The camera app ... controls my soundbar volume?? - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Please bear with me, I'm not kidding and this is the weirdest stuff.
I have a nice tv in my living room, but the sound is 'just' a Katana X soundbar that I used to connect to my PC in the past. Recently I noticed something completely bizarre: I was trying to take a cat pic (cat sitting in front of the tv) with my P30P and the volume of the soundbar exploded. After going near-deaf and looking really, really stupid I did some experiments: When I open the camera app and roughly point at the tv / soundbar, the Katana rapidly increases in volume as if I'd press the "Volume Up" button on its remote.
I do NOT need to take a picture. It's enough to just open the camera. Trying to explain this wacky behavior I .. assume that's the auto-focus / depth sensing or something? Just to state the obvious: This is NOT intended and doesn't happen with other handsets (say my gf's Samsung S9).
Questions:
- Is this an issue that came up before, for anyone?
- Is there any reasonable way to report that as a bug to Huawei? As in - a way that's actually reaching them?
TL/DR: My P30P is a 3rd party remote control for my soundbar with only one button, 'Volume+', that is fired constantly as long as the camera app is active....

Maybe when you use the camera application the IR blaster sent signal to your sounbar....

While I've never experienced this before, I can possibly guess why. The Time-of-Flight sensor next to your cameras transmit pulses of infra-red light in order to map out 3D shapes. While the exact wavelength of this signal is designed to be different to most IR remotes, it's possible that your soundbar uses a non-standard IR frequency that matches the ToF transmitter, resulting in it misinterpreting your camera as the volume up command on a remote.
Do you use your IR remote for controlling your soundbar? If not, a temporary measure would be to use opaque black tape to cover the IR receiver on the soundbar.

Thats not a bug! thats a feature!
only if we could control it to use as a IR blaster and universal controler.

what will make the Kaiser better ?!

I know the Kaiser is not out yet, and I know for fact that I will be one of the first buyers, because the Kaiser simply rocks
But lets face it! what do you guys think is missing in the Kaiser (tytn II), and makes you wish to have in the upcoming successor (tytn III maybe)
for me, this is my wish list:
1- SiRFIII not A-GPS (SiRFIII seems more sensitive, A-GPS takes too much time for initial fix based on my experience with the Trinity)
2- A built-in flash for the camera for night shots (5 MP would be nice also)
3- VGA screen (this will soon become a standard in all devices i think)
4- Blending the screen edges or level with the device body in a manner similar to the HTC touch and enabling the Touch-Cube
5- FM Tuner
hmmmmmmm not so important also but would be nice to have a 3.5mm or 2.5mm jack for stereo headphones and not being restricted to the mini-usb.....
For me, I would like to see the following:
1. VGA output via USB (for connecting to a data projector)
2. Support mobile TV standard like DVB-H
3. A flash light like that in Hermes, so that I can use it as a torch at night.
well I already said im getting one to replace my ill fated 8125. But here is a short list I would have loved to see this phone have but sizewise no way it would of fit in.
Fm radio
Video out
VGA screen
sterio speakers
A flash
standard headphone jack
Built in HD of 4+ gb (apple has more then proven it can be done so do it)
GPU of the GeForce flavor
A cdma chip to match its GMS set up make it a true world phone
Higher res cam 3.0 is nice but still fairly weak
Toss those into the bad boy and well yea it would be just kick ass.
+4gb HD
+1GB Ram
VGA
TV tuner
FM tuner
+1ghz processor
multitouch screen
very bright xeon flash.
IR port. (for using as a remote for my TV)
+6mp camera (even tho it already has a good camera)
Louder, clearer, stereo speakers with bass.
I only want a VGA screen!!
Why have a 4G HD when you can have a 4G or more micro SD card. MicroSD consumes less power and easy to move around and replace. With a HD, you are stuck with what it is. No upgradability.
And for the camera, it is the marketing people who want us to believe more pixels equate better photos. What we really need is a good quality lens and CMOS sensor. That is what makes good photo. My Canon Powershot S30 (3 mega pixels) produces much better photos to the many 6 or more M pixels photos from other cameras.
vga screen and tv out. nothing else..

