if the phone is lost.

i dont have any issue. may be wipe your phone after flash the WW rom

The google services might have some issues with roms meant for mainland china. You should look into flashing another ROM if possible or fiddle with the play services and make sure all permissions are correct.

I got the same issue and have a fix to locate the device. You need to turn on Google Location Accuracy so that it can track the phone through web application. However, I cant find a way to remotely erase data even though 'Find My Devices' is turned on in Device admin apps

[Q] Network/Cell Location not working

I have a Razr i on Orange UK, and have found that apps that use the network/cell location (instead of Wifi or GPS) don't work. I've tested this with various apps, but the problem can be seen with Google Maps:
- Disable GPS and Wifi in settings
- Tap location crosshairs and wait
- A 'waiting for location' message will appear, followed a few seconds later by 'your current location is temporarily unavailable'
I'm not sure if this is an issue with my provider (Orange) or with the phone itself. Can anyone else reproduce this issue?
I have the same issue here in Brazil with my provider (Claro).
My other 2 phones can find the location using the network, with a precision of about 1km, but RAZR i doesn't even "try" to find it. I receive the same message as you using Maps. One of that other 2 phones is a Motorola Spice XT300 (using Android 2.1 at the same provider), so this issue may be especific for this device or for the newest versions of Android.
I would like to use the location based on the network to activate wifi and other tasks with the SmartActions (without GPS, wifi and bluetooth to save battery), if somebody knows a way to make this work, I would be very thankful too.
I can try this later today on my father's Galaxy SII (using ICS too), and will post here the result if anyone doesn't post it before me.
EDIT: I tested it again, and it works! Maps could find my location with a good precision (better than 100m) only using the 3G network. By the way, the SII can do this too. I don't know why it works now, but maybe with a 2G network the device can't find the location.
I found a fix for a similar sounding issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9576852&postcount=108 However that fix requires root access which I'm not currently willing to try on my new Razr i.
After reading that link, I did manage to fix it for now by going to Settings > Apps > All > Google Services Framework and pressing the Clear Data button. I was prompted again to enabled Location Services. I then rebooted my phone. After a reboot the Play Store didn't work at first, but it sorted itself out after a few minutes.
I'll say that this is fixed 'for now'... some other threads discussing similar problems show that such fixes sometimes stop working after a period of time.

[Q] Unrecorded 100KB mobile data traffic every 10 minutes -

I got a new XT1068 (dual-SIM unlocked) last week. It came with Android 5.0.2 out of the box and hasn't been updated yet.
My mobile data plan starts on the 1st of every month and I get 500MB. I don't browse much on mobile data so I keep it on all the time for push updates and such.
The other day (the 8th) I got a text from my carrier saying I used all the data. This had never happened before on any phone or any carrier I've used.
I went to the carriers website to check my account and it shows mobile data traffic in bursts of 100KB approximately every 10 minutes right up until they cut my access, because I reached the cap.
The odd thing is under "Data usage" I don't see any of these bursts.
A friend of mine had the exact same problem (same model and same carrier) and his solution was to do a Factory Restore. I want to find a better solution, because the phone just came from the factory.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. I really like all the Google Now stuff, so I won't disable location, but I will look at Greeneefy.
I managed to find some concrete information on this here. The proposed solution was to change the APN settings to not include supl (Secure User Plane Location). Apparently that has to do with A-GPS and uses very little data, but I'm unlucky enough that my carrier deducts 100KB for every connection.
I applied the fix, but since I'm out of data, I can only know if it worked next month. I will report back.

If this fix doesn't work I guess that's the only option. That would probably mess with location, wouldn't it?

I don't think so, when the phone needs to know where it is, it triangulates its position between cell towers (with no actual data being used) plus GPS and plus WiFi if connected. You can try it and see if it works.

OK. It should still mess with some other things, I suspect.
I'll see if this SUPL thing works and if not I'll look into other options. Truth is that issue explains the frequent data use and the fact that it isn't reported under Data usage, so I really think that might be it.

Yes Sir that's right the phone don't need internet connection to know it's location but if Google reporting is enabled is will connect to send it's location to Google servers I think it will help disabling location reporting also battery is improved a lot

I see. I'm happy with the battery life so far and I find Google's services very useful, so I'll leave it on for now. If the same problem turns up, I'll really have no choice but to turn it off.

Problem accessing Youtube and Play Store

Hi, I desperately need some support as my device refuses to sign in in both Youtube and Play Store. I'm therefore unable to use both these apps. An error message keeps saying I'm offline and proposes to retry, but it simply never works whatever I do.
Issue has been going on since many weeks; I googles and tried many suggestions without any success.
Before I do a hard reset, has anyone an idea what this can be?
The amazing part is that my daughter's tab (Galaxy S2) is also having the same issue since some time! She has her own google account. What the heck is going on?
Thanks!

