Hello everyone,
A few days ago I bought a second hand note 8 (SM-N950F (Exynos)) The phone was working pefertly until I messed it up! What happpened was I tried updating my phone manually through odin. The reason I tried this was because my device is running 7.1.1 (nougat) and I wanted to update to 8 (oreo) and not 9 (pie) for a few reasons. So I downloaded 8.0 from sammobile. Now a few things could of gone wrong here. First of all in odin I tried to flash the other CSC not the HOME CSC I don't know if this is what caused the problem. Secondly when choosing the country of the firmware (united kingdom) I had two options because my device is unlocked XEU or BTU I didn't think it would matter and I think I orginally downloaded BTU but I am not sure. Anyways fast forwarding to the flashing process and I add all the files to odin BL, AP CP, CSC. Auto reboot and F. Reset Time were ticked and I clicked start. Along the top with the big boxes I got a green box with 'PASS' my phone rebooted to screen that says 'samsung galaxy note 8' but in the top corner it shows a message that says ' KERNEL REV. CHECK FAIL Device:3 BINARY:1'. If my device is plugged in wall or laptop it goes into a boot-loop and if it isn't connected I see the message once and then my phone turns off. I have tried both install 7.1.1 and 8.0 several times with both the XEU and BTU versions but no success. Sometimes a 'PASS' in the first box , sometimes a fail. When I'm in download mode I noticed with the info about my phone I have 'CARRIER_ID: XEU' which is in red (thought that would be worth mentioning). To add to my problems I think my battery may be getting low but im not sure. When I try to charge it goes into a bootloop and im not sure if its charging so for the time being it is off.
Any advice would be appreciated, I not had this phone yet and I love it! I also cannot afford another one. That's why I bought myself a second hand one.
Thanks :

Got a new Galaxy S and I am trying to upgrade the firmware.
I have to say that this is all new to me...
At the moment it is a:
PDA: JF3
PHONE: JF3
Connecting the phone to Kies I got the message: "This device version cannot be upgraded" but, looking around on the net i found this procedure to work around that problem.
Going into the registry and change the Product Name last three digits (ORA, for Orange?) to XEU and tried again.
It worked, now version JM1 is available to download.
Download goes fine till the beginning of the Upgrade phase when i get the message: USB device not recognized, failed to convert into upgrade mode"
The screen on the phone stays with the working man but nothing is being upgraded till the moment when Kies asks me for firmware recovery. Unplugging the phone and restarting brings it back to its original state.
Any help on how to make the process work?
And, if the upgrade should stop half way, would the phone still working just unplugging it as i do when the upgrade has started at all?
Thank you
Hi all,
An unfortunate first post
I just converted from an iPhone to a Galaxy S I9000T (on Telecom New Zealand, 850Mhz) and wanted to get ahead to Android 2.2. After seeing many people doing it I felt pretty confidant
After reading a thread suggesting to go via JM8 to JPM I started down that route. I got to JM8 OK and the phone worked fine (made a call etc).
Then I went on to JPM which is where it all went bad. My network didn't work after this update so I wanted to go back to JM8 which at least worked (it was late at night).
I started the Odin3 flash but it hung. Then I find out that the JPM firmware seems to suffer from having the 3 button issue, not begin able to get to Download or Recovery modes.
When the phone powers on now it immediately goes to an black screen with an Orange Triangle in between phone and computer icons. I had seen that mode previously but was always able to get back to Download mode, but not anymore.
Is there anything I can do, or am I sheepishly visiting Samsung Service?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew
I got that thing too in my sgs and I got rid of it with... guess what.. Hairdryer! I just heated for 15sec from the backside without battery, sim card and microsd. After heatin' battery in and vol-,home+power and vóla! Download mode, ready to reflash! I've learned my lesson.. "read the instruction twice, before applying mod".
just reset the phone with odin
Use odin, put the phone in download mood by pressing vol down power and home button for three seconds, yhou should get to the download screen, plug the phone into the computer, select (Debug En) in odin and then select Phone EFS clear, press start and wait for your phone to reset. do not unplug until it says Pass.
Thanks for the post!
I can't get into Download Mode with the current firmware unfortunately. So, I waiting on a little circuit to arrive so I can try the 301k resister trick
Given my phone is the I9000T model and my carrier Telecom New Zealand (TNZ) use 850Mhz and 2100Mhz WCDMA what is the best combination (and latest Android 2.2) PDA, PHONE, CSC firmware to use?
Thanks a lot!
Hi fellow XDA members,
I own a Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920I) which was bought in Singapore under operator Starhub (STH). I happen to use this phone in India and I later realized the phone supports VoLTE but the firmware didn't so I stuck with using the Jio4GVoice app for a long time now and I'm done with it due to lot of bugs and call drops.
I looked online for solutions and found many that involved root or custom recovery to flash the so-called VoLTE fix. I have read articles that said the Indian firmware supports VoLTE so I So, I tried the following:
Download the Indian firmware and flashed via odin. But it fails with error specified file not found. Did a research and i unchecked the Re-partition and again tried and it fails at flashing system . So I re-flashed the STH firmware to get the phone boot up. I learnt that CSC is responsible for getting the region specific network to work.
Extract CSC from Indian firmware and simply flash it on odin. But, as articles say that I'll have 4 files for each boxes to place in odin I only had one tar (<firmware_HOME_tar.md5). Then I read, extracting the modem.bin file and ziping that to a tar file and flash it via odin will help. I tried that but no luck (should I factory reset it?).
Both the firmwares have a single file and articles say that there will be CSC_<firmware>.tar and CSC_HOME_<firmware>.tar.
I don't know where I'm getting wrong. Is this even possible or i'm simply wasting my time? I use samsung pay and S health extensively so I don't wanna trip knox.
Update:
I read that cache.img is CSC from here. So extracted the cache from Indian firmware and flashed that to my phone that has STH firmware. I used the Phone info app and found baseband has been changed and available CSC shows INS but active CSC is STH. Now I guess i just need to activate that CSC. I tried the steps mentioned here but it doesn't work.

