problem with booting miui eu Mi 9 PRO 5G (crux) - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi!
My phone: Mi 9 PRO 5G 12/512GB.
I unlocked the bootloader,
Installed the TWRP from here https://unofficialtwrp.com/twrp-3-3-1-root-xiaomi-mi-9-pro/
Installed Xiaomi EU from https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi...MI9Pro5G_V11.0.3.0.PFXCNXM_v11-9.zip/download
And I have a problem. The system charges 1-2 minutes and then restarts to TWRP. Each time the same thing happens. Installing the system again didn't help.
Do you have any idea how to fix this and start the system?

only data? or system too?

format, not wipe, that's mean all data in your phone will be erased, including internal storage, u must backup all data 1st

hello,
Will a separate topic be opened for Mi 9 PRO 5G?

Next time just follow the official guide from ROM Cookers.
As kjllmeplz said, DON't wipe. Just format Data partition and never wipe System.

I'm very much interested in this. Where/How can a new device forum be opened?

go to twrp
format data
format internal storage
install zip to usb stick

Hello all,
I live in Spain.
I also have the Xiaomi mi 9 Pro 5G bought from aliexpress last year (chineese Rom but in English).
What are the advantages of using an EU Rom instead of using the Chineese Rom ? What will I gain ?
Somebody wrote that the 5G is limited to the chinese operator and can not work outside of China because of the Chinese Rom? Is that correct ?
Is there a step by step procedure to change it to the EU Rom (no global rom available yet?) ? What are the advantages of using the EU rom over the global Rom ?
If I do so, will the official updates be installed automatically later on? I don't want to brick my phone
Many thanks in advance for your replies.
Cheers

TWRP Procedure Check!

Hey, I want to make sure that this works fine:
General procedure:
- Unlock bootloader after waiting 1 week
- Flash TWRP
- Flash Global Stable Fastboot 10.3.3.0 (Not Recovery) by:
Backup in TWRP, keep backup on internal and on PC, advanced wipe everything, install rom listed above as well as GAPPS from OpenGAPPS and Magisk from the Magisk thread, then confirm flash
- Install Magisk Manager after setting up 10.3.3.0
Phone should now be rooted with all google apps and on MIUI 10.3.3.0 for International Phone
Is there anything that's missing from this?
Thank you for your help!
Edit: Is GApps necessary? If so, which one would be downloaded?
Also, should magisk and gapps be flashed AFTER the rom, BEFORE, or At the SAME TIME?
Why backup when you'll wipe everything ?, Besides i hope you're not going to wipe system in EVERYTHING, DON'T. just go to advanced and format data (type yes), then flash your recovery ROM and magisk.

Okay. Will not wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and system as in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-install-t3956945
Recovery ROM, or Fastboot ROM?
Thanks
Also, no need to install GApps or still need to? With MIUI.
I usually prefer fastboot ROM although it takes longer to flash but even recovery ROM will do. You will have to format data otherwise you will face bootloop according to my experience.

Sounds good. What's the difference between the two?
Do they both come with all google apps preinstalled?
Does installing either of them remove TWRP? (I've heard that when updating versions using recovery rom, TWRP needs reflashing)
I'm not sure about difference, But BE CAREFUL when flashing with MIFLASH TOOL, DO NOT check CLEAN ALL AND LOCK, only check CLEAN ALL, if you lock with a ROM of different region you will soft brick your phone.
Google apps come pre installed.
Yes with every update you'll have to reflash TWRP and root again.
I have moved to xiaomi.eu ROMs which come with TWRP preinstalled

Do you need to use MIFlash? I was planning on installing purely through TWRP. Are the recoveries in that thread only for MiFlash?
Also, what's the difference between xiaomi.eu and the global version? I don't mind reinstalling TWRP each time.

No, Miflash is for Fastboot ROMs, TWRPs are pushed with commands.
Difference between xiaomi.eu ROMs can be seen in their website.

I checked the website, seems like a good idea to go with xiaomi.eu ROMs instead. Note: I'm in the US. Is that okay with .eu roms?
Would the rom "MIUI 11 11.0.2.0" on here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647) work with TWRP-only installation, or does that require Miflash?
Clarification on the steps as well:
Download the rom, put it onto the phone's filesystem. When formatting storage, it will NOT delete the ROM, and the ROM will be able to be flashed through TWRP?
Sorry for questions that may seem obvious, this is my first time doing this since 2014 and it's plenty more complicated now!

