Finally Sprint has released Pie! I layed down for a nap today (needed one especially after the Holidays), get up and notice my phone stating there is an OS update. I am now running Pie but what's funny is my wife and I switched to Verizon today, we're waiting for our new phones to be shipped to us before we quit Sprint.
I loved my V40 but it was both LG and Sprint that made us switch. The update service is total garbage. I would get monthly security updates once every 2-3 months and not getting Pie on a flagship phone only until like a year later is garbage. My wife and I literally have no service on Sprint in our new area and rely on wifi for everything on our phones. Now I wait a few days to get my new Galaxy S10+. No more LG and no more Sprint.
Welp it's time to say goodbye to the LG V40 forums and hello to S10+. Got my new S10+ today and switched to Verizon.
I'm enjoying the new Android 10 OS ?

I've only heard April 20th.
I really wonder how much they will charge US off contract. I am currently on contract with them and i will be upgrading as soon as the phone comes out and would like to know just how much i will have to put out upfront.

Im with you on that.. Im hoping that with the OPTIMUS 3D coming out real soon it will help the 2X stay at a reasonable price.. I bought the HD2 off contract for $449.. I wouldnt spend more than that for this phone..
I believe this phone off contract will probably be around $500.
The way i look at it, i will just renew my contract with tmobile and NOT pay the full price and hopefully if AT&T buys them then i can cancel my contract and hopefully NOT pay and penalty
where did u hear apr 6?
If it is April 6th, great. If not, I may wait for the HTC Pyramid or the SGS2.
Ive only heard Apr 20! I want to know where he heard April 6th!! If so that'd be great

My boss was having problems with one if his phones. The CSR offered him an upgrade and said wait until the 6th. She said there are 3 phone going to be released that day and the g2x is one of them. I read there is a nokia to be released that day, maybe the other is the sidekick?
The second source was someone else who also was told by a CSR rep.
I doubt we see this phone on 4/6. If we do then somebody in T Mobile USA marketing dropped the ball.

The Nokia Astound was announced for April 6th. The CSR is confused about the g2x. No way it would come out in a week when there has been no advertising, nor a price.

She did say 3 phones were going to be released on the same day.
Astound, Sidekick and G2X? Would they even release 2 high end phones on the same day?
April 6 would be great..Sidekick and G2x would make a big sales date!
hey guys i heard april 20th from pocketnow.com
Isnt april 6 next week already? And still no major ads and advertisements and price? So i doubt it. But i wish t-mo would release it early.
that CSR is wrong as of right now the G2X is set for April 20th check out Tmonews. On April 20th 3 things are set to come out as of right now. The Sidekick 4G, G2X, and the G-Slate. I am a RSA and T-Mobile would of let the stores known if it was April 6th. We already have the new Nokia phone at my store for April 6th. So that CSR must of been thinking about the 20th when he was telling you what he told u.
I heard the phones were shown off by lg reps in the store, is this true?

I would not bank on that with this device, as it will work on AT&T - no out here.
Other devices, like MT4G will no work on #G/Hspa+ if they drop TMo bands - that would be a contract out.
I heard it'll be from $450-500
Hey guys,
I'm set for an upgrade, I'm looking for suggestions on what to get. Should I get something now or wait little while for something good that's coming out?
I hear people chattering about the Nexus Prime and SGS II. Personally, I'm on the Evo 3D, and love it. The only problem with the new 3D's is the hboot. Can't fully get s off.
Motorola Photon!
my upgrade is in december. im gonna see if i can get sprint to give me the early ok so i can get somethin on black friday..... hopefully the 3vo for nothing.
tl;dr - I'm not upgrading anytime soon because of LoS issues on the SG2E4GT and WiMAX is on the way out.
I've been off-contract since August. I was all set to get the SG2E4GT until the LoS issues became so prevalent, and I did some research into how slow Samsung has been to issue updates/fixes for their other Android phones (at least on Sprint, anyway). This has also kind of made me a bit cautious regarding the Galaxy Nexus since it too is a Samsung device.
Granted, the above issues may become moot once CM7 is up and running on these phones, but then there's also the problem of Sprint converting their 4G network to LTE over the next 1 to 2 years. Since I live in an area with zero WiMAX coverage (Metro Detroit), I'm reluctant to get a new phone right as WiMAX is going away, especially since I'm not paying the magical $10 'premium data' fee, and CM7.1 is running like a champ on my old Hero.