This may be an bug in the updated version of google play store or YouTube..Have you tried to sign in specific apps usning another google account you have..Also try to clear cached data of phone as well as clear data of those apps* you can also uninstall updates of those apps and force stop or disable them and after enabling again try to access*..Also might be network related issue sometimes weaken network shows such type of errors..Try to acees with high speed wifi or data with maximum signal..Even if problem exist then simply reset is last option for you..

Hi, I tried most of the solutions you're are mentioning, without any success. What I find interesting is what you wrote about weak network. I cancelled my cable connection at home some time back and using instead a 4G modem. Could that really be the culprit, knowing the coverage is medium? It sounds to me strange that such possibility exists, also I often go out and have full 4G network for hours sometimes and still it doesn't work. Interestingly enough, every about once per month it suddenly works, and I'm able to update my apps and also access my account in Youtube. It'll work for 2-3 days, until it's again the same bad. Really boring and would love to understand this issue better so as to possibly fix it. Thank you.

1)It's possible sometimes your networks proxy enforce your google id not to be sign in into specific apps you have mentioned and yes sometimes low network coverage also causes the issues like offline or sign in errors like please check network connection due wireless functionality limitations
2)I am curious about one thing if you have tried almost all the solutions found on google as well as your own, is it that much impossible for you to make backup of your current imp data and give a try to hard reset?? If i am not wrong, please give it a try because sometimes software glitches also causes the app crashes or network errors
3) Next thing sometimes your stock software gets corrupted due to some fatal malwares so many system apps as well as third party apps pretended to show errors like unfortunately process is stopped also some network related issue, so one solution you can try is to re-apply or update your current stock firmware..i.e. if update is unavailable you can fresh install same firmware version again on your phone which most of the times resolves the issue
4) As i mentioned in my first post you should give a try to any high speed mobile network like LTE or 5ghz band Wi-Fi which gives constant access to internet connection which probably help you to figure out exact issue i.e. with modems or connection your using or with your device itseld due to corrupted software
5)Please mention your device model no,country, your mobile network provider information so that it would be easy to figure out your issue
Thank you. Yes, a hard reset could solve it although I'd like to avoid it if possible. I will try ASAP on a solid wifi and see. I forgot to mention an important point: my daughter's tablet (Galaxy S2 pro) has got the same issue, and it started near about the same time like it did to me. She has her own Google ID, and she uses a different set of apps. Will report whenever I can test on a wifi.
My mobile provider is Salt Mobile here in Switzerland, and my Note 5 is a generic one bought in UAE. I run Dr. Ketan rom of about 8 months ago.

1)Ohhhk now i got, i assume you might be using Indian Variant with indian mobile network providers as per your username 'prerna'
so your device might be factory unlocked SM-N920C
2)So you should try on any faster network provider or incase wifi to check if problem is due to weak singal strength or specific with your device software integration
3) And i think you should give a try to dr.ketan's nougat rom which is based on latest nougat firmware which will might help you to overcome your issue as new base, new kernel will help you to get stable connectivity
4)If your running dr.ketans MM 6.0.1 based rom then download latest N5 nougat rom to flash
5)I know u might not new in flashing custom roms ad your running a custom one only from 8 months but once again be sure to enable 'oem unlocking' and 'usb debugging' options from developers option before flashing latest twrp version(Don't worry u can flash dr.ketans rom using any 3.0 twrp version ur running now but if latest version with stability and improvements available for your device then you can install it as per your requirement) if your running old one or before flashing nougat based N5 rom by dr.ketan

ROG II & Google Drive Issues

Not sure if this has been discussed yet or not, but I`ve had issues running Google Drive on both the Tencent and Global Elite variant. With a little reseach I discovered that only after removing all security lock pins, face data and fingerprints will Google Drive successfully backup device. I can`t say for certain that this is a direct issue with Google Drive or not. But I believe the problem is within the internal locks associated with the ROG 2. and hoepfully Asus will rectify this in a future update
I have not experienced any issues with global version. My data backed up with no issues or removing security features. That is interesting that this has happened to someone.

