Non-US EMUI 10 on P30 Pro in US - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey all,
I'm in the US using a VOG-L29 on T-Mobile. I know that the US is pretty much last to get updates from Huawei, so out of curiosity, I set my VPN to Sweden and changed my HiCare region to Germany. I then went to HiCare and checked for updates and it showed the EMUI 10 update was available.
Does anyone know if this will cause any issues since this phone in the US but the update is coming from somewhere else? Is it fairly straight-forward to downgrade back to EMUI 9?

Don't know if your bank apps will work or some other apps, if in US they've updated apps for Android 10.
Yes, you can revert to EMUI 9.1 using HiSuite PC version 10. Search for update and then select restore to another version (v9.1.0.240 in my case).
PS. It seems you're on stable version (final one) of Android 10 (EMUI 10). The rest of us have v10.0.0.173, which is still a pre-relase one

Can you provide specifics please? I've tried this morning and still nothing for me, here's what I did:
Cleared cache & storage from HiCare
Disabled HiCare
Enabled HiCare
Went to the Play Store and updated to latest version
Opened HiCare and refused to switch to UK version
Set region as Germany
Opened the Play Store, downloaded a free VPN with Sweden
Checked the IP on Google to see if it was working
Went in to HiCare pressed the update icon
Went to software update screen
Nothing...
Is there anything you're doing differently or that I am doing wrong?
Thanks

Here's I did:
1. Went into HiCare (version 9.1.7.309), tapped Me, Settings, Select country/region, select Germany. I got a warning about changing it but clicked to to it anyway.
2. Opened PIA VPN, could not find a server in Germany so I arbitrarily selected Sweden.
3. Went back into HiCare, tapped Update, waited a few seconds, and it was there.
The interesting thing is that I just walked through the steps again as I typed this up, but I noticed that my HiCare region has reverted back to US (or maybe it didn't stick last night when I initially changed. I didn't go back in at verify at the time). I didn't connect to my VPN and when I tapped Update in HiCare, the update still shows up. I'm not sure if it now recognizes my IMEI or what, but the update is now showing up for me with a US region and no VPN.

All these work arounds Inc sim change as well as hicare region change and vpn only work if the IMEI of your device is whitelisted by Huawei to receive said update .

I flashed EMUI 10 .168 and before putting a SIM back in I connected to WiFi and checked for updates, it found a small patch, so with that in mind I am assuming my IMEI has been approved for the 10 update and the only thing that may stall updates in the future now is my carrier, so switching SIMs could work once a newer update arrives if it doesn't come through automatically
With 9.1 I was stuck on .193 forever, I switched from EE to O2 SIM and immediately got the .240 update, so again my IMEI must have been good to go the whole time and EE was stopping it

If your device IMEI is carrier branded then that could well be the issue, carrier not approving update. I'm referring to sim free factory unlocked devices. Using the sim change trick for patches and updates seems to work in conjunction with changing perhaps hicare region as well and vpn. With the Emui 10 update, you forced an update right? I believe these need to be setup and whitelisted on Huawei end for sim free devices for OTA.

I think I used UK in hicare and got the update. I'm on AT&T, and everything works fine. No issues with any banking apps. VOGL29.

No it's not it's unlocked from the Carphone Warehouse, I manually flashed the 10 update, but I got an OTA for it as soon as I connected to wifi

Ok so it doesn't have any dependency on the carrier. Huawei blocked you for EMUI 10 until you manually flashed it. Remember this is all speculation since the method Huawei use for updates an enigma in itself. Lol[emoji1787]

Well I didn't think it had carrier dependency but putting an O2 SIM in got me the .240 update on 9.1 and I had been trying every trick in the book to get it and failing before that, so I think it's still a combination of the two, Huawei can give your IMEI the green light, but the carrier can still put on the breaks
To bypass the carrier, either use a SIM that has already pushed it, or reset your phone and do it SIM free

Means nothing. Check my scenario out- I put an old EE dead sim card in mine to get updated via WiFi and vpn. With updates I mean patches and also successfully enrolled with beta app using this method. Tmobile USA wouldn't have been blocking my updates, Huawei was blocking them until I used a UK sim card in my c432 region device.

I had originally thought that as well, but that theory went down the toilet when I recently got an update - security patch for December using my USA TMobile sim.

T-Mobile haven't pushed December patch out yet?
Maybe the patch you got from EE removed the block Tmobile firmware was causing
Who knows with Huawei, maybe a guy in a green car drove past and they decided today was the day

Also, there was another UK user on here that tried using a Vodafone Sim in his device to get EMUI 10 and it didn't work , even though others were getting said EMUI 10, he was sim free on 3 network. P30 pro.

TMobile doesn't push any security patches to my device since my device isn't a T-Mobile USA branded device. Device was also never sold here by any USA carrier.
I think Huawei must have some sort of flow chart showing what criteria needs to be met for A patches and B firmware updates, that no one is privy to.

Hidden Google apps!

