touchscreen issues - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Hey
Is anyone having issues with say the top 1/4 of the top of the screen
Occasionally and I cannot reproduce it on command. The top 1/4 of my screen stops responding to touch. I have to turn the screen off and then back on and then it will work fine.
Software or hardware issue?
Anyone else notice this?

Nope. I would try a factory reset at this point and see if it still persists. I think you were also having issues with deep sleep right? If that hasn't been resolved, I'd do a fresh start at this point, especially if you have a possible HW issue on your hands.

Already figured the deep sleep issues
As for the touchscreen one. I have done a factory reset. Same. So thinking its hardware at this point

I would contact support ASAP and get a RMA sent out to you before they start shipping out refurbished devices.

Well it would be thru the carrier. As I got it via my carrier. So I'll be visiting them tomorrow for an exchange

Good luck! I hope you get a defect-free device!

So this is frustrating
Best buy refuses to exchange. I have to send back and be out of a device for 5-15 business days.
Google support is the same
Or I bring to a repair facility. Which is BS. The device is less then 30 days old
So far no support that is actually acceptable.

Google isn't the same... I don't know where you got that - at least, if you purchase it from the Google store. I've exchanged the original pixel 6 times (they had a lot of issues with microphone) and the pixel 3 xl a couple times. Google has always done an advanced replacement so I'm never without a phone. The only thing they require is a hold on a credit card until the return is cleared.
That's one reason I like Google so much and could never go with something like oneplus or htc. That and Google could care less if you root your phone - warranty is still intact.

Since i got it from a retailer (and not the google store), the only option presented to my by google was:
1. send in for repair/replacement, no device sent to me first (advanced replacement)
2. bring to authorized repair center
Bestbuy warranty was the same, except no authorized repair was provided, only to send in the device and wait for it to come back to.
Neither provided me with advanced replacement options, even when asking or offering to place a credit card hold/deposit.

Unfortunately this is the case if you don't buy direct from Google. I experienced this the hard way last year with my pixel 3XL... I had a Pixel 1 and 2 XL from Google and loved the advanced exchange program. But when I bought my 3XL from a vendor (because Google were out of stock) it becomes a little annoying being without a phone when you have a warranty issue... Just chalk it up as a lesson to be learned and next year get it from Google directly.

Makes me worries now as I purchased one today via best buy, unlocked, non carrier version.
@OP, was yours also purchased at best buy?

So is it a carrier branded version? And not the unlocked variant?
Side note : if you have a uBreakiFix store, bring it in, online is saying it's a same day repair

It's unlocked.
Went to bestbuy to do the upgrade instead of the carrier store.
I have a ubreakifix nearby but that's not the point. I shouldn't have to do a repair on a 30 day device. Should be a swap out. Not a repair.

If you did the upgrade, then you must have gotten one of Carrier version (Verizon, att, etc)
You said you went to BB to do the upgrade instead of going to the carrier store, which service is it?
BB also sells the pure unlocked version, Im not sure if carrier branded upgrade offers the pure unlocked version as it's 'upgrade'

Ahh I understand now. Yeah lesson to be learned for next year! Sorry that sucks

Yes they do. No devices are allowed to be locked in Canada. Against the law now.
Its frustrating. Regardless. It's a manufacturer device and I'm stuck with either being out of a device for days. Or repairing it

Horrible customer service w/ Verizon abt antenna issue.

I have had the LG G2 for a year now and I am experiencing issues with coverage. I am dropping calls or just not receiving them at all lately. I had verizon open a case about this last week which they promptly forgot to handle. Today I called back and asked for the results of the claim and was told that Verizons tech believed the issue was my phone, not the network.
I was then told I needed to have my phone replaced and the replacement would be out of warranty. Essentially..If it happens again, it's solely my problem. Being that this was a horrible offer I declined and stated I would want at least 6 months worth of warranty to cover the device for THIS issue alone. I was told a supervisor would call me and later she did. She refused a 6 month guarantee (on this issue alone) and asked me if I would be interested in resolving my issue by joining their edge program.
YEP! They suggested I essentially pay full retail for a phone to ensure this did not happen again. "Try another phone! It's an issue with the G2!", they said.
I don't want to be long winded, so here is some of the chat I had today. This is the 4th person I spoke to.
Cody: Thus far my option have been - Receive another LG G2 and hope it does not have the same issue (which would be fine if you all would allow me a warranty insuring a replacement if it did) or pay full retail for another device through Edge. Those are not great options.
Eliza: Thank you for that information! Please allow me a moment to access your account.
Eliza: I have an option for you, but it will require you to pay full price. Are you familiar with our device payment plan?
Cody: I'm being offered to pay full price to replace a device that Verizon acknowledges is faulty...
Eliza: This is similar to our Edge program, in that you will make the payments over a set amount of months. The Device Payment Plan allows those payments to be made over 12 months. Would that interest you?
Cody: I am not paying full price to correct an issue that Verizon has determined is not my fault.
Eliza: I understand. The only other option in this case would be the Certified Like New Replacement. I am sorry I don't have a more suitable option for you at this time.
Cody: Can you offer me a guarantee that the device will be replaced again if I have this same issue?
Eliza: No, I cannot. I can however assure you that this issue is not common with your device.
Cody: You're telling me "Hey, we understand that this isn't your fault, but you are still somehow fully responsible for the solution. You may have a phone that is possibly going to do the same thing..OR you can pay full retail for one"
Eliza: I apologize that we were unable to find a solution for you today. I will document your account with what we have discussed and gone over. Can I answer any other questions for you today?
Anyone else dealt with anything like this? I have loved this phone, but this is ridiculous. I cannot make or receive calls about 20% of the time & my G/F will be right next to me having no issues with her phone (iPhone, Verizon).