Question 11T Pro - LockScreen Pattern - Not recognized

Hi everyone,
so my issue is simple, yet I don't know what to actually do.
After a recent update via Google Play of some applications (i think that's the main problem), my draw pattern (a correct one) is not recognized by the phone anymore. Whatever I do, my Lock Screen doesn't recognize my correct pattern and lock itself from 10 seconds to 5 minutes depending on how many times I've tried to open it. Even my fingerprint is not recognized (altough as far as I remember, it never is when my phone boots for the 1st time, as pattern must be validated first).
My phone becomes unusable, as it can't unlock. The only 2 options I have are "Emergency call" or "Forgotten password". The latter option just says I have to Wipe Data Format which is not an option for me, as I have important things on my phone.
What solution could I apply, so I can unlock my phone WITHOUT having to delete my data :/
Important to note:
- It's not a problem from screen protector (I've removed it..)
- Generally I was using the option for invisible draw pattern, thus no one sees what I draw as extra protection (maybe it could be part of the problem now after some updates of random apps).. but obviously is working
- My SIM code is still accepted and it's fine, so not everything was Reset for whatever reason, as it's not 0000..
- My phone is updated to the absolute latest version available via OTA and nothing else was added or done
- I didn't use 3rd party Lock Screen other than the one included with the Xiaomi 11T Pro from the system
- I was using Bitdefender (which was not updated when the problem occured), which has the option to randomize pin for applications only (not pattern)
- I've also made the battery drop and the phone to turn-off and left it like that for 2 days to see if it will somehow reset/remember my pattern, but nothing..
I read so many guides online from Google and all seem are promoting some sketchy software which I dont want to risk with unless it's 100%.

Well, I see no other reason for this to happen. Doubt someone hacked me, altough at that time I was using Public wifi in a hotel. It can't be Bitdefender as well I think to scramble my pattern and I've remotely removed it. I've read that maybe if in my pocket the wrong pattern was entered by accident many times, that it will reset, but it makes no sense to me. I'm using latest versions of MIUI and standard apps (not using any unknown ones), everything is from Play Store, as I really can't imagine what issue could be, but for sure I would like to enter without deleting my data :/
Never seen or had this problem and it may be Bitdefender that caused this problem.

I was thinking the same, but remembered that LockScreen for Bitdefender was disabled way before that. It was not working for the official Xiaomi LockScreen to scramble anything (especially pattern) as I choose which apps to lock and it was not working on it. It does it only for applications which I've selected and with pin numbers :/ Also I've remotely removed the app support via their Center which means that even if that was the problem (for some unknown reason turned ON lets say), it should not be valid now. Also it was not updated via the last moment I had it working , so for sure it's not this the problem unless someone hacked Bitdefender via my profile, which should be valid also for my 2nd Xiaomi phone, but there I have no problem and it seems very unrealistic scenario for me :/ Also if it was true, they can't change my pattern or pin via website. Problem is somewhere else, as I remember, most were some Google and Xiaomi apps that got updated which I even usually don't use like Auto. I really look for some way to unlock it or somehow make my phone "remember" the correct invisible pattern :/ of course to delete everything would be most easy but that should be last last resort for me :/

Is your bootloader unlocked? If yes, try boot a twrp a12/a13 for 11t pro, see if you can retrieve your data using that.
If you're not unlocked, wipe/format data is your only option. Either from recovery or your google account

As far as I know it's not unlocked/rooted or anything as it's brand new phone I bought in November. So in such case, whatever I do or read from sketchy apps/websites/videos, I should not trust and it's 100% impossible to unlock it or recover my data in any way? In general I can open the notification to turn Wifi on/off, etc, but I can't view messages for example, so just very basic things

I am privacy concerned about Xiaomi in general, so that's why I try to minimize services used by it. I have the ability to locate and erase data with BitDefender and Google as well, but that's not an issue at the moment. I can do it, but won't do me any favor. Also Xiaomi Cloud is the last place probably someone would want his private information stored from the hundreds available free alternatives, also is limited to just 2 GB as far as I remember by before, which indeed is useful for SMS, but nothing else. I dont see a reason to use it , neither why would my phone do unnatural things. I worry that this issue will repeat, so yes, backup is always worth to have, but I couldn't imagine I will need it so soon and that it will be for such unlogical reason which none of us seem to know what's the problem which really frustrates me and makes me rethink in general the use of Xiaomi, as such random events happening should be a red flag

Hey, also on 11T Pro? And after update?? Do you remember last things that happened before it "forgot" the pattern? And was it also the invisible type of it? Tell more details, maybe we can get some common points and maybe some solution could be found hopefully :/
Yes on Xiaomi 11T Pro, received miui 14 a week ago. It just randomly happened yesterday as my fingerprint is not detected it asked me to draw the pattern. When I drew it doesn't allow me into phone even though the pattern is correct. For me the pattern is VISIBLE.
did you activate usb debugging? and at least once connected with your pc?
then you can get your files with XIAOMIADBFASTBOOTTOOLS.jar
that's the only option you have left before deleting everything on your phone.

Indeed, it is necessary to have activated the USB debugging and to have already used this program so that the authorization is granted.
Anyway, nothing about this program will remove security or be able to recover data.

Guys, do you think it's worth to wait for some "miracle" to happen? It seems it's some bug that happens to other people too and hopefully Xiaomi takes action. Maybe if I can get update in background, might get fixed without the need to Wipe data?
PS: I did use before USB Debugging, but from the Settings. I dont know how to turn it remotely from the computer. I also have installed ADB, but I'm not sure how to debug it as it doesn't detect my phone now :/ The XIAOMIADBFASTBOOTTOOLS.jar I havent used.
