Always on display. Sametimes it's help but it's probably fault of ambient light sensor or screen.

It is the same If aod Off
Not good

That's a common thing with faulty oled screens, it is a hardware issue

I have the same flashing screen when I turn the screen off before the aod is displayed. It does not happen all the time. Turning off aod does not help. I doubt that it is a hardware issue as the flashing started after updating to MIUI 11 - at least for me.

I have also this problem, started a while ago when I was on MIUI 10 after I installed some kind of dark theme
This indeed looks like a AOD fault cause turning it off solves the problem, and the latest version of AOD with custom picture customization, reduced this issue for me
But it also seems like it mostly happens when the ambient light is low so the automatic brightness reduces the screen light and AOD starts to flash
I hope it won't be a hardware problem
One other thing that I want to mention is sometimes it goes really bad and the screen starts flashing for a long time, in this case phone seems to become unresponsive as not touch and not the fingerprint sensor and infrared camera doesn't work at all

It is used for past time if you're asking

So a little update on the flashing screen situation
I disabled auto brightness and set the brightness a little below middle of brightness bar and so far so good. No flashing here for a while
Also disabling the AOD completely solves the problem

Another update on the state of this flashing issue, after Android 10 update haven't seen any flashing so far, AOD display works fine, light sensor and automatic brightness work just fine.
I guess it was a software issue after all

I hope you have solved it. Do you have the anti-flick on?

Nope I don't

Anyone else who has this issue:
Try disabling hardware overlays in developer options, also check to see if the Game driver option within Developer options is set to default. Although its possible that this could be the beginnings of a hardware issue, it could also be a software related issue.
If none of the things that I mentioned work, i would try reflashing the stock fastboot rom. ( must be fastboot version)

Similar happened to me but i think this is not recoverable.
https :// youtu(dot)be / u1dnIb9SoAw
No matter what i do, it only flashes and nothing else is visible. Device purchased about 1.5 years ago.

You need to return to stock using a fastboot rom, using a recovery rom will not work.
Most likely you have corrupted files. but sure it could be an hardware issue, especially if you have dropped the phone or installed something to increase the refresh rate. If you flashed a refresh rate mod, then you need to flash the DBTO image from the fastboot stock rom.

I have TWRP installed and thought of checking it out but it simply flashes there as well. Right now i have the display on, set never sleep in Developer options and simply keeping it up until new phone arrives. Once i am on new phone, i will try factory reset on this first and go from there i think. Not sure how to get to fastboot when display is not working.
Due to such weird nature that nothing really helps i tend to think that this is HW issue.
EDIT : Turned off display by accident (because phone call happened) and now it's back to flashing disco with absolutely nothing working. Fastboot (power + lower volume key together) is of course flashing as well so inacessible.

Happened to me too. Turned off AoD, restarted, turned on and it was ok for a while. Now flashed again. Dont know what is causing this :/

I also got the same issue on my dipper. The only solution that works perfect is by flashing to LineageOS 17.1. I know it's an OLED screen faulty but Lineage really fixes it. Been using Lineage for a few months and never have this display issue again. Other custom ROMs can't fix this display issue.

Screen much brighter on one side

So. Recently got my second transformer. After a few hours use it switched off and refused to turn on at full brightness - in the dark i could just just see icons on the homescreen. After a while it seemed to tun on again. Crazy. So i updated to and used latest 4.4.2 stock for a day, the screen was working perfectly at all brightness levels, uniform, no light bleed. Then i flashed a few of the available CM based roms. This morning, a few days in, i notice that the backlight is much much stronger on the right.
At low brightness it was completely ridiculous. Its like one of the rows of leds wasnt on at all. So i reflashed a backup i had from install day and now everything is just fine - uniform brightness, working perfectly. It seems to be a driver bug. But how did it survive me going from kernel to kernel?
So now im wondering if its a hardware issue... any thoughts?
Ive now noticed this happening on a number of occasions to different rows of the backlight - sometimes at bootom, sometimes at bottom and right. Anyone else seeing something like this?
Sounds like hardware to me...

