Have problem with no service bold n1 - Blu Bold N1 Questions & Answers

I have a cheap lg straight talk phone I got at Wal-Mart and I get great service at work. I purchased this bold n1 and at my house all bars are lit up. But at work no service at all. I talk to this guy and said what's the best service here and he said verizon.. I'm sure my cheap straight talk lg phone works on both gsm and cmda...but it said it works on 1700 and 1900 lte... Is there anything I can do to get this to work? If not it's useless at work.

I'm using straight talk sim

Sold it for a Samsung A50 couldn't happier..... With it just being gsm it was useless on straight talk..... Paid $100 more but now I get signal anywhere.

You can add a custom APN at any time. You can even do this on a bone-stock device - no need to root or anything. Just go to Settings-> Mobile Network->Access Point Names and hit the menu button, then New APN. Consult the FAQ or whatever for Straight Talk or whatever carrier you happen to be on, and enter the details as they recommend.

Here's some info on straight talk...straight talk uses ATT towers and I think T-Moble towers too...
However you can only get up to h+ on straight talk.
Essentially straight talk is a reseller. They buy the service from att and resell it to us. As of now they have only purchased up to h+ speeds so you won't be getting LTE speeds anytime soon...

Thanks mg. I was just looking at Straight Talk and wondering how they kept the price so low. Might be worth a shot once my ATT account runs out; it'll be a year or so before that happens. I mostly use wifi anyway, rarely use data, so that would probably work for me.

Verizon and Walmarts Straight Talk??

I have a LG G2 and I am no longer under contract to Verizon, so I just pay VZW month to month for my service.
My questions here are:
Can I switched to Walmarts Straight Talk with my G2?
Would I still have the same coverage (4G) area on Straight Talk?
Thank you

AFAIK you have to buy one of their phones to use CDMA networks. Only the gsm carriers have the bring your own phone on ST.

Yes it is.

There are people who wrote a method to flash a sprint epic to straight talk Verizon towers that works on sprint Note 2s. One of the intermediate steps flashes a vzw phone. CDMA workshop and a little bit of work can make it happen.

I looked into this a while back, since it sounded so wonderful in the commercials. I don't think Straight Talk offers any 4G service, but I could be wrong. It may be available on their GSM towers. Either way, if you follow the link below for "bring your own phone," then click on CMDA, the next page states BYOP does not work on 4G phones.

I seem to remember them selling a 3G Samsung S3 when I was looking into their service. That kind of put me off of them.

You can get a LTE sim with ATT now on ST. Don't know if you can make it work in a VZW g2, but it should work fine in the ATT g2.
Okay, correction to my post. If you want vzw towers on st you have to have only vzw towers if you have a CDMA only phone. You can fflash to their sprint based service and only have sprint service (probably, not sure if they have donors to hack). Their sim networks are Att/T-Mobile. I haven't heard of anybody flashing to the st vzw towers with a vzw sim equipped phone and using one of their sims. That might be useful if you were in a place that regularly has simbased services and occasionally went to the boonies- you could just switch which service was active assuming you get better speed or home coverage on the sim service. Also useful for international (read: not north American) roaming.

I realize that this is an old thread but I just switched to Straight Talk from Verizon and thought I would share this. After the switch (I kept my number from Verizon) my phone still shows Verizon Wireless on the lock screen, still says VZWInternet for my APN settings and still shows that I am getting 4GLTE. I am actually on Straight Talk service though as I have my SIM from ST in my phone. I didnt have to use an ATT sim or anything. I registered CDMA on the Straight Talk site before I switched my phone number over. Hope this is useful to anyone thinking about switching over.
Verizon is a straighttalk's carrier so basically your phone is still working under Verizon wireless.

Just to shed a little light on this, while Straight Talk might operate on VZW towers in some regions, VZW does not authorize straight talk to use phones like the LG G2. One of the powers of CDMA is they can pre-approve select serial numbers for certain carriers, thus VZW knows every single phone ever manufactured for their network and can selectively choose which can be authorized to connect. Thats why you have to go through all the crazy phone cloning to get CDMA phones to look like authorized devices.
Anyway, ST operates on both CDMA and GSM in certain markets. When operating on GSM they utilize AT&T. The LG G2 can only connect to ST if you are using the native unlocked GSM mode. Thats right, all Verizon LG G2 phones are GSM unlocked. So if Straight Talk offers a GSM service through ATT in your area then you can use Straight Talk. If you are trying to connect to Straight Talk's CDMA service (verizon towers) it will not work. Of course you can also use your G2 on any GSM carrier, so T-mobile is also a good player here as they offer some pretty attractive plans, namely their $30/month 5GB/100minute plan. If you have a google voice number you can use Hangouts to place calls that count against data and not minutes, thus you have an Unlimited voice plan with 5GB data for $30/month.

