Android Auto Assistant drive mode - Android Auto General

I need to find when the new google driving mode in assistant is going to release. I like the new interface it's nicer and a lot more pleasant to the eyes.

Go into setting and tick "try new Android Auto"View attachment 4862309

Android auto messaging

Anyone else having this problem?
Using nexus 6p fully stock running 6.0.1 on the latest android auto.
Problem is when a new message comes in and it is read or replied to, it still shows new message. So when you get lets say 5 messages from the same person it keeps reading them all from the beginning. So I have to hear the whole conversation every time.
I have looked at all the permissions and all in the 6p but nothing works.
Thanks
+1 on this. I'm also having the same issue. Also with a nexus 6p stock 6.0.1

hah. I was hoping this thread was longer and had an answer as I'm having the same issue.
I have a Nexus 6P w/ 6.0.1 stock but rooted. Phone works fine and I use it with a Pioneer 8100NEX w/ the 1.05 firmware. I'm not sure if it's Messenger that is at issue or the version of Android Auto currently out but I had to listen to 12 messages from the wife to get to the new one before I lost my patience and unplugged the phone from the head unit .. marked the messages as read through Messenger and reconnected it.
Are you folks using Google Messenger, Hangouts or another app? Is Android Auto just not able to mark the messages as read in the message db? I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm using Google messenger. I contacted google about the issue and they said they are aware of it and are working on a fix from there end. I can see an update to android auto soon with the issue resolved

I wonder if this bug is also present when using Hangouts as the SMS/MMS client or if it's AA accessing the sqlite db where the messages are being kept. Any idea?

No idea but if I had to guess I'd say it's to do with AA accessing messages. I've also noticed when you give AA notification access it automatically turns if off again so I'm guessing that's also part of the issue. I also asked if google planned to implement the ability to use "ok google" instead of pressing the voice button. The AA team replied saying it's also something they are looking at. I think this would be a great feature then you wouldn't have to take your hands off the wheel at all
Nn
I'm not sure if that's better or worse than what is going on now.. Only the first received van be read, the rest it seems like it's reading but stays silent.

Google assistant

Ok so I've managed to get Google assistant working. It's so much better than Google now. But I can't get the always on part of it to function correctly.
It always asks to relearn my voice.
Is there any combination of zips or custom ROMs where Google assistant works as it should?
This seems like such a great feature. I'd love to be able to use it as intended, obviously without having to fork out for a pixel.
Play Store app called chop assistant, gets rid of that training screen

Not on play store that I can see but here...

Sorry for the late reply.
Cheers guys. That's working great.
Now if I can find a way for it to operate even when the screen is off, I won't have a reason to change to a pixel at my next upgrade. Lol
Cheers again.

Automatically display Android Auto on car screen when connected

Hi,
As I'm going to move from carplay to android auto in a few weeks I'd like to ask every user with an android auto compatible headunit a simple.. maybe silly.. question
When connecting my iphone to the car headunit, it automatically switches to the carplay source and displays carplay. This for every maker video I've found, Pioneer, Kenwood.. the behaviour is Connect the phone->switches to carplay automatically.
The question is.. does Android auto do the same? In every video I saw the phone when connected displays a screen like "touch android auto icon on your headunit to start android auto". I'm starting to think that by design android auto wants you to manually select it from the headunit screen... :|
Would someone tell me if there's a setting in the app? Or share his/hers experience?
I'd like to know expecially how it works on anything not from Pioneer (Sony, Kenwood or manufacturer specific like Seat, Honda).. Is there a way to switch automatically to android auto on connection, like carplay does?
From my experience, my phone automatically opens and uses Android Auto when I plug it in. Only exception was the first time it connected, as I had to allow it permissions on the phone.

Apple in their arrogance pushes you to use it..Google assumes you want to choose. Me I want to have AA auto start on the hu. Honestly they should provide the user with the choice to auto start the interface app on the hu.

Me too. So it is as I assume, android auto doesn't autostart :| (only on pioneer headunits it does, but it seems a pioneer choice)
I found an interesting option in the developer settings, you can enable video focus on startup, the result of this setting is that the screen on my skoda columbus headunit is switch automatically to android auto. Without the setting I have to go via the menu to see this screen.
To enable developer settings, google for 'how-to-enable-developer-settings-on-android-auto'

Can't find this setting in Developer Options. Can you tell me what version of Android you're using and the specific name of the option? Thanks.

Developer options in the Android Auto app, not the main Android settings.
Tap 10 times on the blue title bar in the about screen to enable it.

Thanks! I've been looking for a way to do this for months. Works perfectly with my Pixel XL and VW MIB II system.
I've posted this solution on several other AA forums and credited you with the find.

Is there also any kind of command (ADB, Tasker...) to request video focus on Android Auto?
A similar question:
Isn't any way to auto start screen2auto? I see that android auto can start in sygic automatically. If i rename internally screen2auto, to same name as sygic, and Uninstall sygic, is there any possibility to work, and auto start in screen2auto instead of sygic?
Thanks,
@sosimple
This sounds like a good idea.
Did you try that?

WhatsApp on Wear 2.0?

I just updated to 2.0 after my holiday.
I was under the impression that with AW 2.0 I would be able to view photos and reply with a keyboard in WhatsApp, but I can't find both options.
Is that possible now or still not?
Not on my watch...
Gesendet von meinem ONEPLUS A3003 mit Tapatalk
Not sure about the photo's as haven't really checked but replying is there, you should see a reply arrow at the bottom of the message preview.
It does seem a bit buggy though, doesn't always show up, if it's not there let it go back to watch face and try again.
After you hit the reply button you should see the reply options, far right is the keyboard option.
Stock keyboard is a bit small and cumbersome but you can use a replacement one.
I'm using TouchOne and works fairly well although some people had issues getting it to show.
you can find it by opening play store on your watch and searching for it.

Thanks, but I think you need to link it to an Android car unit somehow. I don't have one, so I don't see any option on my phone to switch to Waze

I'm using Android Auto on my mobile phone, only. I don't have an Android Auto car unit. So, when I run Android Auto I can only use Google Maps, not Waze.
More:
https://www.xda-developers.com/waze-is-now-available-on-android-auto-in-car-units-only/
So I'm looking for an unofficial way to do it.

Officially, there is no such option, unless you connect the phone via USB to an Android Car unit.

You lose waze voice commands if you run it through aa. Waze aa is more limited due to the driver centric rules google has for aa apps.

Maybe it's a bit late, but if you install Waze 4.37.0.3 beta from apkmirror (h t t p s : / / bit.ly / 2ksFskg ) it works on phone with Android Auto.
Bit late here, but I've found that if you open android auto then tell it to look for compatible apps you can go to the play store and load waze from in there then go back to android auto and have it recognize it.

Use HeadUnit Reloaded on your phone and you will be able to run Waze inside AA.

Thank you so much! This worked right away, and now I can finally start using AA again.
I installed the latest Waze beta (4.41.0) on my Galaxy S9+ running Oreo. I didn't do anything with AA, and it recognized Waze as an option the first time I ran it after installing the beta. I just wish I had found this sooner.
