Sometimes de camera button is unintentionally pressed in my pocket. I dont like to disable it. Does anybody know if the camera stays on until the battery is depleted or is there a auto shutoff after a while.
I just tried turning the camera on with the button then just leaving it. It reverted back to homescreen after a minute or so, then my normal display timeout applied.
How do you disable the camera button on the side of the phone??

I can't imagine that you can change such things without root.

If you activate the camera from off (locked state) the phone will just return to the lockscreen after a short period. So no harm.

Are you sure it is the camera button that is pressed and not tap2wake + tap on the camera icon on the lockscreen?
The reason why I'm asking is that for me I have to press quite hard on the camera button in order to trigger the camera, but it only takes three gentle taps on the bottom of the screen to start the camera.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
I use a thight pouch case and thought it pushes the button but tap2wake might be the cause. I will try without to see if the camera stays off. Thanks.

As the above poster said, open camera app, go into settings, and turn quick launch off, this disables the physical button on the side, and removes the camera button icon from the lock-screen.
Hope this helps.
Yeah i tried that.
But then AS you said the camera shortcut dissappears... And i use it quite often thats why i asked for a similar solution.... Without dissappearing shortcuts..
Thank you

Apologies, i mis-read your post, i thought you wanted it fully disabled.
Sorry
Ok I'm feeling a little dumb lol. On thr AT&T variant, the fingerprint sensor is not waking up the device when locked and screen off. Am I just missing a setting somewhere?
The international version works just fine to wake up and unlock screen, but the AT&T version doesn't.
Any input?
Works for me

My att note 8 works as expected with this. Maybe a setting i forgot about enabling. Perhaps power save more disables this ? Are you using power save?
Edit- tested with power save. This doesn't seem to be the culprit.
Ok there's a setting where you scan in your prints. It's a toggle you must enable. That should do the trick.

Yup it's under lock screen and security then smart Lock. You wanna select the first option and it should automatically unlock to home screen when using your fingerprint.

Screenshot didn't come through, but if you mean the fingerprint unlock toggle, yes I have it on.
Could you fix the problem?
Could you fix the problem? I bought Galaxy S9+ AT&T version and it seems has the same problem.

The only way I could get it to work was to set screen to lock immediately with power button. Can't remember the exact setting title, but I think it's Settings/secure lock settings
Basically if you set the screen to lock as soon as it turns off it'll trigger the fingerprint to turn on screen immediately.
It worked!!! Thank you very very much. Really appreciate it. I was one step farther to return the phone.

I just wanted to say thanks. I flashed my unlocked Note8 with the AT&T firmware to see if it is worth the bloat. On the unlocked firmware I never had to make that change, it was always on. I don't know why I didn't think to check that setting and I don't know why AT&T would set it to ten minutes, there are so many things that can happen in ten minutes. Thanks!
My screen timeout is at ten minutes but the screen dims and turns off after 10 seconds and it's incredibly bothersome when trying to read an ebook for example. Have you encountered this? Any suggestions?
Edit: not a Always on display problem
Place AOD on schedule? So, not always on

It still dims after 10 seconds with the always on display off. Do you know of any setting that could change this in thynote9?
Are you using some power saving mode?
Doesn't AOD dim after a while after awhile so as not make the pixels burn unevenly long term? Just use a clock if you want it to be on long.

The problem is the screen dimming after ten seconds not the AOD display. I turned off the AOD display and it still dims too fast.

No,
Does this setting possible have anything to do with it. It used to be default 5 seconds for most phones. Is this possibly interfering with the dimming?

GO to Settings, advanced features and select 'Smart Stay' to on position.
Your screen will time out to whatever you've set it in display settings, but smart stay will stop that happening if it know you're watching something

That is better than before but still not what I want. I basically want the phone screen to be on until I turn it off or the amount of time I put on the screen timeout elapses. Is this just impossible on this expensive device?
Hi,
I'm afraid the max is 10min in screen settings.
The only other way is in developer options, then 'stay awake always' but this only allows this during charging(plugged in)
To enable dev option, you need to go to settings/about phone/software information, then tap build number around 7-8 times

This app is incredibly useful though I am worried about the battery usage. I'm going to use this. Thanks a lot!
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knows if the phone is in standby and the screen is off can you just touch the finger print scanner to turn on and unlock, or do you have to double tap and or hit the power button first? ! Also, if the AOD is on can you just touch the scanner to unlock? I figure AOD should let you and lift to wake would work. Just not sure if the screen is off if you need to go through an extra step to get the scanner to work, as I don't have my unit yet and can't test it all. Thx!
screen off, yes you can just touch it and it will unlock. no need to wake the screen.

Awesome! Thank God. As I had seen videos on YouTube that showed people hitting the power button first to initiate the screen on then touch the scanner and I was aggravated if that was the case lol :highfive:

Yeah I think they're just trying to fully demo. It works screen off, AOD mode, screen on... whichever way you want it. Since its not optical it doesn't need to light the screen

That's what my gut told me.. thanks for clarifying and reinforcing my thoughts and Hope's! 2 more days and I can play, ceramic white S10+ 512 baby:fingers-crossed:
Hi,
So when I get a call, that I do not want answer or decline, I switch off the screen by pressing the lock button. As soon as the screen turns off, it lights up again. It bothers me a lot. I thought maybe I'm using the finger to lock which has its fingerprint registered. So, I tried locking it with other finger and the result remained the same. When my phone rings, I want my phone's screen to turn off when I press the lock button but it does not do so, not completely because it lights up again immediately.
Is anybody else facing this issue? Is there a way to fix it? I did not have this problem in my previous phone. So I guess it is an issue and not a part of normal operation.
Thank you!

Try removing all the registered fingerprints , just use A Pattern/PIN and check if your issue is solved. Do report back.
