I've been searching tempered glass protectors for my regular Pixel 4, and some of them leave almost top of the screen unprotected, which I don't like at all. I've found one that has two holes for camera and speaker, but top right of the screen is protected, so it's over SOLI radar.
Do you think that Motion Sense feature could somehow be affected by this? I'm not familiar to how a radar works.
Thanks a lot.
It's radar, it sends out a signal and has to sense any interferences and reflections coming back. Block that it it won't work at all.
May also stop face unlock working if you block IR emitters.

Highly doubtful. It may hinder, but most radar devices are in some sort of enclosed housing.

I must say I've got that protector from yesterday, and SOLI radar and Motion Sense just work. But, I was wondering if it could affect in any way...
It definitely has an effect. I have a protector with a cutout and positioned it slightly too high, covering a small bit of the soli sensor window. That basically prevented MotionSense from detecting my hand when I grabbed my phone at very small angles. I always wondered why face unlock wasn't triggered when I grabbed my phone - that seems to have been the reason. I repositioned the protector and now it works.
So I bought a clear tempered glass screen protector, with no black edges. It had a large cut out at the top (essentially a giant notch) for all the seniors etc. However I think it is interfering with the soli radar as it no longer works with music etc ?
essentially it seems screen protectors will next to fit exactly with the radar otherwise they will cause interference!
Same thing happened to me with my Pixel 4. Bought a invisible Shield put on worked for two songs! And it stopped working.. Removed it, and is working again.
I am running a full screen protector and I have experienced no issues with the sensor. This is just a cheap screen protector that came with my case.
I can't post links yet but if you look on Amazon for sunnyw Google Pixel 4 XL Case with full screen protector you can see what it looks like.
The only cutouts in the screen protector is for the speaker and prox sensor.

Is it tempered glass, or plastic one?
I'm using a full screen protector, only cut outs are the ones on the left which the camera reside. The soli radar and face unlock works perfectly with no hiccups.

I'm looking for a screen protector that only has the cut out for the front camera. I find it unnecessary that there cut outs for the proximity sensor. on a lot of screen protectors I have seen. Anyone have any recommendations?

This one seems to have a cutout only for the camera, and a 2.5d edge to fit the our 2.5d glass. Someone else in the screen protector thread recommended it, so I just ordered it last night. I'll let you know how it works out.

Great. I might consider it. I was actually hoping to find a plastic screen protector.
Someone said in their review that the glass screen protector cut out isn't as pictured.
The only problem is the protector I received was not the same as pictured. The top of the protector was not cut as pictured. instead of having a small cutout in the center for the cameral lens, there was a larger cutout of 5/8ths of an inch starting just right of the lens going left. Therefore the lens is not covered, but there is an odd unprotected gap at the top of the protector.

Please let us know how the glass screen protector is for you. I've used one once, and it was really nice to have that sort of quality, but it started to peel off after about two months of usage. Maybe that's normal, though. Idk...
Okay so I have the device for over a month now and only now I managed to find a screen protector for it. But as soon as I applied it, the bottom part of screen won't respond to touch anymore unless I am touching the metal bezel. So basically if I try to use my phone as it lies down anywhere, I can't. I'll have to pick it up in my hand. I then even tried with a different tempered screen protector but the issue remained. Though the touch works perfectly fine without the tempered glass on.
I understand how capacitive touch screens work but I believe if the touch works fine without the screen protector, there should not be any such issue with it. Is my device defective? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm having the same problem in a lesser degree. Since putting a tempered glass, the very bottom of the navigation bar is unresponsive (while I didn't have any problems before putting the tempered glass on). I'm using a cheap tempered glass so it's been my guess that it's not a good quality product, which explains the touch screen issue.
I didn't try another tempered glass since I got used to using the top bar of the navigation bar so I don't know if the problem occurs with all tempered glasses. I bought a couple of plastic screen protectors if I get tired of the problem.

Did you try touching the metal bezel and then trying whether the navigation bar responds aptly or not. In my little understanding, touching any metal parts provides earthing to the circuit and facilitates transfer of electrons thereby improving touch function.
But I have never had any such issues with any of my previous devices.