I agree ... big time agree
Phone manufacturers are fooling all of u with the pixel game... they dont talk much about sensor and lense because they know what the result will show.... not to mention the zoom .... one excuse in the past that cell phones have no optical zooms because it will make the phone bulky ... well this is maybe true in the past ... but one look at sony's new cybershots DSC-t100 for example will tell you that everthing now is changed
My wish list would be:-
FM Radio
3.5mm audio jack
VGA toughened touch Screen which is also flush to make it easy to clean
Camera flash which doubles as torch
Infrared (I know it's a bit obsolete but I currently use IR on Vario 2 (hermes) as my TV and Sky remote )
Don't want much do I
Oh yea Nicky flush screen is a good one.
The Hermes suffers from screen misalignment mainly because of the dusts getting into the sides!
But the Kaiser should have a 3.5mm audio jack via an adaptor cable like the Hermes.
my dream is a kaiser exactly like it is now.....
but with a weight of 120 max 130 grams
1. FM Tuner
2. 3.5mm "standard" audio-out port
3. VGA Screen
4. Few mms thinner and narrower!
my wish list for the Kaiser II
VGA screen
Multi touch screen ala Iphone
3.5mm head phone socket
USB host
IR which will operate TV etc accross a room
Battery life of a Nokia 6310
Wake from standby on receipt of SMS, MMS, Email, IM
Webcam functionality
Network share folder
Camera flash
Reliable alarm
Decent carrier supplied ROM.
Twin sim slots
Ability to multitask eg. TomTom, MediaPlayer, IM and phone call simultaneously.
Oh and I want it to weigh next to nothing, be droppable without scratching and to survive being dropped in water.

lol The water one is a good one, I have lost two phones now by accidentally dropping them in water .. whoops
Sounds like you might be a little unlucky with your current phone though because my Vario 2 (Hermes) already has a reliable alarm (albeit with 3rd party software) and has no problem waking for SMS, IM etc... it isn't too bad on the multi-tasking front either .. ie. media player and Tomtom running simultaneously and streaming all via A2DP to my headset .. didn't think that was too bad going although an incoming call can throw a spanner in the works sometimes

well let me rephrase what i ment.
6mo Cmos Camera. the same quality as the kaiser but higher resolution.
and for the HD, yes i thought about that, but ROM is much faster than a storage card usually. so actually i'd like 1-4gb of Rom.
I only want
* decent quality finish (it should not peel off in two weeks)
* for christ's shake, ANTI REFLECTIVE SCREEN
the rest is okay.
Many have asked for 3.5mm audio plug for Kaiser for use with headphones. I think I have read somewhere that audio coming out from the USB port would be much cleaner than the 3.5 mm analog audio port. Reason is the USB port is digital so there is no need for the digital to analog conversion. Hence the USB headphones are in general preferred over the analog headphone if audio quality if a prime consideration.

I didn't think an anti-reflective coating was possible for a transflective screen??

yes, it is. i had heard an dread the same. which is why i want the usb audio port. i remember the 2.5 and 3.5mm slots would break or get stuck, but usb would not do that. plus it would be much faster, no need to wait for it to switch profiles and lag your phone.

Volume control(front/rear fade) and sub out not working.

I have a panlelo head unit and for the most I'm happy with It, but for some reason the sub out doesn't work which I can live with I just used the rear left output.
But I do have too much sound coming out of the front speakers does anyone know of a volume/equalizer app that lets you control the front and rear fade?