I'm in the same boat -- why buy a wimax phone (GS2) when lte is coming to Milwaukee next year? Does the photon support LTE? Maybe the Nexus will. Any other lte-ready phones from sprint?

I could certainly be wrong, but I don't think any of their current phones support LTE.
Also, I read this article today from phandroid.com:
If you’re a Sprint customer, you may have found yourself recently looking for new reasons to stick with the carrier after their “Season of Change” removed a lot of customer perks. As most of you have already heard, ‘Ol Yeller is getting their new LTE network set up for next year but what you may not have known is the carrier is also planning on rolling out an LTE-Advanced network for the first half of 2013, with voice over LTE (VoLTE) devices scheduled in the first quarter of that year. Sprint’s VP of network and development Iyad Tarazi spilled the beans while speaking during a breakfast meeting at the 4G World conference.
Mr. Tarazi also mentioned that 12 LTE devices are currently scheduled for 2012 with Sprint planning on covering between 250 – 277 million people with blazing fast LTE by the end of 2013. How’s that for sticking with #3?
If you’re curious about the fate of your currently equipped 4G WiMax devices, Sprint’s agreement with Clearwire means you will be covered for at least the next few years. That’s about 60 in smartphone years. With this new development are any Sprint customers going to wait it out? Or have you already been seduced by the blazing fast data of other carriers?

So I agree...why lock in to a WiMAX phone now (unless you get great WiMAX coverage in your area) when LTE is in the pipeline?

The Thrill is out of stock on AT& T's website. Kind of interesting. Selling out or discontinued? I'm leaning towards the latter.
Don't know if it is discontinued yet, but I do know that it has not been in stores (AT&T) for at least 3 months. We had to get my wife's from online only back at the end of november-early december.
I haven't seen them at any at&t stores either. I'm guessing it reached its EOL in at&T's eyes. Try Walmart or Radioshack.
Update: Just checked Radioshacks website. Thrill is not listed. This phone is pretty much dead in everyone's eyes. We can blame LG for releasing it with 2.2 and att for not releasing 2.3 in a timely manner. I have an upgrade this month and one in May. Checked out the Note and its looking good!
Still had them at the at&t store near my house last week. Going in the morning to get a Note, will check and see what is up.
Still have at our local our corporate store. Rep there though, said that bestbuy had bought out LG rights exclusively or something.

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything on the 5.1.1 update will be released. All of the other major carriers have released it weeks ago so I am expecting it anytime now. Thanks
I don't have any information on the 5.1.1 update from AT&T but I will say that the lack of updates really gives a bad impression of the S6 edge.
I'm testing the waters of switching from AT&T to T-Mobile, sold my G925A, and bought the G925T. The G925T has had 5.1.1 for some time now and T-Mobile just pushed out the latest updates with all known Stagefright vulnerabilities addressed, most of the S6 edge+ updates (App Edge, refreshed icons), Rich Communication Services support, and the Samsung Pay app (not fully enabled yet, though). The phone seems to run the way it was designed with no noticeable lag, overall quicker response (even the fingerprint reader is noticeably faster), and a bit less carrier bloat.
If I end up staying with AT&T, this version unlocked will probably be superior to the AT&T version.

Thank you for this excellent comparison - you've confirmed for me exactly what I thought would be the case if I were to go with a G925T over the A, but instead, I think I'm just going to dump this phone off and go with the Nexus 5X (2015) - I won't have to deal with any root issues, any lack of updates anymore, any AT&T BS....
I'm just so sick of how AT&T has treated loyal customers with locked down phones, I just don't have the time to spend screwing with them anymore, not like I did before, but now I'm just fed up with the whole thing - I wish I could say "something has to change," but it never will, customers will just buy locked down phones, suffer through not being able to root them, and forget all about what it was like to have control anymore!