All Xiaomi.eu ROMs are flashed in TWRP.
1. Reboot to TWRP
2. Advanced⟩Format data, Type YES.
3. Reboot to TWRP again.
4. Now connect your phone to computer and copy-paste the downloaded Xiaomi.eu ROM to phone internal storage.
5. Flash the ROM
6. You're good to go.

Makes so much more sense now. Was wondering how all the data formatting and reworking doesn't mess with the ROM!
There shouldn't be any problems with the Xiaomi.eu roms when living in the U.S, right? (LTE with Band 4, Google location as US)
Also, I did a quick search and it turns out Xiaomi.eu rom weekly updates arrive OTA? Is this the case for what I'm doing, and if so, will each OTA update remove TWRP + root?

Your LTE bands are safe. And yes the OTAs come with TWRP preinstalled so it'll reboot to TWRP and flash by itself. Even if it fails you can always flash manually.

Oh, sorry, one last question!
Using the ROM from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/rom-miui-11-xiaomi-eu-t3984691
That's flashed with TWRP. Will it, too, get the weekly OTA updates? Or do I have to install the beta build from here to do that? https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
Perhaps a better question would be, which source should I use for the rom, or will any european edition xiaomi rom work to get the weekly builds?

Weekly builds are usually beta builds, and to go from beta to stable will require clean flash. I suggest you download stable builds and wait for stable OTAs whenever they're ready

Sounds good to me, I'll go with stable, then.
Correct me if I'm wrong with these points:
Magisk will be flashed at the same time as the stable MIUI 11 ROM, and the phone will remain rooted with Magisk even after each OTA update
Xpozed can be installed through the Magisk Manager app (which is persistent after each OTA update)
OTA updates do not change anything to do with the phone's storage
Regarding magisk i have forgotten if it flashed automatically or i did manually, but it shouldn't be a problem manually.
OTA won't affect storage. They're like normal OTAs

K20 Pro 11.0.3.0 Global, whiche TWRP and Magisk use ?

Hi everyone, sorry for my bad english.
I have a Redmi K20 Pro (chinese phone from Rakuten sent to France) with 11.0.3.0 Global Rom (QFKINXM) with an UNLOCKED Bootloader.
I would like to install TWRP (for root) and magisk (to hide root).
When I've bought the phone, i had a 9t Pro Rom installed. I've tried to install TWRP and magisk and I soft bricked it...
So... I've reflash an old Global K20 Pro ROM (not 9T Pro) and update it via OTA.
Now I'm in 11.0.3.0 Global with the good phone name (K20 pro).
I would like to know wich version of TWRP and Magisk I must flash.
Maybe one from this thread?

Must I flash VBMETA ?

You shouldn't normally need to flash vbmeta, if you are going to install Magisk. You should be OK, if you boot immediately to TWRP after flashing, then flash Magisk.
Also look at Orange Fox recovery, if you are sticking with MIUI. It has extra features specific to MIUI, such as OTA survival and in-built debloat tools, amongst other things.
If you don't need the extra features, then stick with the mauronofrio's TWRP.
For Magisk, just go with the latest official build.
I tried to flash Twrp many times but every attempt failed... Orange Fox is no problem, but I like Twrp more. The phone isn't booting up after flashing Twrp... Has anybody a solution for this problem?
Gesendet von meinem Mi 9T Pro mit Tapatalk
Ok I will try Orange Fox. But could I install Magisk to hide root with Orange Fox ? Moreover, must I boot to Android before flashing Magisk or must I flash it immediatly after the Orange Fox install ?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT : all tutos I've found tells that I must install TWRP before Orange Fox... But I can't install TWRP without soft brick...