I flashed the latest cm and this seems to have stopped happening so looks like driver issues. However, the screen continues turn off sometimes, and when it does it needs two presses of the power button to turn back on. Its a crazy thing asus - i had the last infinity too, sold it after a few months because it just wasnt as good as my nexus 10. And now this... pretty amusing.
Dunno why i keep buying asus. Must be my good experience with their motherboards or something... usually they also have excellent support and firmware updates.

Auto brightness not working correctly after 6.0.1 update

Several users (including myself) have pointed out that the automatic brightness doesn't work as before the 6.0.1 update.
Here are some of the reports:
kom-pakt said:
One of the few drawbacks I noticed just today is that the auto brightness seems a lot less responsive. For example it's very sunny today and most of the time when pulling the phone out of my pocket the display was still stuck on low brightness. It might just be a conflict with xposed or something else I'm running.

So far I've tried running the phone without anything on it like Xposed or any apps beside the stock ones and it hasn't fixed the issue. What I do know is that it's definitely not a hardware issue since the light sensor works as it's supposed - you can test yours by entering the service menu by typing *#0*# from the dialer. I am currently running the German DBT firmware but I'm currently in the process of flashing the South East Europe SEE firmware which is different only in the security patch, so if the problem persists then I will know for sure it's not a DBT-only problem.
How many of you have this issue as well? Also, which version of the firmware are you running?
Me too. Also DBT FW with 6.01. Flashlight has also an issue in the dark.
Gesendet von meinem SM-G800F mit Tapatalk
I wrote to Samsung to report the brightness bug and they said
"I'm sorry about the problem you are having, but are not officially anomalies on this issue."
"This is because with the automatic adjustment of brightness, of course, the stronger the external light source, the lower the brightness of the device.
In any case, since the restore operation has had positive consequences, I invite you to use the manual brightness adjustment when you can not see the screen properly.
alternatively, if the problem is particularly heavy, you will be able to view the problem at one of our authorized service centers. "

So Samsung's solution for this is to use manual brightness? Really Samsung?
I have the same after upgrade to 6.0.1, it's unbelievable such a bug in official release
any fix for this?
I installed Auto Brightness app, but it seems Samsung display goes above 100% in sun, third party apps can't do it
Does anyone have realy bad battery Problems too? (See my thread...)

I have the same problem - I made a video of it below. It's a serious usability problem - makes it very hard to use in sunlight.
As a kind of workaround you can put your thumb over the light sensor as you wake it up, then it will wake up dim but still visible. Eventually it will adjust and brighten to match the sunlight. But this is slow and awkward and needs two hands.
The reply you got from Samsung is ridiculous. For a start, the stronger the external light source, the stronger the brightness of the device - they have it the wrong way around. Anyway, it is obviously a major usability problem and I can't believe they are dismissing it. (And manual brightness is not an answer of course.)

It works fine on my G800H with latest Polish stock ROM
I don't use to write in the forum, but I must say 'me too'. If someone knows a working Marshmallow ROM for the G800F. The thumb "workaaround" is the only one working for me..
I strongly encourage everyone facing this problem to write an e-mail to Samsung through their official website. In your e-mails make sure you note that this problem is definitely caused by a software issue and not a hardware issue - the auto brightness worked fine with KitKat and Lollipop, but not with Marshmallow. We need to bring this to their attention so they can fix it in a firmware update and the only way to do this is to send them as many reports as possible.

I'll do this. Do you know the best email address to use? Also I'll drop in at the nearby Samsung shop (hopefully on a sunny day) and see what they say.
I'm surprised that this bug isn't much more widely talked about given that it's a major usability problem, and given that the S5 mini is a popular phone (hundreds of thousands, maybe millions?, sold). So I wonder if it's possible that there is something special about our phones, and the bug doesn't happen on most people's devices. But I can't think what it would be. I've not done anything unusual with my phone - it's just a standard out-of-the box phone running the official operating system.

