Good Morning folks,
as some of you are already proud owners of a LG2x, I would like to know how the battery lifetime really is. Are you guys satisfied? How intensive are you using your device?
It would be nice, if you can describe what you are running, like wifi, gps and so on... pretty sure you know what to write to give me and the others a clear view on the battery lifetime ;-)
cheers,
Manuel
Yesterday I got the phone.
On very very very hard use it took me about 7 hours for the phone to be 0%. That is kinda good in my eyes.
Today I'm doing normal use, to see how the battery goes.
I withnised 100% tot around 60% went kinda fast, but from 60% till 0% took a while
So stay tuned for the today test.
I got the phone the day before yesterday started charging it. Then in the afternoon it was fully charged and i started to play around with it. It did good but then today i had it fully charged overnight and now - at around 15:00 it dropped below 15%! I hadn't been using it for other than a few calls, a few texts and less than 10 minutes fooling around.
Something is up - i don't know what, but the battery info shows most battery usage was drained due to cell standby and mobile standby...
I don't know what really caused this Other than that i love this phone, i just hope i find the reason for this insane drain soon - i tried rebooting and even installed advanced task killer

Hello, I cant really help much on the battery issue other than to say give it a few more cycles before getting too upset.
The last new battery I had in my iPhone took a week to really settle down.
I would uninstall advanced task killer as I believe it has issues with froyo and is not really needed.
Ok thanks - i think i will then
had the phone 2 days now, and feel like the battery drains fairly fast, had a BB before this and im not used to having to charge everyday. Will se how it goes the next couple of days.
Ok, it seems a lot of people already got their device. Is there someone who could try to unload (by heavy use or something else) and reload the battery again and again to get a feeling of the behavior after some loads?
Thanks!
Update: I have an update from a German guy for you who claims to found out that the service "nvrm_daemon" is the one which consumes the most power. Anyone an idea what it is? The "nv" in the name sounds like nvidia...

Yes, it seems related to Tegra.
I googled and found this little quote about the offending service on a site dealing with the Toshiba AC100 that also use the Tegra 2 chipset:
it makes suspend, sound and cpu frequency scaling work

Isnt it coz that dual core isnt supported very well in 2.2?
Should be fixed in 2.3.

48 hours.
Way better than the Nexus One. Not much more I can say.
Most importantly, not much more I will say on battery. It's too subjective and circumstance specific.

I should be clear - I do not mean +48 hours battery, I mean I have used the phone for only 48 hours... This includes charging.
But still, much better than my Nexus One. At the same time with the same apps and usage I have 40% and on my Nexus I would have 15%.
We all still need some days (~1 week) for the battery to settle.

@xmoo thanks for your impressions of battery life. i was a little afraid of power consumption because of the dual core but that sounds fair

Ok i'm doing a real-life test atm after a few charging cycles.
What did I do/ have I on?
Have I on: Everything (gps, data, wifi (if possible),...)
What did I do: Some gaming, few youtube movies, few short calls, watching mails, some internet browsing, send a few texts.
I'm using the app : Juicedefender in combination with ultimatejuice (this prolonged my battery 2.14x!!!
How long? : Atm i'm using my cell (from full charge) for 44 hours and I still have 39% left! This means that i could get it to run for 3 days on 1 charge!
Note: this is after doing a few cycles, out-of-the-box use gets you the day around!
I see a lot of people complaining about battery life, myself included. I have tried just about every ROM there is and used all the battery saving apps and I think I've found a winning combination that will leave you with a fast phone and good screen on/off battery life. My stats so far today are 8 hours off the charger with 1 hr 30 mins SOT and still 80% battery left and that's shifting between my work WiFi which has many access points and causes WLAN_RX wakelocks and the crappy signal around this area.
I use the phone for general stuff like browsing the web, playing the odd 2D game whilst bored and push notifications from various social networking apps and I have been addicted to achieving 7+ hours of SOT over 2 days since I owned a Galaxy S1 many years ago. Instead of writing a crazy guide I'll just keep this thread simple and post my current configuration that is giving me good battery life:
- BOE2 bootloader, modem and ROM (I'm using Nameless ROM v2 for 910G)
- Roughly 25% brightness, all sync on, location @ GPS only (High Accuracy only when using Maps)
- Followed THIS GUIDE very closely which gives amazing deep sleep and still get notifications with the Push Notification Fixer app
- Uninstalled Facebook and Messenger and use Tinfoil with Pushbullet and the RSS Feed and set to open Tinfoil when I get a notification: Here's how to do that
- Discharge fully to 0% and then turn on again to make sure fully dead, then charge to 100% to calibrate battery
Wallah! You should get good battery life now provided you use the phone for the same things I do. It's that easy!
You need to be rooted for most of that thread don't you? I need my banking app from time to time so I can't root. Gutted!
Joe
Thank you for taking the time to write this up, but you should mention in the thread title that you need to be rooted. Thanks anyways though. I'm not the type to root. If Samsung can't deliver a good product for the $800 device they made, the device should be returned (which will be my case if the 5.1.1 update doesn't come in July or it doesn't fix the issues I'm having with this device).

