how to flash to factory rom? - Xiaomi Mi CC9 / Mi 9 Lite Questions & Answers

hello: this maybe a newbie question, but how do you flash back to the factory rom in case I bork the custom rom install? With factory recovery of course.
I imagine there must be an official way to flash back the rom, but I downloaded a PC suite tool from miui.com, and it wouldn't read my CC9 when connected. Weird.
I also found online that there's a chinese version and a global version of the CC9 official MIUI rom. What's the global version? Was it meant for Mi9 Lite?
Thanks for any input.

If you unlocked bootloader ,then you can flash old ROMs. Otherwise you can't.

I unlocked it. But i dont know what the official method/software is for flashing back to factory spec. I now have twrp and xiaomi.eu and just want to know how to get back to factory rom and recovery. Tks

Download mi flash tool or flash tool pro.
Now install them and driver also.
Download mi cc 9 latest fastoot rom
Unzipped the rom.
Now open mi flash tool and load the unzipped folder
Turn off your device and press power + volume down for bootloader.
Now connect via usb cable.
Click on flah botton and wait until 100% complete.
Your device will be on after successfully flashed

when do i need an unlocked bootloader & flashing methodes

i'm little bit confused about unlocking the bootloader on an mi5 device. I read somewhere that it's not needed if you use the updater app on the phone. i think this is only true for official rom's which came from en.miui.com it self?
can i use the updater app if i want to install the official en.miui.com 8 global rom without unlocking the bootloader?
if i want to install an xiaomi.eu rom, i will have to unlock the bootloader first?
does root on an official rom need an unlocked bootloader too?
there are more then one way to flash an rom on an mi5 device, updater app, fastboot and miflash tool, twrp(which is not preinstalled i mean?). but i read something about an edl mode, but cant find out what this does mean? is this maybe the fastboot and miflash tool mode?
many thanks!
best regards
adnan
Hello there,
what ROM are you running currently? Broadly speaking, you have 2 tools to change the ROM on Your device: the updater app and Fastboot (miflash uses fastboot too, and twrp requires fastboot to be installed). The updater app allows you only to upgrade your current ROM to the newest version. Fastboot (and the related tools) allow you to change ROM completely (e.g. switching from China Stable to China Dev or from China Stable to Global Stable or from China Stable to miui.eu Stable), and will also allow you to root your device through TWRP. To use fastboot, however, you will need to unlock Your bootloader.
Regarding EDL mode, it is the Miui stock recovery mode, which can be used together with the Xiaomi desktop application to flash new ROMs. It is not a widely used method, because the desktop app is quite buggy.
hello
many thanks for your replay.. i'm currently on miui 8, the global alpha version, so i already do an flash.. your answer is toop, again thanks for that!! but there are some new questions, edl is the miui stock recovery mode, does this mean the recovery as i know it already in a form from recovery.img? if i also want root i will have to flash twrp, this would then mean that the miui stock recovery (edl) wouldn't work anymore? so if i want to go back to an official global rom, do i need to flash the stock miui recovery first? the way to do that would be through fastboot? where can i get the stock miui recovery?
have an nice day!

Mi Mix 2 official global developer rom available

Official global rom is available for Xiaomi mi mix 2, even if it's not listed on the miui website yet.
This is the download link: http://bigota.d.miui.com/7.9.21/miui_MIMIX2Global_7.9.21_7f94ca393f_7.1.zip
This is the recovery version, fastboot version is not out yet, so there are only two ways to install it:
Method 1 (works on both locked and unlocked bootloaders):
- Download the rom on your pc
- Download and install my tool on your pc: www.xiaomitool.com/latest (read more about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/tool-xiaomitool-xiaomi-rom-changing-easy-t3627081 )
- Plug your device to your pc, launch the tool and use it until you reach the rom selection view
- Select "show advanced options", then "Official Miui rom (.zip)" and then select the file of the rom you have downloaded before
- The tool will install it automatically
Method 2 (works only on unlocked bootloaders):
- Download the rom and supersu zip on your device
- Install twrp to your device
- Install the rom file through twrp
- Patch the rom by flashing supersu
PLEASE NOTICE: if you use this method dont update your device because this will soft brick it. You need to flash manually from twrp the rom and supersu if you want to do that. This method is for those who want to try the rom, not to keep for a long term. If you want to keep the rom, use method 1 or wait for fastboot rom.
FAQs:
Q: This link is official and how did you get it?
A: It's official (just look at the download url) and I have it by emulating an ota update call
Q: Have you tried installing it on your device?
A: I have not mi mix 2 so no
Q: This may brick my device?
A: It may brick it, I have not tried yet. This is to tell you to do on your own risk, I'm not responsible
Q: Why I have to flash SuperSU?
A: Official rom are not compatible with twrp natively, your device will not boot if you don't flash supersu.
Q: What is the difference with your tool?
A: My tool uses stock recovery to flash official roms, so there is no need to unlock bootloader to install twrp, neither to flash supersu
Q: This method(s) doesn't work!
A: Ok, sorry to hear that, leave your feedback. This methods are not tested yet with mi mix 2, so there is the chance they might not work. Just leave both positive and negative feedback about it.

