Stop chrome from opening apps from links? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know how to stop Chrome from trying to open or install an app when you click a link? For instance, I get an email from TurboTax for a monthly update on my credit score. If I click the link on my computer, it goes to a webpage. If I click the same link on my phone, it tries to install their app and I can't find a way around it.
Any ideas? I googled for a how-to and I couldn't find anything helpful. It's not a default app thing, as far as I can tell.

Try to open the chrome in desktop mode... Then click the link
Edit: just realized what you were asking... If u already have the app see if u can remove the defaults.. Also you can make another browser like Firefox as your default one and see if that makes a difference

Music Junk

Apparently it was removed from the market. Does anybody have the apk? It was a free app, and one of my favorites. I had to do a wipe and didn't backup my apps assuming I could just re-download it from the market.

It works best on wifi as far as connecting, I do get frequent force closes while selecting certain songs. Its always been like that. But for being free and what I get out of it I'm not gonna complain too much.

Sorry I am new to this. I am trying to load android market to my g tablet. I have gotten the instructions from another thread but it says to make sure I have the market working with my Google ID. Since I do not have an android phone and have never been to the android site I am not sure if my Google ID will work. I have tried downloading the android market apk from xda but if just flashes on the screen when I press it. Can someone steer me straight.

Which apk did you get? You're going to need two, GoogleFrameworkServices.apk and Vending.apk. Also, I don't think you can just click on them, but need to move/copy them to /system/app.
Jim
Thanks jimcpl
As you can guess I am still lost. I did not know I needed two apk's. That explains why the instructions for adding the market app says to turn Googleframeworkservices's off. I don't have it.
I have Googled Googleframeworkservices.apk and got a couple of listings for forms that discussed it but none of them had a download of it.
The Android Market apk I got was from this page in the xda forms

Can you or anyone direct me to the apk I need.

[Q] Google+ on Milestone

So, I got me a Google+ account.
However, I can't seem to find the app on the market or download it directly from Google's website via a link set to my phone.
Any idea why, or where we can get the .apk?

What did you search for on the Market? I searched for google+ and got it right away.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
Tried "Google+", "Google Plus", tried to use the link directly from the m.google.com/plus site, and all I get is "Not Found" on the market.

Perhaps the app is blocked in your country? Try using Market Enabler?
I think the easest way to find it is searching any app from google on the downloaded list and go to "More apps from this developer" (or whatever you see in your language)
I've founded it by this way (on Argentina), but i don't have an invitation...
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Can't think of a reason why it should be blocked, there's a Hebrew translation for Google+ and I'm using it.
In addition, on the google+ page there's a link to send the app to my mobile, and for some reason I'm not getting the SMS with the link.
Strange stuff
Please, could someone upload the apk file? I can't download it from the market because it is country restricted. Thanks!
Yes market enabler and fake vodafone uk

Market Enabler is the way to go, find it in the market, install and fake as something [US].
I use T-Mobile...
Yep, Market enabler did the job. Thanks!
Does auto-upload feature work for everyone? It seems kind of buggy for me
This application works perfectly on my milestone. I have no problem finding it in the market Maybe try download it via https://market.android.com/

Missing Download buttons!

I just installed CM7 on two NC's. I am seeing something strange in the Android App store. Some of the more common apps that I have used in the past like Astro, Facebook and others do not have a download button (or any button for that matter).
If someone can explain why and what I can do to resove this problem that would be great. A side note the NC's are using two diffrent gmail accounts.
Same and I'm using one gmail account. Also it looks like I've had a kinda old version of Facebook installed for a while (1.6.1) without marker stating there was a .2 or a .3 release. I uninstalled the app and that is how I found out about there being no download button. So it might of been a problem with some of the last nightlies as well

It's a problem with new market. Try uninstalling updates in the settings for the market.

I think it is because the new market is device sensitive, our devices show up as B&N nook colors, the market thinks we are running crippled e-readers and doesn't let us download all the cool ****.
Do what koopakid08, go to your application settings > manage applications, find the market and "uninstall updates"
New market looked crap anyway.

I followed what people said to do in this thread but when I try to edit the MarketUpdater.apk file name I get an error "Insuffecent Permissions". I'm really new to all of this I feel like I am missing some important part of this CM7 process. Any light on what I'm missing would be great!

What I did was rename MarketUpdater.apk to MarketUpdater.apk.bak by using linux on the sdcard that I'm booting cm7 off of. Not sure how to do it if you're running cm7 on the emmc.
With the help of a friend I found what I had to do so I am able to edit apps if CM7 is loaded on the emmc. I found this extremely useful so I will link the wiki that fixed my issue.

What did you fix? How?
I updated and also have no Download button. The panel that button should be on flashes white. When I uninstall updates, my old market comes back, but after I leave the market, the new one returns, with the download button. After I leave that market and return, functionality falls apart. The main page doesn't open correctly, Download button disappears, and frames become shaky. What's the deal???

LOL! But don't think I'm your new Market, to laugh at you: I'm one of the sufferers with not only download buttons being eaten by Green Dude, but also icons for previously downloaded apps missing. Mine are all free apps, but I can't imagine how people with disappearing paid apps could get refunds now.
Anyone to share his/her experiences with the best/fullest alternative apps marts? Thank you.
In app manager I turned off compatibility mode and now have all the download buttons back.

Obviously it can't be that simple, since at least a few of us have no idea what this "App manager" is...
settings
programs
manage applications
all
market
turned off compatibility mode.
Wow. I was with you to the last step. Couldn't find "compatibility mode" in the old market or in the new.

I simply downloaded super manager from the market then renamed market updater..
1. Open super manager
2. Enable root function option
3. Use built in file explorer in super manger to find market updater.apk.(should be in system apps...)
4. Rename. I simply renamed (.bin instead of apk...)
This will preventing market from updating...
Hope this helps all....

Searched, seems that feature is available on MIUI only. No lucky with stock CM7.

Link No Longer Opens in App

Hi - Please forgive me if this question has been addressed elsewhere. I searched the site but couldn't find anything on this issue. I recently upgraded from the Galaxy S4 to the Galaxy S6 Edge. In my old phone, when I clicked on link for post in Instagram for example, the link would open in the Instagram app or I'd be asked when I app/browser I wanted to use to open the link. In my current phone, this no longer happens. The link only opens in the browser with a message saying get the app from the Play Store even I have the app on my phone. Does anyone know why this would happen in the Galaxy S6? More importantly, does anyone know if there is a way to get links to open in the app I have installed instead of the browser?

Not sure what to tell you, I don't have any issues. Kinda annoys me to always have to answer what app do I want to open this with.

My old phone did that, it asked and let me select the app for default. My new phone asks but only gives me browser options not apps. I'm sure it's some weird setting somewhere that is the culprit but I haven't found it yet. Thanks anyway!
