Bought a P30 lite a few months ago as a replacement for HTC U11+ that I destroyed, and I hate it since I'm missing root. Decided to go back to Samsung.
Looking for a device that I can (1) root and unlock bootloader easily, (2) install TWRP and hopefully (3) enjoy vibrant modding support with linage OS like roms for a few years, like I did with the Note 3.
The question:
Is there any difference between S10 and S10 plus in this context?
And is there a difference between the F models and the F/DS models? Can I still get all of that with the dual-sim models, or are they "neglected" in any way?
Thanks!

Only the exynos variants of theS10 and S10+ can obtain root and unlock the bootloader.
Now to answer your questions:
1. There's no difference that I know of between the S10 and 10 plus, then again I am in the U.S.
2. The different models have to do with the region you are in. For example U and U1 are U.S. variants.
3. Dual sim model should be able to get root if it's an exynos.

Hello, I've been flashing these Note's since back when Darthstalker was RULING the Note Series, ( One of the BEST to do it ), however, ever since T-Mobile decided to lock their bootloaders I've switched to the OnePlus. I am thinking about purchasing the International Note 8 (SM-N950F) because from the research I've done I've learned that this is the variant to get, I've also read that the Note 8 (SM-N950F/FD) can also be Rooted and Flashed via TWRP, However, when I search online to purchase that version (SM-N950F/FD) all I find is the Note 8 (SM-N950F/DS), are those 2 model numbers the same, or can it be flashed the same as the (SM-N950F and (SM-N950F/FD)? I ask cause i don't want to purchase the Note 8 SM-N950F/DS and not be able to flash it, or worse BRICK the Device.. If anyone can shed light to these questions i would gladly appreciate it, community and its yearssss of serving us enthusiast...!!! God Blessssss...!!!! In short, is the SM-N950F/FD the same as the SM-N950F/DS..????
They use the same firmware.
And T-Mobile didn't decide to start looking the bootloaders. ALL the US Galaxy phones have locked bootloaders. Even the factory unlocked, unbranded version you buy from Samsung.
T mobile and sprint were the last ones to lock up there boot loader, the ONLY 2 carriers that had locked boot loaders back then was AT&T + Verizon. So it was T mobile + Sprint that were that LAST Phone Carriers to Lock there Boot loader, this is a Fact, from the S7 and up is when they Started, ask anyone,,, thanks for your response Either way, Blessss....
N950F/DS is dual sim model where N950F is a single sim model. Aside from that everything else is identical

They both have locked bootloaders!
Search for Samfail for note 8
Search for Sampwn for gs8
On note 8 you'll be stuck on bootloader v1, 2, and v3 once you go to bootloader v4 no more root. (Samsung patched the exploit). This is only for root! No custom kernels because bootloader is still locked.
Same thing happened to gs8 (not sure though on which bootloader versions has root and which ones doesn't. )

which manufacturers are the best for the unlocked bootloaders? This ****ing sucks! When I was doing my GS5 it was beginnning to get tricky with Samsung and Motorola was the worst, now it seems like they are all doing it. It's also not clear where I can get the international versions or even their model numbers online, if they are unlocked bootloaders or the same wavelengths (GSM etc)

If you want to root and have custom kernels and roms go with the international models SM-N950F (exynos soc) or s8 SM-G950F / s8+ Sm-G955F (both exynos soc). They both have the options to unlock the bootloader by the OEM switch in developer options. (But some phones you'll have to wait 7 or so days before it appears, so do some reading on OEM switch disappears).
Right now the s8 has more custom roms then note 8 atm.
So if you don't need the spen go with the s8/s8+.
I would check to make sure either phone supports your carrier bands.
Check this site for carrier band support:
https://willmyphonework.net
Or
https://www.frequencycheck.com/models
(The second might be better to use.)
If you want another company Oneplus, google pixel, etc
Thought about the n9/ s9 / s9+ or even the new s10?

