Rooting with a Custom ROM installed - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I am running Havoc OS and my phone isn't rooted but I would like to root it. I never rooted my phone, so I am not familiar with the process. I saw some patched boot images. Do they work with custom ROMs too, or do I need the stock ROM to use those images?

Just download and flash Magisk. Magisk is a root manager and also allows you to install Magisk modules which you might need sometimes (e.g. I use a module to enable Google ARCore).

Thank you for your help.

a question about flashing magisk

I have the latest hydrogen OS and unlocked bootloader , and i want to root my phone but i just wants to know if theres any other files I need to flash other than magisk.zip
Nope, just flash the latest magisk zip and it's done. But yes, you also have to install the Magisk Manager when you boot up after flashing the zip.
I installed the latest one that came out today and my phone took a crap! Phone became very laggy and would freeze and sometimes not even detect root. I had to restore my phone back to last weeks version.

Hm... Absolutely no issues on my OP3T, OOS 4.1.6 and Franco Kernel r25 with Magisk v13.1. Maybe you have a module causing issues (long shot, I know)?
No issues here with Open Beta 10, Stock Kernel, Magisk 13.1 and Manager 5.0.4.
Root is working, passes SafetyNet with all modules activated and properly hide root from my Banking App. All good!

Just Simple flash the Magisk v13.1 and install the latest magisk manager v5.0.4.
I feel you should flash magisk immediately, while flashing the ROM through custom recovery. Install magisk manager after first boot.
You can do a dirty flash without formatting anything to get rooted.

[Help] Using Magisk on a Dual Booted custom rom

Hi all, I rooted my phone's primary rom using Magisk, and I flashed a secondary rom using Dual Boot Patcher. I would like to pass safetynet on the secondary rom as well as keep root, but so far all I could flash on my second rom is a Dual Boot Patcher patched SuperSU zip file. When I tried to patch and flash Magisk, it failed to mount system. All help is appreciated, thanks a lot.
@TCUofficial try patching the boot.img of secondary ROM with the ADB Magisk Manager method explained in official Magisk thread.

How can I switch from superSU to Magisk in a custom ROM with supersu root built-in?

First, hello everyone and thank you for your time.
Im pretty new about rooting and magisk, so im sorry if i am asking something that is very obvious.
I recently rooted my Huawei Honor 3C. Installed TWRP and flashed some custom ROMs I found on XDA. The problem is that i need to change from superSU root to Magisk root in a custom ROM that is built-in superSU root. Can someone explain me how can i do this?
I have tried to flash unSu.zip and flash magisk.zip, but I got this error: 'Unsupported/Unknown image format'
Thank you so much!

Safe to install Magisk Modules?

I recently updated, rooted, and changed the fingerprint on my ROG 2 Tencent Edition and I'm curious if it's safe to install Magisk Modules on it? I have NOT installed TWRP yet, so I can't take a whole system wide backup. So I just want to make sure using Magisk Modules isn't gonna cause a bootloop or something...
It's perfectly safe. I also didn't install TWRP as it's a hassle on this phone but I do just connect to my PC , fastboot boot to TWRP and make a backup. There's also a module that you can use to remove other modules from recovery, useful for this scenario.

Use TWRP only without root

Is it possible to use Stock Rom with TWRP only without Magisk Root?
Right now I am using a Custom Rom with Magisk on my Note9 Exynos, but I cannot use the Custom Rom without Magisk because it causes a bootloop.
