Hello there XDA community!
I have been lurking around for years, but somehow never got to create an account or use it, that's why i'm a junior member. I do admire the knowledge of many here, and how the tinkerer community came together here.
Getting to my question, I just received my new Note 9 SM-N960N from Korea, And I was gonna try Samsung Pay out, in Europe. To my surprise, it didn't work, saying I have an "Invalid SIM card".
So I checked around, but couldn't find any conclusive info on this. Some say changing the CSC would work. Some say flashing a new ROM does, but the info available isn't clear.
Especially for the SM-N960N series.
Which are the compatible ROMs? And will it help with my Samsung Pay issue? Is there a different workaround to get Samsung Pay working?
Thanks!
Flashing a new ROM certainly works but you need to find one for the Samsung pay country that's compatible with your phone model. Multi CSC devices like the 960FD are the most flexible.

How do I go about finding a compatible ROM for both my country and my phone? Also, does this trip the knox fuse, if I do it?
If 960FD are the most flexible, does that mean that's the direction I should be looking for a ROM?
And what do you mean that I'll need a relevant SIM card?
Thanks!

I also own a N960N, from what I undersrand after doing a some research on here. You can't flash a firmware from another region i.e. N960N to N960F. You can only flash a firmware from the same region. I was hoping to flash my N960N to N960F, but failed.

It's in Vietnamese, not sure it's really N960F ROM or not
This method will not work because Knox will get trip and he won't be able to use Samsung pay.
stock firmware:
you can only flash n960n to n960n ( n960f won't work and vice versa)
custom rom: (once rooted/twrp v3.2.3.0)
you can flash n960f custom roms to n960n
so any rom in note 9 development thread will work.

Yes, but if I do that(custom ROM), Knox fuse will be tripped and I won't be able to use Samsung Pay.

Hey there, might be a simple question but I can't get a straight answer.
So I have a n920i from Singapore and want to be ready to unroot if marshmallow comes up. So I checked the firmware compilation on Sammobile. The question is, can I simply install any firmware for the n920i or do I have to take the exact matching one. Like... Can i take one from Australia instead of Singapore. Because the one from Singapore supports very little languages (only 3) by default.
Here's a screen of my current software.
I believe you can. I bought my 920i from eBay which is not aussie stocks and I just flash the Aussie firmware. So far it has been working great not a single issues.
Oh, I have the Australia N920I and was thinking of flashing the singapore N920I firmware because it is the latest. Anyone do this?

The country of the firmware doesn't matter, if it is for your device model it should work fine.

Of your using the Australian one... Could you confirm that there's the German language file pre installed?
You can install any other firmware but make sure that firmware you getting matching firmware for 920i
Just check out from sammobile

I believe the Aussie is newer than the Singapore version at least that's what I have checked at Sammobile recently. Anyway I just flash the Aussie thought maybe it's better since I'm using the phone locally baseband wise.
The Aussie version latest firmware is aug. 10, 2015.
The Singapore latest firmware version is October 2015. Am I seeing this wrong?

If you just flash the firmware file using Odin you will not lose any data. I have done this numerous times.[/QUOTE]

If you are referring to non carrier then you should just install the xsa or Australia only. Not the optus or voda. By the way firmware is the stock rom you downloaded from the Sammobile.
I have the non carrier n920i Australia. I downloaded the full firmware and there were 4 files inside. Bl, ap, CSC, and cp. Do I need to flash just 1file or all. Sorry and thanks for your help

I just meant not wiping the phone or data first. I have flashed three or four firmware versions and never lost data as long as I didn't wipe.

I would flash the entire firmware. I am pretty sure if you mix and match parts of firmware it will trip Knox. At the very least it will break things like Google Play Movies & TV. At least it broke mine.

I believe you can flash different region as long as for they are the same model such as n920i or c..or g. ..or whatever model is.
And yes you are right. ..why take the risk in messing up your phone when it is better to just flashing the whole firmware rather than part here and there.
So that means it would be possible for me to just flash a marshmallow firmware if available and have done? Without wiping and stuff I mean...

You can but some settings could cause issues if you go to a different version of android without wiping (ie 4.4.x to 5.0.x or 5.1.x to 6.0.x) which is why I always wipe between versions and recommend others do so
I've got the N920I Singapore version, flashed AU FW several times, back and forth between Sing and Aus. So long as you have a N920I no issues with any of the FW. Make sure you flash using the latest 3.10.7 Odin though. Older version do not work
Thank u all for your quick and precise responses!