My suggestion just have them send you a replacement chances are it wont have that issue. If it does you can cross that bridge when you get there but if it does solve your issue which I am certain it will. No need to truly worry about the what if at this point just have them send you a replacement and then deal with it if the issue still exists.

No problem. I do believe the phone they'll said you will at least be warrantied by LG so if something is wrong you can go that route maybe. I may be wrong though but I'm almost certain a manufacturers warranty is in place even for replacement phones

I work for VZW support. Our warranty under the certified like new program ends at the end of your original 1 year period or 90 days, whichever falls later. If you get a replacement sent on day 364, you are covered until day 454.

Sounds like you are describing a soft brick.
The only way I was able to recover from such thing is by performing a hard factory data reset,
yet this is usually only used as a last resort.
Hope my tip of the day (or night) helps.
I had this issue since 1st day I use this phone, I have used all 3 different firmware released by Verizon. Before I update to latest firmware. I performed factory reset and wiped all data. then install the firmware by Odin.
still phone is restating randomly, even few minutes ago.

Since you have always had this issue, I am thinking it is just an annoying bug.
I remember having a similar issue with The Droid Ultra. Nothing I did would fix it.
I brought it to Verizon and they replaced the phone no questions asked.
I suggest you do the same.
Thanks for the reply! I bought this phone off the ebay and it is UNLOCKED and I'm using UltraMobile right now.
Do you think Verizon will give me a replacement?

Ten months after I bought the Droid Ultra from Verizon the phone bricked. I brought it to one of Verizons corporate stores and they replaced it no questions asked. Eight months later it happened to me again; they replaced it no questions asked. Since your phone is still under warranty I believe they will do the same for you (especially if you let them know how upset you are).
If it's unlocked you can try, but it would depend if the ESN originated from Verizon I would imagine. They aren't obligated to warranty a phone you didn't buy from them or from a partner store on their network. Your next course of action, I would imagine, would be to send it to Samsung and be out of a phone until it's repaired (if Verizon doesn't work out for you).
Thanks for the reply from both of you! I already contact the Verizon and they said they will NOT provide support since this was purchased from a Third Party.
They suggest me to Trade the phone and get a new one. I bought it for $600 and Trade value is $510.

Sucks that they only want to do a trade-in. I am rather surprised. Losing 90 bucks through a trade-in sounds better than using a phone that doesn't work. It also sounds cheaper than paying a guy to repair any hardware or software issue.
I agree, $90 isn't a bad loss at all. I'd go for it right away before the possibility of a value drop. Best of luck and keep us posted!

Lease and easy pay only? That's stupid.
They no longer offer a two year. Anyone on a new plan that two years gets a subsidised phone charge.

Thank you so much! Forgive me, but I do not know all of the jargon/ acronyms used in that post.
we have two lines on a family plan that have g4s (1 yr left, phone purchased from amazon, and just got them back from LG warranty repair), can we just walk in and ask for an early upgrade (and will the employee know what we are talking about or do we need to direct them to look up some sort of memo)?
Also, would we get to keep our phones or do we have to trade them in?
Thank you so much! Until I saw this we were thinking about having t mobile buy us out...

