Meh...each to their own my friend. I like my Nova launcher, with certain icon packs, and multiple screens. What's even funnier, I don't use AOD, active edge, soli, now playing, rarely assistant, smooth display, adaptive brightness, gesture navigation, or ambient eq. Shoot....I even drink milk straight outa the carton. I'm a 19th century man living in the 21st century!
However, I do like my add blocker, TiBu, custom kernel, KCAL control, and Swift Black theme, and my 8-11 hours of SOT over 2 days because I don't use social media or do gaming. So, I don't see me missing out on too much. After all, isn't that what android is all about....choice! :good::laugh:
I disabled it before and then quickly figured out what it was needed for and enabled it again. I use it all the time. Pixel launcher has spoiled me lol.

Swiping up a little on the homescreen to reveal most recent used apps is the biggest. That doesn't work when you disable device personalization sittings. I use it all the time.
Sent from my Google Pixel 4 XL using XDA Labs
I use Pixel 4a still running on Android 10. When I first started using the phone I noticed that "Android System" had a very high battery usage on my phone. It was always positioned at 2nd or 3rd in my battery usage list with like 10-15% battery usage, affecting my battery life. Compared to my other android phones with similar usage, it was higher on Pixel.
For a long time I couldn't figure out what caused it. Played around with many system apps by turning things on/off, turns out it was due to Device Personalization Services (now called Android System Intelligence). It had a high data usage when I checked it. I disabled it and it solved my problem. Now Android System drains just 3-4% of my phone's battery. I use 2 phones and bought Pixel 4a specifically for its camera. I don't use any of the Device Personalization Services and completely fine without it. So I'm mentioning my experience incase anyone wants to turn it off.

Very useful for gamers who just want to turn brightness up, check notification and things like that.
Thanks for linking to the app, i definitely think this is something google should have built into android. I was looking for something like this a few weeks ago, too, and here it is.
However, i think it belongs in the Themes and Apps section, development is based around ROMs and Kernel modifications, though if a feature like this could be built into custom ROMs it would be priceless.
I agree. This should be a standard feature for Android, well, as for now this app does the job
Wow, really useful app I've come across in awhile. It was always a pain to switch back into the homescreen.
My only concern is that it takes up 12 MB of RAM. I think it could be more optimized? Well everything has a price.
I'm assuming this would constantly have to run in the background. Wouldn't that deplete battery life? ICS's battery life isn't amazing as is so I am not sure I want to make it worse...
FYI, there is a built-in option in MIUI to enable this feature
it uses too much ram 10mbs for this small app is a bit much.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
6.7mb here. Doesn't use any extra battery. No complaints here.
Did not notice any decrease in performance of my phone, nothing noticeable anyway. Supercharge your phone to compensate if you want.

I doubt this consumes extra battery life; if so, it's negligent. RAM used does not consume more power; only CPU cycles do.
Besides, if this app was programmed well. It would only be active if it notices that the foreground app was in fullscreen mode.
Very usfull for me,thanks to the creator
This is my app. It doesn't do polling from system to get full screen change. It is triggered when there is size change in window. So it doesn't do anything until it is called by system for adjusting its size.
This feature definitely does need to be implemented stock. It's a wonder that it hasn't already really.
Thanks!

Poor battery is due to processor heating which is hardware issue. Software update would not make much difference.

Can't say about battery, but used camera for some time and everything was normal, didn't notice any significant heating. For me looks like it's gonna be better than MM.
Happy so far!
P.S. There is advanced setting in Stamina mode, 3 levels of savings available now, and on second option no animation is disabled, but slight stutter is seen while scrolling here and there. I turned it on and battery feels like can last 2 days easy on this setting on moderate use. They consume power by unnoticeable degradation in scrolling / animation etc. SWEET!

ty
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. But in N the pics quality are not upto marks. I think thats all because of this focus thing. Now the phone focus the way it wants to).
9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.
If I missed anything than please guys you can add that on your comments.

