So I am using Edge and Chrome now on this phone, but I can't seem to get this to work. I want it to open Youtube whenever I encounter a youtubelink while browsing. I know it is burried away in some setting: App-manager, click Youtube, then there is an Open By Default section. In mine it says: "Open the supported link in an app" - Allow. Supported Links: youtu.be, m.youtube.com, youtube.com, www.youtube.com.
Seems fine, but I can't change anything else but the "Open the supported link in an app" setting. So I can't change the links it should actually be triggered by, there's an "Other defaults" section below which is greyed out, and the bottom "Clear defaults" is also unclickable. Autostart in Single-Permissions is also switched on btw. I keep on staying in the browser...
Any ideas?

Hello!
I just purchased a Kindle Fire HD, and tried to install apps like MXPlayer and TubeMate.
That was not hard: Go to the developer page, download the app, and install. I can boot the app right after I install it, but after that, there's no shortcut to these apps in the carrousel or in the app list.
I can go to the app manager and see that they are installed, and if I use ES Explorer and, for example, click on a video, it gives me the option to use either the default video player, or MX Player.
I can't however, launch the apps directly.
Do you know anything about this?
Thanks in advance.

If your Kindle is rooted, you can use ES File Explorer (or something similar) to install a custom launcher (like ADW.Launcher) to your system partition. This custom launcher will list extra apps which the Carousel ignores.
Below are some hopefully helpful instructions: (sorry if they're long!)
Download ADW.Launcher from the attachments below. Instead of installing it, save it somewhere you will remember.
Open up ES File Explorer. Open the menu on the left (swipe from the left if it isn't there already).
If there is nothing below the "Tools" option, tap on it.
Then, scroll down to "Root Explorer" and tap "OFF" next to it to turn it on (yes, confusing).
Tap "Allow" if a message comes up, then tap on "Root Explorer" (this time, not on the "ON" button).
Now tap "Mount R/W" in the box that appears.
Tap on the dot under "RW" which lines up with "/system" then tap "OK".
Now, find where you saved the APK. If you downloaded it on your Kindle, it should be in "Download".
Find the file "org.adw.launcher.apk" and tap and hold on it for a second.
Tap "Copy" at the bottom.
Now, find the "/" directory by tapping on the top and choosing "Device".
Find the "system" directory and open it, then open the "app" directory inside that.
Tap "Paste" at the bottom and restart your Kindle.
When you unlock your Kindle, it should show a box. Tap "ADW.Launcher". Now, there should be an app drawer in which you should be able to find your other apps. (NOTE: don't install apps this way unless you absolutely need to.)
Extra:
If you like the new launcher, tick the checkbox which appears on the box when you tap on Home before selecting ADW.Launcher. If you don't like the new launcher, tick the checkbox and select "Launcher" instead.
If you read those instructions and felt I was explaining too much, sorry
Hi,
I decided to clean up My Apps on the Play Store by going into the Play Store App, selecting My Apps and then hitting the "X" to drop those I no longer require.
That all worked fine but on my Galaxt Tab 8.9 there is one application called "eBook Application" from "Samsung Electronics Inc" which has me puzzled.
I have no recollection of ever installing this app and now it seems there is no way to get rid of it.
It appears only on the Play Store list, I can not find it anywhere on the device.
The attached screen shots should explain the problem.
When I select from the list I get the second screen saying that my device is not compatible with this version.
It's not a train smash, but it is annoying.
ANy advice or info will be gratefully welcomed.

Hmmm have you tried checking your Applications list?
Settings > Applications > All > look for "eBook Application" or possibly "Samsung eBooks" etc. > tap it and then select Disable (that is, if it'll let you uninstall it, Samsung can be crappy like that )
Hello,
I think this app is part of the Samsung apps installed by default on your tab.
Samsung has a "Samsung app Store", and a manager app on the tab for this store.
The eBook app you're talking about is certainly part of that samsung store. I don't know if you can remove it, maybe you can only uninstall updates that have been automatically installed.
Try by using the Samsung app Store, if there is one on you tab.
Hope that helps
If you're on stock rom, you probably can't install it, as it is part of the factory preloaded apps. Still, you can disable them in Settings -> Apps or uninstall updates. Hope this helps.
Hello,
My idea is to open firefox klar when I press a link in reddit mobile application but open chrome if I press a link in every other app. Problem is that there still are the custom taps so even if set (for testing purposes) the default browser to firefox klar reddit opens me a chrome custom tap... I'd also like to keep the custom taps for every other app. So to conclude I want to achieve the following:
pressing links in Reddit -> firefox klar is used to open them
open links in any other app -> chrome or the chrome custom taps are used
Thanks in advance for any help