Fully discharging a Li-Ion battery is not healthy for the long term life of the battery.
When will the myth of "re-calibrating" a battery finally die?!?
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine. There is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life.

Smartphone batteries haven't needed to be calibrated in years. The only time you ever had to "calibrate" your battery was when your phone would sit at either 5% or 1% for hours before dying.
Even then you were calibrating your phones interpretation of the battery voltage levels, not the battery itself. Unless I'm very much mistaken battery charging is handled by integrated hardware, not software.
As a software bug overcharging a Li-Po is dangerous and completely avoidable

Huh? Never had a problem running official apps from two different banks.
I'm finding TW to be slightly better on battery under my circumstances - which consist of terrible signal fluctuation and rx_wlan wakelocks due to so many wireless arrays at work - however I will probably go back to CM12.1 soon or wait for Android M developer preview to be ported to Note 4 (fingers crossed) as I just love how stock and minimalistic everything is on stock droid CM and AOSP and it seems to be a lot snappier when combined with L-Speed mod.

Can someone who actually has the phone post real world battery life test results with full res on, Bluetooth WiFi and GPS on, and without running YouTube to run down the battery.
I saw the video from the YouTube tech guy (thanks for all those btw), but these devices are optimized for video so running down the battery with a long Youtube playlist isnt "actual useage" if you know what I mean.

Yea a lot of people get the devices before the consumer release date to review them. Like this guy I know that it wont be "my usage", but I did stipulate a few conditions that would make it close to my use case and I wanted to make sure that streaming video on loop wasn't part of the test.

Understand completely.. i do not see the point in strategically getting high SoT or battery usage stats.. I just don't think it would help you someone else posting there usage for you to make a decision on. I assume you would be comparing it with your current phone with your usage
I've seen a video on YouTube that claims the screen on time is 6 hours and 45 minutes during normal use. That would be incredible

Seeing that video gives me hope. But seeing no updates to improve S8+ Is bull.
Just remember to look after your battery initially. When you first get your device charge it without using it. Once charged you'll be doing a lot of transfers and updates which will heat up the battery and device because of the load - I always do this initial set-up in a cool room or outside if cooler and without a case to keep the battery cool. Once set-up and you've played with it and the battery is drained, don't charge it . Switch off the device and let it cool down. Following this initial care procedure should give you better long term battery life.

As @jah says, heat is the enemy of Li-Ion batteries. The cooler you can keep them, the better. Don't charge them when they're warm to the touch, and don't fast-charge them unless you really need to. I don't think charging them with the device off provides a significant enough benefit to go to the trouble of shutting down your phone before and turning it on after, though.

Mostly of the time i put my phone on charge when it arrives around 10%
Have the phone 1 year now without problems
Hey. Im using the OEM charger which is came with the device. Im charging from %4-5 to %100 usually. It's been a year(almost) and there is no jumpy percentage issue like on Samsung devices(Note 5, S6E+). I don't do overnight charging though.

