So I'll try to keep this as short as possible but it is a bit complicated.
Basically I purchased a Chinese Android Radio for my 2014 Cayenne. I was very hesitant because I know that AliExpress type items can be very hit or miss (mostly miss) in terms of quality. Black Friday came around and I had the option to save $70 on the Radio so I just went ahead and ordered it. I have since received and installed the radio and am actually very happy with it overall.
Now like most Full Android Head Units this radio does not have built in Android Auto but has the option to use it via external USB dongle and the "Autokit" App.
My question stems from the fact that the radio has a dedicated navigation button that opens a default navigation app and also activates the split screen function so you can run the default navigation app on the top half of the screen and a media app on the bottom. The problem is that what I want to do is run the carplay interface on the top half of the screen (through the Autokit App) but it does not show up as an option for Default Navigation.
Is there a way that I could make the Radio see the Autokit app as navigation app so I have the quick launch feature and split screen option for Android Auto?
This is the radio I purchased:

And this video shows the functionality (Dedicated nav button and split screen function at 1:55 to 2:15)

I have both an iphone and a G1. Now people slate the iphone for not being open source, but in terms of productivity it seems the iphone still wins out for me, and it is almost entirely down to two apps which I feel the G1 could REALLY do with: sbsettings and irealquicksms. I am trying to use my g1 everyday as I'm considering selling my iphone and hope someone can point me in the direction of something similar, or the same. Best to look on YouTube for a full understanding of these apps, but in shorts....
Irealsms allows you to send an sms from within ANY application, simply by pressing the volume button followed by a tap on the volume icon that appears, or by doubletapping the homekey. This saves swapping between applications if a text needs to be sent, and also facillitates replying. This is invaluable if you are watching a movie clip and really speeds up the texting process...it is the one application I truly miss from the iphone more than any other.
SBsettings allows you to change almost ANY setting from within ANY application simply by swiping a finger across the status bar on iphone. This means, for example, that if one is watching a film, or browsing the web, one can change the brightness, turn on/off wifi, bluetooth, 3g, gps or any number of other functions by simply swiping the top of the screen, upon which a toggle board slides down the screen. A press of the menu key slides it back up again. I am amazed that this app hasn't been developed for android as it is much more efficient than silly toggle switch widgets which clutter the home screen and are far less practical if one is already inside an application
well Toggle Settings by cooolmagic places the application icon in the status bar for quick access, I find that a good replacement for SBsettings
Toggle Settings is definitely an awesome app and sounds like it would be a good replacement for that Iphone app.
I use ChompSMS and they are constantly improving their app. I'll get onto their website and request they add on a shortcut ability. Say double press on the camera button?
Or, another option is "Bar Control" to add a shortcut for ANYTHING to your notification bar.
Keyboard shortcuts are great, too.
I would suggest looking into sms popup. It makes the text msg pop up and you can just hit the reply button after you respond just hold down the home button and go back to the program you were using last.
Why not use the quick launch keyboard shortcuts for messaging (Search button + S) and Settings (no default)?
You can set shortcuts for up to 36 different apps and the shortcuts will work from any application. Just go to Settings > Application Settings > Quick Launch.
You could also just hold [HOME] and select Messaging/ChompSMS to send texts without having to drop back to the home screen (If it was one of your last 6 apps used anyways...)
Fandango would also be awesome.

Bar control allows you to put any app in the notification bar for easy access within most apps. So you could put your messaging app and a setting app (or any other app you may want) in the bar for easy access. The only exception would be apps that take up the full screen and hide the notification bar. Not many of those though.
Hi, I am just sharing some things I would like to see in the future.
An option to completely disable vibration. Although I switched it off from the settings, I still had to go to WhatsApp to switch it off there too.
When I set an alarm through Google Now, it sets vibration on by default. I need to always go in to Alarm and remove the tick.
I like the keyboard, would be nice to be able remove a word from the dictionary from the predicted text on the keyboard by holding the word for an option to remove(similar to Swift Keyboard).
Multitasking, If I long hold the multitask button it should clear all the background apps rather then swiping them one by one. It would be very useful to have a pin icon next to an app to pin it down so you can keep an app running like YouTube in case if you are watching a long clip.
Camera is fantastic, I miss the pause feature while recording. Now I do use the Movie Studio, but it takes time to convert(Samsung has the pause feature I am talking about).
3G internet, there is an option to disable background data which is fantastic to keep free software from advertising on your phone especially if you aren't on an unlimited data plan. What is missing is that although I activate "restrict background data" there should of been an option to put some applications as exception like WhatsApp.
Many might not know, but if you long hold WiFi icon from the quick settings it turns on the WiFi, same for Bluetooth. I would like to see this reverse. One click toggles on and off and long press takes you directly into the menu..
I will add more things in the future.
I am not complaining, just features I wouldn't mind seeing. I am really happy with this phone.
Well i'd like to see BT working while WiFi is enabled too...!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
My alarm doesn't go into vibrate mode on its own when I set it with Google Now.
And I also agree that there should be a button to close all the programs out, but I think there are third party apps that serves the purpose.
Wifi not stall when in sleep mode, so notifications work.
Mobile network 3g to work properly on my sim, old but still works fine on other phones.. 1 minute works/ next minute stalled..repeat, 2g works ok
Speed to match other phones with s4pro
Volume raised to decent levels
non stupid quick settings.. c'mon how can they bodge it twice ? it's quick settings not brain surgery
navigation bar
hello, my new phone just arrived.
i'd like to enable the navigation bar (software buttons) to give some rest to my thumb (less vertical movement).
I'd accept even an app if it's going to work like the original one, that is: to "dock" on the bottom of the screen, actually making the viewing screen smaller.
Yes, I'm ok to sacrifice screen space.
I tried few apps and they overlap the content of the screen, actually preventing me to see or tap on important parts.
Is there any non-root method? or any rooted method?
Any help is appreciated
in the end i decided to root and use the build.prop method.
Very nicely working, only minor problem found is with original camera app: the navbar doesn't hide and overlaps some controls.
I guess the problem to exists because samsung's apps don't care about the navbar, none of their phone have it.
I tried to first solve with tasker, but the plugin i bought (for the action was missing) didn't work. (refunded)
Then i searched for an xposed module, and found this "force immersive mode". Much better, but the controls are still cut in a half.

Hi guys,
I have new car with Android Auto supported and phone Huawei P8. I have installed the newest version of Android Auto (from apkm..., unfortunately the app is not available in my country) . When I connect my phone, the Smart Link in my car is started instantly but all I can see is just Google Home screen with tab to start navigation (map).
1) The navigation bar at the bottom of the screen is black without any button. No way how to change/run an application.
2) When I try to start voice recognition (voice commands), it flash to black and back to the "lock screen" (no tabs/widgets on the screen).
Any advice what could be wrong?
Thank you,
Filip.
How do you install the Android Auto APK on a headunit? I want to use Headunit Reloaded with self mode so it runs only on the head unit.
I tried downloading the Android Auto APK and it opens but then it tries to update some apps during install but then gives a message that the app is no longer supported by the device, so how do people install it? I am on PX30
Is there a patched version people use?

I mean using Android Auto from the Headunit with the host APK running on the unit itself without needing the phone.

That's based on your resolution and DPI setting. Set your resolution to match your unit, then set you dpi lower in HUR until you get the UI you want.