The apps Google play movies and google play magazines were hidden from my device till now! When using Titanium Backup, i found out and enabled them. Does someone know why Sony dis this so? Or is it normal? Am from India, using a sim free version of the device and its in stock .350!

in germany it is enabled, i see "Google Play Movies" in my Apps list with the red film stripe icon.
as i know it has just been enabled a few months ago in germany whereas in the usa it's been going on for over a year now.
it's all about legal stuff and movie licences..

I too thought the same! The Play Movies was enabled in India last week and after being rolled out even it wasn't enabled till I did so and the same is wit magazines though they aren't enabled in India yet!
A strange doubt, how does Sony or Google know that the service is available in the respective country and how can they enable it in my device remotely? Can they?

they cannot..
they have to do an ota update that installs it to change anything on your mobile.

Of course they can ,the phone checks what country you're in based on the mobile network and not the SIM-card. .
Think also how the split the updates to the world ,today UK tomorrow Germany etc ..they can see a lot of ways

how would they check in which country you are in ? they need an app for that, which calls the home server by itself and tells them where you are ?
ok, sony has some update apps from sony. but do they really check the cell network you are in ? does it use google location based service ?
i don't know if it really does that. normally it's rolled out by serial number.
but without such an app or background service that is continuously sending data to sony or checking once a week, it's not possible for sony to know which device is where in the world.
i bought myself a device from asus from the uk with a UK Serial Number and the WWE Rom Version. i've only and just ever used it in germany, but i only got the UK OTA ROMS and got it when it was rolled out in the UK.
so without an app like sony update that connects periodically with sony servers and collects usage data, it's simply not possible. they OTA Updates are spread by Serial Numbers, that's what i was told by ASUS, and that's what happened with their devices. they don't have an update app like sony and that's why i wrote that in my last post.
does anyone really "know" what the sony update app is doing ? yes, no ? sorry, but if not, it's simply speculation on how the ota updates are rolled out.
imo the update app just checks for updates and submits the serial number of the device. it's a guess. if anyone knows better, please post.

ok, i guess the ip thing is easier to work with than an app reporting the used cell network bandwidth.. whatever, none of us knows what the sony app really does and by what cause the ota's are rolled out.
I think that we go off topic ,Sony Video Unlimited app can see in which country you are and if your area is supported by the app or not ,thats different with hidden google apps ,on the home screen pull your finger from downbar upwards and see another hidden google app starting

Where's the 5.1.1 update on my off-contract N6?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but this if my first unlocked/non-carrier phone. I've always been with Verizon and have grown accustomed to waiting 1+ years to get updates.
I just got my N6 on Friday and the latest OS version available is 5.0.1. I'm seeing news articles all over the place going back as far as early March saying that AT&T/Tmobile customers are getting 5.1.1 OTA updates. I was under the impression when I bought my N6, that because I'm buying a non-carrier/vanilla Google variant of the phone, I'd be one of the first to receive new Android updates, and that carriers would be the ones lagging behind. Yet it seems the exact opposite.
I'm currently running build LRX22C 5.0.1 on Cricket Wireless. Should I be expecting a new update any time soon, or are we required to manually flash it or something?

I received mine from Moto on Thursday of last week. Before putting in my VZW SIM, I connected to wifi and it updated me all the way to 5.1.1(in increments of course). I think in your case, your SIM(carrier) is what's limiting you from updating. Try pulling your SIM rebooting and check for updates. If that doesnt work, you can do a factory reset and leave your SIM out, connect to wifi then see if you get the updates. Since its a Nexus, you can always manually flash the latest.:good:

Thank you. I just shut down, pulled sim, turned back on and checked for updates. Not available unfortunately, still showing 5.0.1 to be the latest.
You mentioned you just got yours on Thursday - is Motorola just now starting to roll this update out or did you just happen to get yours Thursday for whatever reason?

I ordered the phone Sat night from Moto and received it last Thurs. I had been reading through the forums here and saw several mention about how to get the phone to update to the latest version so and soon as I opened the box, I turned the hotspot on from my other phone, connected the Nexus 6 to it via wifi and all the updates started downloading(5.01, 5.1, 5.1.1). I think the updates are controlled by Google then the carriers not Moto. Try suggestion #2 if you dont mind starting from scratch
all the updates get controlled by google, after carrier approval. but, google does not promise updates asap. they promise updates within 3 weeks. being a google play device, you'd get the no carrier update only on WiFi. and with it having the Verizon sim in it, it'll get an update after Verizon approves the update.

I just went up to Best Buy and bought an unlocked N6 without service. Comes without a SIM by default. I ran straight up to a Game Stop and bought service through Cricket Wireless and got a SIM from them.
For the record, I'm not a fan of Best Buy but all online retailers I could buy it from had tax in my state, so I figured I might as well skip waiting on shipping and just buy locally.

i got mine a week ago from O2 and i am on Version 9.0.0.198 (1. February)
I'm not from Germany but I got same update 198 (Giffgaff on 02 network)
It's just security patch, we will not have any EMUI update with features for a while I Reckon, hope they are working on Android Q 10 ... First time I bought a Huawei phone but it looks like they are not the best manufacturers in terms of update and they are "locked" with modification so I'm not expecting anything crazy from them...

