Whatsapp notification - Android Auto General

Do you guys receive Whatsapp messages notifications on AA? I don't. Or it's very rare...

I do, but it is not possible to read the messages, you can only play them if they are in english. There are probably other languages supported, but mine isn't. I tried also sending voice messages hoping that AA will play them, but with no success. Check your AA settings and see if the messages notifications are enabled.

Yes, everything is fine out of AA. Also sometime it works with AA, but sometime only...I don't know what to do, I think it's a bug, or a usual stupid Google problem...

Hangouts 2.0 not working with Assist?

Before I updated to HO 2.0, whenever in drive mode, my phone would read my whatever text messages I got while driving. Now since I've updated, its not doing it anymore. Anybody running into this problem?

Yes
I would imagine that Hangouts SMS will cause lots of problems in the future for many more apps.

[Possible Fix] SMS sending issues

Hi guys,
I have been experiencing failed SMS sending using Google hangouts after multiple SMS sends. However, I was still able to receive SMS and use my data. I called Google but all they said to do was restart the phone, remove Sim card from phone or factory reset.
I tried restarting my phone and removing the Sim card but no luck.
What I did to fix this issue was go to settings, under wireless and networks, select more, then mobile networks, then network operators, then select automatically.
This seems to have worked.
I just changed the default SMS app. Go SMS, works perfectly fine. I think the integration with hangouts is stupid.

I'm using Sliding Messaging Pro. Works fine, as near as I can tell. To be honest, I haven't really put it through the wringer, but it definitely sends and receives, notifies, etc.

Good to know, didnt want to spend the moola on it and not have it work properly.
My reply may be meaningless, but I remember when I had my Gnex, certain messages like MMS would not work. It wasn't until I changed my phone to a Galaxy S2* on my account that I was able to get messaging working. I read somewhere, my phone needed certain information (APN stuff) for MMS. Will it work for this? Probably not and this post is probably stupid.
*T-mobile didn't have the Gnex in the list so I chose the closest model to mine
This sucks I'm still having the issue. Anyone else having the same problem? I am on Rogers.

Whats terrible about it? Has worked perfect for me and many of my friends since day 1 that we all got out N5's. Sure its not as polished as it probably will be but that doesn't make it "terrible"??
Anyone else on rogers or fido having this issue where after sending or receiving multiple SMS, the phone then goes on emergency call mode?

iMessage works between phone numbers and Apple account (email). You don't need any registrations and it will automaticly detect if recipient can receive iMessage (based on phone number) - if not, it will send SMS.
If you want to use hangouts, you must register to Google+ and you must know recipient's gmail address, because it can't detect based on phone number etc. From my contacts, only 5 - 10% uses Hangouts. For reference, 90% my contacts uses Viber and about 70% uses Whatapp. Both Viber and Whatsapp are miles ahead of Hangouts IMO.
And another thing: I made mistake and hid my GF from "People you hangout with" list and now Im unable to unhide her. Now I can't see if she is online and if I can send her message via Hangouts. For that reason, I send her only SMS.
Just look how many Apple users uses iMessage and how many Android users uses Hangouts.

That may be why they combined them. To make more than 5 percent of your contacts use it. I'm only guessing.
As for the original poster, hangouts had been working fine for me. Then again I'm on tmobile and not Rogers.

Reply to text messages

Ok folks,
I have my new Samsung Gear Live and its paired to my HTC One M7
Although I'm sure that I should be able to reply to SMS messages, the option is not available.
I can say "OK Google" "text fred bloggs" from the home screen and that works.
Do you think the limitation is something to do with HTC's SMS client?
Rik
I have the Live w/HTC One M8.
I'm inclined to believe that the reason my replies work is because I have (just started) SMS texting via Hangouts. I only switched from my normal texting client because I knew that the Wear watches would work out of the box w/Hangouts.
That said, Hangouts is a pretty lousy texting app, but I like that it's baked into Wear.

Ok so I don't have my Gear live yet (is on the truck out for delivery), however I asked a similar question and for what I understand you won;t be able to replay to the SMS until the App is updated with the new API to support that. I believe the only one that currently support that is Google own's "Hangouts".
On Google's promotional video for Android Wear, where the guy is on the bus, he gets a text message and says, "reply - be there in 2" and the message is sent.
That does not seem to work but you can make a swipe until you get a "reply" screen that enables you to speak a reply.
Thanks for the info chaps.
I don't even have the swipe across to reply option - all I get is the open on phone option
The reply by voice is one of the key things I was hoping for.
Naughty Google promo's grrrrrr.
Oh well - I suppose we are the beta testers
Same issue here with Gear Live and HTC One M7. I can "Open on phone" when I receive an SMS, but no reply options. Assuming this is a limitation of the HTC Messaging client not being "Wear-aware".... although FWIW I can reply to SMS natively on my M7 via Google Glass, which is essentially using the same set of APIs as far as I know.
So I switched (grudgingly) to Hangouts as my SMS client and all works fine. (Interestingly, the HTC SMS client as well as Google Voice continue to stay synched with Hangouts in the background, so I can still use the GV app or Web interface from other devices.)

