You can't save files to the phone with ActiveSync. If you want to save it directly to the card use a reader or a utility like WM5torage.
You can, if..

You can, if you take the storage card out of the phone, put it in a card reader and plug that into your computer.. Then it should recognize as a mass-storage device and you can save directly to it!

Not flaming, just being silly. The last poster answered your question.
Thanks guy for the Help, i just need to change my way of thinking.
Actually you can do it directly through the phone. The trick is to copy and paste the files in instead of dragging and dropping. It works fine for me.

Yep, I second that - I'm using XP (dunno if it's different in Vista?) but you should have a 'Mobile Device' under the 'Other' category in Windows Explorer?
Just open this up like any other drive, you will see your My Documents folder in your system memory, double click on 'My Windows Mobile Based Device' to get to your phone's system memory root, you should then see a 'Storage Card' folder which you can then copy and paste to / from just as you would with any other folder...
I searched the forums but could'nt find a similar problem. My SD card is read by my phone. But when i connect it to the computer through USB storage, only a few folders are seen(lost.dir, buildprop.tmp, .profig.os) along with any new folders that i create. But while browsing the card through a file explorer on my phone i can see all the files and folders. Anyone know what's wrong??
Try to put it in a card reader and see what happends.
Hey
I bought a sd card from eBay and had countless errors and trouble with it, I bought a new sd and had no issue what so ever. So try a new sd card or even formatt the memory card
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda app-developers app
See if you can back the contents up to the pc then run disk check or format.
Formatting at the moment is not an option. I have a lot of data on it that needs to be backed up like photos, videos, music etc. Unfortunately i cant backup the contents onto the PC since they cant be seen! Guess i have to upload everything onto dropbox and then format it. And with my current upload speed its going to take days . Unless there's someother way of doing it
Try doing a backup using a card reader for your pc.
Even with a card Reader only the "New" folders that i create can be seen. But on the phone All the folders can be seen.
Have you tried to connect it with Linux based OS or only with Windows?
Try this also. Currently there's a troyan round the globe. When it activates it hides all the folders on external media devices connected to PC, and creates .exe files with names of hidden folders. When you connect your storage to a PC with good antivirus it deletes .exe files but leaves folders on storage in hidden state. Try to configure your Windows Explorer or Total Commander to show hidden files and folders and maybe you'll be lucky.
Only with Windows XP and 7 based systems as im at a cousin's place. Found this problem when he wanted some songs from my card. I did scan the SD card using AVG. During the scan i noticed that the current files being scanned included those that i couldn't see using windows/commander file explorer. Hope that helps
Edit: A little messing around and i got it!! Folder Options > Hidden Files and Folders > Unchecked "Hide Protected Operating System Files"
Thank you for all your help
Hello I have Samsung GT-I9000 and I'm familiar with the phone, more or less. Recently I've bought a used Samsung GT-I9000 for my wife and I noticed that in file manager the shortcut for the external sd card is missing, same is with Root Explorer. I can access the external sd card by accessing the folder /storage and everything works but there is no shortcut. This has not been a problem until recently I wanted to upload a file to my skydrive folder which by default browses the sd_card_0 folder and I could not reach the external sd card. Please if someone could help me how to create a shortcut/link to the external sd card in to the build in sd card. I have searched for similar problems and solutions but I could not find any. Thanks

Hi tihis a know bugs (if you have ICS or later )
Anyway the solution may be the same, use directory bind (serch this app in xda) and create your shotcut where you want (root are needed )
try mnt folder. or make sure sd card are properly inserted. Any rooted file explorer can access to sd.
To make it clearer, this is the problem on the phone - the pointed folder is missing!

I'm not allowed to post external links so please go to the quoted url.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm using the awsome Xylon 2.4.1 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM for I9000
try to browse ur url but da img not available there
after http there is a blank field which needs to be replaced with ://
i ........ nevermind.
are u rooted?
to be sure, juz rooted da explorer by clicking setting in menu button, and redirect everything to /storage/sdcard1
ur sd and internal are quite there so whats da problem? all 4.2.2 version already in ext4 so da folder /external_sd doesnt been used anymore, its for GB, u can see it by going to properties of da /external_sd and see there will be no space available.
JB uses /storage at / to indicate da sdcard, its proper that way and easy to organise
at /storage, there will be 2 directories, /sdcard0 (indicates your internal and /sdcard1 (indicates your external sd)
as i see here, there is nothing wrong with ur pic and fone
edited: i use root explorer so its taking a while for me to download CMfilemanager (well, gonna change ROM after this so installing it not a bother to me)
da first 2 thumbnail is my root explorer, the other are da same file explorer as yours
see thumbnail:
To solve this problem I used SiMi Folder. see this link
I also found Smart Shortcuts, which I like even better. see this link
Now there is all this new progress with unlocked Ativ S' can some clever hacker please allow apps to be installed direct to SD card. Maybe via a registry edit. This was done for the Microsoft Surface so may be possible in the Ativ S. The following is taken direct from my hints and tips thread for the Surface...
52. Install Apps Direct to SD Card
By default only media files can be installed to the SD cards and apps are installed to internal memory. If you have a 32gig tablet, you will realise internal memory is precious and limited. Free up internal memory by changing the location of where apps are installed. Run Regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx and change the location path of the PackageRoot key from C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps to say D:\WindowsApps (where D: is the drive letter of your SD card and WindowsApps is the name of a folder you created in your SD card). You may need to change permissions on the Appx registry folder so that you can edit the key. You can also change the app repository to another directory by changing the PackageRepository key in a similar manner.
PLEASE!!!
Currently, we can't even browse the SD card, much less install apps there. It's not even mounted at a visible path. I'll post if I find a way, though.

Looking at the fs directly, i'd say that everything is mounted through Mount point, like android/Linux do.
Don't be too sure it's a user-mode visible mount point, though. There's a special DLL in System32 for accessing the SD card. It may just be mounted on a different drive letter - -WOLF-'s hack accesses C:\ specifically, though it could access others - but there's no reference to an actual path for it anywhere that I can see.
Hi,
I've purchased a sd card but I can't write on the sd card with ES Explorer. It says me:
Your system forbids ES from writing on external SD card (check https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail....)
Any help please?
Many thanks and sorry for my English!
Hi.
It's a kitkat restriction, you can't use ESExplorer without root
So... there is a workaround without root?
There is no workaround for ES Explorer without root.
And is possible with other file explorer?
Thanks
Only the one that's preinstalled.
You can manage your SD card from PC, it's the easiest way
Yes. I'm trying to configure torrent client to download directly in sd card but it's impossible

That sounds like a problem of an older App which has no support for Android 4.4 (yet). Else it could very well create it's own directory on the SDcard and just work.
