Weird problem, no "media" related sounds. Alarm, calls, ringtone work perfectly
Hello, for some reason in the last couple of days i can hear no media related sound.
What's weird though is that i can hear normally call sounds, phone ringing and alarm.
The issue started while on the latest version of MIUI. I thought this was related with operating system so I installed Pixel Experience 10 (through complete wipe out, even internal storage). The problem persists there as well.
After looking around, it looks like people had similar issue when the phone mistakenly thought headphones were connected. As it turns out, this is not the case with me. (see 2nd post)
Edit #2:
It looks like it's indeed the "earphone mode" thats causing the problem. Using the aerphone mode off app I managed to get media sound playing again. The problem now is that as soon as i close the app, earphone phone turns back on. Any ideas for permanent fix are welcome.
Thanks

looking around, it looks like the phone might somehow got stuck in like "headphones connected" mode.
I've never connected in the past with any kind of headphones, but i got the charging port changed.
In any case i've tried connecting and disconnecting with Bluetooth headphones but didn't solve the problem.
I will see if i can get my hands on any type-c ones and try again.
Edit: i see there is an option to select the audio output device, and the phone is the only choice, so the headphones mode wasn't the problem

Kaiser will not ring

Its not ringing when a call comes in. It also does not vibrate.
The sound is up on the PPC and Ringer and if i go in to the phone settings it will play a ringtone fine.
Any ideas?
may be a reset might help? It also happened to me and after a reset, it all works good.
Don't know if it's the same thing with me, but my kaiser also at some point of day refuses to ring (still vibrates ok). It won't play mp3s with GSPlayer or MediaPlayer. Sometimes you can hear the song playing really quietly (only hear it if you press your ear to speaker).
It has happened like that for 3 days now. The sound will come back if I hit the tytn II gently (more like knock it). Althoug since today I'm not sure if it's the knock or the keyboard moving wich brings the sound back.
Any ideas?
What I've tried so far:
- Muting, unmuting
- changing volume
- soft reset
hard reset it. may be some programs you've installed might be conflicting. If the hard reset don't fix your problem, then you have a faulty unit. You can also try pocket mechanic to clean the registry and stuffs. Very helpful program.
Ok, will try hard reset.
Although I doubt it will help. Before hard reset, there was some very faint sound coming from the speaker. And speakerphone didn't work at all.
Back to resetting...
Try to change the ring tone to a different one, mine was doing the same thing it would only virate, I changed to a different ringtone and it worked fine.
I did try to change the ringtone. Every time the problem emerged. The problem was that the ringtone wasn't the only thing not playing. There was no sound for any of the events. And the speakerphone option also didn't work.
I did a hard reset last night. It didn't help. So I gave it up and went to sleep. I left my tytnII on a USB connection to my laptop. In the morning I checked if the problem was still there and found that the sound is back - the ringtones work.
I put it back on USB connection to sync. Copied an mp3 to test if it can play it (it has played it before). And there the sound went again - I can only hear it playing faintly if I hold the speaker to my ear. The ringtones won't even play when I check them in notification sounds setup - not even the default built-in ones.
Could it be a temperature issue? The tytnII sound was fine when I picked it up in the morning, it was room temperature. But it gets slightly warmer when I charge it or sync it.
I have done soft resets. I can play sounds in the phone settings options and music plays it will not vibrate when calling.
Resolved it was the 3G Dialer app causing the issue. Now i need a new one i hate the orange look....
I had an issue like this, but it was due to ringtones stored on the storage card ... and when the phone would wake up, since it takes the storage card driver a few secs to load, it wouldn't ring.... and I resolved it by moving my everyday ringtones to main memory
the thing is the rings are not on the card......
Maybe its the rom's radio
sleuth started to explain this in his upgrade however no one explains how to downgrade the radio. I believe mine is doing the same thing however I get no sound. maybe its the radio.
Draqula, did you solve your problem? Im having the same issue on my tytnII. I cant hear ANY SOUND. But if I play an mp3, for example, and I knock close to the speaker, the sound starts.
Any ideas?
My problem solved: The speaker was changed under warranty.

HELP! CM6 - Microphone and Speaker/Loudspeaker failure

Hey y'all
I'm having very odd audio issues with my Nexus One. The microphone/speaker/loudspeaker do not work at all when using the phone, playing music, recording video, etc. The audio and mic work fine with a wired/bluetooth headset connected. Now the weird part... alarms work! If I create an alarm using the clock app, the the audio chimes out loud and clear through the loudspeaker! Also, the same is true when I create a countdown using the 'StopWatch' app.
This all started happening today.
Any thoughts???
Update:
Wiped and flashed the latest Nightly, but still the same problem. But I notice that there is a strange 'headset' kind of icon (an overhead type, with attached mic, thing) in the status bar, which I've never seen before. I only mention this because I've also wiped and tried 'eViL's NXSense v.1.11' ROM, where the same icon (and problem) occurs??
Update 2:
After a bit of digging it turns out that the strange icon is to do with 'Hearing aids', and apparently it can be turned off under Call Settings > Hearing Aids. But that option isn't in my 'Call Settings'. I think this could potentially be the cause of my problem, anyone know where this check-box is located?
Example of icon: http://is.gd/eTUif
Any thoughts? Is there a diagnostic tool that can test the various audio I/O?
I think that icon refers to a headset connected to the headphone connector.
For some reason your phone thinks you have headphones attached... try to plug and then unplug earbuds or something
Tried that numerous times, to no avail. Can you see the 'Hearing aids' check-box under 'Call settings'?