Hello there, here are links to firmware files for the Galaxy S9. This is a homepage for firmware of all models, and will be updated as more and more firmware become available.
Here are the download links:
SM-G960F (single SIM) -- Link
SM-G960F/DS (Dual-SIM) -- Link
Important note: As @murtaza02 mention in the S9+ thread, the OXM multi-CSC firmware is a good choice, so we are using that firmware for the SM-G950F model (Asia, Europe, Australia, etc.)
Check out his thread here for download instructions and to know more about OXM firmware, and why you should use this only if you have SM-G960F.

I'm confused
I'm coming from Europe where the only model of the the phone we use is "F" eg.sm-g955f, sm-g 965f..
I'm now in the us and I got a galaxy s9 sm-g965U1 ulocked online from the samsung store..
I then found out there is a sm-g965U... which is also unlock and unbranded for the USA... some one please tell me what difference is there between these two models... And If there is no difference why does it exist?
I'm also kinda confused with those versions of FW.
I've got US Galaxy S9 T-Mobile branded (960U), which I successfully "unlocked" right after purchase. I still had T-Mobile splash screen as well as their bloatware, but I could use my phone with any other US SIM. I didn't liked all that bloatware, so I just flashed 960U1 firmware, although I was not sure about all those "CSC" things (coming from HTC devices). Still can't find proper table with explanation of those CSC. Probably I've flashed XAR variant... At this moment my FW version (from FOTA check screen) says G960U1UEU1ARBG/G960U1OYM1ARGB/G960U1UEU1ARGB. Is it proper US unlocked version of FW or I've messed up something? I'm still using T-Mobile but I just want to get as stockish look as possible, without all carrier bloatware. Currently, WiFi calling works for me, but not video calling that was present on initial T-Mobile FW on my phone.
What is XAR in FW downloads? Why there are two T-Mobile 960U FW versions? Why there is also T-Mobile 960U1 FW?
Hey guys I note that OP states that if you have the S9 (G960F) then you should only use the OXM firmware, now I currently have that firmware on my phone but in the UK, EE does not allow 4g calling on that firmware.
Just curious if I'm missing something or is the OXM firmware the best apart from using EE and their 4g calling?
Thanks in advance
Dee

Hello,
I am very new to all this. This is my first Android phone (Galaxy S9 SM-G960F) purchased from an ebay seller to use with a T-Mobile account. It is unlocked but it is missing the wifi calling feature and volte. I was hoping to flash it to the T-Mobile UI ROM in post 1 using Odin 3.13.1 but it keeps failing. I have been reading a lot of threads so my question is am I doing everything correctly or will that particular ROM not work on the G960F model? Thanks for any help

Hi all! I bought the S10 from eBay not knowing it was the Chinese variant.
I have at&t, and it supports all but two of ATT's bands, so I'm fine there.
I just have one question: Will I be able to flash a stock ROM of a different variant through Odin? Like the US Snapdragon variant for example.
So.. No one knows? I wanna verify before I try to flash a ROM
No you will not really be able to do as you wish without substantial customization and editing of the files you want to flash.
What you are asking is as unlikely as being able to flash the TMO version with the AT&T software.. BUT.. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, unlike the other dual SIM variants the unit you purchased comes with a unlocked bootloader out of the box -- whereas all the other variations -- the bootloader is locked so you will be able to flash custom roms down the road which should cover you.
Samsung pay in a few other things those won't work as I understand it.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 PM ----------
oh and I forgot this nugget of very important information
If you flash anything other than dual SIM variant software you will lose the dual-sim functionality.
Further, I'm not sure how that might affect your micro SD card slot since the hardware is a little different on that device.
Summary: i wouldn't recommend using anything other than dual SIM variant software.
I was wrong however, from like hardware to like hardware there is a way -- see this post. an example of single Sim to single-sim how to do it.

As others have said, do not do this or you may brick your phone. The model number and bootloader are different between US and non-US Snapdragon versions. I had tried it on my S8 and it won't boot.

