Will custom ROMs, specifically EvoXOS and LOS run on the premium edition? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

People on this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/k20-pro-premium-edition-compatibilty-t3969681)
reported successfully installing Global 9T/K20 Pro ROMs on Chinese 9T/K20 Pro Premium,
but what about custom ROMs for the 9T/K20 Pro on the premium version?
Anyone tried running EvoXOS 3.4 or LineageOS 17 on the premium version?
How likely are they to run stable?
GB is currently selling the premium version cheaper than anywhere I can find the normal edition (420 Euros inc. shipping), and I need the biggest storage I can get.
Thanks!

I'm currently typing from a K20 Pro Premium Edition running Evo Works totally fine!

Thanks @nielsscholte!
Did you follow the guide in the Evo thread? Or did you have to do anything differently?
Anyone with LOS17 experience?

LOS17 cause boot loop.
I've been using evo for two weeks, just follow the guide using the latest vendor and firmware

Thanks for the info!
May I ask which LOS17 build have you tried, and whether this could have potentially be related to the Opengapps version?
Thanks again!

So for future reference I found this thread (which for some reason doesn't show up in the normal search (maybe because of how he spelled "premier"?)):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/guide-redmi-k20-pro-premier-edition-rom-t4010735
Tldr:
The following Android10 ROMs successfully boot and basic functions work (no detailed info about stability/functionality):
HavocOS
RevengeOS
ION
Xtended
ColtOS
Syberia
The following Android10 ROMs boot, and based on reports from several users are stable and functional:
EvolutionxOS
LineageOS17

Mi A1 Port

This question is mainly for the devs or people who are well versed in the world of Android OS.
Is it possible to port Android One to our phone, the Mi 5?
Or would you get the same experience as when flashing Lineage OS?
Thanks
Why? It's just aosp with camera app from miui which is already ported.

If you read the last part of my post, I wanted to know if the experience would be just the same as flashing Lineage OS. My phone hasn't been recovery- unlocked yet and wanted to know more about other OS before diving in.
Sent from my MI 5 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

No, it wouldn't, LOS is a based on a different branch, so it isn't pure AOSP at it's core.
You would get that experience you want (similar to stock Mi A1's) with JDCTeam AOSP, but I do recommend AEX
You can install MIUI cam in all of them.

Custom Kernel support?

I have a general question about custom kernels.... Is a custom kernel specific to a device?
So can I currently install e.g. FrancoKernel or do I have to wait until it is supported...

A kernel is always highly device specific. It includes the low level interface to the hardware and as such needs the correct drivers for the individual hardware..
HIGHLY DEVICE SPECIFIC. I ran Franco for years on my Nexus devices but he'll never support a device he doesn't have and he'll never own one of these phones. Amazing Dev though. You can use his app still with these phones if you want to check it out

Why do you say he will never own one of these phones? He develops for pocophone, Redmi Note 3 and 4.

My mistake, its been a long time since I've checked in with Franco stuff :good:
Not only are custom kernels device specific but if you are unfortunate enough to own a device from XDA darlings One Plus there are separate kernels for Oxygen and non Oxygen based ROMs because there is so much code in Oxygen that veers from stock Android--in spite of the fact that reviewers always claim Oxygen is as close to stock Android as you can get. In reality Oxygen is as far as you can get from stock Android without buying an iPhone.
In spite of all the grumbling about MIUI and EMUI neither actually requires a kernel that won't boot up custom Android ROMs on the same phone.
I think that Mi9 will never get nice custom kernel. Mi9 SE has some, any SD855 has but not Mi9.. Dunno why. Kernel code was leaked before launching Mi9 sale.

Is it impossible to make kernel for Mi9 for now or what?

Is there no Android 10-based ROM for beckham? Not even treble?

I see a lot of gadgets (like the G7 plus bike that has the same hardware) with several Android 10-based Roms and it looks like our device has been forgotten. There is not even one in beta to installation?
There are no 10 ROMs (non GSI) available. In the telegram group there's work being done, but nothing has released. Be patient. Beckham doesn't have much support.
I came across a patched version of 3.3.1 twrp by "Jleeblanch" (and installed successfully) and also noticed an unofficial lineageOS 17 rom on the Android file host page for the z3 play. I have yet to try it though. Here is an install guide from cyanogenmods for it. https://www.cyanogenmods.org/moto-z3-play-lineageos-17/
so far?

Did you try the newest Lineage 17.1 that jleeblanch posted a few months ago? It works better than the one posted above. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83119095&postcount=54

I haven't have bugs, I installed it since yesterday and everything works well.

Galaxy M31 GSI

I am using Samsung m31, Exynos 9611, this phone is Project Treble supported. Does anyone tried GSI?
As it is running on exynos any chance?
Yes, it runs. I am currently using Corvus OS on M31s.
Install TWRP as mentioned for your device and then follow this guide
How to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) on Project Treble supported devices
So your device supports Project Treble, what does that mean for you? It means you can flash a Generic System Image such as LineageOS or Resurrection Remix! Enjoy AOSP-based custom ROMs! Here's a guide on how to install these ROMs.

Can you explain how you installed corvus os on m31s?
Thanks in advance
Installed TWRP as mentioned in the forum.
Followed the steps for TWRP way of installing GSI in the link of my precious posts in this thread. Normally, boot into the GSI. That's it.
PS - Only Corvus OS allows SafetynetBypass. I have tried it on phhussons GSI and haven't been able to pass safetynet. Even dabbled with magisk hide prop config. Wasn't able to achieve anything.

Also, no GSI provides stable experience for long term as the stock with root. I am now running stock on my M31s as I need a working phone for use.

Ok, do we have any bugs with corvus os?
Yeah, you might encounter some unstability. But overall experience is really good. The phone is responsive most of the time. You could try if you want to see what it is. I haven't gone back to Corvus, ever since Android 12 update came, so maybe the new firmware might have added some fixes.

Yeah, I'm fascinated by the responsiveness of the corvus os. And this new android stock update is eating up more RAM. And I feel one UI 4.1 is not good as 3.1.
I'm thinking of weather to switch to gsi or not.
For long usability, what do you think will be the better option?
Switch to GSI or reset the existing stock rom user data?
Have you root

Have you rooted your phone? If you have, give the GSI a try. If not, try following ONE UI Optimization guide on xda itself. Then, decide, whether you want it or not. I use slightly debloated ONE UI 4 rooted and with certain floating feature tweaks and build.prop tweaks as well. It has given me good mileage, but not as much as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, when I installed Superior OS A12 on it. But it will be definitely better than factory.

If you're able to install TWRP, you should be able to run any GSI you want.
I have written a guide here but it is your responsibility to know what you are doing.
Read also that thread, there are at least two guides for A600X:

I used twrp 3.6.0 not (3.6.2)not stable and after format data then install fox via twrp and repeated the format data, reboot recovery
And after that I flashed rmm and multi Samsung disabler( tried to boot to Samsung stock but failed)so, I installed gsi by this guide Post in thread 'Question about lack of A6 ROMs' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/question-about-lack-of-a6-roms.4399123/post-86381773

It's hard to say, try maybe flashing different kernel at first, and if it won't help ten play with different GSI's from the list:

You can try. but don't use old custom recovery, because Android 12+ can cause recovery bootloop. Try with this OrangeFox. Such GSI gives no guarantee of proper work on that A600X vendor.

As usual - in custom recovery (flash as boot image).