no i think it needs to support android wear specifically. hangouts and evolve both do as of right now, i'd imagine most of the big apps will follow suit sooner rather than later since they stated that it was minimal amount of code that needed to be added in
A little disapointed to read this (mine will be here thursday) but dont forget guys. Updates, updates, updates!! Im sure it will work soon.

if the sms app you use don't support wear, i'd get in contact with the devs, it's almost a trivial amount of coding that needs to be done to support wear!

i wonder if will be updated with wear support since google uses hangouts now and i don't see them adding wear support to aosp apps that they have essentially abandoned.
maybe see if the 8sms devs can add support since it's very similar to aosp messaging?

What app? Apps need to be updated to trigger voice input from Wear notifications, so it might be opening the "reply" screen on your phone. If not, I have no idea.

The stock text message app on the Samsung Galalxy S5
I'm using Hangouts on an N5, but anytime that I try to send a message, it defaults to SMS (through Hangouts) instead of a chat message, which is what I want. Even if I'm replying to a chat that someone just sent me, it tries to send it as an SMS. Quite annoying.

that won't work until samsung updates their apps to include wear support.
as of right now the only apps i know of are evolve sms and hangouts
when i initially received my watch, I added most of the apps to my G2. I'm using contacts+ for SMS which has wear compatibility. works fine for verbal replies from the watch.

No Hangouts notifications

I've had this phone for a few days and I've noticed that if not getting any notifications for Hangouts. I have to constantly check the app to see if I missed messages. It's the only app that's doing this to me. No problems with any other app. Anyone having this issue?
YES!!
It's pretty annoying because I am missing a bunch of google voice texts because of this.

I've noticed this as well -- but it seems to happen when I leave Hangouts as the active app on the screen when I turn it off (or it times out). If I go back to my home screen and out of Hangouts, then I get the message notifications.

Odd that a core Google app would have this problem when no 3rd-party app has done it. But Hangouts is due for an update anyways....

I saw this for the first time today when I picked up my nexus 7 and saw I had a google voice text from several hours earlier. Opened hangouts on my phone and saw the text had been received, but I couldn't remember seeing a notification. It then happened again a couple hours later. I've had the phone since Thursday and been receiving hangouts notifications until this morning.
I've been having the same problem. Has anyone seen a fix

I thought it was an issue with the ROM I'm using and/or the kernel. But as it turns out my girlfriend, using a Stock, Unrooted T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Avant, isn't receiving any hangouts notifications either. It seems it could be a bug across all hangouts apps. She has android version 4.4.2. And hangouts version 2.5.81636427, same as me.
Same problem here, 100% factory. Noticed lots of texts a day after they came in with no notification.
so everybody thats using greenify, and doesnt have hangouts greenified, there is a greenify setting that many enable) but will prevent you from getting a hangouts notification.. the setting is to have greenify notify you if you get notifications. turn if off and dont turn it on, as it will prevent you from getting hangouts notifications.
I'm not using anything like greenify. Running a custom kernel but this problem seems to happen regardless of kernel changing.
MMS Bug Again
I'm starting to think it's related to the MMS bug creeping back in again from the Developer Preview.
If you go into Hangouts and try to edit your Access Point Names, you won't be able to because the menu drop down isn't there
I'm having the same issue. I'll hear the hangouts messahes come in on my Nexus 5, but nothing shows up on my Nexus 6 and I have to manually scroll the conversation to eventually get it to update (when I finally updates)
It's within the settings of SMS from the Hangouts app.

Did you read the rest of my post @dawad
Yes, I did, which I responded that it's in the SMS settings from within Hangouts. APN doesn't appear if you select your hangout account, but is in the settings menu of Hangouts>SMS.
I'm seeing the same issue on my stock Note4, I'll not hear any verbal notification and don't see any visual notification, only way to know a text is received is to open hangouts and then I see several new texts.
Has anyone found a solution yet?
Same issue, I'm going to try what Simms suggested.

Set an auto reply message in Google Messages

Loving the pure Android feel of the 4XL after using HTC for many years and want to use Google Messages and RCS. Unfortunately, I need to have a specific auto reply message for a certain number that texts me and I can't get Messages to do that.
I've tried IFTTT and SMS Auto Reply apps from the play store, but they are not very reliable. I've been using Pulse for a few years and it had the ability built right in.
What I need is a way to automatically respond to a text from a specific number with a pre-programmed reply within a minute. Any ideas how to make this work with Google Messages?
You should try Tasker. I am pretty sure you can set up an automated reply to a specific number using that.