Umm, if you haven't gotten a fix yet.
You're saying you got k20p china model (RCN) with global rom (RGL rom) and it is using Indian Vendor (RIN vendor).............. dude.... why.
Anyways, can I just suggest you move to EU ROM latest stable. Its a lot less hassle, seriously.
I mean AOSP is great too. but if you want miui, EU just skips all the problems.
Also, to fix your problem.
Find out what phone you have first, then get the latest updated vendor for it.
Use mauronifroi's TWRP img file and flash it via cmd on your PC. then use orangefox.
Just flash the latest stable magisk zip file 20.3
My Guide should fix everything you have. you mix and matched 3 things lel, no wonder something is soft-bricking. Use my guide, or text me on telegram

You speak English well.
Right, so on my guide link.. scroll down to the 3rd comment, and you'll find a guide that says HOW TO KNOW WHAT DEVICE I HAVE. and check the box.
I'm just assuming whoever sold it did not change the boxes as well.
anyways, on the back of the phone, if it says REDMI it's either an Indian k20p or a Chinese k20p. If it has MI written on it. Your phone is Mi 9tp.
download the DRM info app from the play store. If your widevine is L1, you have the Indian variant confirmed.
If your widevine is L3, you have the china variant probably (or the Indian variant and screwed with the widevine, and you may get it back depending on what the manufactures did. Iff it shows L3, it's a decent chance its the china version)
another sure-fire way is checking if NFC works. The Indian variant does not have NFC hardware chip at all., whereas the china version does.
for now, move to EU, and we can slowly work on which exactly if you are hell-bent on know what you got.
The CPU-Z will show raphael/raphaelin based on your vendor. I have raphaelin, but I am using EU rom, which uses modified china vendor, so my CPU-Z app shows raphael and not raphaelin
btw, if you are so self-conscious about your English, download the chrome extension called grammarly., and Enable it. That'll help your English dramatically by underlining your grammatical mistakes. I use it all the time, and for making sure my posts are grammatically sound.
I'm on telegram as sandeeep, you can text me there if you want to.
Thanks everyone.
I have a chinese version (winedev L3 and NFC and K20 written in the back), good for me and Netflix ! And everyone works perfecly on my phone.
So... I will try to backup as many things as possible and retry to flash TWRP. If it's failed I will flash an EU Rom et retry the TWRP flash.
Sandeeep Kiran, I will telegram you if I have problems. Thanks a lot guy !

Hopefully this is the last time to back up and restore the phone.
Go here and get the latest EU fastboot ROM
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/raphael/
It's labelled Global EEA - currently version 11.0.3
Install it with this guide
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
If you see a blank page on a mobile phone, change the browser to desktop mode to view it.
IMPORTANT
In the guide at step 4, after unzipping the ROM delete the file clean_all_lock.bat - This will stop you accidentally bricking the phone.
In step 5 make sure you change the option at the bottom to clean all, before hitting the flash button (see the photo in the guide)
You need to boot into MIUI once before flashing anything else.
After initial set-up of MIUI, boot into fastboot and flash the latest TWRP from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...icial-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-t3944363/post79823568
Currently 3.3.1-32 is the latest.
After flashing TWRP, while you are still in fastboot mode, type
Code:
fastboot reboot
Now as soon as you hit enter, pick up the phone and press and hold the volume up button. Keeping holding volume up until the phone boots into TWRP.
Download the latest Magisk from here
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases
(It's a good idea to also download the uninstaller file too, just in case you need it)
With the phone now in TWRP and connected to the PC, copy the Magisk installer to the phone, then flash it with TWRP.
You should now have the latest EU ROM with TWRP and Magisk successfully installed, so reboot to MIUI and check Magisk is working.
Then reboot to recovery and check TWRP is working.
I apologies for my bad French.

Question Official MUII 12.5 Global. Any link and tutorial to flash CN versions?

Hi! I buyed a CN version of Mi 11. Is there any link with the official Global rom for Mi 11 that was rleased today ? Any tutorial?
Thanks!
As far as I know, the Mi 11 Global version won't be available before February 25th (at least here in Europe), so I doubt the global ROM is available yet. Most people recommend the xiaomi.eu ROM over the global ROM because it has some extra features and so on.
I recommend you use Xiaomi.eu's ROM, there's a thread explaining how to do it here. Also, don't forget to unlock your bootloader - you need to wait 7 days before it can be unlocked, so if you start the process today, you'll be able to flash custom ROMs in a week.

Installation ok for me. Like u i was on xiaomi.eu lastest. there is a smalll error : This error is caused because the tool verifies if the device’s bootloader has been locked or not. Since you used the ‘clean all’ or ‘save user data’ option, the bootloader is not locked and the error is shown. This is a problem with the tool itself and is nothing to be worried about since the verification takes place after the flash is fully complete.