Use the official Samsung website (for your region) to report the issue. Browse a bit and you'll find the form.
It's strange that the number of people affected by this issue seems relatively small, keeping in mind that XDA is a forum where a typical user is usually a power user. Also it's not a region-specific issue or caused by an app or something else. For example I thought that maybe Xposed is causing a conflict so I did a complete wipe and flashed a fresh firmware, used the phone like that without any apps for a couple of days but the autobrightness issue was still there. Tried a different firmware version as well but nothing helps. Again, it's definitely not a hardware issue - test yours by typing *#0*# from the dialpad to enter the service menu and test the sensor yourself.
I solved the problem disabling the automatic brightness function and using Lux Lite as workaround instead
I have this issue too. Hungary (Telenor) G800FXXU1CQA1. The service does not find any problem. I refered severel minor issues (among autobrightness failure), but I did not managed to talk to them, and they wrote that there is not any hardware problem with the phone. They recalibrated the sensors, so that might help.
Lux Lite solved the problem, thanks!
Hello I have the brightness issue too (G800FXXU1CQD1) official french ROM, since I upgraded to 6.0.1.
I also had some strange charging issue.
I tried with different wall chargers. When I plug them, the charging led doesn't turn on. The battery charging icon in the status line on top doesn't indicate charging.
But if I leave the device for some time and reboot, the battery level increases. So it means that it charges !!
Once I tried removing battery and it recovered, but not every time...

Lux Lite is only a workaround, but not an acceptable solution. That would be an official update from Samsung which solves the problem caused by their original update.

No. I don't want to use Odin for the moment.
By the way I installed Lux, and it works fine.
I'm surprised you're happy with Lux, official Samsung can do much more brighter screen in strong sun then Lux
By the way, I removed Lux since. Because it requires too much app permission than I think it should (contacts...)
So I'm looking for an another solution
Good news!
Yesterday I jus tried to install the latest firmware available on sammobile (for G800F) - the one for nordic countries -.. and now the brightness control is working perfectly!
Seems that this 'not' problem was fixed in latests releases :good:

Samsung Note 9 - Display Discoloration & Overheating

Who else are facing the same problem ?
1)Initially, when I unlock phone by pressing power button the display was changed to dim colour(mostly yellowish) and with horizontal lines displayed when the brightness is below 50%. After tried with multiple times pressing on power button the display came back to normal.
2) Next stage, it's not solved with power button. I have to keep my phone aside for some time to get back to normal display. It's been 15 to 20 min then.
3) Now, I would get normal display only in morning. Else, I need to keep my phone idle without touching for at least 4 to 5 hours. I've also changed screen power off time from 30 Sec to 10 Minutes. So that my screen wont turn off and I can keep the normal display. If I forgot to use or kept aside more than 10 min then my screen would go off and display would gone again and irritation starts with that discoloration problem..
4) If display changes to yellowish to reduce the horizontal lines problem I need to increase the brightness to 80 or 85% but this causing my phone with another problem "heating issue"
Samsung haven't responded on this issue yet, how could we bring up the issue and get the proper resolution from Samsung.
This happened after last March update installation?
What note 9 do you have?
Probably not a hardware fault if it happened after recent software update.
A number of note9 affected although samsung seems to disagree at the moment.
Hello,
I also have a problem with the display after waking up with the POWER button. There are tinted colors distorted and some stripes like dim lines and slow refreshing. Everything started after updating to Android 10. In fact, when the display lights up incorrectly, it starts to heat up from the bottom. Putting the smartphone aside for a moment or cooling down causes the display to work correctly.
Workaround? I turned on Active Display and first knock to activate it, then the display lights up correctly and then I unlock the screen and use normally. It is known that battery consumption increases. Of course mine is Exynos.
hi guys,, i remember a similar experience sometime back.. try this. if u have turn on the proximity sensor i mean the advance feature where the phone screen doesn't turn on while in pocket , switch it off and restart the phone and see if the problem still exist.

Try wiping the cache partition in Recovery Mode. If that doesn't work then back up your device and manually reinstall the OS back onto your device.
Im having the exact problem. I flash LineageOS and it worked by max brightness then back to auto. I installed brightness widget to max brightness and back to auto everytime I turn on screen.
This issue is popular after March update. I tried everythings you mentioned above, reset, flash new firmware, even April update, wipe cached, flash cooked rom, heat screen, turn off features, disable gpu overlay, etc... Samsung Vietnam guaranteed can fix with new screen but I'm out of warranty.
I dont have any issues us unlocked snapdragon xaa model on latest android 10 version.
Can we confirmed that a screen replacement fixes the display problem or is it still a software issue