here is another method you can try. but this only works if your phone supports it.
For firmware that uses a multi-csc code, you need to select a sales code before attempting to connect to a cellular network. This is especially true for 3G and 4G connections.
There are two ways to select a sales code:
1. Enter *#06# in the phone dialer to obtain the IMEI number for the device. You can then enter *#272*Device IMEI# to select a sales code. If your Samsung device does not return a menu, the product code is not a multi-csc code.
OR
2. Install an CSC changer app, such as the "Phone INFO" app. CSC changer apps do require root access, and they do not work on all phones and all versions of Android.
Hit thanks if it helps !
P.S. IT ONLY WORKS ON STOCK ROM ...! so you need to be on Stock Rom.

Thanks for your help. I tried solution 1 and it Worked
However, before trying out your solution, my device was in this state:
1. Flashed Singapore ROM
2. Extracted every file from Indian rom and repacked the tar except the system.img (as this was failing to flash in odin)
3. After booting I got a notification from SupportAgent telling me that unauthorized changes have been made, tap here to reboot to undo those changes
4. I then read your solution and updated the CSC to INS from STH. And device got factory reset and for the first time I saw VoLTE logo on my phone :victory:
5. I finished the setup and still getting the same error in notification from SupportAgent. So I tapped on it, and device rebooted to a new blue screen with sim card logo on it and then boot up to system.
6. Now, in the quick settings, VoLTE toggle is gone and I got WiFi Calling toggle instead. However I still have the VoLTE icon on the status bar.
7. So later that day, I redo all the steps.
- Flashed Singapore firmware (This time, the CSC Country was Singapore and the active CSC was XTH instead of STH. There was VoLTE toggle)
- Flashed Cache from Indian Firmware (CSC Country changed to India the active CSC was INS automatically. Now got WiFi Calling toggle)
8. I noticed other changes in the software:
- The gallery App doesn't show Grid view so I'm stuck with List view
- The Samsung Pay says, its not supported for this device
What do you think about this?

are you still able to use voLTE ?? after these steps.
about Support agent. Ignore it if you can. or skip it. you do not need this as there aren't any official updates after this. (this is only because now system knows that you have modified it, and it will not receive any update. if you can the disable the Support agent app via settings or if possible via root.)
samsung pay will Not work. as knox should have been tripped to 0x1, so Samsung pay like apps will NEVER work after knox trip.

I have a Note 9 SM-N960F/DS model. I bought it from KSA (Saudi Arabia). The phone came with Android Pie (9) out of the box.
Unfortunately my friend rooted my phone and now i am running on "N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA/N960FXXU3ASF1" version with "Security patch level: 1 June 2019". I am unable to use my Samsung account and all the security features (finger print, Ratina scanner, Face recognition etc).
When i switch back to original firmware i.e
PDA N960FXXU3CSG1
CSC N960FOXM3CSG1
i got all the features functioning but my SIM card shows "Emergency calls only".
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, My friend took my phone and told me that he will make it compliant with our local network and make it approved from the Telecommunication authority.
He has downgraded the phone with older firmware version i.e N960FXXU3CSFA/N960FOXM3CSFA,N960FXXU3ASF1. The security patch level is 1 June 2019
I have checked the Knox e-fuse which is not tripped which means its an official ROM and not altered.
Now, i have the latest firmware version downloaded i.e N960FXXS3CSG1 but when i try to install it in my phone it does not recognize my SIM card and phone is in "Emergency calls Only" state.