Hmm... Looks pretty sweet. I will definitely give it a try. It is odd that the Huawei features are so... thin. I mean, why wouldn't they at least give you the ability to toggle notification icons for just a few common apps?
I tried this and the battery drain is high even with just the digital clock on.
Yeah, I said the same in the other thread. It was using 1% in around 10 - 15 minutes and I hadn't even turned on proximity detection.
I used it for half a day. But he consumes a lot of charge. I do not recommend.
Yeah I noticed my battery draining pretty fast too. However I still think this app is pretty cool and worth it, especially over the crappy native AOD... As my phone still gets through a full day usually.
Though if I think I'm gonna have a day of heavy phone use or I'm travelling or something, I'll just disable it.

It does if you configure it properly. And yeah, there were problems with notifications showing up on the M20 Pro (and I suppose onother EMUI 9 phones as well), but they have been fixed in the meantime.
Must admit I just use it during the day and when I put my phone on the wireless charging pad...just like all other aod apps, it just consumes too much battery to be taken in consideration for constant use (the dev himself doesn't advise to use it this way either). I guess devs can't do nothing about it, it's just the way it is with aod.

Built in AOD consumes very little power but a third party app version doesn't have elevated system privileges so it's going to eat battery like crazy to keep itself open and running.
It's similar to why built in SMS uses very little power but an app like Facebook Messenger is a notorious battery hog.
So, I just upgraded to Android 9 and I use a lot of widgets for various news feeds, weather, baseball scores, etc. Most of my widgets are not refreshing (even when prompted on the widgets) or even loading (unless I take them off the homescreens and replace them).
This is happening with Falcon Pro, Tweetcaster, MLB At Bat, Eye In The Sky Weather, and Talon.
Please help me.
Happens to me with Timely, in fact, the app (alarm) does not even work at all and caused me a few missed days at work. But they haven't updated it for quite a while.
The problem is that in Device Care, we cannot white list apps anymore like we did in Oreo.

All the apps that i want to be able to talk on the background have the background allowance. And i am reluctant to disable battery optimization.
But that was not my point. On Oreo, you could black list apps (always sleeping) and white list apps (do not put to sleep) on device care/maintenance. In Pie, you can only black list.
Nevertheless, i think in my case it's the Apps fault. Last update was prior Pie release. However, the widget many times is at least an hour or two behind (a clock widget from the same app).
Thanks for the feedback.
I get your point.
You are right, the white-list is no more.
I had a similar problem with my widgets.
Using my settings above fixed it.
You can disable battery Optimization without hesitation, if the app itself does not suck your battery.
I configured, HD widgets for example, usage and have the same battery usage with and without battery Optimization.
Widgets not refreshing since Samsung update
I'm having the same issue...HD Widgets, Evernote, Business Calender (all widgets I've had for years and love) are not refreshing after I "wake" my phone or reboot. If I remove the widget from the screen and re-add them, they work fine...but I'm not about to do that every time my phone sleeps for a while. This is on my Galaxy Note 8 running Android 9.0.
Is there a fix? Thx

So, for the apps I want to use widgets for, I need to turn off "Optimize Battery Usage" in the app's options?
OK, I think I've got it working now.
But, my Proximity Screen Off app keeps stopping.
One more pie related annoyance, what a pity
I have the above settings but several widgets still not working e.g. Google Fit. A cheeky app that still tracks you even with permissions denied.
Anyway, I have a Galaxy A10 Android 9.
It's become a major bugbear for me.
Can it be fixed? I can only update widgets when I manually go into the apps.
Cheers,
Anthony
Hello everybody.
I noticed there are some issues trying to use third party launchers such as NOVA or SmartLauncher.
Or, at least, that's what happens to me with the One UI 3.1.
I've been using NOVA since my first NEXUS and since then, moving to S7 up to the Note 10, even after choosing to be part of the Beta Testing Program, I've never had problems.
Now there are some laggy and crash issues. With both of the launchers aforementioned.
I don't know if this is due to the choice of using gestures instead on the buttons in the navigation bar (it doesn't look like, considering I tried to change) but it causes strange "movements" everytime I go back home: like the launcher restarts itself, if you know what I mean.
That never happened on my last device (the Note 10) with One UI 2.5: that's the reason why I'm seriously thinking it could be a problem of compatibility with the latest stock UI version.
Anybody with the same problem? Same issues? Or this "monster" behaves like it should?
Thank you
Best
IMPORTANT EDIT: I tried again and yes, it is gesture related. Deactivating the gesture navigation bar, everything went back to normal.
Yup, same issue. Flashes white after the next immediate touch action, blocking whatever that action was. Doesn't affect the stock launcher. I reported it to Samsung through their members app. Had to switch off of gesture navigation because of it. Dunno if the other gesture navigation is broken but I'm on buttons again.
I'm using good lock one hand operation + and FNG to compensate so left and right are still back. Swipe up is home and swipe up hold is recents.
Well the issue is with Google's gesture implementation. I am facing the issue with gestures too and contacted Nova launcher support and they have blamed google for it.
Its true, disabling gestures, everything works fine. I hope someone will find a solution to this.
I used Microsoft launcher and it seems fine.