I use the battery charge limit application and have maxed it at 96%. Post 96% the charging automatically cuts off. so it would never over charge.
You can also set the lower limit on the app, so when it goes beyond that level, it starts charging again. I love it. You need to have a root privileges to use this app.

Hi there 10 pro users
I don't know if you all noticed but i started with oos 13 a couple weeks ago without root i had it on QHD 120hz it was pretty good to use battery latest very long lasting and always 8 hours sot so that was pretty good to have until i started to root it again wanted to check out somethings but then the horror started couldn't reach no more the 8 hours sot it was reduced to 4 hours even heavy drains sometimes drops in Hz to 1 found out that it is found in there kernel source too they are trying to prevent root or this device needs a hell of a kernel dev who can fix all this or enjoy the device how you like and how you want too use it. And to be honest my opinion don't root it you will have more fun with your device since this is dead in development
I have posted some pictures below the one with 8 hours sot was before root the rest of the pictures after root
Hi, but there is a difference...
Your screen time is not the same, so the comparison is not valid.
I'm rooted and have not noticed a drain on the battery... I have heavily debloated though.
My apps list in battery doesn't show anything anymore but this is one charge.
I didn't just leave it with the screen on either lol. But have been reading a lot on chrome.

It's subjective based on user, location, network, apps etc..
I've already advised in other threads what I've done in detail.
Rolling back AFAIK there is only one way and that's the rollback package found in the beta thread.
Debloat from the debloat thread.
I average 10 hours at least and I use my phone all day long 7am to midnight most days.

Same. I regularly only have to fully charge this device once a day. It'll last me easily from morning to night on a full charge with moderate use throughout the day. With added streaming / gaming on a lunch break, if I don't sometimes I can even get away with two work days (around 1.5 days) on a single charge.
The battery is definitely good, just need to use your system wisely, like with most tech. The fact that it charges to full in about 25 minutes is just gravy.

Yea mines about 2 days ish.. if I'm on citra or an emulator then sure it'll be a lot less but gaming on lunch will still see me through the day.
Charging is insane on this phone, not 100% if it's good for the battery or not.
Thermals for me were higher on oos13 hence why I switched back, I do prefer the look and feel of 13 but it annoyed me to have extra heat during gaming etc.
Haven't tested C.21 yet, but have heard good things.
Hi, I don't agree with the fact that root is draining battery. I am on oos13 since the first day of stable build and now on C21, rooted with xposed and 4 modules running and didn't noticied any différence with and without root. Maybe loosing a bit with xposed but I still managed to get 11h of sot (wifi and a lot of reading) and average 6h on mobile data. Also the phone is debloated.
@dladz i used to charge my phone with old 20w op3 block (no need of full speed, and trying to save battery life) but the few times I used the 80w I didnt noticied more heat on C21 than on oos12. But I don't use m'y phone while charging and always put it in airplane mode. If you want I can try some scénarios while charging and send you températures to compare

Hi, I don't agree with the fact that root is draining battery. Just run a heavy emulator like Aetherx2 running lets say Tekken Tag Tournament..
I noticed C20 throttle but not A17.
I haven't noticed c,21 as I've never installed it... Fair bit of work to get back to how I like my phone.... Plus a few mods that don't work on 13 yet

Ok i will try it. By throtteling you are just looking if the phone start lagging or testing with an app like '' cpu throtteling test ''?
I know you were talking of c20, I was saying that just for you to have some data/feedback of c21 si you don't have to try it yourself, if I can help. But yes if some of your mods don't work on 13 I understand why you are staying with 12

Ah cheers man.. You'd don't have to do that, but I appreciate it..
Then again it'd be nice for you to get Aetherx2 running.. Reckon you'll like it..
Throttling as in the device getting hot then cycling down the CPU to save it from overheating.
I noticed the dips in performance plus the heat was substantially higher on 13 than 12 just from memory.
Maybe some other heavy games could emulate this test too