Works for you ? And which option did you choose .. And did you do anything before ?
Didn't work for me, see my previous post
Hi vic20nl,
So you continued but had no luck ?
Or did you abandoned the flashing ?
If you decided not to proceed, I might say that installing a custom recovery is an easy thing.
And I cannot recommend too much to install such a custom ROM as it will allow a lot of things, especially to back-up before installing a new ROM or to install a custom ROM like Mokee or EPIC ROM.
Regards.
Heading has come up on the MIUI ROM download page for the Mi MIX 2 Global, so it should not be long for an official ROM
Stable ROM available
It's up for download

Yeah just noticed that. Shame it's still miui 8 not miui 9.
Maybe soon for miui 9 global.
Did somebody manage to flash the developer ROM (that is what is what mentioned in first post) as that is suppose to be MIUI 9?

Yes, I did. You need to use fastboot.
Hello Guys!
First at all, thank you @franztesca for your great work on the flashing tool and bring us early the Global Dev Rom for Mi MIX 2.
I would like to ask and/or bring in this discussion here an other aspect to flash the Global Dev.
First an unlocked bootloader is requiered. I used this method at another Xiaomi, the Xiaomi Mi 5.
I am actually on the Xiaomi.eu Rom and i would like to change to the Global Dev. My bootloader is open. I flashed the Xiaomi.eu Rom with TWRP, but i dont install TWRP, i just boot into TWRP by using the commend : "fastboot boot twrp.img", just booted not flashed! After the boot i flashed the Rom via ADB Sideload an performe a Data Rest befor.
In this case i am able to keep the original Recovery, but i could also have an Custom Rom.
Now i want to change my Rom again, to your brought Global DEV.
Iam loking and asking me, how could i flash it the easyest Way, without loosing any Data and of course without any Bootloops and with regular Updates for the future.
So i think you musst Add a Variant Number 3, please correct my if iam wrong, but for me it is the easyest way with an unlocked Bootloader.
1. Download Rom and TWRP
2. Set Mi MIX 2 in Fastboot Mode
3. Boot via Fastboot iside TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img"
4. Flash the Rom an reboot
Now you have Global Rom with offical Recovery for futher upadates!
Greetz
Thanks, I cannot do it via the updater app from Xiaomi by coying the zip file to the device and then choose the package in the updater?

You can't go from the China ROM to the Global ROM via the updater app. You'll have to use fastboot/Mi Flash.

So if I get it right:
- Unlock your bootloader trough a Xiaomi website and wait for an sms.
- Use fastboot to flash the global rom. (Do I need to wipe before using the Mi tool to flash?)

I didn't have to go through getting permission, my account already had it from previous Xiaomi devices. If you haven't yet, then yeah wait to get permission.
Mi Flash gives you the option to relock the bootloader upon flashing or not. There is also an option to keep data, but I would advise not doing that when switching to the Global ROM.
Also, after getting permission to unlock your bootloader, if you relock it again, you can always use the Mi Unlock tool to unlock it as much as you want since you already got permission to do so. When I had the Mi5, I can't even count how many times I unlocked/relocked the bootloader.

Once re-locked can you use banking apps etc?
Wrong recovery
When I try with method 1, he tells me I got the wrong recovery. Bootloader is open ..

miflash success very fast but doesn't actually flash

Hi All, it's time i clean up my K20 Pro as i have upgraded to a F2 Pro.
The K20 Pro has MIUI 10.3.17 CN ROM from about 10 months ago, bootloader unlocked, magisk etc.
When trying to miflash it with a MIUI 12.0.5 CN latest fastboot rom in order to get back to factory, the progress bar completes in 1 second, and status is green and success, BUT the phone does not reboot itself. Using miflash 20181115 with clean all option.
After i unplug phone and reboot it manually nothing was flashed - everything is still on there.
Any ideas?
Thought i would try doing factory reset from within the system and at first it appeared to be going thru the reset - however upon reboot, everything remains.
The other things is i have TWRP on it, wondering if i should do anything there?
Looking for assistance on what the correct procedure is...