Maybe it's only affecting launchers with the Google feed
I'm running a 10+ on Pie. The native launcher is fast and very stable.
I played around with Nova and a few others including Hyperion launcher. The latter boot looped my stock 10+ twice, back to back.
2 factory resets latter I was fuming. That was the first app to ever boot loop any of my Androids in 6 years. The developer had nothing to say. REALLY? F$$$ that!
Launchers have a very real potential to cause a boot loop. Take any instability seriously; there should be none.
The stock launcher uses less battery.
Because of all the Samsung built in customization plus Galaxy Store plugins and the Good Lock family of apps, the stock launcher is better than even Nova. Easier to use and more stable.
I stopped wasting my time sampling launchers. My last reload was almost a year ago; it remains fast, very stable with low battery usage. It looks and runs great... what's not to like?

Hi.
I must say that you're right: latest UI version in very fast and stable. All the possibilities you can add with GOOD LOCK are definitely a serious improvement. There is a "missing" feature, though: those damn' icons.
I really don't understand why we must be forced to use those ugly ones on the Galaxy Store and why they decided not to allow us to change at least the shape (with the UI 3.1), as this is a stock functionality.
Let's see what will happen in the future.
Best
I've been using Apex Launcher Classic for years without issue and icon packs to customize (Desaturate pack is current favorite)
Works just fine with UI 3.1
I don't use the Gesture mode

Why oh why won't they give us vertical scrolling in the apps menu

The last point is true however the first two aren't for me. No issues with widgets or Task changer.
The white icon label lettering irritates me though but it's not not all the trouble comes with 3rd party launchers.

There are hundreds of icon packs for UI 1.0 on the Galaxy store.
Not so with the 3.0 version?

Sure. Full of crappy icons and comic-sans-like fonts... Not considering that those on the Galaxy Store only change the stock icons and a few more.
The reign of inconsistency.
Believe me, I would be happy just having the possibility to choose the shape, as every other manufacturer on the planet allows.

Shape? Round, square... -far- less worse than Google or Apple designs
It's a pain sorting through them but there are good ones in there that most will like... for free.
If you're willing to take the performance and stability hit to have the "shape" well every rose has it's thorns.
2 back to back forced reloads taught me religion
Been using Nova for years, and it works just as well on my Exynos S21 Ultra as it always has.

Me too! No problems until now!
I have been using nova launcher on my s21 ultra, since i got the phone ( with no gestures, only buttons ).
And i thought i was having a nice experience.
A few days ago i messed up my phone, debloated the wrong apps and had to factory reset. Since i was going with a fresh install i decided to use OneUI + some goodlock modules.
Boy.. i was wrong about the nova experience. Now i know how fluid and responsive the phone is supposed to be.
Anyway, apart from that, this is the official info from NOVA:
Google has made it very clear that they have no plans to completely fix gesture-related issues any time in the near or even distant future.
Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android (stated March 2019).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android 10 and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google have now made it clear that they have no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include:
• Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
• Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
• Animations not being as fluid as expected
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as we have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.

Install Hexed from the Play Store. Personalize a theme and in preferences check Navigation Bar Height and set it to 0. In regular Android settings make sure it's set to use the NavBar buttons and not the gestures. Install any third party gestures app that you like. Set up your third party gestures app then restart the phone. Then you'll have fully working third party gestures and everything will work like it used to. This is the only way I have found that fully fixes the gesture issues.
