Had some videos and photos I recorded yesterday for my daughter's first Christmas. My phone was running low on storage so I quickly deleted some older videos and everything was fine. Checked with Google Photos that all my vids were finished backing up, so today I went and removed them from my device storage. Now all my vids and photos from yesterday are gone. I checked the trash and nothing. I tried some recovery apps and no luck. I'm not even sure why they were deleted from Google Photos in the first place, maybe some bug being the phone was running so low on storage I received a warning??
Anyway, before rooting my phone.. which I rather not have to do..it's been years, but it seems these Recovery apps require root permission to scan deep for deleted files. I wanted to check if anybody had success recovering deleted videos or photos with one of these recovery apps.
Thanks
Sorry to hear you lost your videos. Let me get this straight, you deleted old videos manually and not with the free up space option? Also, before you deleted you Christmas videos, how did you check the backup was complete? Did you tap your profile pic in the top right pic and see the following?

I manually deleted the videos the next day from the files folder on my phone... After seeing that Google photos had them backed up. So after deleting the videos in the files folder, afterwards I went back in just to take a look and Google photos and they all disappeared. And yes it said they were finished backing up. There's a spinning wheel next to the account picture that said everything was backed up.

Okay good. Now are you looking for the videos under "Photos"? Because they would only appear there and not under the albums tab.

Also some other pictures that I took a few days before the device full storage warning disappeared as well that were definitely already backed up to Google Photos. But at least I still have those on my wife's phone since she's the one that sent them to me. It's very strange, it's like some kind of glitch happened and all my photos from the last few days just disappeared. They were definitely all uploaded into Google Photos and finished backing up.

Yes I checked everywhere. I even went through all the years of Google photos to see if maybe the time stamp got messed up and they were placed on another date.
Oh and when you said you deleted them from the "files folder" was that from within Google Photos in the albums section or where you using the files app and file manage? Because if you deleted them from within the Google Photos albums section, you would've delete them from your backup. There's a notification on the backup warning that's what you're about to do. If you delete enough to put into the trash, there's a warning that it'll delete permanently because the trash is full.

Nope only deleted from the files folder on the phone. I accidentally did what you're talking about years ago and learned the hard way not to do that ever again lol. Because of that I'm actually very super careful when deleting photos and making sure things are backed up so that's why it's even more strange that all my photos from the last few days disappeared out of Google photos.

I always just delete them from the device through the Photos app. I usually wait until the next day to delete photos.

Sorry I wrote the wrong thing before, I actually did delete them from the Google photos app. By clicking on the menu and going to device folders. I was thinking of the files app because after the videos disappeared I went into the OEM files app on the phone to see if it was still there maybe.

Yeah going for the device folders or albums is essentially the same thing but different view. If it was videos in the camera folder, which should be checked for backup, then it sounds like you deleted them from your account. And again, of it was a lot of videos like 1.5 GB, it would've told you that they'll be deleted permanently. I hope I'm wrong though course.

You can go to the following address to see your Google Photos sorted by added date... in case they went to a different date... they will still show first.

Hi,
I don't know exactly how it happens, but for some reasons, a lot of the options in the "Share via" action in the stock Gallery app are missing, like e-mail, facebook, twitter.
Attached a screenshot, there are only two options left, those ones that i don't use.

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Anyone has any idea why and how to fix it?
Thanks!
Update: Just checked with other applications, e.g. ASTRO (the file manager), when I use the "Send" action, the list has everything in there (Email, bluetooth, facebook, twitter, to name a few).
+ 1 i've missed several options too

No. I thought that isn't possible unless it's rooted?
you need to press the menu-key first
I have just flashed stock rom LC1 and there are 5 options each
Send via Bluetooth, Email, Gmail, Messaging, WiFi
Share via AllShare, Google+, Picasa, SMemo, Social Hub

That's what we meant. I only have two options in that drop down (or should I say drop up).
Is swear I remember seeing a long long list there before, somehow a lot of them disappeared.

I have a feeling reflashing the stock rom will fix it. Although there is no stock rom available for download yet for my verson (being N7000BDULB2/N7000BDULB3, Vodafone Australia)
Might try factory reset later.
What I'm scared of though is I don't really want to a reset or reflash everytime when this happens.
And we still don't know how this bug happens yet, but it was good to know I was not the only one.
nm
Has anyone found a solution to this?
My note is still working fine but my s2 4g only has bluetooth and wifi as send options. Share va only gives me Picasa and all share.
No solution yet.
FWIW, I finally ended up factory resetting the phone, even formatting all storage (USB and SD), and the result is still the same.

Do you have any apps that might serve as the sharing app?
For example, you claim you only have 2 entries in the share via menu, maybe the missing applications were removed via titanium backup or the custom rom author of the rom you are using?
Install whatsapp, and try to share image from Gallery, does whatsapp appear there?

Use quickpic from the market. I have been using it for my gallery app on my past 3 phones. Never even open the stock gallery app anymore as quickpic is so much better.

After factory reset, I installed facebook and twitter, but still, share via only had two entries.
This is all done manually, not titanium (and this is non rooted stock ROM)
I now have Whatapps installed too, the same.

Found a workaround (not fixing).
Instead of viewing the one photo, go to the where it shows all the thumbnails of the folder. Then tap and hold a photo (or press the menu touch button).
This will go into the multi selection mode. You can select a photo, then select "More", then "Share via". With this it a will bring up a almost full screen list, which has all the share options that has been missing from the other share via popup.