Random reboots using Bluetooth

I had an issue with a New Potato Tunelink and choppy audio (I have a thread in here somewhere).
I bought a Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit and it does not suffer from the same audio problems, it sounds great... when my phone isn't rebooting.
The only time my phone reboots is in the car. I've disabled Active thinking it might have something to do with that, but no. If I turn off BT the phone doesn't reboot. There is something with my VZW MX and this Kinivo paired together that creates a situation where it unexpected and randomly reboots.
This morning it rebooted almost immediately after connecting. Sometimes I can manipulate the controls, pick a song and start playing it and it will reboot shortly thereafter. Other times it won't reboot and will start working until I go to skip to a song or something. There is no pattern other than BT and this phone hate eachother.
It's frustrating because I don't know when it will reboot. There are no options that I can see to try at this point other than look for something else or plug a stereo miniplug into the MX, which I'm not a fan of doing.
I've not done a factory reset due to the time and inconvenience of getting it all setup again. I've not tried to have VZW replace it.
Any ideas?
Well, a factory reset did not fix this problem.

I've experienced the same thing, but only twice and I connect to bluetooth multiple times per day in both the car and a standalone headset. I can't see any pattern, but it would certainly be nice to know how to prevent it.
I was having trouble with random reboots and I think it was the Updater app running in the background that may have been causing it. I saw that app running, went to Settings and checked for updates (obviously no updates yet). Ever since then, no random reboots. I use Bluetooth every day with a headset and Car audio device. BT working way better than any CM ROM I ran on prior devices.

[Q] Sound gaps while BT streaming to car audio.

Hi, I Have strange problem with my brand new Xperia Z3 Compact. I streams my music from Z3C to my Pioneer MVH-X360BT car audio. Every few minutes there is a gap in stream that lasts for maybe half a second. That's very annoying! Music is still playing during this gap but I can't hear it. I had similar problem with Xperia Z1 but I thought it was some problem in old Android and some bug in BT driver. Then I've had iPhone 5s and it worked like a charm! No gaps, no problems with BT. Now I've returned to Android and I'm starting to regret this :/
I've checked everything I could. I've turned on BT visibility, turned off Wi-Fi, checked if no notifications couse this. I've even flash clean stock firmware (originally phone came with branded firmware). Nothing. I've tested many players (Walkman, Power Amp, Player Pro, Double Twist etc). Nothing. I though that maybe problem is in my SD card (I store my music on external card), but: 1) it's very fast card 2) copying music to internal storage didn't change anything. Sound still has gaps. I don't now what to do I'm sure that my car audio is ok (iPhone works), today I've tested SGS5 with it and it worked well too. Problem is only with Xperia family (reminder: same problem on Xperia Z and Xperia Z3 Compact).
Any clues? I hate changing my phone again and I love battery life on Z3C (main reason I left iPhone).
Please help!

I have BT headphones and I am not experiencing those issues at all. Could it be that your phone goes into some kind of sleep mode and then wakes up again? Try with some app that keeps your phone constanly awake/screen on. Does the issue persist? Can you try out any other BT audio devices and report if the same problem exists?

Huh, I've turned off the 'Queue data in background' (I have polish locale and I don't know how this option is in english so I translated it literally) option in power management settings. Nothing has changed Also nothing has changed while I was driving car with Google Maps navigation (or Waze) turned on. Still gaps were present.
Unfortunately I don't have any other device that I could test my phone with Only other phones (and all phones works great).
I think I have to change Z3C to another phone, maybe SGS5 (but I don't like Samsung...)
Ehh, tough one

Hi there, I'm facing the EXACT same problem with a few minor differences in the setup:
I'm connected via cable to a philips CEM210. This so called "gap" usually happens when I skip a track(or when the next track comes on automatically).
I have recently purchased the kinivo btc455 and will let you know tomorrow if the issue persists on the BT device.
I actually think 2mal might be on to something here I use stamina mode regularly and I have rooted my device and change tracks via the volume keys.
So the issue might be the phone wakes up periodically (skip track? check notification queue?)

I have all power safe options turned off. Notification queue is empty. I have this problem only via BT. When listening with phone connected to radio by USB, everything is ok.

