Hi,
I've unlocked bootloader like 4 different times, and my Widevine Turns the L1 into L3.
The main problem for me, is that i can't use Netflix and worst, can't install Samsung Gear Wearable. Even downloading both apps from apkpure, the system give a pop up message saying "App incompatible with this Android Version."
Anyone know's how to unlock bootloader without all this problems? Or how to Bypass it?
I'm using Mi 9T Pro.
I don't think you can get back L1 after unlocking your phone. It is similar to T2 chip in Apple devices.

Not sure how is your Widewine status linked to the bootloader. For Xiaomi Global devices, it always stays L1 even after bootloader unlock.

Netflix and Samsung not allowing you to download from Playstore has nothing to do with DRM. They have different policies for different regions. Try using the Safety net magisk module if that helps. Otherwise, use a modded Netflix app that works on unlocked bootloader.

I recently learned that an unlocked bootloader will trigger the Netflix app to only play in standard definition but not HD anymore because of Google Widevine DRM going from L1 to L3 even with Magiskhide. Is there any way around this on the Mi 9?
From my experience the only way is to relock your bootloader! :/

Thanks, for confirming that. I wanted to help my son unlock and root to install the Viper audio mod. But losing resolution on Netflix because of it is a deal breaker for him. Pity!
How do you even get a proper Netflix app, I got Mi9 Transparent edition with unlock BL, but the app says my device is not supported by the app

Have you tried installing the Netflix app from a another source than Google play?
The mi 9 I was asking about has a locked bootloader and Netflix installed from Play store. Given the consequence for the resolution of Netflix playback I won't unlock :-/
Perhaps a silly comment, but has anyone tried rooting and using magisk hide to perhaps allow regular playback? I can't cos 1. The phone hasn't arrived yet and 2. I don't use Netflix! Just came across this thread and wondered if it would make a difference...
I unlocked my Chinese MI 9 and flashed the official Global ROM. Now Netflix doesn't show up in the app store anymore, nor does it run when I install it manually.
As a temporary work around I installed a modified Netflix app that was made to enable HD playback. This works now, but I don't know how long this will last - so I'd be interested in a permanent solution.
Since I went from Chinese to Global I cannot lock the bootloader again or it will brick my phone.
How would Magisk help with solving this problem?
Also, can I install Magisk without TRWP or wiping the device?

If you can provide us the link to your Netflix MOD app it would be great, anyway i think you can go back to chinese to relock your BL, Magisk does nothing, i'm on global rom with magisk no Netflix available

Yes, it is the global one. I thought the security downgrade was linked to the bootloader. Any way to root without detection??? My objective is to install the audio tuning app viper4android which needs root access.
Hi,
I have find a solution to get widevine l1 working with unlocked bootloader. With Beta 9.6.27 the drm Info App Shows widevine l3, Then i have flashed the latest xiaomi.eu Rom 10.2.16.0 root it with magisk and now the drm Info App Shows widevine l1 so now you have Netflix and Others Apps with hd Resolution. Bootloader is unlocked

Wide one is for TV streaming, not for the actual HD playback on the phone I think
So as the title says and if anyone can help that would be great. I have 8gb/256gb Chinese k20 pro and it is stuck on old firmware, I live in the UK and I'm not getting anymore updates, I'm stuck in July or security patch too. I have applied for bootloader unlock so I'm ready to unlock bootloader as its been more than the 7 days. I would prefer to use miflash to install for time being until I back up my media as that's what's most on my phone. Which firmware that's none Chinese has the miui phone app and is upto date and can be flashed via miflash. I've flashed many phones but my 1st time owning a xiaomi phone so just need a few pointers

If you want to stay official then the Indian version is the only non Chinese ROM that has the MIUI dialler, but it loses NFC functionality as the Indian phone doesn't have NFC hardware.
The other option is xiaomi.eu ROMs, these are Chinese ROMs that are stripped of ads and bloatware, globalized with dozens of languages, then optimised and enhanced. Unfortunately they don't have OTA functionality, so you'll need to manually update.

So eea firmware and global firmware dont have the miui dialer? I'm not too fussed about nfc as I dont use contact contactless tbh. Hmm, the other issue is that even though netflix had this device down as hd and HDR content compatible, I never get the ability to play video in that method. I know this phone has L1 widevine but I'm pretty sure because of the firmware I'm on, which is an ooold Chinese firmware its showing as l3. I will eventually move onto custom roms but just want to get used to the the phone before messing about with it too much.