Hi, how can one flash without miflash? and the miflash no believe is the last version I think.
Would prefer a miflash completely to get rid of TWRP too.
any other ideas why this is happening?

Xiaomi Flash Tool - Official Mi Flash Tool
Download the latest and Official Xiaomi Flash Tool from the Official Xiaomi Flash Tool Website.
xiaomiflashtool.com
try downloading latest flash tool from this website
if not then try flashing without flash tool and u will not be able to retain twrp if u flash fastboot rom by any means.
if flash tool doesn't work then just extract the zip i have attached here and paste all files of fastboot rom folder in this folder and run the flash_all.bat file and it should work if u have all drivers installed.
The newer miflash worked! thank you so much Ezio!
Would you happen to know if there is any way to get Google PlayStore onto a K20 Pro?
I saw some threads on 'just flash it with a global ROM' - which wasn't the case back a year ago when i had last tinkered.

yes i have an Indian k20 pro and i tried miui global rom it works fine except nfc didn't as Indian k20 pro doesn't have nfc hardware.
So yes u can do that if u want but do note that global rom has dialer and contact as well from google and not mi one.
I remember when I treid it a year ago it didn't work. The phone recognise the rom as for non-chinese and said the version was wrong. Are you sure?
Is the process same as fastboot flashing?
Guess of it doesn't work I should be able to fastboot flash it back again?
Thanks, I just found https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...Vaw1k6QstZklCOzbLJO2p_18T&cshid=1607339448068
I just have to remember not to lock the bootloader.

Question mi 11 pro - from eu rom+twrp to chinese original stock rom with the fastboot loader

Hello friends ,
I need your help because I'm already lost , openning many threads , and I dont know what to do.
I have mi11 Pro with eu rom+ TWRP bootloader. the boot loader is unloacked.
I dont know what I did, but I played with the settings of the phone and the TWRP and currently the phone is running with the eu rom , but I can not install a new rom because the TWRP does not recognize the zip file of the rom .
i tried to fix the problem in the twrp , but failed .
All I want at the moment is to go back to the original Chinese stock rom of the device as on the day I took it out of the box along with the fastboot recovery, so that I ll be able later to install any rom .
Is this process possible without causing a brick to the device?
Is there a link to the original Chinese stock rom with its fastboot recovery and how to install it without using TWRP?
thnx a lot
Just download fastboot rom for Mi 11 pro (google it), and flash in fastboot mode using miflash
Nothing brick, u can relock bootloader if u want there

Question Downgrading from stock A12 to Xiaomi EU A11

I'm planning to go from stock 13.0.2 A12 to Xiaomi EU 13.0.10 A11. Based on what I read, this is what I have to do:
- Unlock bootloader (which will factory reset the phone).
- Start fastboot mode.
- Connect to PC.
- Download the ROM (Recovery for RN11, since it's downgrade I'll have to factory reset but it'll already be done during bootloader unlock)
- Run first_time_installation.bat (or something like that).
Are these steps correct? This will be the first time I flash a ROM and I really don't want to mess it up. Thanks in advance!
The first step is correct, you must unlock the booloader. However, you can't install Xiaomi.eu ROM on fastboot mode, that's only for stock ROMs. If you try to do that using a custom ROM, it could brick your phone. For Xiaomi.eu (or any other custom ROM) you need to install first a custom recovery like TWRP: first downlaod the custom recovery file, then copy it into the storage and then install it. You can do the last 2 things with CMD commands . Then copy the custom ROM file like any other file into the phone's storage, restart the phone on recovery mode and install the ROM from the TWRP interface. I did it like a month ago, I don't remember all the details though. Just look for a tutorial, it's not that hard.
Good luck.

Haha thanks for your reply! This came a bit late, it has been exactly a month since I flashed but I hope this could help someone else. Spes/spesn is listed as recovery on the list but the Android 11 versions only come in Fastboot. When I unlocked bootloader, I had already prepared Pixel Experience and Xiaomi.eu ROM. PE's recovery gave me bootloop so I used the next thing available and flashed Xiaomi.eu .bat file.
I was a bit worried when it was stuck on the same screen for 15 minutes but then it loaded with no problem. Not really sure if I did the right thing or I was just lucky
Indonesia global rom work call recording mi dialer and step counter intalled in eea and no problem