not sure how you check knox but if he really rooted then its too late and knox cannot state cant be reverted.
typically checking via software is not a good method . going to download mode and checking warranty state 0x0 means is not tripped. anything different means it been tripped/blown.
anyways that dosen't make you phone have no signal though.
i suspect he screwed up the twrp recovery flash procedure for twrp and botched the flash back to stock via odin.
read up on odin and how to use it. get latest version.(search and read)
read up so on how to get latest firmware for your phone and which csc your carrier is so that you can download the correct firmware and have best results for your sim carrier.( in doubt try BTU csc firmware)(but search and read about the subject of phone types firmwares and CSC)
also the firmwares your quoted seem old. not sure why you ended up using it but you should get one that is from july.
E.G.:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960F/BTU/
(get the most recent! july 25th)( u can dl odin from there too)
on your PC, install samsung android drivers or simply install samsung smart switch. it will install the necessary components.
in it self smart switch can flash firmware automatically for your device. so you might want to try it first.
if you go towards the odin flash route and found the correct firmware or want to try BTU multi csc as suggested above:
put phone in download mode and unzip on PC firmware and flash with odin BL,AP,CP and CSC. But for csc choose csc.md5 instead of home_csc.md5
(be patient while AP is being checked before adding cp and csc)
edit: details steps on odin flashing procedure below

last but not least don't listen to your friend or let him close to your phone again. reading and searching on xda is much better. everything has been already asked. you just need to search for it.

I haven't try SmartSwitch for N9 but worth to try as it should be able to detect proper csc for your phone.
Else find the latest firmware for your phone with Frija/Samfirm then flash with odin.

well may be your friend tried to change IMEI of phone which is illegal in any country. Match your IMEI with box by dialing *#06#, if IMEI are same then no need to worry. you need to register your phone IMEI with PTA by paying tax. after paying tax they will whitelist the IMEI of your phone and you will be able to make calls.
just for information, my note 9 is also brought from Saudi Arabia, but at that time one device was free, so i got my phone registered by providing my travel details to PTA and they whitelisted my phone.
Please guide me solution.

MY skill with Android flashing: 3/10
Phone Problem: Boots to the very first screen with the phone model and then turns off itself, vibrates, and relaunches..... (repeat repeat). It did use to reach the Samsung screen before my (what I thought was) successful FW flash!
Hey, so im having a mare trying to flash some firmware on my friends Note 8 using Odin3 and pretty much guessing at firmware to fix this phone. I downloaded the latest version that seems to be available.
The phone Model number is not known exactly but its a single sim, UK spec (Carrier: 02) so am assuming it is the SM-N950F
Im slowly downloading fw files to try and get this phone to reboot - but no such luck! is there anyone with enough patience to try and help me install the "correct" firmwares?
I tried with my first attempt and it fails in odin with a message: SW Check boot loader 14 binary 13 (or something along those lines - which I tried a search for here in the forums and was something to do with the compatibility of the bl and fw not being correct)
My second attempt was a success through Odin (Cleared and Pass!) but now it only gets to the very first screen and reboot loops straight away without getting to the Samsung screen.... so not really a success my end!
Can anyone help a Android noob?
Not looking to keep any data what so ever Just want a full factory reset.
Phone last worked properly on 23/24th December last year and my friend hasn't bothered with it since when it bricked.

Hey bro I am not a pro either at this but doing this since quite a time now,
Your first attempt failed because you tried to install an older version of android whereas your device had a newer version installed previously....SAMSUCK does not allows you to downgrade your android model...
Your second attempt resulted in a bootloop , I will suggest you to reboot the phone into recovery and format it once, it might work.....

Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
reboot system now
still stuck in boot loop (1st power on screen)

It should boot after flashing that, it could be a hardware problem preventing a successful boot :-( Probably worth trying different filmware though, you could try BTU (UK) or XEU (UK & Ireland)
Bro i will advice you to just get over this stock rom and install some custom rom.
You can install a custom recovery like twrp through odin and then using that recovery install some custom rom made for your device.
All these you might find in your device's xda forum.
Brp i just checked and found that galaxy note 8 has plethora of custom roms available just install the one which you like.
You can see the installation process on youtube.