First time I bought a Huawei phone but it looks like they are not the best manufacturers in terms of update and they are "locked" with modification so I'm not expecting anything crazy from them...

macro for the camera was an innovative move from them, not too long ago.
expect more useful stuff than spywares !

I am also currently on .198 , but first I thought I got it from here ... but it was actually from O² itself, I figured.
Do you perhaps know when & which version is going to be from O² Germany next ?

I'd appreciate it though if you enlighten me a little about it.
thanks
Software bug in Call Forwarding !
according to the tech dept of O² Germany that there is probably a bug in the software,
and that is why it is not possible to DISABLE it in Call Forwarding, when BUSY or UNREACHABLE.
is everyone else having the same issue with the set regardless the carrier?

As far as I know updates are pushed by Huawei. I don't see how or why the carrier should be involved. The only thing I have noticed is that after putting a Vodafone Sim in my device it automatically downloaded some Vodafone bloatware. But it does not affect the actual firmware or updates.
Back in the day the phones were locked and branded, had a Vodafone design preinstalled and the carrier name written on the back of the device. They therefore had a specially modified firmware which they were in charge of updating. But since all of that has disappeared there is no need for the carrier to get involved. Everybody wins, faster updates less effort.

Yes, that makes sense. Thank you for explaining.
Now, there were a couple of apps did actually automatically installed after I inserted/connected with the O² card.
One of them is still there "SIM-Toolkit", the other one I can't remember, I probably uninstalled it.
There was also a prompt for the SIM-PIN every time I restarted the device. I did manage to disable that.
And also, some O² Germany links (help/legal stuff) somewhere ... can't remember where too

A few days ago I read somewhere, that the carrier has an impact on the OTA. Somebody gave the advise to temporarily switch the SIM cards (from Telefonica o2 to Vodafone) and at the next boot he magically got a new OTA update. (Looks similar to windows 10's update channels) at least it's worth to try.

are you with O² Germany
I see some of you are residing in Germany, just wondering, how many of you are actually with O² Germany contract?
I have a question then!
9.0.0.210
today I received the official update. version 9.0.0.210
anyone else with O² Germany?
Anyone knows what's new with this from .198 ? I don't see much !
3 major issues for me are still there:
* no separate sound levels for sms/notifications & ringtone
* no separate sound for SIM2's sms as its ringtone
* no changes in auto-brightness

So am I
Did you also get the update yesterday? Or does it work randomly regardless the carrier !?
What I meant is that Auto Brightness indeed "works",
but you cannot turn it off permanently, it turns itself ON again after a restart.
And about the separate sounds, I think you should check it again ...
Ringtone, SMS, Notifications = they all have the same joint level,
while the Media, Alarms, Calls = do have their separate levels !

Vog-l04 emui 10 official update?

Hi,
I am trying to find any information regarding an official update for Canadian p30 pro users seems like there's no official roadmap for the update release can't seem to find any anything online either? Does anyone know when we will get the update?
Whenever the big 3 decides when we will get the update. We are in the hands of our carriers now...
Huawei is always changing their release date.
Huawei is constantly changing their release date. First it said late November. Then in December. Everytime I call their hotline in Mexico. I can never get a definite answer. This is what I dislike about the company they are polite enough. But never give you a definite answer on these types of things

You are not in Canada according to your cell provider, that could be why you are getting it and we are not.
I got update 241 2 weeks ago (C461E4R1P5). Still no luck with Android 10.
I hope Chinese Santa will make me a gift until the end of the year.
In HiCare up the launch screen shows blue image with Update will come soon text.

I'm with Koodo in Nova Scotia. Still nothing. It's still not the end of the world since the official stable Android 10 release was only four months ago in September; however, I am starting to get anxious. If we get the update in January I'll be a happy camper. February I'll be a content, but a little peeved. Anything past March and that's where my patience will come to an end. Carriers usually play with the update for 6-8 weeks before distributing the OTA, so it's probably going to be in February.

Ota update: C432 (e5r1p9).

Has anyone with version C432 (E5R1P9) already received any update via ota after version 9.1.0.328?
345 firmware with October security patch
Could you please send a screen print from within your software update application. Thank you.

I've had this for some time. Nothing since.
Huawei rolls out software so badly and splintered its nauseating.
I'm literally sick of this phone.
Nope. Got 3 updates within a few days when changed my region from 782 to 432 after getting p'd off not getting updates. Only then for the 782 to suddenly catch up to all the others and I've had nothing for 3 months. Also on 328

Mate how have you kept upbeat in your Huawei life?
I compare my Huawei life to natural disasters or famine, if truly is a piece of sh*t device and eco system, how the are Chinese people loving Huawei?
I can't fathom.
My phone bricked itself overnight trying to install this

I haven't lol. To be fair the updates are purely security and yeah it's frustrating but the phones themselves are great. Never had a camera or battery like it on any other phone.

My OnePlus beat it consistently in regards to battery and performance but the camera wasn't anywhere near close..
By all accounts they've caught up in that department now..
The Mali GPU isn't very good at all tbh. Even the launcher lags when moving to the Google feed.
A miracle happened and I just received 9.1.0.345 and soon after 9.1.0.370. After months stuck in 9.1.0.328.