No, it doesn't change anything. It's the first time I'm using a tempered glass on one of my devices so I don't have any point of comparison.
I don't think the Motorola Service Centre is going to be of much of a help here as the device works just fine without the screen protector on.
Guess I'll have to find some plastic screen protectors and trust the Gorilla Glass 3.
Same with me, putting a tampered glass on made the bottom right portion of the screen very unresponsive, after taking it off, the sensitivity was fine.
Anyone know of a good plastic protector?
I took off the tempered glass and put a simple protective screen and the difference in screen responsiveness is amazing. It feels like a totally new touchscreen!

It would really help if you could tell where you got the simple protective screen from.
No matter the device has gorilla glass 3 protection, but I still don't want to keep the screen exposed.

I just bought the cheapest matte protective screen I could find on Amazon here in France. I don't remember the exact reference, just that it was coming from Germany (I usually buy protective screens made in Germany, I've never been disappointed so far).
I have tried many and finally found one that actually fits. Until now the best one I have seen is the non glass protector made by Skinobi (for those that like plastic ones use it). However in the glass department they all sucked. The Qoosea one fit but it's about as cheap as you can get construction wise. It's curved but it only has a small amount of basic adhesive along the edges. So basically pocket lint can get under the screen and get stuck there. Also since it doesn't fully sit on the screen sometimes using the screen itself can be a hassle due to poor touch detection. Well all I can say is thank god Top Ace came out with one recently and actually got it right.
It's curved glass, plenty of adhesive on the side that counts and by god it actually fits perfectly. Things line up where they are supposed too. Anyway figured this deserved it's own post since finding a glass protector for this phone can be a pita at times due to the curved edges. Posted a link below, hope it helps. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3MZQTK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got mine yesterday and I can confirm that yes, this one actually fits great. I bought 2 in case they don't make them anymore when the first one eventually breaks.
From the pictures and one of the latest reviews it looks like this screen protector covers up the light sensor. Are there any completely clear screen protectors that fully covers the front?
Just read one of the comment said it covers the sensor that the phone is unable to turn on the screen automatically during a call when you put it away from your face. Anyone can confirm it?
I bought one on Ebay and it arrived and had curvy edges, but the idiots had sent me one for the full-size Xperia X even though it was in a packet marked X Compact. Way too big. Now I have to fight for a refund.

Anyone know of a UK source for these or a seller who will post to the UK on Ebay/Aliexpress etc?
I too bought one that only sticks to the edge of the phone and it's already got a piece of dust underneath it! I love being able to swipe from the edge with the curved edges and I love the longevity of glass screen protectors, but it's horrible to use as it's just floating a bit off the surface of the phone and makes a click noise/feel when I tap. I asked a load of Ebay sellers and they all said their glass curved screen protectors only stick around the edge of the phone.
Thanks.
Hi,
I found this one on Devilscase when I checked the Aluminium bumber.

Did anyone tried it already out?

Based on them saying all over the website "Please be noted the adhesive is visible on the edge of CURVED Glass Protector" I imagine these ones only have glue on the edges too.
If anyone is wondering, I've attached a photo of what happens if you use a generic glass Ebay curved screen protector that only has glue on the very edges for a fortnight! Lots of dust has crept in through the speaker holes etc - the white dots showing are all dust UNDER the screen protector. I'm going to buy a plastic one that will stick properly.
I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N8XMXGB
Seems like it just ran out of stock though.
edit: I asked the seller and they said they will not restock it, so I guess this will be the last time you'll see it.