Yes ! Both EEA and Global have the Google Dialers with no recording feature. If you really dont care about NFC, then Indian firmware is your best bet. L1 widewine is only available on Global units and not the Chinese units. You can’t change the status by a software flash. Your widevine status would remain L3 even after moving to Global/EEA/Indian rom. Make sure you dont lock your bootloader while flashing the global firmware as it would be a hard brick. Choose the options cautiously in the Mi Flash tool. A safe approach would be to just delete these two files (Clean_All_Lock.bat , Clean_All_Lock.sh) from the fastboot firmware that you gonna download. This would ensure even if you mess up the tool, it wont be able to lock the bootloader.
I have the global variant Mi 9t with global stable and have MiUi dialer.

Nope ! Can’t say about the future. The Devs are working. It’s a daunting task.
I tried Android 10 and I decide to downgrade my Mi 9T Pro to Android 9. After downgrade, so many things broken because of persist.img
So, I reflash the persist.img (from V10.3.17.0.PFKCNXM) file and problems solved. I am using xiaomi.eu_multi_HMK20ProMI9TPro_V10.3.17.0.PFKCNXM_v10-9 now.
Netflix Widevine is turned from L1 to L3, so I cant play HD or HDR contents. How can I fix that?
once you have modified the vendor/persist partition (flashing the vendor/persist.img through twrp) there is no way to recover widevine L1 except for having to change the equipment for a new one or with a change of pcba
And if you try to flash using EDL? and then tell us if it is possible to recover the widevine L1

I have a Global device. Unlocked BL and flashed the Indian version using fastboot. Haven't rooted but I have formatted all the partitions from twrp before fastbooting the indian rom.
Problem is now I cannot download Netflix app from the Playstore and figured also the playstore "Device is not certified" there in settings.
I want to know this is common and there's no way to get Widewine L1 when BL is unlocked? Or is there a possibility if I go back to the official Global rom and lock it?

Just flash magisk and safetynet patch module, then delete play store data. You can install Netflix now.
Just wondering, what are other disadvantages aside from loosing L1 ? I also flashed my persist image on A3 due to downgrade and sensor problems. Will service center be able to flash to restore it? Cause the phone is running fine on anything else
Same Issue with me. Any progress on your situation OP?
Maybe you should have done some research before doing something that stupid. Flashing persist.img is guaranteed to make you lose l1 permanently.
For some reason after updating Oxygen OS 11.0.1.1.GM21AA on my GM1910
Widevine L1 is back
It was never available before
I'm not sure if Oneplus made something
But here are some screen shots
Same here. I'm scared to update to the latest OTA in case I lose it.

On almost all roms we have L1 enabled if we had any OOS11 version as base.
So are there any special steps to get L1 on an unlocked bootloader or can I just wipe my phone and install the android 11 update over 10?

No need to wipe, just update with official OTA
Ok trying to get my Widevine back to L1 from L3 and can't find a solution. I was in the last OOS10 (widevine L3) then updated to the latest 11.0.1.1.HD65AA at OnePlus chat support request and it's still L3... So I updated for nothing. I don't get it lol. Reason for posting is that I kinda want to try LOS, but not sure if that will restore L1? Thanks
It's hit or miss. I couldn't get L1 with unlocked bootloader, no matter what.
The only way to get L1 back in my case is to lock the bootloader and go back to official.
@RokCruz
Are you suggesting to update from an Android 10 L3 unlocked state to Android 11?
With Magisk already on it?

I already tested on all OB and the lastest stable OOS11 and Widevine stay in L1, even in ROMs Widevine will be L1 if you use any OOS11 stock ROM as base
So, my recommendation is make a backup of your stuff, take off the fear and try by yourself.

AFAIK (google around), by flashing Persist (even your own), you irreversibly lost L1 and forever

You had to flash the stock firmware as tgz/fastbook (not just as zip/recovery).
And tried: Settings, Passwords and Security, Fingerprint unlock, Fingerprint payments, Widevine L1, Certificate update
But I doubt you could do it now after playing with your Persist
I already tried that, nothing seems to work, can service center restore L1 manually like oneplus 5t required Manual loading of widewine L1 from service centre

[INFO] Widevine L1 Support
This thread should answer most of your questions regarding Widevine L1 support on your device(s). I will try to keep it maintained and up-to-date. Notes: * This list includes only supported Android 10+ devices that either support Widevine L1 officially, or support it unofficially by Xiaomi.eu...

You can try service center if your bootloader is locked and is still under warranty coverage.