Thanks for this info. I totally agree with both chp & KryptosXLayer2 about this issue. I've got a 925A, actually Build G925AUCU2AOF4, using T-Mobile and although I get great reception (I live in a box-canyon and reception on most networks is pretty nil), besides ALL the AT&T bloatware & needless/useless apps I can't remove unless rooted, I can't root this phone! (Also, same issue with the 5.1.1 update not available.) Tried all the options only to learn AT&T hasn't released the file to be able to root it. I'm fed up also and after reading ya'lls comments I think I'll start looking for a 925T as well and dump my 925A. Tired of waiting for AT&T to get with the program...
I went to order a pixel 5 yesterday and all they had in stock were the Fi variants (ordered anyways), after some quick research I discovered that they were the same phone as the unlocked version. I'm a T-Mobile customer, with 2 numbers, one for personal and one for work. I read where some people have said the esim is tied to Fi, I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on that as my plan was to have T-Mobile activate the esim for one of my lines and using the traditional sim card in the slot. Anyone done this?
Also, I've read where they say 5g isn't an option with dual sims, yet I also read where changes were pushed to allow 5g with dual sims... Anyone have an answer on that as well? Thanks.

The only difference with the Fi phone vs. the Google one is who supports it. If you have a warranty replacement it will have to come from the Fi team and not Google. Weird but true. Otherwise they are exactly the same. That includes not being branded to any one carrier. If you have a Fi account when you set up your phone it will automatically download the eSim if you want but if you don't then just pop in your physical sim and you're off to the races. Then contact the provider for a scan code for the eSim. I've not done it with TM but with Verizon and all works easily enough. Get yourself a 5G sim too while you're at it.
Now the big question, lol, I do not have 5G with both my sims active.. yet. I do not have the December patch from VZW either so I can't say if the merged code made it into the patch. I've asked all around and no one even responds to my inquiries including Android Police and 9to5 who initially reported it from the XDA feed. But supposedly Monday I'll get the Dec build and know one way or the other.

Thanks for the reply. I assumed as much but you know what it's like after you do something, you begin to wonder lol. I do not have Fi, hopefully if I have an issue, that won't become one.
Hopefully the 5g on both sims made it into the update, or will be making it in shortly. I'm coming from a OnePlus 6t and dissatisfied with how OnePlus has been handling their updates. Phone gets great updates, timely and functional for 6 months, after that it's mainly focused on the newer models and the updates slow down but do still come, 12 months it starts to get left behind and now, they throw a security update at you occasionally. Been on lineage for a while and just decided spec wise, modern phones do all I care for them to do so the pixel 5 looked like a nice offering even if it's not "top of the line". We'll see I suppose.

You'll be happy with the phone. It's the right price, right size and battery lasts all day no matter what you do to it. At least for me, lol. There have been some issues with Fi support buy you really won't be dealing with them unless you have a hardware issue. As soon as I get the update on Monday I'll chime in here but you might get the device before that. Make sure you are there to sign for it as I've heard of some empty boxes arriving on doorsteps.
As for 5G if you need it you can toggle off a sim very quickly and bring it back online just as easily. If I toggle off my work number 5G pops right up. I don't usually do it but I will on the weekends sometimes. I don't find it any faster than lte at this point but perhaps TM is better the VZW. Then again I've yet to connect to the super duper 5G they are touting.

Yeah, I received the phone Sunday actually, surprised me they delivered then as it was scheduled for Monday. I wasn't home, they delivered it regardless, another surprise as tracking said signature required and I watched on my camera the FedEx guy walk up, put the phone by the door and walk away... Worked for me I suppose.
My time with the phone so far has been good. I'm coming from a OnePlus 6t that I was happy with the performance of the phone but it was starting to have gps issues and would drop calls fairly often. This phone is much smaller but I like it. I'm 6'4 with large hands but it still is a nice size. Performance wise, if I'm honest I can't really tell a difference. Sure, benchmarks likely would suggest different but I don't use them, I use the phone and in that regard, the pixel 5 is fine. Camera, even with it's aging hardware takes much better pictures. I can't comment fully on battery as of yet but then again my 6t would easily outlast my usage per day anyways.