It is only possible to flash other other SM-G9730 models, not 973U like the US models. As there is only one other firmware you can flash, I think you can flash the Hong Kong version as it is closer to the US version than the chinese version is (Chinese and Hong-Kong have the same version)

well global firmware(if there is such a thing) would be more towards the n960f since it is more popular and also the same same chipset as ure phone. its sold in UK, greater asia, india, Oceania etc...)
the n9600 is a snapdragon chip. and only sold in china and south America.
but regardless you cant flash stock firmware on different model devices. its a known fact.
if you root then u can flash custom n960f roms no problem on the n960n.(i have it too and been flashing all sorts of custom roms made for the F variant)

u cannot flash any other stock firmware than n960n with odin.
if you want to flash a custom rom.zip , you need to install twrp recovery and root. this will void warranty and also trip knox and some services will no longer work:
samsung pay
might be others.
please read the guides and discussion forums for more information on rooting.

what do you think, because I am a beginner I better use the current stock ROM (N960N) or have to replace another ROM? actually I just don't like Korean accents and Korean network operator logos when I turn it on or trun off my device because I'm already outside Korea. then what is the ROM recommendation for me?

As a beginner the best and most important thing you need to do is research and read up on these topics.
Head over to the development forum and see what each rom offers and choose the one which sounds most suitable for you.
None of us can answer whats best for you dude only you know that.
The nice thing is you can flash and try out as many roms as you want!

well global firmware(if there is such a thing) would be more towards the n960f since it is more popular and also the same same chipset as ure phone. its sold in UK, greater asia, india, Oceania etc...)
the n9600 is a snapdragon chip. and only sold in china and south America.
but regardless you cant flash stock firmware on different model devices. its a known fact.
if you root then u can flash custom n960f roms no problem on the n960n.(i have it too and been flashing all sorts of custom roms made for the F variant)

ok. then yeah just check the dr. ketan root oem fix guide in the guide and dicsussion sections.
I too want to flash the Spanish stock ROM, so as to get rid of d the bloatware and also to use Samsung Pay. A friend of mine told me to buy the Korean version and then flash the Spanish stock ROM, which he did with his note 8 and didn't trigger Knox. I'm getting the Secure Check Fail: Bootloader error when trying to flash with Odin, it's stuck at SYSTEM flashing. Don't know what to do anymore, tried rebooting everything, changing USB ports, running Odin as an admin, and flashing different versions of Android.
Can anyone help?

you say that u bought a sm-n960n (was told to)
then u say that you were aslo told to flash a spanish firmware from a sm-n960f device.
that is very very misleading.
again, you cannot flash firmware from a different model.
your buddy gives the best advice. he is your friend. listen to him always.

Strongly agree to you ....

I know for a fact that the Korean variant of the Note 9 and the international variant both run on the exact same hardware. With the only differences being in the bloatware included with the Korean variant. So theoretically speaking installing the Spanish N960F/D variant's OS onto the N960N should work perfectly without any issues

it work only if you flash a custom ROM, even thought they are the same but you cannot flash a F/D firmware with odin in N model, it mos be a bootloader thing or something else.
by the way the n9600 is a snapdragon model so that is even more impossible.

Which ROM that could I'm using to upgrade to Android Pie, One UI.
Could I use Verizon Firmware or USC or Sprint or etc?
Please help me to understand .
Here is my screenshot about my Note 9.

I'm currently in Indonesia and using a local carrier (Telkomsel). what should I do if I want to get an update to Android Pie? Is it possible if I get OTA update? Should I remove SIM first and do the update? or what?

You can try to update using this unkown csc. You'll need to use Odin.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-9-us/firmware/SM-N960U/CHA/
But the n960u won't have all the cellular bands that are used in your country, it'll have most but not all. You would need a SM-n960F if you wanted it to be fully compatible.

ROMs wont change what cellular bands that are active/inactive
And you should be able to flash using regular Odin, but it won't hurt to use modified Odin to gaurentee that it works. I always use the modified version just because.

where can I get the modified Odin, any thread discuss specific Odin using for specific firmware? can I flash that firmware using Odin running on Mac Os, because I see Odin for Mac os is outdated.
Finally, I successfully flash my note 9 with ROM from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga.../SM-N960U/CHA/, using patched Odin and no problem appears so far. thanks
Whats the difference between CHA and XAA?? they both unlocked? Im in Portugal using a T-mobile unlocked with csc XAA. Any recomendations? thx in advance