I'm having the exynos version too but with ITV (Italy) firmware ...never had this problem and now I'm on April's version after March's version.
This looks a little bit like what happened to the S5 years ago when after 1 and a half/ 2 and a half year's the screan began flickering, having green spots or lines, randomly didn't go on with low luminance settings since it completely died....a lot of people said on forum's that it was the screen and a replacement solves, but when it happened to me years ago the Samsung assistance center told me that it was another component (never told me what it was) causing the issue and once they changed it , they solved the problem.
So, after my experience with the S5, don't know what to think now for what is happening to some guys even if I think that this issue might depend with something happening after marchs update because for the too many people having it after the update, coincidences are not credible.

Yes, many people were facing this problem and how many times we have contacted the Samsung they are behaving like they just hearing the issue for the first time. Just created and posted the link in Members app and 67 members joined so far. Everyone having the display problem out of nowhere. All of them on out of warranty except one or two. Still members app floating with the display problem messages.
Display issue got noticed in S20 too but they immediately released the security patch and solved it. Don't know why they were silent on Note 9.

Question Display dims for a few secs after screen unlock

This has been an age-old issue on multiple devices and still can't find a solution.
When the screen is unlocked the display is dim to a very low brightness hardly enough to use for a few seconds, roughly about 5s, and it turns on to the normal brightness. I find this issue reported to have been occurring since 2105? or earlier on phones from OnePlus and others.
I have Nova launcher as default, altered it's settings, just in case, in vain. After tinkering with many options in the settings i couldn't find a proper solution. Then I found that after the phone is booted, the problem didn't occur for some time, under a minute. So i Disabled multiple apps from startup, yet, nothing changed. It was also noted that the display was not fully dim though, whilst the home screen was dim, the status and the notification drop down stayed lit with normal brightness. Afterall, it seems the fingerprint might the thing causing the issue that the phone doesn't show a problem when screen unlock is performed via other methods like pin. Apparently, it's all BBK phones that's having this issue? Even though this is not a big problem, the experience is pretty annoying. And, it wasn't there when i first used the phone.
So, is there a workaround for this issue other than disabling fingerprint or using other login methods? Or could it be a bug that's to be resolved in an OS update? Any help is appreciated.
Edit: vivo pushed an OTA update today, and after installing that, it seems the issue has been resolved. There's no mention of such an issue in the bugs fix list, let's still assume it was a bug.
Edit 2: Well, the problem persists (also deleted attached image of update which did not help resolve the issue).

Just try NOT to set auto brightness ON and see things can improve.

Sorry i did not mention I did try that method in the first place of all. We could tell it isn't the auto brightness causing the issue if the status bar and notifications are displaying in normal brightness.
The issue was resolved with an update.
Edit: not really. Sick.

Question OnePlus 10 Pro Charging and Screen Display Issue (always on display)

Hello XDA Community,
I'm seeking assistance with a peculiar problem I've been encountering with my OnePlus 10 Pro.
The issue manifests as a persistent black clock display whenever the phone is locked. This display seems to prevent the screen from turning off as it should when the device is not in use. This not only affects the phone's battery life but also my overall user experience.
Additionally, I've observed a concerning correlation between this black clock screen and the device's charging speed. When the black clock screen is active, my OnePlus 10 Pro doesn't seem to charge at the speed I've come to expect from this device. This is particularly problematic as I rely heavily on the phone's acclaimed quick charging feature.
Has anyone else encountered this issue or can offer any advice? I would greatly appreciate any insights or potential solutions.
This screen is probably "ambient display" but on screen option I have disabled this in Wallpapers & style and always-on display is disabled.
Thank you in advance for your help.
I have had this with the fingerprint button showing after the screen is off, I got around it by turning it on then rebooting and retesting then changing the feature to off and then rebooting then testing again...
The problem occured after a firmware update, so if you've changed region or performed an update then that may be why.
Definitely something that shouldn't be happening.
I don't have "wise charging" turned on or wireless charging, or any kind of AOD feature, cycling and rebooting between each change should help, least it did for me.
I google this case and this can be ambient display by google but I dont have any option to disable it

Again, just cycle AOD to on then reboot.. then turn it off then reboot.
Then retest.
It simply shouldn't be on at all, so did you update recently?