[IDEA] Use iris scanner IR led as a remote control transmitter

Alright boys and girls
An idea.
We know that there is no Infra-red output on the Note 8, (unlike S6, s7 etc) rendering remote control apps useless.
However, there is an infra-red diode on the front of the note 8 for the iris scanner.
In our house we have infra-red controlled dimmer switches for our lights. Upon messing around having far too much time on my hands, I have managed to get our dimmer switches to respond to the Note 8`s iris scanner LED. Meaning when I have my case open, the lights dim and go up again.
What are the chances of being able to manipulate this LED for a remote app. It seems pretty powerful, dimming our lights from across the room. Can make a vid if anyone wants to see - pretty basic stuff.
Could the LED on the front of the Note 8 be switched (pulsed) fast enough do you think? ie 34khz / 38 khz to enable use as as an IR remote control?
There is obviously an API for accessing the IR diode.
Any thoughts?
Pretty sure it's locked up for security reason.
Samsung obviously say it isnt posible:
http://www.samsung.com/ph/support/skp/faq/1126303
Pd:I also miss the ir emitter from my note 4. It was very usefull for my arduino control proyects
Yes I have seen that. I think Samsung are assuming that it isnt possible as they only provide the API for off and on maybe?
It would involve manipulating the LED at a high rate
After all, all a remote control is, is the light turned on and off really fast (ie 34000 per second / 34 khz) in a set pattern to align with the requirements of the receiver / tuner.
Would need to be rooted obviously with kernel level access.
I may investigate further. Samsung say it isnt possible. That means it must be!
Just read in another post that this isnt possible because the hardware. Ir control remote leds wavelength is tipically 940-950 nm, and IR led for iris scanner is emitting in 810nm. That is why we can see clearly a red dot in the led, I didnt see anything in my note 4 with my eyes (only seen it throught any IR sensible camera). Anyway I will build a simple ir reciver with a PIC when I finish my finals next month in order to check if a IR reciver can get some information with the IR emitter. Hope is the last that we lose hehe

Forget the red dot.
There is actual IR that is completely invisible. Take a photo of your Note 8 from another handset. There is clearly IR in the 900nM range. Use another phone camera, it transverts the IR into visible light.
I do not mean the visible red light you can see when using iris unlock. I do not even have iris unlock / face unlock enabled and it is there.

Hi,
I would like to ask if it has managed to solve somehow. ?
I'm currently tackling the same problem.
Note 8 turns off the remote control of the lights without wanting.
It can not turn off

That invisible ir you are speaking of is part of the proximity sensor.
Just throwing a suggestion, the heartbeat sensor also uses infra red, so we might be able to use that too
This looks really promissing, we have iris LED and heartrate sensor LED, both infrared, this is xda FFS we can do it!
well guys, proximity sensor has an IR LED as well, and almost every phone has a proximity sensor. but still, there's no way to turn all of them into IR remotes till now...

Phillips Hue with Google Home

Haven't bought a Phillips hue yet, but planning on changing my whole lighting system with Phillips hue. Now I own a Google Home mini, and a Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant. Both are connected, but will I be able to turn on the lights with both assistant? I use the Lenovo Smart Display as like a main console in my living room, because the screen just gives so much more features than the home I have. The camera shutter feature is also life-changing. Makes me feel more safe and less paranoid lol. Both are connected, I was wondering if it can connect with both assistant? Has anyone tried?
both are using google assistant which is mainly web based so both should work with your hue lights once they have been paired i have hue with my google home mini and they work like a charm
I'd actually recommend against doing whole house with Hue bulbs. I have them, and after doing a whole house conversion I think that getting smart switches is a much better way to go.

I see applications for both and I do have both. I splurged on a Leviton Z-wave dimmer switch for a couple of lights cause the Hue bulb price for that type of light was a little too rich for my blood. However, the individual bulbs do give me more granular control. For instance, I got a Hue motion sensor and hooked it up to two different lights in two different rooms so they act as night lights. There are uses for both, think it just depends on what you want and where the lights are imo.

Outlander 2008 with rockford for gate, android tesla

Hi, I bought a tesla-type android screen and everything works except the steering wheel control and the rear camera.
the rear camera is the one of manufacture, in the connectors of the screen there are several loose cables, I do not know if it will be for the control at the wheel so that the air conditioning is shown in the player, attached photos to see if someone an help me, Many thanks.
