Can somebody tell me what ROM is this? - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Sorry for the probably stupid question.
Just bought the Tencent variant (via China obviously), the phone came with Google Playstore preinstalled the firmware version is : pkq1.190414.001.ww_phone-16.0622.1906.19-0
Is this the International fw ?

Yes, it's international WW, but, you need to check the fingerprint is WW too before you can update to 1908. You can use device info hw from playstore, it'll show under system, you need WW Rom, which you have, plus product and fingerprint need to be WW too

Asian H8296 updates in Europe

I use the Asian H8296 in Germany with a German provider.
On XperiCheck.Com I see that the firmware update A4 is only for customized hw and tk.
Not for customized DE like the H8266.
Does that mean that I won't get any updates, until I flash a H8266 firmware or use a Hongkong Sim card?
I only see the A4 firmware (8296) for CN on xpericheck. But to answer your question, no you don't need to flash another firmware.
Your phone will get the update whenever it is released for your firmware region, it doesn't matter where in the world you use it. So if your 8296 is on TW firmware, you will get it when Sony releases that one. If you were on CN firmware, your phone would have the A4 update available already.

I had the Honkong Version.
But I flashed now the German H8266 Version via XPeriFIrm and NewFlasher V13.
It deleted my entire phone (not the sdcard), but it was a good decision to get faster updates.
I got A4 and the entire 6GB ram are shown.
The complete OS is German and working perfectly.
Thanks for the info. Hmm, I might do the same then. I had the TW version (had to send it back because the speaker was defective), but the 8266 seems to get updates faster. My only concern was the ram. Does it ever show more than 4GB being used?
Is that the info you need?
PS
Don't install the cn china firmware.
It has no Google apps, but apps with Chinese names.
Nice, it looks good. Thanks! :highfive:
Haha, I had flashed the CN on the one I had too! I reflashed right away when I didn't see any Google apps.

Hi Martin, can you also tell us if, after flashing h8266 firmware, your VoLTE and WiFi Calling are working fine in your area? I am also from EU, and I would like to know this if possible.
Thanks for your feedback!

Since using the German Firmware, I can use VoLTE and Wifi Calling.
Getting a HD Symbol while calling and still having Internet while only in LTE.
The Asian Firmware didn't got the option to activate it.
My provider is O2 (Telefónica).

Thank you for this Martin! I wonder if I need to install Central European or Germany region firmware in order to have fully working VoLTE and WiFi Calling in my country (Romania). Also, I am curious if you actually see the benefits of the extra 2GB of Ram?
Cheers!

I don't know if the Romania firmware is optimized for your mobile network.
My average ram usage is 3.6GB
I assume, that it will consume more ram if you play a 3D game.
I also assume, that future android versions will consume more ram, so my phone is future proof.
I will use it or several years.

Hi, Martin. I also want to flash my Hongkong version as German H8266,
but I cannot find Oreo version yet, I can only find Pie version for German H8266 from Xperiafirm.
I have flashed this version, but it is stalled at accessing google service because I am in mainland China
Thus, I tried the French Oreo version because I found that at Xpericheck.com
For the Oreo, I can get into the system, but OTA to Pie is failed at the end of Stage 1 installation.
Do you know the reason, or could you share me the flashing image for German H8266 Oreo which can get OTA correctly?
Thank you very much.

You could flash the PIE version directly.
I don't know why the french firmware would refuse OTA.
Maybe it's your great firewall in china?
Only restricted google services are allowed in your country.

Thanks. In fact, I have flashed German Pie already, but the phone is stopped at first boot, because I cannot access Google directly. Even I choose skip, it still prompts that it cannot login into Google services. Thus, I have no idea, then I find French version still have Oreo firmware.

Hi all,

Hmm, not sure. I went to 1907 first but that's because I wanted root and followed that guide. But, there's now a rooted 1908 so it would probably be fine to go straight to that version, rooted or not. Do have a read of the guides tho and following posts too

Asus is warning on their forums about sellers selling modified tencent version with WorldWide ROM and that is not correct ROM it should have and Asus says any tencent versions with WW ROM is not official device by Asus and you should return device back to seller. Since warranty won't count and FOTA would probably not work.