Er, no. "Phone cloning" was necessary for using devices on older 3G-only MVNOs, but it's no longer the case now that Verizon uses SIM cards. (as do many Verizon MVNOs, like Straight Talk, Pageplus, etc)
As long as the G2 is in good standing (IMEI/ESN not blacklisted due to non-payment/stolen phone/etc), you can use it on ST. All you need to do is request a Verizon SIM from ST CS, pop it in the phone, and go. The $45 for Unlimited/Unlimited/5GB BYOP plan works fine on Verizon. Hell, as long as you have an activated SIM card, you can even use non-Verizon-approved LTE devices on a Verizon plan as long as it has the necessary LTE bands.
Why are you reviving an old, dead topic with outdated information?

ST will give you a SIM when you sign up, but be sure that it's for the Verizon network.
If you're ordering over the phone, just tell the rep that you want it for Verizon.
If you're doing it in store, make sure you're getting the ST Activation Kit for Verizon. Apparently not all Walmarts carry the ST Verizon kit, so you might have to order over the phone/on ST's website.
Once you get it, just pop it in your Verizon G2 and you're good to go.

What seems so unreal about this is that I'm paying for Verizon service for less than Verizon charges. How the hell does that work for them? Does Verizon just make most of their money roping people into contracts for new phone subsidies? Do they severely deprioritize non VZW customers to the point that ST might be miserable on their network?

There are a few of catches to ST's service, which apply to other Verizon MVNOs as well:
1) Verizon postpaid has roaming on 3rd party networks, while prepaid and MVNOs are limited to Verizon's native network only.
2) Verizon MVNOs have lower priority than Verizon-proper. On congested towers, ST and other MVNOs will have the slowest speeds.
3) Similar to the above, all Verizon MVNOs are capped at 5mbps LTE speeds. So not only do ST/MVNOs have the lowest priority, but even on uncongested towers their speeds are limited.
On the plus side, you get Verizon coverage, the largest data bucket at the $45 price point (5GB), and no additional charges/suspended data after you use your allotment (ST throttles to 64kbps after).
If priority and speeds are important, Verizon Prepaid has unlimited talk+text+2GB data (suspended after unless you pay for more) for $45. Higher priority than MVNOs and no speed restrictions.

[Issue Resolved] AT&T was refusing to allow my Nexus 5 on LTE

I just swapped my SIM out from my Nexus 4 to my Nexus 5 and was receiving only HSPA. Not a complete surprise, a short time later I got a text saying my plan needed to be enabled for LTE and to call customer service. I called customer service and the agent told me that at this time AT&T will not activate the Nexus 5 to operate on their LTE Network because it was not sold by AT&T. This is on a regular post paid contract plan.
UPDATE: I called back yesterday evening and asked to speak to a Tier 2 rep, the Tier 1 asked why, told them the situation, they put me on hold, then came back and put me through to a Tier 2 rep who asked my IMEI number and the SIM serial and was then able to provision the phone for LTE.
That's not quite a nice thing. I don't think providers should just tell You not to use a device on their network.
Mine comes in tomorrow and I'm already on an unlimited LTE SOC code for my One X+. Will post results tomorrow evening.
That's really odd. My brother got his N5 today and it gets LTE just fine. It gets a stronger signal than my Note 2 even
Just hang up and speak to another agent.

I tried calling to switch my plan from regular plan to LTE plan and I was told I would need to provide them with the IME for the phone. I may try to call again before I get the Nexus 5 just to see what they say. Worse case scenario, i'll go with T-mobile.
Why do they care what phone you use? And why do they even need to know?
Call center CSR's is a crap shoot. If your data plan in not provisioned for LTE, simply go to your local ATT store and tell them to switch your data plan for LTE along with an LTE sim. If they say you can't, simply ask to speak to someone else who can help you. Just because it wasn't sold by them doesn't mean $hit.

Ask for Tier 2 tech support. Customer service is more or less useless in a situation like this. Tier 2 will actually be happy to help with something other than people whining about the iOS7 update. Trust me on that one. Worst case, you'll have to get an IMEI off an LTE device. If you run in to that roadblock, PM me and I'll give you an IMEI off one of my spare phones.

Simply go to an AT&T company store and request a new LTE SIM card, they will give to you for free. I just swapped my sisters out no problem.

