Hello guys!
I m a very happy user of my diamond and this forum...
I was wondering if there is any application that would allow to record using and external mic , plugged in via a usb - 3,5mm jack for example.
Then i can stop carryin my Iriver h340 thats getting pretty heavy!
Isn t there a tool that can also update date and time automatically ?
Thanks in advance and big up for all the cookers!
As far as I know, the Notes application is able to record from an external mic just like the fixed mic. Just go to Menu > View Recording Toolbar.
There are several applications to sync the time, can't think of any off the top of my head.
The supplied headset has an external mic in it, you should be able to hack into it and solder on a jack socket, then plug in any mic. In theory you should also be able to do the same with a BT headset.
You need "synchrotime" to correct time and date via the internet.
these were quick answers!!
I was more thinking about recording rehearsals and concerts , so more like a dedicated application were u can choose the sample rate m and also the format for ex wave or mp3 plus a gain control...
ttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnxxxxxxxxxxx
Pardon me for digging up old bones, but I've been searching for an answer to this for a bit now...
Like the OP asked, is there an app out there for recording audio from an external mic plugged into the 3.5mm jack? I own a Samsung Galaxy S (Fascinate) and know that the hardware side of this topic is covered.
The only "Notes" application I have is notebook. I have audio recorder, but that doesn't have any such settings to choose from an external audio source (and I've tried to see if it just switches to that source if it is plugged in, no luck).
This would make life so much easier for me if I could pull this off. I'd pay for a decent app that covered that.

In a twist to this question/ request.
I am and have been looking for an app also that will be able to utilize the external mic 3.5 mm jack to record audio to the built-in video application.
NATIVE! not hacked or Jerry-rigged. I tried this by plugging in a headset /mic to the external mic port on an EVO and HTC Incredible and it still seemed to use the regular mic on the phone not the 3.5 mm jack.
I'd like to use my incredible/ EVO/ (and rumored HTC Incredible HD) to be able to connect a lapel mic with transmitter and receiver so audio sounds local without echo from a distance.
Plus I could have 2 people miced up and one video camera.
There is no reason why this shouldn't work.
We are not talking power just software access.
If the notes apps uses it to record why can't the video app use the same port.

Way to record audio on Android using external mic
Hi.
You have to buy adapter which will split the signal for microphone in and audio out (you probably know 3.5 jack in your phone is 2 directional as it supports headset with mic)
You can try to look for it on Amazon (headset buddy)
or solder into headset in the pins which are responsible for mic signal.
Then,
I know only 1 app for android which supports recording from external microphone:
Arabela Audio Recorder - choose DEFAULT audio source and it should catch the signal from external mic connected through adapter via 3.5 jack.
I THINK it can catch the audio while recording video because it works in background ... so later you will be able to remove the audio from video recording and join it with the one you recorded using Arabela with some kind of video editor
regards
If you need a adapter for the phone, then check what i did here in this thread:

There are also link to a app which can record video with the external microphone

I think any mic with 4 pole jack should work without any adapters. Like the one's used on iphones etc. Check on ebay for iphone microphone. I ordered a cheap one $1.80 just to test on my SGSII but im 99% it's going to be working. There are some high quality for about $30 as well. Like this one HERE
I unfortunately use a HDMI to DVI cable for my video as i play on a monitor in my room. Sadly i have to use a bluetooth earpiece just for sound and it is annoying. Internalizing a speaker would NOT be ideal for game play but better than having to pair every time just for sound... My idea was get a regular speaker solder it to the audio pinouts from HDMI. is this possible? i have google for so long and could not find the pinouts for the pic i posted. I dont want to mess up considering how small they contacts are.... and my soldering skills not so great... I wanna get it done on my first go thanks for any input!

Those aren't analog audio outputs. You'll need a DVI audio breakout box if you want normal audio out. But honestly $120ish will get you a nice 24" with hdmi in nowadays.
Perhaps a cheap Bluetooth speaker? Mine pairs automatically and doesn't require pins or anything... Even the first time.
Same situation but probably a little more comfortable.
On my android stick MK808 I've seen people use a USB sound card with audio out. May work the same.