Google pay not working

Hi all
I am trying to set up the Google pay but I am getting the error: Couldn't finish to pay in stores. This phone can't be used to pay in stores. This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way.
I tried to delete the cache and storage but no chance!
Any ideas?
Are you using official Asus Rog phone 2 or a tencent version with ww ROM?
I'm unrooted and have the bootloader locked and my Google pay works fine on my tencent converted to ww phone.

Like other user said it will say tencent on the back if it's tencent version. If you got tencent, then go into settings --> System --> About Phone and look at software I formation if text there starts with WW_ then yours has got worldwide firmware. When it's supposed have Chinese version.
So most likely you bought a modified tencent version and that device has no warranty and FOTA does not work and Asus are stating any tencent version with WW firmware is not official device. Asus do not manufacture a tencent version with WW firmware. So you should either contact your reseller and request a refund and ship the item back and buy a proper tencent version with Chinese firmware or non tencent version.

Question 11 Ultra Chinese version making it "original" EU

Hello,
I've bought my Mi 11 Ultra from China and loving it. I've then rooted it and installed the EU fastboot version.
However, I don't like having to worry about Magisk and all the security issues that this process might entail therefore I'd like to ask a very simple question:
is there a way to turn a Chinese version into an official European version?
So basically I would like to just flash it with a EU official fw and then lock the root again so that there would be no difference between a phone bought here. In my simple mind, the only difference between the China version and the EU version is just the firmware, is that correct?
I've read it's dangerous to flash and lock the root again though? Is that true?
Thanks a lot

Yes. Lock bootloader in the way you thought is dangerous.
Ah right, thanks. May I ask why that's not possible? Just out of curiosity. What's the difference between a phone bought here and a phone bought in China and flashed EU? Is it the kernel?

You can install the official ROM from EEA (Europe) or Global and use your device normally and you will have no problem and everything will work. You just cannot lock the bootloader again on these ROMs.

yes the problem is that you get security issues with most banking apps so you have to play around with Magisk. And I don't really need the bootloader to be unlocked cause i don't want custom ROMs, but apparently there isn't a solution

The EU is approved and based on the Chinese version but has the best of all the variants and works on all approved banking apps. Some people say it doesn't but have never tried.
I use the EU and have done for a few phones. I use Gpay, Lloyds Bank and most secure of all, Sky go. You can't even hide sky go using any Magisk hide app, yet it works fine with the EU. Someone said, BDO bank doesn't work, yes it does, just delete the empty twrp folder.
See screenshots of both security and DRM levels on this EU ROM phone. The boot loader stays visually unlocked but it works as if it is locked.
If you have any questions, please message me, I'll tell you straight if you are still worried.

The unlocked bootloader doesn't give banks problems (at least here I never had), I had a CC9 Pro (CN), I unlocked the bootloader and put the official global ROM and used it normally, I had no problems with the banks. Understand that unlocking the bootloader and root are completely different things.
To my knowledge this is not possible!
While the CN version and the international version share many mobile bands they are not similar and it's not possible to change frequency bands. So the hardware will remain CN whichever ROM you flash....
As mentioned in the posts before you can flash different ROMs but only as long as the Bootloader is unlocked....
All correct, you can only relock the bootloader if you flash the original CN Rom, the one your phone came preinstalled with

Hi Allexsander, the scenario you're mentioning is basically my current setup. I got a chinese version, unlocked the bootloader and installed the official EU rom. All my banking apps and google pay wouldn't work unless i flash Magisk. If you've had a different experience, please let me know

All correct, you can only relock the bootloader if you flash the original CN Rom, the one your phone came preinstalled with

thanks guys, so basically the only option here is to have Magisk. No Magisk, no chance of using a CN version properly in Europe
Unfortunately nope, but I don't get what's wrong with using magisk

What didn't work? Gpay and banking apps all work on EU ROM. Did you set your wallet to Gpay and HCE? What Bank apps are not working!

absolutely nothing to be honest. Just that Magisk has suddenly broken and my google pay isn't working anymore. SafetyNet has started failing

they weren't working as soon as i flashed with EU rom and installed the apps. I had to use Magisk to get them to run properly. Although now google pay no longer works
what's broken with magisk if I may?

Are you using the Official Global ROM (EEA) or Xiaomi.eu? Here I'm using the Global version and everything works, I just unlocked the bootloader and installed the Global version.

Well basically this. It was working fine, then had to reinstall everything but still Google pay won't work. All other apps do though

Yes I'm using EU downloaded from the official website. Maybe I should try the global version?