Try this app while you listen to music over BT : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
Still gaps?
Also I have Viper4android installed, dont think this would make a difference since it also worked before but its worth a try.
Get the apk from here and follow the instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
I assume your device is rooted as it only works on such.
Speaking of weird bluetooth bugs, my music has been playing in fast-forward occasionally (cm12). I have no idea why this happens or how to fix it, so if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it.

Stay Alive didn't help. There are still gaps once for a audio track.
My device isn't rooted so Viper is not an option :/
Thank you, though

Hmm , last idea , try turning the timeout for visibility option in the bluetooth menu (in the right corner on the bottom when bt is turned on) to no timeout.

That was the first thing I did. No effect, of course.

Jeah too bad i could not help, what you could try is go to a store and ask them whether you could try out some BT headphones, with the pretext of buying them ofc . If the issue is still present then it may be hardware related and an exchange unit could work just fine. Otherwise it points to some incompatibility issue that could maybe fixed somehow but not by me and my current expertise . Especially since i am not experiencing the same. Wish you the best and good luck !
I use a Bluetooth headset (mw600). Started with a nokia n900 and it had frequent gaps, probably due to wifi/interference. With the Z3C started with no gaps but now get few most likely when it leaves any wifi connection (hotspots).
Since you have tried all options on the phone side, it seems to be an issue with the particular car stereo. How about you reset the stereo by removing all power sources to it then pair the phone as a fresh new device and check if issue continues?
I have a similar issue. It seems like a head unit problem for me. Many problems there are with Pioneerer Head Units. Please don't buy this brand...
Have same problem with my Z3 and pioneer car sound.... No issues when i used samsung devices... Now i have a Z3 and the sound fails all the time....
I have 2 headsets bluetooth and i dont have any trouble....
The problem is between sony devices and pioneer!!!
Help!!!
This is not just between Sony and Pioneer. I have a Cardo Scala G9 BT headset for motorcycles, and never had a problem with my Nokia 808 for music streaming, nor my Nokia X2 DS (strictly used for GPS, no SIM).
Now that I bought my Z3C, I have this random gaps of silence while streaming music. Extremely annoying. Even after rebooting the phone, no resolution. Thought maybe there are some bugs with 5.1.1, so I went ahead and updated the firmware on my G9 from 1.6 to 2.1. Still same issue.
Another issue I found with the Z3C: When music streaming is playing, and I get a text message or a new email, the music volume lowers, but no notification sound comes through, before the music volume resumes. On my other phones, when I get a text message, the music volume goes down, and I hear the audio for new text, email, or whatever.
It is extremely annoying. Anybody know how to resolve first and second problem I listed?
Not a Sony issue. Had this with an lg g3 on a kenwood car stereo and the same with the z3c. Seems to be an android issue, as it didn't happen with ios. I am not 100% sure, but I think it only started with lollipop, because I had an htc one m7 before the lg and I don't remember ever having this before...
Yeah, I am inclined to agree with you.
With my Acura, the music has zero gaps. But when I am on a hands free call, I get the gaps! So it must be something buggy with how Android handles one of the BT channels. It is extremely annoying. And on the hands free calls, when the gap happens, my telephony audio goes to the phone. And when I try to switch it to BT mode, nothing, until the gap ends. Then I can switch back to BT mode. This is extremely frustrating.
Bump. I've been having this problem for months. I had it in KitKat too and it happens with any Bluetooth device. It always happens in specific parts in my route (place I go to often), even though I may have never connected to WiFi there or WiFi is off. Could it have something to do with GPS activity?
Any solution for this strange problem?
xperts help please!!!

Hello everyone!
I also have exact same problem with my Z3C and... Sony's MEX-N5100BT, there's a couple miliseconds gap while the music is playing. The best part is that while I'm talking through the radio's built-in BT Phone, the audio never has this gap... or I haven't heard that since I'm using this radio.
But you know what? This happens so rarely that I just ignored it and got used to it and I recommend you to do the same

Audio just quit working, sort of

Edited to provide additional details.
---------------------------------------
Hey guys, tonight I noticed that the audio on my (stock ROM) Nexus 6 quit working. Sort of.
Bluetooth seems to work fine. Speakers plugged into headphone jack are fine. Regular media (music, navigation, Youtube app, etc.) or regular phone call at my ear, I get no audio.
BUT IF I turn on speakerphone then I have audio. The ringer works normally, the alarm works, the countdown timer alarm works.... basically anything designed to be LOUD works.
Also, strangely, if I'm not on speakerphone then the phone mic doesn't work either, which means no dictating text messages or anything like that.
What gives? My 1 year-old did SPLASH the phone earlier while playing with it near the dog dish, but I thought these things were splashproof. (?) Also, if I killed the mic hardware then I would think it'd be dead all the time, and not work on speakerphone.
Repeated reboots have not helped. The problem persists in safe mode. Did he somehow kill a speaker-mic combo? If so, which part do I need? (I've had this thing open twice before, it's not too bad.)
Thanks!