Get a bluetooth adapter, it'll allow you to hook up any speakers to it via AUX cable. I do this with my laptop to my stereo. The only problem is I got bad lag on sound via bluetooth with the OUYA, not sure why.
USB Audio devices are just $9, but you'll need a ROM that supports the drivers. I couldn't get them to work on the stock OUYA ROM, I could get it to work with the CM10 ROM experimental using a patcher.
Otherwise, a HDMI/DVI breakout would work. Or a bluetooth to aux.
They really should have included a headphone jack. Guess they wanted to cut the cost of an amp/jack.
USB audio is definitely the cheapest way to go, but it may be a while before the ouya officially supports it.

bluetooth to AUX works but there's a bad delay, so it really doesn't work with gaming. If it's for movies, programs like XBMC has a syncing feature and for music it wouldn't matter.

Well, I'd hope Ouya includes the drivers in an official update for USB Audio devices. It is kinda a needed thing for a lot of people who want to game with headphones, not all TV's (especially low-end ones) have headphone/LR out.
My TV *does* have it, so I can break out the signal that way. But for when I don't want to use a screen (ie: listening to music, etc.), I have the USB Audio to allow that without leaving the screen on.

Most likely it's just your TV settings - it probably doesn't support ARC (Audio Return Channel) as I don't see it mentioned in the Quick Setup or Manual.
If that's the case, you need to run the Digital output from the TV back into your receiver. See page 66 of your TV's Quick Setup (which IMO is a better "manual" than what Samsung calls the manual).
Set your TV's Speaker Select to External Speaker. It says that on TV Speaker it should have sound out both the TV's speakers and external output, but at least on my Sony TV and Sony sound bar, having both on produces a strange echo effect.
(See page 53 of your TV manual)
Also check on your receiver that the HDMI port has been properly assigned to the input that you're using.

I actually think this is a problem on his Amp side....he did say that he tried plugging into the Amp directly and got the same result.
If his TV doesn't support ARC he could use an Optical cable from the TV to the Amp and that would work.
But he might need to check the Audio settings on his AMP for that particular HDMI port.
Not sure about the devices he says works but I wouldn't expect a IPod to plug into the same HDMI plug he was trying to use and most older Sat boxes usually use an Optical input instead of the HDMI.
And you can change the Input on most Receivers to set what Audio source to take from be it optical or HDMI.
He should check the settings for that particular output and see if the Audio is set to HDMI.
Many thanks guys for your help but its still not working, I haven´t tried an optical cable because I need to buy one and they are about 30-40 euros here, and I thought audio should run through HDMI.
The chromecast is from the USA and I am in portugal will that make a difference?
Here is my setup....Chromecast plugged into TV, HDMI cable plugged into TV and run to receiver (3 HDMI ports on receiver, not sure which one is correct, but have tried all three I think!!)
Have tried with TV speakers and external speaker settings on TV.
I have tried the HDMI menu on the receiver.
Will an optical cable be the solution?

Ouch, that's horribly expensive. Optical cables should be US$10 or less, though you can definitely spend more. But optical cables do not need shielding the same way electrical cables do.
Not sure where you are, but here's a quick search on Amazon UK for price comparison

If you hear audio on your TV, then yes, the optical cable will solve the problem by sending the decoded audio from the TV back to the receiver.

Yes Optical would solve your problem, The wiring you described would only work if your amp and TV support HDMI-ARC which really requires a more recent TV and AMP. That port is usually specially marked on both the TV and AMP side.
I'm betting most of the cost of that cable is in the shipping.but Ebay has a slew available that would bring the price down.

Many thanks guys the optical cable worked straight away, I managed to buy one local for 15 euros, was worth it!
One other issue I have come across which you may or may not be able to help me with.
One of the things I want to do with chromecast is run karaoke videos from YouTube, I have a mixer the microphones are plugged into but I found the optical sound was overriding the sound. I have sound from the tv (youtube) but no sound from the microphones, If I unplugged the optical cable I lose sound from the tv and get sound from the mics.
Is there a way around this?

