Miui 11 & android 10 - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hi respectful developers,
I bought Redmi K20 Pro from Australia, on the back of the device it is labelled as Redmi K20 pro but in the about phone section it is Mi 9T pro as prior to exporting it to Australia, exporters unlocked the bootloader and installed the global MIUI 10 (see snapshots).
Now the question, will this device in my hand get MIUI11 and Android 10? If yes, when? Will this update revert the device to the Chinese MIUI 11 ROM? If yes, how to get the official global MIUI 11 for the Redmi K20 pro?
I am currently residing in Egypt and would very much appreciate your good technical assistance.
Regards,
Mohamed Atteya

Basically they flashed 9T global ROM in your K20 pro. Which further means the bootloader is unlocked, if yes, you will still get OTAs when they arrive and you will be able to install them, OTA will come of same ROM and not of a different region so rest assured you won't go back to chinese.
HOWEVER. If you will use miflash tool to flash any other region's ROM, MAKE SURE you DON'T check on CLEAN ALL AND LOCK option in bottom right corner. Only check CLEAN ALL. This is because locking a bootloader with different region ROM installed bricks your phone.

Try to change your region to other country like Spain or Germany, reboot your phone and check your system update (updater).

Regarding when you'll get OTA, it will eventually come as per their dates

Advice Mi 9T Pro or K20 Pro Global or K20 Pro China

Hi,
I'm french and I need your help to make a choice between a Mi 9T Pro, a K20 Pro Global or a K20 Pro China.
I already now how to root, flash etc. but I'm not sure if it's more interesting to buy a K20 Pro in China version to flash a cleen Global Rom or to buy a K20 Pro in Global version which need to flash a China firmware before flash a Global Rom.
What should I do ?
Thanks

If you don't need HD streaming in Netflix, no Banking apps, and band 20 (or other global bands), then Chinese variant can be an option, probably cheaper than other variants.

If you’re tight on budget then buying K20 Pro Chinese model would be the cheapest option. If you have those extra bucks, then go for Mi 9T Pro. You could also buy the K20 Pro global version but that is only sold in India for now. All those chinese sellers claiming to sell you a Global variant are just fake. It would be a Chinese K20 Pro with a fake global rom on it.
You could anytime flash a Global rom on the Chinese unit but the only caveat is that you’ll have to keep the boot loader unlocked forever.

The biggest thing to consider is probably if you need LTE band 20.
The Chinese version will be considerably the cheapest option.
Even though the phone display is FHD+, you really won't see any benefit in watching FHD contact on the phone, so having Widevine L1 is not really worth worrying about.
You can overcome most security issues with banking apps buy using Magisk and installing appropriate modules to pass safety net.
If you decide to go with a Chinese phone, then it would probably be best to get it with the Chinese ROM and then unlock the phone yourself, then you are safe should you accidentally relock the phone later.
The main questions is this:
Those of you who have bought K20 Pro and are using it in Europe or somewhere else, are you facing significant drops in LTE signal? Please specify if you live in city or rural area.

So if I buy a K20 Pro I will never relock the bootloader ? Should it be a problem for something ? I actually never relocked a bootloader on my previously phones.

The problem with the unlocked bootloader is that it causes the phone to fail the SafetyNet test. Many banking apps won't work if it fails SafetyNet checks.
Using certain Magisk modules can hide the fact the bootloader is unlocked from the SafetyNet checks.

There is no global K20 Pro, only Chinese and Indian. The Mi 9T Pro is what is sold globally. Just install the Mi 9T Pro global ROM found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/rom-miui-10-global-t3963699/post80169909

Those ROMs, from top to bottom are Chinese, European, global, Indian and Russian.
I guess the Russian release is due soon if the ROM has already appeared.
The European, Indian and Russian ROMs are slightly modified versions of MIUI global and so are considered as global ROMs by Xiaomi.
Edit: just took anther look and, going off the file names, I guess they aren't full ROMs, looks like someone packaged up the latest vendor and firmware images into a single recovery zip for each model.
Cannot see the point of this. The k20 pro is cheaper then the mi9t pro. Normally people want to go the other way around flashing global to a a k20 pro.
If you want chinese just get the k20 pro and get rid off the mi9t??? ;p
yes you can, make sure you already unlocked your bootloader

I got some doubts.

Hi, i couldn't find a thread like this so if there is any sorry. I'm going to get k20 pro in couple of days, so i got some questions.
Can i install mi 9t pro global rom on k20 pro(i see that xiaomi eu rom is for both k20 pro and 9t pro).
And custom roms(like aosp, pixel) are they compatible with both versions of phones or they are made individually.
I hope you understood what i wanted to ask.