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll check it out. It seems weird that some customers would get the offer and others would not... thanks again though!
Is there a date on this? I was told it expired via the Sprint reddit.
I was in there today, and they said that the offer has expired. But they also said they are re-working the offer, and it may be coming back. I'll keep you guys updated!
Is sprint telling people that the phone has a defect on the phone
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Just got a call from my local Sprint store today wanting me to come in and receive an upgrade from my LG G4 to a new phone. First, Sprint never calls me. Second, I shouldn't be eligible for an upgrade yet. And finally, I didn't even purchase the phone from the local Sprint store, I got it from Best buy. Anyone else get a call like this?
I'm in the same scenario - 2 Sprint G4's with 1 year left on a 2 Yr Agreement. Haven't heard anything from Sprint. My phone bootlooped and was handled by LG Warranty about 4 months ago. Other line still somehow hasn't perished yet, so his is SOL if his phone bootloops (cause LG warranty is over by August 1st - possibly mine too, I don't know if the warranty extends if your phone bootloops and gets replaced or not, can't remember). We got our phones through Best Buy as well. Nothing yet hear.
I would love to hear about some kind of early termination option tbh because I wanna get a S7E. Not going to LG ever again after this phone. Had everything I wanted but it's just been kind of a letdown. At least LG's warranty repair service was fast (at least for me).

I believe anyone who had the device replaced by the defect easy getting targeted for the offer.
Don't you like how if your phone has the known issue, but you don't know about it or forget to get it replaced before the end of your term, you have to pay a damage fee for the known defect?
just got off the chat with sprint, it is still available if you are
"Yes, that is correct. Normally, it will only be hotter than normal if being used while charging. But since you mentioned that you are just using it as normal and not when charging, I highly suggest that the device will be physically checked by our dedicated Sprint store technicians. Yes, we currently offer advance exchange for the defective device via Repair or Warranty Exchange process, however, based on the offer, it only applies for LG G4 Device won't power on, power cycles, or freezes / fails to boot up."

My device was already replaced last month due to the bootloop, would I still be eligible now?
Considering my device just bootlooped yesterday I intend to call Sprint about this because chat seems clueless, thanks for posting this.
would they let me simply terminate the lease and return the G4 phone without getting a new one? I want to cancel the line the lease is on.
I talked to Sprint and after talking to a couple reps they agreed to terminate the lease and let me upgrade to a different phone if I paid $100. It would usually take one business day but considering my phone is currently out of service they got it to 4 hours.
Unfortunately after a hour of talking, exchanges are only available. Lame. I even mentioned about our whole family has lg issues and we have been with you (sprint) over ten years and you cant or wouldnt contact us, but you can send me a stupid survey text everytime we call. Then i was told i could get the ugrade date reset for 100.00.

Pixel 4 XL repair headaches

Purchase UNLOCKED Pixel 4 XL 128GB Black from Best Buy on release day.
About 2 weeks ago I noticed that the microphone wasn't working in headset mode. It would work in speakerphone, however, it still sounded garbled.
Had it repaired at uBreakiFix and they replaced all of the microphones. This still didn't fix the issue. uBreakiFix isn't allowed to replace mainboards so I had to send it in to Google. Google refused to do an advanced exchange since it wasn't purchased from the Google Store leaving me without a device for a number of days.
Fast forward to today when I receive the phone. I immediately notice that the text and display size are very small. Sure enough when I go into Settings -> About -> Phone & hardware it says Pixel 4. OEM unlocking is now grayed out in developer options as well. Good news is that they fixed the microphone issues.
When in recovery I see:
google/flame/flame
When going into the bootloader I see:
Product revision: coral MP1.0(NA)
I guess my only option at this point is to send it back once again and pray.

I read your post a couple of times and some things are not made clear. Did you or did you not get an XL back? Easy to just say definitively because of the phone dimensions. Which carrier are you activated on? If you had an unlocked phone from day one (receipt for unlocked), that is what Google should have sent you. Their bad. Get on the line with Google. Since they sent you the phone, they owe you a resolution. If they either sent you a 4, or a carrier locked 4XL, then THEY should now cross-ship you a new phone. Just remember always being polite, but very persistent with Google support will usually get you sorted. Good luck.

Thanks for following up and sorry I wasn't a bit more clear on the initial post.
I received an XL back (my phone to be exact - has a small mark that I remember). Same IMEI, etc. It was repaired by a 3rd party company (Cynergy).
I am on Verizon.
I do have a receipt for unlocked thankfully.
On the phone with them now. Great suggestion as I only did chat before.

Just curious how many days it took to get your phone back from Google?
I also purchased from best buy.. Worried about having to go through mail in repairs
OH and also, were you on the hook for shipping fees?

Sent phone out 12/11/19
Received by Cynergy 12/12/19
Shipped back on 12/13/19
Received 12/16/19
All in all it was very fast. The weekend got me twice with regard to receiving the package to send back the phone (they insure it). The 2nd time was that I didn't send the phone in the same day that I received the return kit. The speed was great for a standard exchange situation.

Did Cynergy fix the issue you were having? Hopefully they didn't scratch or ding up your phone. Every time I've gotten a refurb replacement from them it's always had lots of scratches on the screen.