Not sure and I´m not with it! Will post tomorrow.
Not sure thats possible because the Chromecast takes the content directly from their servers if I'm not mistaken.
You would have to take the Output of the Audio from the TV or Amp and Mix it all Post Chromecast.
Easiest way....
CCast into TV, TV into Mixer, Mic into Mixer, Mixer into Amp. Amp to Speakers
If your mixer has an Optical Input that can be mixed all the better but most likely your going to be Analog from the TV to the Mixer.
You CAN get a box that will pull Audio out of an HDMI signal to analog as well but it's overkill since the TV will give you the same thing already.
Sounds like it might be a mix of analog and digital in the path. Will wait for tomorrow's update.

Hi,
I got used to Samsungs CarDock mode which allowed to charge the phone and play music through USB port directly to my car stereo (no BT,:crying: ). I used the iBolt XProDock ( here ) which is amazing.
Now I have the M8 and figured out that analog output is not on board. So I am looking for a solution:
a) A BT-receiver for my car audio, optimally charged with max 5.0 V via USB plug)
b) Any digital to analog converter (dac?), but not too much gadgets to be supplied with power and cables
c) A second earphone-cable ?
d) A software solution to get analog sound from USB?
Any suggestions?

BT FM Transmitter it also charges phones at 1A
If you have an AUX input, get a stereoclip.. Uses APT-x codec for cd+ quality sound. Lasts about 6 hours on a charge.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Bluetooth...qid=1396896640&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+stereoclip
APT-X Bluetooth codec actually sounds better than USB analog audio output. No engine noise or light clicks/background noise going on.
And it's a much higher quality than normal Bluetooth.
BUT, some apps are not yet APT-X friendly.
Utter being one of them if I remember correct.

Sorry, how could that affect the idea of APT-X in my car? The One M8 works with APT-X, and when the BT-receiver also does, shouldn't any music player work fine? I use Player Pro, and this app works fine over regular BT. Is there a difference with APT-X?

Like I said, "some apps".
Yes, APT-X is handled differently somehow.
All music players I've tried have worked just fine though.
I think it's more "voice controlled" bluetooth related apps that sometimes have problems.

Update 15.04.2014:
I bought a tiny BT-Receiver / (even with transmitter, which I don't need), here.
Works like a charme. Thnx for your advice!
Apt-x
APT-X cannot be used with just any device. In order to get full potential from apt-X you need to have AAC audio files which the HTC one m8 support and will give you much better sound then mp3. Also APT-X can only be used if the speakers support apt-X as well as the phone. If your phone supports apt-X but your speaker or stereo does not then the APT-X will not work. There are only a handful of speakers and stereos that support APT-X. But like I said APT-X supports audio at a higher bit-rate, then standard Bluetooth, and higher then a docked iPod. For good audio performance you need both a phone/player, and speaker/stereo that support APT-X on both ends, and you might want to load some songs from a CD in AAC format onto your computer to give you that CD quality sound, or buy some songs from HDtracks.com , to play using APT-X. But also the HTC one M8 should have gotten the lollipop 5.1 update which supports usb audio/host. So I would check and see if you have lollipop 5.1

I'm planning to use the shotgun mic for videos so I wouldn't have to get a label but if I can't make this work, I doubt a label would.
I've only tested it with my mic so I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or not since I tested the mic on my PC and it works just fine. I hope this is not a hardware limitation.

Not sure what you mean by "a label" (maybe a lapel mic?)
Also I'm not sure if my post was clear that the mic function of my wired headset works fine.
Suggest you have a look at the poles on your microphone jack. Fwiw my headset has 4 poles, though I couldn't tell you which is which.
It tends to be that poles 1 and 2 are left and right audio, 3 is ground and 4 mic - it's possible that Xiaomi use a nonstandard set up on their devices but unlikely.
Depending on the poles on your mic you could probably pick up an adapter plug to switch the poles about or else use insulation tape to blank off some of them

I used open camera. go to setting and change audio source to external mic. The default app doesnt let you use the external mic is a shame. I am creating a video checking the quality of the mic right now, will post it in a day on my youtube channel trouvaille -by Aamir
This is the best Android app for recording audio (interview etc), also good for video shoots to edit & sync later:

I have the same problem on my poco f1
I tried using my lapel mic, boya mic, shotgun mic all mics faiked to tecord soubd through external mic. The video gets its sound from intetnal mic by default. I ttied all settings but no use.
Its a shame we are not able to use external mic on such a device with good video capapbility.
Not tried any third party apps yet. Plz suggest the besy one that really works.