I think this isn't so straight forward since Google doesn't want apps manipulating defaults.
My suggested approach would be to disable all apps, except Firefox in the case described, which are registered as handling urls. These are the apps that would show up in the pick list when no app is set as default browser. This could be done on a rooted, SELinux Permissive device using Tasker's run shell using the ADB command "pm" (package manager).
To "hide" chrome for example:
pm hide com.chrome.beta
So when Reddit is launched, hide everything so the only available option to launch the URL is Firefox.
Now the exit task needs to restore what ever you hid, so to re-enable chrome:
pm unhide com.chrome.beta

Need help. How can I force my Note9 to open certain files in the default app, and also, certain links in their respective apps?
Few examples. I try to open an image, phone asks me in which app I want to see this image, I choose an app, set it to open always with that app; nothing happenes, it asks me again, every time, for the image of same format.
I'm in YouTube app, there's another YT link in the description, I press on the link, I'm in already in YT app but system decides that I should watch this video in browser instead. Same goes for PlayStore links, instead of PlayStore app, link will open in webview; so ****ing frustrating. Same things for Medium, Reddit, and many other links, I think only Quora and Twitter links open in their respective apps.
I checked in Settings -> APPS -> Default APPs, nothing really to change here, all I can see here is that certain apps are set as default for something, and when I choose an app, all I can do is clear defaults.
I've also checked in per app settings, "Go to supported URLs" and "Supported web addresses", everything is set as it should be.
Go to application settings and find your app then looks for set as default... good luck
I have an unlocked stock (not rooted but using Apex as default launcher) on Pie with Verizon as my provider.
Until the evening of January 25, 2022 everything worked fine. I noticed that any of my commonly used web shortcuts did not go to the page I was requesting. I got to playing with and noted that it was the same across all browsers.
<Update> I went through all of these steps with both the default and Apex launchers with the same results.
I spent hours researching and testing since then. Every way I have thought of to search for the answer brings up a plethora of answers to these three question:
1. How do I create a home screen shortcut to a web page?
2. Why do I not have the option to "Add to Home Screen" on my browser?
3. All of my home screen shortcuts disappeared.
I have sifted through literally hundreds of pages and the few that were loosely related had no answers. I have no issues going to the sites once I am in the browser but each browser acts just as if I had chosen the basic shortcut installed with it. If I clear all tabs it goes to the homepage when I pick one of my shortcuts.
These are the steps I have taken so far to no avail:
1. I tried it on existing shortcuts using Bromite (my default), Firefox, Samsung Internet, and Chrome.
2, I power cycled my device. I created new shortcuts with all 4 browsers giving the same results. I power cycled a second time and still no joy. (After each of the following I repeat this step so I will not type that at the end of each one.)
3, I disabled Chrome and Samsung internet and uninstalled the other 2. I then re-enabled the former and updated all 4 from the play store.
4. I disabled Chrome so WebView could handle the links and tested the remaining 3.
5. I have tried several launcher apps that support web pages and they have the same results.
6. I uninstalled everything that had updated since the problem and tried again.
7. I checked the permissions on all 4 browsers and opened them up to allow whatever they wanted.
8. I (foolishly) checked for system updates.
9. I reset all permissions and went through all off the steps again (except 8).
Apps that intrinsically talk to their own home page work fine.
The only thing I have not tried that I know of is wiping the phone and starting from scratch which I really do not want to do. If I do that I will likely install a custom ROM. Not sure which one would be best.
Since this is consistently affecting a behavior across all apps I believe it is OS level especially since some the apps and browsers have not updated recently.
Thanks in advance!

What am I missing???? Any suggestions for something the change or install would be greatly appreciated.
AFAIK Shortcuts are only visible in the Launcher in which you created them + that launcher needs to be set as the Default Launcher. Otherwise the shortcuts will be grayed out.
I use Microsoft Edge (yes, on Android lol) and it has "Add to phone" which puts a shortcut onto my Homescreen. Chrome definitely has such a feature too. The other ones you mentioned I'm sure too!
Also are your browsers up-to-date? Checked for updates in Play Store?
Edit: Oh I get you now. Yes, browser can redirect to the installed app. In Microsoft Edge this behavior can be disabled, so that you stay in the page...

Thanks for the reply.
Everything on my mobile is up to date.
I went through all of the steps separately for each browser on each launcher.
They all create the shortcuts without issue. The shortcuts launch the browsers. The issue is that they do not open the page that the shortcut was saved for. The action is identical to using each browser's primary icon.
