I'd like to know how the dual sim functions works. Is it possible to recieve calls on both sim cards and can you choose which sim to use mobile data on?

I've got my phone setup with a Fido (Canada) data SIM and MTN (Nigeria) SIM for roaming in the second slot. I am using a sim adapter so a 128gb Samsung memory card is also hooked in. For some reason the MTN roaming SIM will not receive calls, most callers to that SIM card are told the number isn't available. However, if I switch off the second data SIM, the First SIM will then be able to receive calls without any problems. I've taken out the sim adapter and memory card, but this still persists.
Has anyone experienced this before or know a way to fix this?

So the phone is not a dual-SIM phone, it is only with the "adapter"?
It is a dual SIM phone alright. These hybrid dual SIM can either take two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card. If you want all 3, then you need to use an adapter to achieve that.
I have a dual sim N9 from Globe Philippines. I just realized that despite it being dual sim, only the slot where the Globe sim card is placed can access data. I want to be able to choose which sim card I'll use for data. There are places where signal is better for the other brand sim so it's only logical to shift to that carrier's service. Is there a way to do that without having to sim unlock the phone?
I saw something a bit odd here. It says here on specs that secondary sim only supports voice but from what I know is that both SIM cards support data. Is there something wrong here? Do both sim slots not support data? To the best of my knowledge with this phone you can have two SIM cards and use data on both of them allowing you to download two WeChat apps and have two numbers for each WeChat account on one smartphone. Is this not the case now?? See link from HK below and look at the bottom of the specs page for supported bands on SIM card tray.

Hi
I don't have a second SIM handy but looking at the settings you set the phone with a default SIM for calling and a default for data. Makes sense you would have to do this. So outbound calls and default use of data is pushed through either SIM. Don't know if that helps....
Found a SIM and popped this in. I now have another option enabled which says switch data connection between calls. So the option moves the data to SIM 2 when taking a 4g call on SIM 1....

Settings, connection, SIM manager then mobile data set that to the sim with unlimited data there is no need to switch as it will work for both Sims.
My work sim doesn't have data but I can still use it as if I did have with my personal SIM.
I have a Huawei Mate 20 lite model using 2 sim cards. The problem I am having is that I can only have one sim card with LTE and VolTE option active. I need to make the other sim to have both LTE and VolTE option active too. Please any advise on how to fix this is welcome.
I did check if this is a sim card problem and I installed this sim card that cannot get active the LTE/VolTE in another cell phone and in that cell phone I was able to actived the LTE/VolTE. So this tell me if not a sim card problem and it is pointing to a device problem.
If this option LTE/VolTE can be active only in one the sim card, then I would like to know how can I make this change to the sim card I want to hace this option. I tried to swap the sim card and did not solve this problem. Please if anyone have any suggestion please let me know. Thanks.
If you have active LTE on that card and the option is not visible, ask the operator if this model is supported.
Also you can check in the developer options if you can select "lte on two SIM cards",