The two phones are essentially the same hardware, and SoC, yes you could potentially flash the mi 9t pro's Rom on the redmi k20 pro.
The Mi 9T Pro is meant for European markets and comes with band 20 that is required for those regions, specifically.
To install ROMs like Pixel Experience or AOSP, they're based on Chinese or Indian firmware, so you'll need to install their respective fastboot ROMs to use them, not at all complicated just look around on the forums, and you'll find guides to install the custom ROMs.

No I would suggest you to use the mi flash tool and download the fastboot rom to get to the global version of miui 10 for k20 pro. You can get it from mifirm (google it), and use the rom in mi flash tool much easier, but you have to have an unlocked bootloader first

Only if you have a global phone. You will hard brick the phone if you try and lock the bootloader after flashing a ROM that is for a different region to the phone. You can only successfully lock the bootloader when the phone has the stock ROM that is for the same region as the phone.

BIG FAT NO, Your K20 pro bootloader cannot be locked with a Global ROM in it, you'll brick it.

I think the lesson here is,

xiaomi is s-h-i-t at updates.
Just go with OnePlus7/pro/T/T-pro whatever if you value your money, phone and security updates.

The lessons here are.
Don't listen to people who clearly don't know what there talking about.
If you want a locked bootloader and save between $100 - $300 over an new OnePlus phone, then buy the phone for the region your in. European phone in the EU, Indian in India and a global phone for anywhere else.
If you want to save between $200 - $400 over a OnePlus phone and can live with an unlocked bootloader, then buy a Chinese K20 Pro.

Again as has been mentioned many times, you want to make sure the phone you get is compatible radio, and bandwise to the region you live in.
For example in Canada, the Chinese or Indian Redmi k20 pro, has some of the bands required to run, but msot importantly misses band 20, and a few others that would make it much more well suited.
So for this reason the only version that will work is the Mi 9T Pro, either the global version or the EEA version meant for European markets.
To check for compatibility region wise go to kimovil (google it) and make sure it works in your region. Otherwise it's not really a phone of any use if it doesn't function as one in whatever niche area of the world you may happen to live in.
Do your research, and avoid expensive regrets, good luck :good:

Version confusion, Ads, NFC, Update

So here I've gathered some information found in the internet but I still have some confusions. Please help me.
RAPHAEL - K20 Pro - XXXCNXX - Chinese
RAPHAELEEAGlobal - MI 9T - XXXEUXX - European
RAPHAELININ - K20 Pro - XXXINXX - Indian
RAPHAELRUGlobal - MI 9T - XXXRUXX - Russian
RAPHAELGlobal - ??? - XXXMIXX - ???
Which region is RAPHAELGlobal and what's it called?
Which region has call recording?
Which region gets updates fast (except China)?
And lastly I know that the Indian variant has no NFC but I don't know if all the others have.
Just buy a k20 pro/mi 9t aka Raphael and install miui.eu for the best stock setup without ads, with nfc, call recording.
There's only two models Raphael and Raphaeli. The latter which is Indian and without nfc.

The global version is for all others regions that don't have a specific region ROM and is for the global version of the Mi 9T Pro. You might want to call it global Global.
Europe and global ROMs don't have call recording.
So far, for MIUI 11, India came first, then European, global has not got a MIUI 11 release yet. But there's no guarantee that will always be the same order in future.
All other versions have NFC.

The phone is Mi 9T Pro outside of China and India.
Yes, you can flash any region ROM on any region phone. (So can flash a global ROM for the Mi 9T Pro onto a Chinese K20 Pro.) OTA updates will continue to work.
You need to unlock the bootloader to be able to cross flash ROMs from different regions and you will not be able to lock it after. You will brick the phone if you try to relock the bootloader with a ROM for a different region installed.

They only brick their phones because they forget to change the flash option and so accidentally lock the bootloader. I have pointed that out in my above post.

Hey guys I'm new here. I just bought the k20 pro second hand and it's my first xiaomi phone. It is raphael with the MIUI Global 11.0.2 Stable on it (11.0.2.0 QFKMIXM), it also says mi 9t pro on the phone model. I just write to you all I see I also believe it has unlocked bootloader. As I see the current global update should be 11.0.3, I was wondering if my phone will automatically update to it or if I have to do it manually. I'm a newbie and I would prefer automatic things...
Second question: is there any difference between the global and eu rom? I mean should I consider to use this one instead for any reason?
Sorry for my ignorance, thank you!
