Anyone having issues with Adaptive Brightness? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I've always loved this feature as it usually is spot on with my habits with my P3XL, but unfortunately with the P4XL it's nothing short of terrible.
At night it will crank up my brightness to 80-100 percent, and it broad daylight it will lower it to 0. Both of which quite frankly piss me off. Either I get blinded in the dark or I can't so much as see what's on my screen.
Anyone else?

No problems here. You can try reseting it by clearing the data under Device Health Services. Go to clear storage and you'll see the following. I "calibrate" this way and set my brightness to 0% in a pitch black room.

Thanks! I'll give it a go, I was just curious because I've never had it be this off before. It made me thing there's possibly another underlying issue

On my Pixel 2 XL I've had it randomly stop adjusting a couple times but this always fixed it.

Nice Night Clock or Always On Watch Face

I started using this for my night table when charging at night. I'm not too sure how it would do with battery life if you use it as a watchface but I'm planning on testing it.
It has great brightness options. You can dim it for night use by swiping gently down or raise the brightness by swiping up. The little details in the lighting are nice. When you dim the brightness you see the shadows of the digits and days of the week. The disappear when you fully brighten it.

Can anyone alleviate my fears that the image would be burned into the screen after extensive use?

I agree, that will probably be a problem.
I had a Galaxy S3 that burned in badly after leaving it lit all night for a few months on a nightstand.

I was wondering about this too. My wife's phone which is a fairly recent moto model had terrible burn-in just from basic use. You can see her homescreen apps pretty clearly.

Can someone take a low light test shot please?

Considering getting N5 for the wife. One of the main reasons she uses a smart phone is the camera. My S4 takes HORRID low light shots. They are more noisy than girls when Justin Beiber shows up at a middle school.
http://patentlystupid.com/sw/2013-10-05%2014.40.31.jpg is a good example, as you can see the subject is darker than the background the phone was stabilized on the arm of my chair I was sitting in and there has been nothing else changed about the pic. How does the N5 do in low light situations?
Thanks!

Under my desk at work before sunrise. Too dark to read under there.
Edit: I tried to take a comparison shot with my Nexus 4, but it was mostly blotches of black.
Took this one last night after sunset. Hdr+ was turned on. Honesty I think the camera is quite good for low light still photos. Much better than my note 2.

So far its looking like low light is as noisy as S4. I was hoping with the lower res camera there would be other camera improvements. Hmm...
Best low light camera I am blown away

Sense 6.0 coming to M7 by end of May

:victory:
Why the hell did they get rid of the zoe slider in the gallery app... scrubbing back and forth quickly through a sequence of photos was a pretty fun feature in some situations. My gears are grinding.
Just a quick update for everyone.

Wow, they're not wasting any time. It's already in certification stages, and we all know who'll be getting through that first. I wonder how long it'll take for Sprint to greenlight the build for us?
I'm excited. If it's anything like the ROMs that were released then we're in for a great surprise.

I'll withhold my comments regarding team venom based roms. With that said, this is a custom ROM, so this may very well be their own twist on it or a feel good feature or a modified version to get around the alleged hardware requirements. If it is a feature in SENSE 6.0 from HTC for the M7 though i will be thrilled.

As far as I know there isn't a hardware requirement for HTC extreme power saver since all it does is disable all background apps and disables mobile data. Samsung's power saver does have a hardware requirement for the black display saving power since that's for oled displays

Screen whites not bright??

My pixel 4xl whites seem kinda of dull if that makes sense. My redmagic 3 screen really pops compared to my xl. I have adjusted the display settings, and it just seems...well dull.

It's one of two things:
1. The screen is only around 430 nits in brightness so whites might not seem that bright.
2. The screen is rated a white balance 6600 kelvin which is close to the 6500 standard. Many screens run cooler as seen in the screenshot.

It's definitely software limited because if you're rooted, you can enable a high brightness mode that's 610 nits. It's most likely capped at 430 because of obvious battery limitations.

If you're used to the cooler temperatures of Samsung displays, then yes it can appear warm/yellow. It's been rated at 6610k white balance while Samsung's S10 is 7102k in vivid.

Yeah, I use it. I think it mitigates the screen tint issue pretty perfectly and makes the display look a bit more professional/polished.