I did. I paired it with the aluminum bumper and while the bumper is top quality as usual with devilcase products, I can't say the same for the screen protector.
The screen protector does fit perfectly but it collects dust behind it after few weeks and the responsiveness and consistency of the touchscreen are compromised.
I've been looking for an alternative to buy in Europe but found none. Topace is not an option as is in stock only on Amazon USA. If anyone has suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem and got refunded. Ordered from different seller and got the correct sized one. The item itself is bad. It feels plastic, touch is not always responsive and swipe gesture for opening menu drawer is hard. I need to really press the edge before doing the slide. Screen feel more distance and it feels there are separation between the protector and the screen.
I replaced it with a generic plastic screen protector which actually feels better, easier to make slide gesture, seems more seamless. The ebay curved screen protector is really that bad. I am going to keep using the plastic one and cut a new one to fit it more properly. I also need to check how to prevent it is being lifted up accidentally from the dangling side. I can stand the dust on the dangling side, but i hate when it is lifted up and the lint is actually below the screen protector.
My experience
This is the reference for my second e-bay cover it does not have dust and has lasted much longer than my first that did.
My recollection is that there is adhesive everywhere.

No. You are wrong. I bought one based on your recommendation and it's just another rubbish one that only only has glue in thin strip round the edges that will allow dust to creep in the speaker/camera holes and scratch the screen. More negative feedback to leave!
Why do not manufacturers produce a curved screen protector that's made properly!?! The glue can't be that expensive! [emoji36]

It seems P10 does not have display oleophobic coating, super weird. I wonder how annoying is this in real life usage..
It comes with a screen protector preinstalled.
Still... I usually don't use screen protectors. Sounds stupid not to use coating
Yes it comes with a protector, but it is a huge smudge magnet (compared to Mate 9).
I'm glad I got to try it first in a store. It's incredibly annoying and as soon as I placed one finger on the screen smudges appeared and were there to stay. Seriously you have to see it and try it in real life, the difference between this and having the usual coating is night and day.
I don't want to use no screen protector, it's ugly and it completely defeats the purpose of having 2.5D glass. Such a shame.
Horrible. I just ordered mine. I don't get it, how can a serious company skip this? And how come ONLY ONE reviewer mentioned this?
It's an odd choice, but it has not bothered me yet. I did remove the pre-installed screen protector because it doesn't swipe smoothly.
Makes sense, why keeping a screen protector when you have Gorilla 5 and beautiful design? So you haven't notice any extra dirt on the screen because of the non-oleophobic coating?

I had a P10 on pre-order with CPW but after watching several video reviews my eyes were drawn to the horrid screen protector and the way there are gaps all around it. Once I saw it, I couldn't stop seeing it and knew I couldn't live with it on a daily basis. Given the 2.5D glass, all screen protectors would have these gaps. Then I was getting concerned about future updates - I spend an unhealthy amount of time getting excited about updates, lol and there are no guarantees with Huawei.
My top two phone features (assuming all else is at least good) are camera and regular updates. This led me to the Google Pixel. I bought one on Monday - a beautiful black 32GB model which now sports an excellent Nillkin frosted hard protective case - also in black. It looks amazing.
According to Huawei there is oleophobic coating on the screen, but less than usual. Apparently it's because the fingerprint sensor doesn't work well with the coating (as the fingerprint sensor is under the glass and not a separate button as on most other phones).
I'm not a screen protector fan either...so if it sucks I will probably try to apply a oleophobic coating on my own (shark proof coating or something like that)
I should be receiving my P10 on Friday and i did order Shark Proof ahead of time just because i personally don't like screen protectors at all so i'm hoping it will do the trick.
Never heard of Shark Proof until now. Is it really working?

Huawei's official response is that they couldn't apply a full coating to the P10 display because of the fingerprint sensor. On the P10 the sensor is part of the display itself rather than a separate button and the oleophobic coating wouldn't allow it to work. The P9 sensor is on the back so I would assume the lack of a coating is P10 specific.
I tried 3 different liquid protectors on my old iPhone 5, But they're not that good as the companies say. All three, Kristall, Shark proof and Wowfixit, didn't work properly. A coin or a key in the same pocket while walking and this protectors will scratch.
The biggest problem with those liquid protectors is that you can't see them so you don't know if they're working or not.
I have a "like glass" protector on my P10 and its feeling good. The sensors on top and the finger print sensor are cut out precisely and there's only a small gap between the smart cover case I'm using and the protector.
I work as an electrician and I need protection for my phone because sometimes I have no time to think about the things I put in my pockets, but my i6S with case and glass looks like new after 1.5 years of using and I hope the P10 will do the same.
What "like glass" protector would you recommend? I tried a few protectors back in the day and I hated how it felt when touching the screen...