So I initially went to uBreakiFix to try to repair. They replaced the mics, however, couldn't replace the main board. That didn't work.
Cynergy fixed the mic problems I was having but flashed the phone with a Pixel 4 image and the bootloader was locked. This is despite the device being a Pixel 4 XL. Phone was in the same condition as when I sent it in.
After lots of bickering and reaching out to contacts I was able to get Google to replace the device due to the multiple issues.

Question Reaching a dead end with Google Support

I'm here because I don't know what else to do.
I ordered a Pixel 7 from the official Google Store on October the 7th, received the phone on the 15th, and discovered right away that the rear cameras aren't working. I tried everything but it was clear it was a hardware issue. I called Google Support. They went through many steps to try and fix the issue but nothing worked. So I was prompted to get a replacement device. I sent my phone back on the same day with UPS, and 2 days later the phone reached its destination (I have a proof of delivery). And since then I got complete silence from Google.
I already talked to them twice, inquiring about the whereabouts of my replacement device, or the whole replacement process, but I got nothing. My RMA status page on the Google Store website is empty, doesn't show my returned phone nor my replacement device. Yesterday I went through the 3rd phone call with Google, was told that my case will be handled by the Pixel management team or so, and that I should hang up and wait for an answer from them later.
I just left off the chat with Google Support again. They told me that another agent is already working on the issue and that I should check my email. I haven't received any emails, of course.
It's been more than 2 weeks since I placed my order for this phone. Is this what I get for ordering their new device on the announcement day? And what other steps can I take in order to get my replacement device?
Same case than you but the problem was bubles beetween frame and screen.waiting for a solution.
1 week and no new notice.
i think someone is stealing packages or something between destination and the store or something. This is not normal...

May I ask where do you live? I'm in Germany and I've read on German forums a few successful RMA processes, but I have no idea why this is happening. If it's really stealing then it's not the customer'd fault, is it?
I am waiting on a full refund from Google for the Pixel 7 I had to send back with a dead screen.
They actually received the phone back within 24 hours but despite them having the phone back there has been a deafening silence for 5 days now.

My phone was also returned from Germany to Poland.
Wow that's interesting cos Pixel is officially not released in Poland. That's why I ordered mine on Amazon Germany

Now I wish I had done this :/
Still no refund and Google support has been of no support.
I have called them twice now in as many days chasing this up, spend ages on hold whilst they "check things" only to then be told it has been escalated to a higher tier of support and they will email within the day and to wait until I get the email - I have heard that line twice now in as many days.
I have told them if they have mislaid the phone or it has gone walkabout then that is not my problem - I have signed proof they got it back

Get the credit card company involved see what they say,
Be careful disputing the charges. Google has deactivated the associated account of people that have done that in the past. Everything just goes poof.
Use that as a last resort.
Hit up @MadeByGoogle on Twitter. They will engage you via DM. I have had good luck with that method.

I have actually been doing that today and they are just as useless.
First they tried to send me back to phone support after I told them I had tried that twice already
Then they asked me to send the details over via DM only for them to then tell me the same as phone support "We have escalated to one of our specialists who will investigate and be in touch via email" - no one gets in touch, no emails, nothing.
Totally useless.
Finally google returns me the money today.15 days to finish the nightmare. So patetic

Good to hear you finally got your money back.
It should not have taken that long though.

Google store has notoriously terrible support. Just the other day they literally told me to go take my business elsewhere because I wanted to get a pixel 7 pro.
A friend of mine once ordered a pixel phone and he got a pixel box with no phone in it. He spent hours trying to prove it and work it out, the shipping weight was off so there was hard of it and right there, but Google refused to do anything. Lost a customer for life over that.
Just a general FYI, if you RMA anything with almost any company using the device's warranty, the replacement is "refurbished” i.e not brand new.

Yes I had that happen before with them trying to fob me off with a refurb in exchange for a phone which was just weeks old.
This time I told them I just wanted a full refund as I only had the phone 3 days before the screen up and died on me.
I had issues with the P6 and now issues with the P7
This whole thing has left a real bad taste in my mouth and I can not see my self buying another Google product again after this.

Yep, the only reason I bought my phone through Google was the store credit + Google One 10% and even then I was crossing my fingers hoping nothing was wrong with it because I know first hand and second hand what a nightmare it is to deal with their Store support. I think the phrase "Too Big to Care" applies to Google.
I could have gone to Best Buy and gotten a $200 credit there (same phone trade in value offered as Google Store) and in retrospect, I probably should have done that since Google Store only offers overpriced accessories ($90 for a Wireless stand charger!?)

Let me get this right. You sent the phone back on 15th and it took 2 days to ship (17th?). And you got your money back 25th? Which means your phone was in support center for just over a week?
For me this is totally normal, never got my phone back in one week if it needed maintenance.
And I know that Google can be a piece of fieces, I've fought with them about my Pixel 3 for 5 months. That was long. Week? Nah bro, you're fine.