Want to spend at most $450 used or new
Too expensive. I am phsyically active can drop or forget phone in a lto of places and it's happened before
Ordered the GS 8 F variant (international) ....too much choice nowadays. I made a lto of notes when shopping this time around
Used Anandtech and GSMareana including GSM arean's battery life test on how i'd use the phone
Crossreferenced kingroot and xda to see if phones were rootable
Came up with list :
Huawei Mate 10 vs Google Pixel vs SS 8 variants (active,+, normal) vs Xiaomi Max 2
Xiami has the most battery life followed byMate then S8 then Pixel 2 XL
Pixel 2XL seems less superior than the S8 in all regards. S8 active seems to have an locked forever bootl loader
Huawei mate 10 pro hardly has devleopment for such a popular device on XDA- out
Same with Xiaomi Max 2
Ok so S8 vs S8+
Two finger typing good for : not dropping phone, stylus, dont care about those two things
one finger: good for using phone while driving, and smaller and less weight while sprinting in the park
S8 it is more availability of the F than the FD (dual sim otherwise the same) on the international unlocked bootloader versions of the phone
For some reason I thought the snapdragon models were easier to create roms for but so far I only see roms for the models that have the Exynos CPU. Is this true? Are there any roms for g973u or g973u1 models?
No, it's been known for years that the G973U1 phones are locked down. You're already getting a superior phone with the Snapdragon processor so you'll have to live with it.
Thanks for the info. I've rooted and rom'd every phone I have ever had including my galaxy s7 international. I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to buy a phone that can't be rooted. That said the galaxy s10 is an amazing phone and Samsung's camera app is pretty sweet. One of my main motivations for rooting is for installing the google camera app
My s10+ exynos rooted is for sale
The U.S. variants of the S9 and S9+ just got root like 2 months ago. It'll be awhile before the S10 gets root if it's even going to be possible. A lot people are saying no that root will never come to the U.S. S10 model line.
I'd like to know what are all the differences between all of the Note 9 variants, in terms of what's BL locked and what's rootable.
First of all, I'm under the impression that the Exynos phones are unlockable/rootable. It is also not available in the United States, as I understand, correct? Does that mean it won't work with US Carriers at all?
Also, the Snapdragon version. Now, I don't know what are all of the Snapdragon variants, as I can only speak for my phone and the various posts I've seen about it. I'm on the SM-N960U. Is it fair to say that having a GN9 with a Snapdragon processor mean that your phone cannot be BL Unlocked/Rooted? If any Snapdragon phones can be Unlocked/Rooted, which ones are these and are they compatible with US Carriers?
I don't plan on replacing my Note 9 yet, but maybe next year with another Samsung. I read that the Note line might be going away, in space of the S-line "Ultra". But anyways, my point being when I get a new Samsung Phone, is it possible to get one that is BL Unlockable and Rootable, AND fully compatible with my US Carrier, Tmobile?
afaik, you have the Note 9's US version already (snapdragon chip version) so its certainly compatible with US carriers in the 1st place.
rooting/bootloader unlocking is another story, irrelevant to what you are concerned.
I think only US sd version is unlockable.
N960F compatability https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/note-9-model-sm-n960f-ds-dual-sim-t3903528
It's funny you'd ask this today.... I own an international version (unlocked) Snapdragon variant that *is* rootable... the SM-N9600 (not to be mistaken for the N960u and so on which are NOT rootable). But though my phone is *technically* rootable, there's a very messy issue with it not allowing flashing TWRP / rooting even after the OEM unlock switch is thrown. I oughta know... just again spent hours in vain trying to get it to root. It's a long story and you can find it just by googling "N9600 prenormal" or some such. Anyway, at least on paper there is a Snapdragon Note 9 that is rootable.
So now that there is a way to unlock bootloader and root the US snapdragon versions of the s10+ such as the SM-G975U I was wondering if there are any ROMs from the Exynos version we could use and if not then possibly if there were snapdragon ROMs in the works. I'm dying to use lineage OS again and unfortunately this is the phone I had to buy since EVERY phone store in a 50 mile radius of me was sold out on good root able phones and my other one broke and because of work and such I can't be without a phone.