I have one from "dipos". It's not perfect but it's okay for 7€ for 2 protectors.
The lack of accessories is annoying. It was much easier to find a good protector for my i6S.
Tried my pre-installed screen protector.... it was bad !!!..... feels like fifty cents cheap protector... anyone can comment if remove it will be better ? the pre-installed is not even smooth to use...
waiting for the matte protector......
I removed the preinstalled protector as soon as I put my finger in it...the screen is quite smooth to use for me, though I have problems if water droplets land on it...other then this it feels the same way my old LG G5 did.
I recommend you to try it and check how it feels...at least until your new protector arrives
Troubling news for those of you who want to keep a screen protector on your phones for some extra peace of mind. According to the latest rumor, the Galaxy S10's under-display fingerprint reader won't work with screen protectors.
The vanilla Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ will make use of a new in-display fingerprint tech. It is believed that they will introduce the ultrasonic fingerprint technology that tends to be more reliable, faster and more accurate than the currently existing optical fingerprint tech.

If thatss the case then its brilliant news.
I would have preferred if Samsung made their own screen protector to support their new device.
This kinda suck as I like to use a matte protector to avoid fingerprints and smudges. What I lose in brightness and clarity, I gain back in smooth swiping.

I'm quite sure Sammy will use Ultrasonic modules only that other OEMs should have also used instead of Optical ones imo.
Personally, I stopped caring about a screen protector since S6 edge days as to get one that works flawlessly is near impossible with those curves without issues and importing something like whitestone dome is not my worth especially when Samsung keeps giving onetime screen replacement offers in my country. Also, I enjoy the screen way more than with a protector on . Having all that said, I'll be happier if Samsung actually ships with pre-applied protector as it would speak "quality".
I don't think that using glass when protector with luca glue can possibly interfere with ultrasonic sensor.
you are basically add extra mm of material.
I can only imagine the headache it brought for those 3rd party screen protector providers who already manufactured their products.

How about getting a clean cloth with lint-free feature?
With how the company in question phrased their post, it sounds to me like the company was speaking about a screen protector which is part of the case, not one which is attached to the phone, and definitely not any kind of tempered glass which you would attached to the phone. Additionally, as other's have pointed out in all likelihood the company did not use material which would support the ultrasonic fingerprint tech. They likely just made it out of the same stuff as they had before.
I can see any plastic or rubbery screen protector as well as any which do not have a continuous connection to the phone as not working with the ultrasonic tech as the sound waves could change too much in the transitions between materials (and air).

Not everyone has the chance to carry such with them all the time, especially when with a matte glass screen protector you can do the same thing with your shirt with no issue.
I read phone will come with a pre installed protector but I guess we will have to wait and see.
The Whitestone protector with the loca will work. you get 2 for $60. s10 and s10+ are the same price. Regular TGSP's wont work because of the air gap according to reports. Because whitestone uses loca, they will work. According to whitestone themselves, i quote "ONLY SOLUTION FOR ULTRASONIC FINGERPRINT – Advanced Liquid Optical Clear Adhesive (LOCA) Technology prevents micro spaces in between device and Dome Glass which makes only solution for S10’s new ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor." Whitestone was already the best choice for any curved edge phone IMO, there is no better TGSP. I've used plenty. They're just so darn expensive. Much cheaper than a screen replacement though..

I use Invisisheild by Zagg now and my husband for the 1st time doesn't have one on his Note 8 and I told him he needs one on this phone cause of the fps And If it's really as good as people say $60 for 2 isn't a bad price I pay like 25 for my Zagg only problem is I would want a professional to put it on cause if my husband messes up I'll be upset LOL!

Those should work just fine. The issue with the glass screen protectors are that there is typically a small air gap between the screen and protector making it difficult to get a good reading on your fingerprint.