You don't mind if I abuse you since you the first known to successfully flash the global rom?
Therefore, my bunch of questions are:
1. Did you use the fastboot version of rom (unzipped tgz)?
2. You did dirty flash form eu rom or did you clear data before flash?
3. You don't have any modem issue, all mobile bands and both wifi (2.4 and 5)?
4. Like first impression: do you still experience massive battery consumption?
5. What are major differences between eu and global?
6. Is the rom smooth and responsive or you experience any malfunctions so far?
7. Google Pay works? If you don't use it, could you be so kind and install safety net tester and report the results?
8. Could you still use phone calls recorder?
Thank you for your patient and contribution.
Yes of course
1. fastboot version
2.Form xiaomi.eu rebooting in faastboot mod and flashing fastboot version with mi flash with clean all option.

I don't want to install the xiaomi.eu because of the OTA updates and more. I want to flash the official global version of miui.
For this official global rom I still need to unlock the bootloader or can I flash over the chinese version? Sorry for the nob question. I'm new to Xiaomi phones.

Just as a warning - if you decide to flash the official ROM, DO NOT RE-LOCK YOUR BOOT LOADER.

Are you talking about this link: https://c.mi.com/thread-3581378-1-0.html
If you are, the download link provided in the above url does not work and it is the same link I mentioned earlier.

Thank you for your patient and contribution.

hello I have my mi 11 on the global rom for 1 week
I flashed my phone with the fastboot rom (adb) and everything went well (if the phone restarts in fastboot mode, force the boot in recovery mode and does a data factory reset whip)
google pay works fine for me
my phone works without problem (no slowdown, no problem with the wifi connection on the phone, all Google services work perfectly)
after the rest has already been said

So, first i have to install xiaomi.eu-rom? Is that the right order?

Question Easiest way to change from CN ROM to Global ROM without losing data?

Hi guys, I bought my Xiaomi 11 ultra via an exporter almost 6 months ago and I have been using it happily.
I updated to MIUI 13.0.9 recently based on the phone OTA updates and I have been experiencing issues with dark mode and notifications. Some apps don't show notifications despite me disablling MIUI battery saver and enabled auto start.
Been browsing this forum for awhile and reading all the guides but can't seem to find one that allows me to root and swap to Global ROM without losing my data.
I have tons of pictures and data in my phone that I don't want to lose.
Can anyone be so kind to point me the directions?
Regards,
James
Simplest and only way, LOSE YOUR DATA!!!
The other thing you can do is back your data up over cloud (google or Xiaomi) and then restore your phone once rom has changed
Can the unlock bootloader / flashing of the global ROM or eu rom work with the latest version of CN ROM?

Global rom still 12.x so if u want to flash from CN 13.x to global 12.x U must change some line in fastboot file so can downgrade rom
EU ROM seems like it's on MIUI 13.0 already. Would you recommend me unlocking bootloader and flashing MIUI 13 EU ? I'm backing up my phone now, just a little worried about my Google authenticator and my other crypto defi wallet like metamask and etc .

EU rom is china rom with some mode to make it global. And miui 13 stil has alot of bug (im using it 1-2 months) and i will change back to global rom soon
With me, eu rom sometimes got so laggy, refresh rate suddenly change to very slow value. Never met it in global rom.
Unlocked and flash another rom is a must do thing if u dont live in china. So u can try global or EU, what do u feel better. I come from eu to global, then try eu 13.x and now really want to fall back to global now

I would also recommend you to use Swift Backup for App / Messages / Call logs / WiFi PW backups. It works for most of the Apps so that you don't loose anything. Usually with Banking apps the restore doesn't really work. But there is usually also no data to keep with it. I always copy the Download and DCIM folder directly to my Laptop and after local backup also the full Swift Backup folder. Then I'm ready to wipe. I do that on a regular base (every 4-6 weeks) as the daily updates of CN rom sometimes make the phone a bit unstable.
Don't forget that your phone will be wiped once you unlock the bootloader.
when you unlock your bootloader there is no other option then format. It happens without asking it is just mandatory. Like @RoughNeck1971 says... i also use Swift to backup and copy DCIM directly to laptop
Question though, I'm now currently on MIUI 13.0.9 on CN ROM through OTA ever since I got it out from the box.
Am I able to flash to global ROM from MIUI 13 CN to Global ROM MIUI 12?
I read that OTA doesn't work anymore after changing ROMs,
So the propery way is to
1. Unlock bootloader,
2. Flash Global ROM with TWRP
3. Then full back up with TWRP whenever I want to update it to a new version of global stable ROM?
Sorry guys I haven't been in xda for a long time, since the times HTC sensation was released I meddle with some roms and radio updates.
Appreciate your guidance.
Regards,
James