It's standard crap from regular customer service. They really aren't told about anything other than billing issues and plan changes. Something as mundane to you or me as changing APN settings in an unlocked phone is beyond them. Tech support, on the other hand, was always a great help.
Simply changing the type of SIM card is not what's needed, as 3G, HSPA+, and LTE all have different SOC codes in AT&T's system. Provisioning is what matters in this case.
This happens with every Nexus device since the IMEI's aren't in AT&T's database. For some reason, AT&T needs to have a proper LTE phone IMEI on your account for LTE to work. Just google and find an IMEI (from an eBay auction, etc), call up AT&T and tell them to put that IMEI on your account. Boom, LTE works fine.
Or just go in a store and have a rep do it for you. They will just pull an IMEI off of a display model, load it onto your account and off you go into LTE heaven.
No need to over-react. Just a provisioning issue.
Pulled my Sim out of my N4 plugged it right into the N5 and instantly got LTE, sounds like you need to try a different agent/store.
Yep, I did this with my Nexus 4, although I did have them provision it with "Data Unlimited on 4G for LTE Smartphone Enterprise", so when I get home I should be able to just swap the sim card in =).
I just popped my ATT sim in my n5 and was on LTE by default, you got a rep that doesnt know any better.
Mine works fine on LTE in the mid-Michigan area.

Yeah, call back in later and get your plan amended to the regular Data Unltd LTE, because that Enterprise SOC code (unless you need Enterprise provisioning) costs $45/month.

GO phone or H20 wireless??

Just got my ATT note 3
and i am looking at GO phone or h20 wireless...
Go phone which i was told works with exact service as ATT and also supports 4G LTE
$60 x unlimited talk text, 2gb data
H20 wireless
Unlimited talk , text , 5GB x $60
but does not support LTE
for what i know h20 wireless works off ATT as well but not sure if it gets the same reception as Go phone...
Main think im concern with cell reception i need to have reception even in the desert.. which one would work best
I obviously prefer having LTE service.. but Dont know what is ATT 3g speeds..
Just for reference. The go phone network and the att network are not the same. The go phone is only about one fifth the coverage.

i wouldnt necessarily say that.. ive had gophone for sometime now and my girlfriend has postpaid contract at&t. we both travel from miami and texas and me and her literally have almost always the same service, lte speed wise along with cell coverage. the GoPhone LTE speeds are even faster then when i was on Verizon LTE Postpaid service. id advise you going with Gophone as im sure at&t would give there customers first priority on towers over a third party company plus you also get LTE. Only difference i was told between gophone and postpaid is priority on towers but i can tell you being with gophone so far i havent seen any issues (i.e dropped calls, not receiving text, calls not going through) but take that with a grain of salt everyone's experience is different if you do choose gophone ask them to give you a postpaid sim card seems to work better lte wise when i was at the store
EDIT: okay so i found the "coverage" map on Coverage Map Link and it is definately not only 1/5th of the coverage lmao id say the only differences im seeing is certain unpopulated areas you dont get as good or any reception on gophone as you would on contract. remember to choose "GoPhone® Pick Your Plan" as the other gophone option is for by the minute.

I am using my Note 3 on Go Phone since couple of months. Never had coverage issue. I have traveled to New York, New Jersey, Minneapolis-St Paul metro and never had coverage issue. LTE works great, just like the post-paid service I had earlier with Note 2.
And just FYI, I recharge GoPhone from ebay. $60 recharge costs me $50 with no tax.

T-MOBILE NOTE 4 : at&t GO PHONE OR STRAIGHT TALK ?

I have t-mobile note 4 on AT&T go phone prepaid service right now. I just noticed ST came out with a plan that is 10gb for $55 a month. I currently have go phone 5gb @ $60 month plan.
Since im always connected to WIFI i dont go over the 5gb
wondering how the service of ST is ?
I had st for about 2 years and service was good except the 2gb datat cap but if they are doing 10gb for 55 i would say go for it...thier customer service sucks but service was good

I know that STraight talk uses AT&T for service so every band that AT&T uses for service will be provided by Straight talk ?
Go phone service has been really good for me but if i can get the same service and double the data for the same rate i would rather change.
Im just concerned with drop calls, or calls not coming in and suddenly getting a voicemail for a call i never knew came in.. (this happened to me on Sprint's service)
I never had that happen calls were always clear and seemed like i got service almost everywhere

Every one has their opinion and as always YMMV but both metro pcs and tmobile suck for dependability.
I decided to stick with at&t go phone service for the dependability in service
I have many friends that have Metro pcs or tmobile service for the same reason of having alot of data, but when were out of the city they have no reception
How good is having unlimited data if your phone has no reception. Also when we are at major sporting events sprint and metro/tmobile have also had bad reception..
Verizon and AT&T have no issues..

Depends on where you are. All the carriers fail somewhere. T-Mobile owns townships just like att or Verizon. The key is to stay home... forever. Everyone complains about their carrier no matter who it is.
Besides, sporting events? I thought the point of pointless sports was to escape daily life. Maybe the red vs blue lifestyle applies to carriers too? Carriers are just like teams in that way I guess. They need losers to feel like winners