I have a TouchPad using CM9 (I think one of the newer nightlies after the last stable, it's been a few weeks though). Everything has been working fine for a few weeks. Go to my home screen, and the wallpaper is missing (I use a live wallpaper that uses the Gallery to get a custom wallpaper, live wallpaper was working fine, but missing the background). Tried uninstalling/reinstalling the live wallpaper, nothing. Happened to check out the Gallery app, and it looks like all it has access to is my online Google account pics, nothing local on the "SD card".
I tried resetting permissions, wiping cache/Dalvik, deleting the Gallery4.apk and re-installing GApps...nothing. Gallery still only shows online pics. All other GApps appear to be working without any trouble, and I hadn't made any changes at all since my last CM9 re-flash.
Thoughts?
Gallery has always been buggy for me, i removed it altogether and use quickpic from the market instead, no problems.

Ok, fair enough. Screw you, Gallery!
Do you mean live wallpapers like multipic? You should get a pop up with different apps you can use to set where it gathers pics from, any apps where you can view pics, but even file managers should come up.

No, it's actually this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mx.livewallpaper.clock
The live wallpaper part is actually the clock, but you can set it to have no background, a solid color background, or a specific image from your device. Up until now, it used the Gallery app to browse the images and you could choose whatever, but I turned on the device and the home screen was black (clock was still there). I tried to reset it, but it wouldn't work. Then I tried to go to Gallery and found it could no longer browse my local device. That's when I figured out something was wrong.
I had a similar problem yesterday after flashing the latest nightly MX video player couldn't see me files which were there, I checked with file explorer. I finally got it to work by removing the tick from the box that said :
Respect.nomedia . I also saw something similar on one of the other forums rootzwiki or cyanogenmod but can't remember which.
:
For anyone who is unaware, Rom Manager's latest update has cause some issue with the nomedia file on the /sdcard where pictures are inaccessible through your native gallery application client. This happened to me earlier.

Solution, though temporary until the ClockworkMod Team releases a fix with the new update:
Uninstall the update for Rom Manager in your 'manage apps' in settings and/or install Quickpic from Google Play.

You didn't say anything about reflashing the ROM itself. Sometimes that's the only way I can get problems to sort out. FDR, format system, cache, install update, gapps, boot once, go back to cwr and fix permissions.

Ruh roh, looks like that could be possible. I'm pretty sure I set Rom Manager to allow auto-update...guess that's getting turned off...
Thanks for the update! I'll try this when I get home.
Ok, an update to what I did to fix it.
First, I applied the update to Rom Manager from Apex_Strider's post (thanks again!). I think this was the root of the problem, for sure. However, after applying it, Gallery still wouldn't read local images. I restarted the tablet and tried checking again, but still no good. I then re-installed the update APK one more time, and then ran Rom Manager and chose the "Fix Permissions" option. I went back in to Gallery, and once again it didn't look like it worked...but I just let it sit there for about 15-20 seconds, and finally the images on the device started to populate. Went back and re-configured the live wallpaper to use the local image files, and we're off to the races.
Thanks everyone for the ideas, and Apex_Strider for ultimately pointing me to the solution!

And if I delete from the walkman home, the songs is deleted too? weird.
And now my phone's processor is very hot. unusual. Maybe rescan all music, video, photo?

This puts me off updating greatly - anyone else like/dislike the new visuals? The screenshot makes everything appear cluttered and messy to me.. And playlists are really important to me too! Strange they would have got rid of this. I'm not even keen on the album update, the swipe function doesn't appeal to me personally.

If I remember correctly, you have a UK phone, so it's likely you're on 10.4.1.B.0.101, correct? It will revert to the version that you had when you updated to that software version.
You could always backup the version you currently have using ES Explorer's app manager tool to make sure.

yes, you can uninstall the update, an go back to the one that comes with your original firmware.

Same here.
The new gallery app seems almost useless. I want my old one back.
I want the app to also allow me to sorry folders (albums). The way it works now, those folders are sorted with the oldest ones on top. I have years of photos and photo folders there copied onto the phone. I have to spend several minutes scrolling all the way to the last ones to see the most recent photos just taken. How lame is that? Anyone have any ideas?
I haven't tested because i do not want my drop box photos showing.
1. Make sure you have the drop box account added from the market. (I came from a Note 3 and drop box was automatically installed but it is not with 5).
2. Go to settings > accounts. Click the plus to add an account. It will show you all your aps. Drop box will not be highlighted, select it.
3. When you select and re-sign in, you will be asked about photo uploads.
4. Make sure you have sync turned on. This is the step I did not do.

Help needed! I have a Note 9 on At&t. I have attached the path where one of the photos keeps appearing. I do not have samsung cloud active so when I delete photos often times some of them appear a day later. I have went directly to the path and deleted them for them only to appear hours later. I did a search and located nothing so fear I may be the only one experiencing this.
Maybe you saved it in a cloud so it reappears... Try to synchronize or delete directly in the cloud if you done that.
These are just the cache not the original picture. You need to delete/clear the pictures cache.
The best program I found to do this is "Unseen Gallery" which is available on the store.
Hope this helps.

On my s9 note if you go to the menu option in the gallery settings you should see the option to disable save photos for 15 days before permanently deleted in trash.