First of all - when you go back to MIUI 12 on Android 11 then TWRP is the right way to go as it supports it. Then you don't have to care about changing line in fastboot for downgrade. But as long as you have TWRP installed instead of the xiaomi recovery you can't do OTA. But you can just "update" with the new full rom version.
If you should do a full backup with TWRP - can't really say as I never tried to restore a full backup. I wouldn't rely on it to be honest. Better to have everything backed up and do a new install if there are issues.

I am really new to custom roms after using iPhone for a really long time and forgot how to root the phone.
I am fresh on CN ROM, on 13.0.9.
Can someone verify or guide if the steps I listed are correct?
0. Backup all files
1. Unlock "bootloader" with Mi Flash Unlock
2. Install ADB and flash TWRP Image
3. Install Global ROM (just to clarify, i can go back from 13.0.9 CN to Global MIUI 12 right?)
4. Check with Magisk that I am indeed rooted.
5. Restore backup from Swift / PC / Xiaomi Backup
You had it right. But you need to keep in mind that it takes usually 7 days until your bootloader will get unlocked! Sou you "apply" for it and then the counter starts from 168 hours to 0. Only then it will be unlocked. Unfortunately there is no way to get around that.
Hi guys, is it possible to flash the 512GB variant with a EU/Global rom or this can be done with a 256GB variant only?
You will lose data. You must format when you change ROM branch. I have Xiaomi EU ROM on my 11 512 Ultra now but did have global. Storage size doesn't affect ROM installation.

Then unlock, flash twrp and do everything else
Ah - OK. I understood that you have no problem installing Android 11 when you have TWRP running. Only to install Android 12 via TWRP has issues.

You must format data when changing ROM branches. This due to possible partition differences between them. You may end in a boot loop until you do format.

Which ROM ???

I have a Redmi Note 9 running MIUI 12.5 .4 Global on Android 11.
Some time back Miui removed call recording facilities, which was annoying, but for some time now an update (not sure which one) has caused intermittent problems with the proximity sensor, which is even more annoying.
It has been suggested that I re-flash the ROM, but if I am going to do that I wonder if anyone can tell me which ROM I could use as an alternative that will have the MI Phone app in it so I can use call recording again.
Anyone??

What is the code name of your phone and what rom currently(full name).
Example:Lime/Gauguin/Joyeuse/merlin etc..
V12.5.3.0.RJOMIXM
In About Phone it simply says Redmi Note 9, but I think it is Merlin.
V12.5.4(RJOMIXM)

So initially you had the Miui dialer and after an update the google dialer?
You can flash an older stock rom or Indonesian stock rom**(**any, all have the call recorder).
For that you must unlock the bootloader https://en.miui.com/unlock/index.html
then use this tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
I had a Redmi 9A before, and it had the MIUI dialer which was swapped to the Google one on an update. I broke the phone so bought the Redmi Note 9 which already had the Google Dialer, so I used Magisk to install the 'Call Recorder' but an update to the ROM broke that.

Sorry to come back again - but I wonder if you could clarify for me -
There are two types of ROM available for download:
Fastboot - which does not interfere with programs and data
Recovery - which has various versions, one which preserve data and programs through to one which wipes everything. (https://c.mi.com/thread-2002748-1-0.html)
I am not sure which of these, if any, would be best suited to a phone where the new ROM is a different regional ROM already installed.
Can you advise?

I have not flashed any yet.
I have the Global ROM installed at present.
Using the 'Recovery' method seems the simplest - flashing from the SD card - but I don't know if this method will work and flash an Indonesian or Indian ROM over a 'Global' one.
Or is the only way to change to a different regional ROM to use the flash tool and the file 'flash_all_except_storage.bat ' to wipe everything and start again installing programs etc.

Only indonesian rom have call recorder.
Use miflash use flash_all.bat,and your phone will be reset (better to start again)Fastboot rom.
Do a backup with Micloud and/or Miphone assistant.
